Lucena City — Tomas Martinez, a Philippine Air Force sergeant, captured the first lap of the Tour of Luzon, winning the relatively easy run from Quezon City to this bustling city in Southern Tagalog.

Martinez, a member of Road Bike Phil/7-11 and younger brother of Tour veteran Wilfredo Martinez from Tarlac, outsprinted fellow breakaway rival Jeffrey Monton in the last 100 meters to win the initial lap.

Martinez thus became the first cyclist to wear the yellow jersey of the revival of the event last held in 1975.

A veteran of three international races in Bangkok, Korea and Taiwan, Martinez negotiated the 136-kilometers race in 3:39:58.12 and won P5,000.

Martinez, 29, said he hopes to sustain his win and win his first crown.

Monton, one of the youngest participants at 19 years old, stayed with the four-man lead pack from start to the finish line.

“Sumabay lang ako at hindi ako lumaban ng sabayan baka maubos ako dahil mga beterano yung mga kalaban ko,” said Monton.

Martinez qualified to the tour proper by ruling the second elimination held in Pasay City last February and placed second to Baler Ravina in the first elimination held in Tagaytay City in Cavite.

Monton, who won the second prize P3,000, clocked 3:40:03.12, followed by Joel Calderon, who checked in 3:40:08.12. Sherwin Diamsay finished 3:42:22.05, the same time posted by Lloyd Lucien Reynante.

Reynante, son of two-time tour champion Manuel Reynante and a seven-time member of the national cycling team that saw action in 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok and three Southeast Asian Games, caught up with Diamsay in Cavinti.

“Hindi namin napuna nakawala sina Martinez, Calderon, Monton at Diamsay dahil nagbantayan kami nina Ramos (Merculio), Davadilla (Warren), Ryan Tangulig (Ryan) at Ravina (Baler),” said the 29-year-old Reynante.

“Okay lang. First lap pa lang naman. Marami pang mangyayari sa darating na lap. Sa Baguio magkakaalaman,” said Reynante.

Martinez , Monton, Calderon and Diamsay broke away from the main peloton after 25 kilometers from the starting point in Quezon City Eliptical Circle.

181 projects in Quezon finished in 2008 — DPWH (http://mb.com.ph/node/195235)

LUCENA CITY -- The Quezon IV district engineering office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported yesterday that in 2008, it completed 181 of 259 projects costing P379 million.

In his report sent to DPWH Secretary Hermogenes E. Ebdane Jr. and Region 1V-A Director Bonifacio O. Seguit, District Engineer Ronnel M. Tan, who was adjudged recently by DPWH officials as the "Most Outstanding District Engineer in the Philippines" in 2008, said that top in the list of completed projects were congressional projects costing R40 million.

He said that under DPWH regular infrastructure projects, the district concreted, rehabilitated, and improved 14 roads at a total cost of R321 million. These were implemented in the 10 towns of the fourth congressional district of Quezon Province.

Tan, who is also president of the Region IV-A chapter of the District Engineers League of the Philippines (DELP), said that 143 of 214 projects were completed and funded with the congressional development fund of Rep. Lorenzo M. Tañada III. These include 66 road and bridge projects, nine flood-control and drainage projects, 12 projects for the repair of school buildings, one project for the improvement of hospital and health services.

Tan said that Rep. Leonila Chaves, a party-list congresswoman, provided R1 million for the construction of a multi-purpose building in Gumaca, Quezon.

The Department of Education (DepEd) also allotted P11.08 million for the construction of 20 one-classroom school buildings and repair of two two-classroom school buildings, and two three-classroom school buildings which were all completed ahead of schedule, the district engineer said.

He also said that the Department of Agriculture (DA) also funded farm-to-market road projects in six barangays in Quezon to ensure the speedy delivery of farm produce to the market.

