Last year, we opened 7 stores and we thought that was a great accomplishment. Only to find out we can double that figure plus 6 re-opened sites due to the flood caused by typhoon ondoy.
It was depressing to work for those flooded sites seeing so much devastation but we stood our ground and continued with our Happy to Help attitude. This is part of our social responsibility.

2 days ago, we opened #15 site for this year in Solano, Nueva Viscaya. As the cliché "saving the best for last" can be appropriately used. The last one was definitely worth it. We ended the year with 82 sites. Who said there was a recession?

Planning helps but in the end, it is how the staff execute and adjust to the pressure and intricacies in opening a store. You can say we are already an expert but there are a lot of things to improve.

In addition, it was this year that we opened 2 sites in one day. Our Cabanatuan sites in Megacenter and Amigo- Nueva Ecija. I never imagined being part of this historic event.Never mind the 30 sites by 2010. Never mind the 100 sites target by 2010 being our 25th year. It is time to celebrate the accomplishment of the team.

Angara bloc declares support for Enrile

THE Senate presidency may yet elude Liberal Party Senator Francis Pangilinan after a group led by Senator Edgardo Angara on Wednesday declared they would vote to re-elect Juan Ponce Enrile to the same position.

The so-called Angara bloc in the Senate—Juan Miguel Zubiri, Loren Legarda, Ramon Revilla Jr., Lito Lapid, Gregorio Honasan, and Vicente Sotto III—decided to support Enrile over Pangilinan and Nacionalista Party Senator Manuel Villar Jr. in a meeting Wednesday.

Enrile, who appeared at the meeting on the bloc’s invitation, agreed to join the Senate leadership contest after being informed of their decision to support him, a senator from the Angara bloc said.

The development apparently caught the Pangilinan camp flat-footed with Pangilinan unable to issue any statement as of press time.

Pangilinan and Villar had been soliciting support from colleagues in the past few weeks to give them the 13 votes needed to bag the Senate presidency, a post held by Enrile until June 30.

The Angara bloc said they would support an aspirant who could protect and uphold the independence and autonomy of the Senate, who would pursue a reformist agenda, and who would not be obstructionist.

Angara had expressed misgivings about Pangilinan taking over the helm of the Senate because his closeness to President Benigno Aquino III may stymie his ability to blunt Malacanang’s encroachment on the Senate.

Honasan, Sotto, and Senator Jinggoy Estrada were reportedly instrumental in persuading Enrile to take another crack at the Senate presidency.

Estrada is Enrile’s partymate in the Puwersa ng Masang Pilipino. Revilla, who was earlier reported to have agreed to vote for Pangilinan, repeated that he would not break away from the Angara bloc.

Another Senate source said the Angara bloc was negotiating with the Villar camp to forge a coalition and form a new majority to gain control of the Senate.

Villar’s group is composed of his NP partymates Alan Peter Cayetano, Pia Cayetano, and Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Miriam Defensor Santiago of the People’s Reform Party, and Joker Arroyo.

Legarda of the Nationalist People’s Coalition was Villar’s running mate in the May 10 elections.

Earlier, Zubiri said Villar’s allies had sent word that they were willing to support Enrile on the condition they there should be no revival of the C-5 road extension case that the Senate had investigated.

An alliance of the Villar group and the Angara bloc can deliver at least 14 votes for Enrile.

While Enrile has signed an earlier resolution endorsing Pangilinan’s bid for the Senate presidency, he said he could still change his mind if he were to be presented with an endorsement signed by at least 13 senators.

Pangilinan has claimed to already have 11 votes on his side, including his own. His supporters include LP partymates Franklin Drilon, Ralph Recto and Teofisto Guingona III, and independent Senators Sergio Osmeña and Francis Escudero.

Pangilinan is also counting on the vote of detained Sen. Antonio Trillanes V. But whether he can attend the opening of the Senate session on Monday and take part in the election of the Senate president remains uncertain, as the Makati Regional Trial Court has yet to act on his motion to be allowed to post bail or to be granted a furlough.

Supporters abandon Pangilinan for Enrile

Indicators show that Senator Juan Ponce Enrile is likely to retain his post as Senate President when Congress opens its doors for the 15h Congress on Monday.

Enrile, in a briefing for Senate reporters, revealed that supporters of Sen. Francis Pangilinan, one of the contenders for the Senate presidency, met him last Tuesday to throw their support behind hisbid for the Senate presidency if he is interested because Pangilinan has difficulty in getting 13 votes to snatch the top Senate post, which will be voted upon on July 26.

