According to some Mohammed VI,"D2" would have been granted its building permit!

Some important announcement is to be made on January 18th by the EPAD(organisation which runs the Défense District),indeed most of them are to be officially approved/validated.

"D2" appears to be one of them (along with "Hermitage Plaza","Carpe Diem","Générali","Air2","Majunga","Ava"..),however "Signal"(Jean Nouvel) is more & more likely to be cancelled (no investors),and "Phare" hasn't even been mentioned (still struggling to get the needed funds as well...)

Let's wait & see as things should be much clearer on 18/01...

True but an arguably bigger loss is to happen in La Défense with the destruction of Aurore Tower, the brownish building on the first two pictures of Jex's post. It will be replaced by Air2 tower.

I agree with M@rtoc though. As much as I like the future AIR2 tower, I think they could have chosen another old building to be taken down as Aurore (that's its name) whose construction started in 1971, is very distinctive with its white stripes and brass clad, it's pretty lovely actually and I think it's sad to destroy it, there's so much worse in LD than Aurore...but it's condemned anyway, so be it.

Like in march 2010, the organization running La Défense, the Epad (Etablissement Pour l'Aménagement de La Défense) takes stock on the 'plan de renouveau de La Défense' launched in 2006 by Nicolas Sarkozy who was at the time the Epad president.

[...]Des engagements juridiques fermes ont été signés ces derniers mois qui dépassent, quand on additionne les m² nouveaux, ce chiffre. Tu sum up, work for D2 is to start shortly (autumn 2010), which in this case, will start with the demolition of Veritas.

IrishMan, there's no 'if this gets built' as everything is secured since february 2010, as I said in my previous post, work's gonna start very shortly now. By late 2010, we'll be having 2 towers on track with Carpe Diem & D2, and from 2011, many more with Majunga, Generali, Ava, Air2, Hermitage Plaza...:)

I can't tell you precisely Ramses, but as you can see in the above picture, D2 will be very close to Air2, actually way too close imo...I think that's a pity to see such a beautiful tower hidden behind the lovely but tall Air2 tower. Furthermore from the famous axis (Arc de Triomphe...) the major part of D2 will also be hidden by Hermitage Plaza. D2 should have been built on the left hand side of the Grande Arche... :(

According to Mynight (french administrator on Paris Skyscraper), the demolition order of the VERITAS building (pic below)has just been put in to the company liable for the job (PRODEMO). Therefore, its demolition will start mid june & is due to take 6 months.

Indeed Talisker, D2 will be built "en blanc" (no pre-let). Owing to its amazing & unusual shape, I doubt that this one will have difficulty finding tenants though...

'White sheets of death' do not seem to be a french specificity I noticed...(same for the France Telecom building which was destroyed to allow Carpe Diem's construction). We'll see if they use one for Aurore/Iris/Berkeley (buildings to be destroyed for respectively AIR2 Tower/GENERALI Tower/AVA Tower).

I agree with you Hseugut. Air2 will also bring something new to the skyline, as well as Phare (of course:)) & Generali (if the latter is confirmed...but it's likely to be).

Aurore's destruction is due next september btw.

The demolition progresses very quickly, besides the workers think that it could be completed by august 12th. Then they will need to evacuate all the rubble & clear the site for D2's groundworks to start late september :).

That slab is something like 20 meters high which is really high. We even see the inside corridors in open air on the last picture.

It makes us realize the infrastructure mess which is La Défense. As a matter of fact, On top right of the first picture I quoted, we can see the Aurore tower (with the orange windows and the air con at some of them). If I recall correctly, it should be torn down soon to build another building.

Looks like they're about to start piling! Good to see this is going ahead as planned.

Clery, regarding Aurore, its demolition was confirmed yesterday by Philippe Chaix :

Les travaux de déconstruction de la tour Aurore pour laisser place à la tour Aire 2, commenceront début 2012, commente Philippe Chaix en expliquant que les travaux de destruction d'Aurore prendront environ seize mois. La tour sera déconstruite étage par étage. Le chantier de Aire 2 pourra ainsi débuter en 2013. Le permis de construire de la tour Aire 2 fait pour l'heure l'objet de deux recours : un de SOGECAP (le constructeur de la tour D2) et l'autre de la tour Manhattan.

Let's remain careful though, like I said, the video dates from 2007 & some changes might have been made since...

Having said that, if you look at post #197, the lights appear to be LED lights (& as far as I remember, the author of all those pics, Spoudzzi, had confirmed it to me a few weeks ago), so, the final result might look like that visible in the video, time will tell...

Now, I can't wait for the core & steel to rise...:D