It excited her no end that after more than four decades, veteran actress Perla Bautista has been given a title role to play – as “Fausta,” a holy woman who founded the Sacred Heart College (SHC) in Lucena City run by the Daughters of Charity. Perla was handpicked by director Felino Tañada and Sr. Fe G. Gedalanga, DC, president of SCH to play the role.

Hermana Fausta Labrador opened a charity school on April 27, 1884 at the age of 26. She died on Sept. 14, 1942 at the age of 84, leaving behind a lasting legacy: SHC, the oldest Catholic school in Quezon province.

“She only wanted to served God; she ended up changing a million lives,” reads the blurb of “Fausta.”
Co-starring with Perla is Tommy Abuel, who plays Fernando Amorsolo. After World War II, award of Hermana Fausta asked the painter to do a portrait of the SHC founder using a picture as model. He refused, saying he only painted live models. But the ward wouldn’t take no for an answer so Amorsolo asked who the woman was. Upon learning of the noble deeds of Hermana Fausta he agreed.
The Amorsolo painting hangs on the wall of the board room at the president’s office. The face of Perla is superimposed on the painting, used in the layout of the movie.

Talents from Lucena and nearby Tayabas are playing other roles in “Fausta,” which premiered last month in SM Lucena. Perla hopes it’ll be shown in other theaters as the life and times of Hermana Fausta Labrador is inspiring and heartwarming. The award-winning actress is all praises for the warmth and kindness of the SHC sisters and all those involved in the making of “Fausta.” She considers it a great honor to play the title role in “Fausta.”

Lucena City, Quezon — Leaders of this coconut-producing province endorsed Friday a move in the House of Representatives to conduct an inquiry into shares of stocks of San Miguel Corp. (SMC) derived from the coconut levy fund and owned by about 18 million coconut farmers nationwide.

The leaders, who include Gov. Raffy Nantes and former governor Eddie Rodriguez, expressed their unconditional support for a resolution filed in the House by Quezon 2nd district Rep. Proceso Alcala who is asking the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) to inquire into the investments made by SMC as these may affect the value of the 27 percent and 20 percent blocks of SMC shares potentially owned by millions of coconut farmers and their families.

The coconut levy under the Coconut Investment Fund, created by Republic Act 6260, was a tax collected from coconut farmers from 1973 to 1982. It provided for the collection of P0.55 tax for every 100 kilos of copra.

Eventually the tax increased from P15 to a maximum of P100 for every 100 kilos of copra. This was administered by the Coconut Consumers Stabilization Fund (CCSF) created by Presidential Decree No. 276.

It was estimated that P9.695-billion CCSF levy was collected from coconut farmers. The billions in coco levy funds and the estimated annual earnings of 20 percent were taken care of by the PCA, the Philippine Coconut Planters Federation (Cocofed), the United Coconut Planters Bank and SMC.

LUCENA CITY, Philippines—With the start of Holy Week, volunteer guards are back at the entrances of Mount Banahaw.

“Even if Mount Banahaw has been closed for the past five years, member organizations of Bantay Banahaw always report for duty during Holy Week to protect it from all kinds of environmental destroyers,” Archie Malabanan told the Inquirer on Sunday.

Malabanan, 28, a native of Dolores town at the foot of Banahaw, is the secretary general of the Ugnayan ng mga Mamumundok ng Banahaw, a local group of mountaineers and one of 13 organizations that compose the Bantay Banahaw.

He noted that in the past five years, despite the government prohibition on mountain climbing, overzealous pilgrims and mountaineers managed to slip through the cordon.

“There are still lots of . They have found ways and schemes to slip through us. But we always managed to locate them and send them down, sometimes with the help of police and the military,” he laughed.

The Banahaw De Dolores Outdoor Club (BDOC) was the first mountaineering group that initiated the Bantay Banahaw operation in 1994.

It was joined by mountaineers from San Pablo City and Nagcarlan in Laguna and Tiaong, Candelaria, Sariaya, Tayabas, and Lucena City in Quezon and other volunteer groups.