The so-called seven-member independent bloc of Sen. Edgardo J. Angara has yet to make an official announcement of its decision whom to support, but an insider was quoted in the early afternoon that they had a deadlock. There were late indications that this bloc is now sympathetic to Enrile.

The virtual throwing of the towel for the bid of Pangilinan (Liberal Party) by his own supporters appeared to tilt the race in favor of the reluctant 86-year-old legislator who told reporters that a Senate President’s job is tiring and time-consuming.

He said these same supporters were optimistic that they could muster the 13 votes for him to retain the post.

“If they want me to handle the Senate presidency, (if that is so) so be it,’’ he said. “I think so,’’ Enrile replied to a query whether he could muster the 13 votes to get the plum Senate position “but for me to actively go around (and seek the votes), no way.’’

Reports have it that a group emerging to support Enrile said that some votes for Enrile might be snatched from the Nacionalista Party (NP) camp of Sen. Manuel Villar, who ran and lost in the May 10 presidential race.

The race for the Senate presidency between Villar and Pangilnan had stalled as not one of them could get the required 13 votes.
The LP senators in the upper chamberse are Pangilinan, Franklin M. Drilon, Ralph Recto, and Teofisto Guingona III. The LP allies are independent Senators Sergio Osmena III and Francis Escudero.

Enrile refused to name the supporters who went to his room at the Makati Medical Center in Makati City where he met his cardiologist. He said that he has not talked to any senator identified with Villar, but “I heard that some in the Villar camp might work with a group that would emerge to support me.’’

He also said he has not talked to any member of the Angara group on the Senate presidency issue, except to say that he met with Angara and Sen. Franklin M. Drilon, both former Senate Presidents, weeks before Pangilinan declared his intention to run for the Senate presidency.

Earlier, a Villar ally, Sen. Miriam Defensor- Santiago, expressed confidence that Villar has virtually wrapped up the Senate presidency.

The LP hierarchy chose Pangilinan as its official bet for the Senate presidency instead of Drilon, LP chairman. Like Angara, Drilon was a former Senate President.

Angara was quoted as saying last Wednesday that he would personally support Enrile, but he would still have to sit down with members of his bloc earlier described as a ‘’swing vote’’ in the race for the Senate presidency.

The Angara bloc consists of Senators Angara, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Loren Legarda, Ramon “Bong’’ Revilla Jr., Manuel Lapid, Gregorio Honasan, and Vicente Sotto III.

Senators Jose “Jinggoy’’ Estrada, Sotto, and Honasan had stated that they would support Enrile should he decide to seek another term as the Senate chief.

DSWD awards P8.5M to core shelter program in Tugeuagrao City

Tuguegarao City (23 July) -- DSWD Regional Director Arnel B. Garcia led the groundbreaking and awarding of additional 66 Core Shelter Assistance Program (CSAP) checks to intended beneficiaries in Barangay Namabbalan Sur, Tuguegarao City on July 15, 2010.

Together with the city officials led by City Mayor Hon. Delfin Telan Ting and City Vice Mayor Danilo Baccay, DSWD granted additional amount of P4,620,000.00 for 66 units to the assessed beneficiaries who are victims of Typhoon Pepeng last October 2009 whose houses were totally damaged by the said calamity.

Moreover, DSWD also extended the amount of P145,759.00 as Cash for Work Allocation for the 122 beneficiaries based on the 30% counterpart during the construction. The additional Food for Work, Technical and Engineering Supervision was also extended to the beneficiaries as the Provincial Government counterpart. The provision of lot, gravel and sand for roads to CSAP sites was committed by the LGU as their counterpart.

Director Garcia encouraged every beneficiary in his message to love their homes and maintain a harmonious relationship among their neighbors and sustain an active participation in every community affairs.

City Mayor Delfin Telan Ting also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the support given by the department to its constituents.

DSWD has released the first amount of P3,920,000.00 last March 17, 2010 intended for 56 assessed beneficiaries of Cataggaman Pardo, Tuguegarao City. Maja Salvador says she's not jealous at all


MANILA, Philippines – After Maja Salvador played the lead in the afternoon show “Nagsimula Sa Puso,” many expected her to be given a primetime show.

So when her follow-up project “Precious Hearts Romances Presents Impostor” ended up in the Kapamilya network’s afternoon lineup again, they thought she would be disappointed. However, Salvador said she doesn’t feel that way at all.