“I’ve been part of Bantay Banahaw for the past 13 years as a member of BDOC,” Malabanan said.

Being a volunteer guard is risky, he said.

“One volunteer has lost his life when he fell down a rocky cliff while trying to help a pilgrim,” Malabanan said.

He recalled nearly engaging violators into a fight because of their refusal to obey the law and continuous environmental destruction like cutting trees and gathering medicinal plants inside the closed area of the mountain.

Once, a wildfire atop Banahaw nearly cost Malabanan’s life when the raging fire almost caught up with him.

“As team leader, I must be the last to leave our assigned spot to make sure that no one is left behind. Then suddenly, a fire started from a lighted candle left behind by a pilgrim. I was just lucky that I quickly found a trail out of the fire,” he recalled.

He said Bantay Banahaw is an environmental protection program parallel to the annual tradition of pilgrims and tourists flocking to Banahaw.

The Banahaw volunteer guards are composed of local governments of the towns surrounding the mountain, “responsible” mountaineers, environmentalist groups with the support of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the police, and the military.
“It is a cause-driven gathering of Banahaw protection advocates. We all rally behind the conservation, protection, and preservation of the mountain as a watershed, a richly diverse mountain habitat, a refuge and sanctuary of mysticism and one of the threatened few remaining forest areas,” Malabanan said.

The government’s five-year closure of Banahaw ended on March 9.

[B]The Protected Area Management Board, however, decided to seal off the mountain until 2012 to sustain its rehabilitation.

Isang halimbawa na dito ay ang ginawang pagkakaloob ng ilang gamit sa Barber Shop sa ilang barangay sa lungsod bilang kanyang tulong sa pangkabuhayan sa mga tao gayundin ang Scholarship Program para sa ilang kabataan na matatalino ngunit walang kakayahan ang mga magulang na makapagpaaral ng kanilang mga anak dahil sa kawalan ng sapat na salapi.
Sa pamamagitan din ni Brizuela, isinusulong ngayon ng BJB Foundation, Inc. ang pagkakaroon ng Botika sa Barangay para sa murang gamot na mabibili ng mga tao. Naniniwala ang opisyal na makakatulong ito ng malaki lalo na sa mga mahihirap na pamilyang walang kakayanang bumili ng gamot sa mga kilalang botika.

Ayon sa nakararami, ang nasabing opisyal ay marami ng naitulong sa mga Lucenahin simula noong mag-umpisa itong manungkulan.
“Tinutupad ko lamang sa taumbayan anumang ipinangako ko noong eleksyon”, paliwanag naman ni Brizuela.

Sa kabila ng mga serbisyong naipagkakaloob ng opisyal, may mga kumakalat pa ring pagpuna dito tulad ng reklamo umano ng ilang taga-Barangay Gulang-Gulang na hindi tinupad ang pagkakaloob ng school classrooms sa isang paaralan dito.

Paliwanag naman ni Brizuela, wala siyang natatandaan na anumang ipinangako na magkakaloob siya ng classrooms o building sa alinmang eskuwelahan sa lungsod sapagkat ito aniya ay proyekto na ng isang alkalde.
Wala rin umano siyang natatandaan na humiling sa kanya ng tulad ng nabanggit kung kaya naniniwala itong ito’y pawang paninira lamang sa kanya.

Pagka kuway baka nga maka-uwi rin ako dyan... namimiss ko na ang bayan. Makakain man lang ng pansit-lucban:D at makapagdala ng langgonisa at broas

Pwede ka sigurong dumaan sa Gumaca. Ang alam ko kasi mula Lucena sa Grand Terminal meron mga byaheng Unisan, P.Burgos, atbp bayan sa Bondoc Peninsula.

Susmiyo! Sinabi mo pa! kabagal nga yata ng gawa dyan sa circumferrential road na iyan!