It’s true that both shows were supposed to be part of ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida block. Salvador was quick to add, however, that she’s not in a rush to have a primetime show.

“Sa akin, kahit saang time slot ilagay ang show ko, okay lang. Ang importante mailabas. Hindi naman nakakabawas sa isang show kung sa hapon siya ilagay. Ang importante may ginagawa ka at napapanood ka pa rin ng mga tao,” she said.

Salvador admitted though that there was a time when she wondered why her shows were always being put in the network’s afternoon lineup, but eventually she realized that didn’t matter.

She also said she doesn’t get jealous of other female Kapamilya stars her age who are getting what some might perceive as better opportunities to shine, like some of her contemporaries.

“Opo, nagdaan na rin naman ‘yon sa isip ko, pero hindi ako nagreklamo. Content ako sa kung ano man ang binibigay sa akin. Dapat ganoon ang attitude. Tungkol naman sa issue ng inggitan, walang ganoon sa amin ng mga kasabayan ko, like sina Kim [Chiu] at Erich [Gonzales]. Kanya-kanya kami. Sa akin, swerte ako dahil may projects ako. Kung wala pa akong primetime show, siguro kasi hindi pa oras na magkaroon ako ng ganoon,” she said.

Shows abroad

She also loves it when she gets to perform for Kapamilyas abroad. She has a series of shows for The Filipino Channel (TFC) lined up. She loves it whenever she goes abroad to meet the fans that have become known as “globies,” or people from different parts of the world who support their favorite ABS-CBN stars.

“Maganda ang ginagawa ng TFC kasi hindi lang ako sa Pilipinas nakakapagpasaya ng tao,” she said.

She added that performing for Kapamilyas abroad feels different, but in a good way.

“Iba kasi ang sabik nila sa artista,” she said of the globies. “Dito grabe pero mas grabe sa abroad. Kapag may show kami sa ibang bansa, ‘yong ibang fans nagpapa-block off talaga ng oras para lang makanood. Kaya kapag sumalang na kami doon, siyempre binibigay namin ang best namin para sa kanila.”

Salvador said one of the best things about going abroad is the gifts they receive from the globies.

Yusoph thanks Enrile for role in son's release
Acting Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile on Friday said Election commissioner Elias Yusoph thanked him for the release of the latter’s abducted son. In a closed-door meeting, Enrile said Yusoph thanked him for his hand in the release of his 22-year-old son Nuraldin early this week.

"We're happy that his son was released without any harm done to him," Enrile told reporters after the meeting.

Enrile refused to tell the media what exactly was his role in the release of Yusoph's son. The commissioner was not available to give comments on the senator’s claims.

But Enrile said he had handled similar cases in the past, and that his experiences have taught him what to do in such situations.

"Marami akong kinausap, lalo na mga pulis, defense department, military, pinagtulung-tulungan yan (I talked to a lot of people, especially the police, the defense department, the military, many people helped)," he said.

He said he told the police and the military to use the Human Security Act of 2007, which allows them to arrest terror suspects without warrants and temporarily detain them without charges.

"In the beginning they were not aware they can use the Human Security Act (but) I said juice it," he said.

Enrile noted, however, that the release was not just his doing, and that government forces did everything it could. "They were doing their job. I would like to commend the people who handled it," he said.

He also said that "more or less" he knows who the culprits were, though he refused to say identify them.

Nuraldin was abducted inside a mosque in Marawi City last June 20 by unidentified men who reportedly sought the nullification of certain votes in Lanao del Sur. He is the sixth of Yusoph's 10 children. — LBG/RSJ, GMANews.TV

Florencio Vargas, who will not be able to witness President Benigno Aquino III delivers his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the opening of the 15th Congress on Monday.

Acting Secretary-General Marilyn Barua-Yap said that Vargas succumbed to leukemia at St. Luke’s Hospital in Quezon City last Thursday night. He was 78.

“I was informed about the death of Congressman Vargas. It’s unfortunate that his death came before the opening of the 15th Congress on Monday. We extend our condolences to his loved ones,” Yap said in a phone interview.

Quezon Rep. Lorenzo “Erin” Tanada, the spokesperson of the Liberal Party (LP), said Vargas was a member of the Lakas-Kampi-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) and signified intention of returning to the ruling LP party. Vargas is among the 37 lawmakers, who are on their last term.

The unfortunate death of Vargas has decreased the number of House members to 286 given that all party-list nominees will be proclaimed to represent their district in the Lower House.

Following this loss, the Lower Congress is expected to deal with a resolution calling for a special election in his district.

The previous 14th Congress also saw the loss of Tarlac Rep. Jose Yap Sr., Coop National Confederation of Cooperatives Rep. Guillermo Cua, Basilan Rep. Wahab Akbar, Mountain Province Rep. Victor Dominguez, Anakpawis Rep. Crispin Beltran, Misamis Oriental Danilo Lagbas and among others. The details of possible necrological services for Vargas were not yet available.

Wow... Masyado naman malaki ang 500M. a year para sa income ng Mall of the Valley. I have seen the building being constructed and it is just twice as big as the Santiago Commercial Complex being built in Santiago City...

I doubt if the rent in that mall is as high as the rent charged by high-end and middle class malls.

Assuming 30,000 pesos ( which is high enough) ang rent per space... ( 600 * 30,000 * 12) = 216,000,000 at most ang income niyan... and Assuming it will operate in full capacity... then you less the operating expenses and maintenance:)

Yung Santiago Commercial Complex, malaki din sya... comparable to one of the two buildings/wings of the Mall of the Valley. The reason why I stated that it is twice as big as the Mall of the Valley except that it is 4 floors only. Sabihin na nating 2.3 times bigger ang Mall of the Valley to be exact.:)...

No offense, I'm just being realistic guys.. So tama nga, mga 500M or more nga ang magiging income ng Tugue once income generating na yung mall!

Aparri Port Zone realization underway

Tuguegarao City (16 July) -- The Aparri Port Zone's vision to become an industrial and agribusiness area of Northern Luzon and the national gateway to East Asian Countries for trade and investments is nearing realization as the stakeholders vowed to support for its immediate construction.

In the stakeholders meeting for the Aparri Port Development held on July 6, Regional Director Milagros Rimando of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) hinted that a new Regional Development Council (RDC) Resolution will be needed because of the enlarged zone delineation proposed by the Local Government Unit of Aparri.

A Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution endorsed a zone delineation of 368 hectares with 12.75 hectares land area and 355.244 hectares water area, affecting 126 households with 140 families.

Rimando stressed that all issues regarding the resettlement area should be resolved before the project will be presented to the RDC.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Community Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO) and the Local Government Unit of Aparri assured that they will work together for a survey and resettlement planning.

Alternative areas to be donated by the Province of Cagayan and the Cagayan State University at Aparri will also be considered.

A memorandum of agreement will also be accomplished as regards to the devolution of Aparri Port from Philippine Ports Authority to LGU Aparri so that the construction of the port by a foreign developer will commence as soon as possible.

The sea port will be developed by the China Bond International Corporation through its local corporate affiliates namely, Lutra, Inc., and Marmotini Mining Corporation. (PIA 2)

The Department of Agriculture (DA) wants to create exclusive economic zones for agribusiness that would take into consideration the nuances of food production and an expanded set of incentives for locators.

Philippine Agricultural Development and Commercial Corp. (PADCC) president Marriz Agbon said  Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap has approached the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) on the creation of such zones.

“Ideally, the agribusiness zones should be near the port so [locators] would be able to easily ship out their produce. The area should also be bigger because potential investors require large tracts of land for planting,” said Agbon in a telephone interview.

The PADCC chief said the DA is now surveying areas where the ecozones could be built. PADCC is a government-owned and controlled corporation attached to the DA, and is in charge of assisting investors who want to go into joint venture deals with local agriculture companies.

In relation to the agribusiness zones, the DA wants to expand the scope of incentives for locators.

The perks and incentives Peza and the Board of Investments (BOI) give local and foreign investors include up to eight years maximum of income tax holiday—specifically for firms registered with the BOI as a “pioneer” business—and a 5-percent gross income tax in lieu of all national and local taxes for Peza-registered firms. 

In her 2007, State of the Nation Address, President Arroyo said she has approved the establishment of an agribusiness zone in Lallo, Cagayan.

“The recent visit of Saudi investors compelled [us] to seek solution to a dilemma where investors want to own the land they are putting investments into. Saudi companies want that, but again, that is not allowed by existing Philippine laws,” said Agbon.

The Saudi Investment Team that arrived in the country last week committed to invest $300 million in the country’s farm sector. Saudi businessmen expressed keen interest in the propagation of corn, basmati rice, alfalfa, bananas, pineapples and mariculture projects.

Agbon said the $300-million commitment involves the development of some 20,000 hectares of agriculture lands, although the government has allotted 1.2 million to 1.5 million hectares of forestry management areas to accommodate possible investments from the Saudis.