At pag akinse ng Mayo tiyak iyon na mahabang bubunuin mo mula Tiaong hanggang Lucban. Kaya bumyahe ka mga isa o dalawang araw bago ang petsang naturan.

Ay uwi na at nang makakuha ka ng mga larawan at nang maiposte mo dine... :)

President Cyril C. Del Callar led the groundbreaking ceremonies held on 29 August 2008 for the construction of the new Polilio Diesel Power Plant, in Barangay Tamulaya on Polilio Island. The new power plant under construction, which will house two (2) new additional 500 kilowatt diesel power generating sets, is situated around 6.5 kilometers from the Port of Polilio.

The project, which is expected to be completed by March 2009, shall greatly enhance the capacity and reliability of NPC-SPUG’s service in the Island of Polilio. Polilio is among the areas being served by NPC-SPUG in pursuit of its mandate by law to undertake the electrification of areas not connected to the main transmission grid, also referred to as Missionary Areas.

Also present during the ceremonies was Vice-President Lorenzo S. Marcelo who headed the NPC-Small Power Utilities Group (NPC-SPUG) contingent. NPC-SPUG personnel and officials present were NPC-SPUG Luzon Operations Manager Mr. Glicerio S. Alpajora, Marinduque/Quezon/Northern Luzon Operations Manager Mr. Perfect A. Llorente, and Polilio DPP Plant-in-Charge Mr. Arthur A. Aganan, among others.

Governor Rafael B. Nantes of the Province of Quezon, Mayor Isarme A. Bosque of Polilio, Mayor Rogel E. Postor of Panukalan, Mayor Gil P. Establecida of Burdeos, and GM Victor R. Cada of QUEZELCO II were also in attendance.

Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago appealed yesterday to the World Bank (WB) to furnish the Senate with its official report detailing the blacklisted Filipino contractors and political personalities involved in the alleged bid rigging of Philippine government projects.

Santiago said the WB must justify the claims incriminating several Filipino officials and personalities, including First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo and a former senator.

“If the World Bank gives me the documents that incriminate the First Gentleman or any other public official, I will immediately set a hearing and invite them. If they don’t appear, I’ll take it a step further and subpoena them,” Santiago warned.

Santiago said she has to secure the official WB report in order for the Senate to have proper jurisdiction over the investigation.

She said she could not use unofficial documents in the Senate investigation to run after the firms and personalities involved in collusive practices.

Santiago, chair of the Senate economic affairs committee leading the investigation into the contractors’ alleged cartel, wrote a letter to WB Philippine Country Director Bert Hofman requesting official copies of the report.

When contacted for comment, the World Bank office in Manila referred the reporter to its website.

Santiago believed though that the copies of the report furnished to the Department of Finance and the Office of the Ombudsman do not provide the complete picture.

“I am hoping that the (World) Bank itself will voluntarily waive its immunity, and give us documents that might lead to the identification of certain Filipino politicians or other public officials who may have facilitated the alleged collusion,” she said.

“I appealed to World Bank Director Hofman… in the interest of Philippine public service and our anti-corruption campaign, to voluntarily release the documents to the committee,” Santiago said.

Santiago also said her copy of the WB report, furnished by the contractors to her committee, did not mention the supposed testimony against Mr. Arroyo.

Santiago was responding to a news item alleging that a Japanese contractor, who had since left the country, allegedly linked Mr. Arroyo to collusion among the three firms banned by the WB.

“The news item is hearsay and therefore has no probative value,” she pointed out.

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile also said the WB report that he read did not have the allegations against Mr. Arroyo and other officials, including the supposed “fixers” at the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Enrile added the Senate could not compel the Ombudsman to submit the WB report and other documents to them.

“(The Office of the Ombudsman is) a constitutional commission. The WB, they don’t even want to appear. We invited them, they don’t want to appear,” Enrile said.

Several sectors also urged the disclosure of the controversial WB report linking the President’s husband into the bidding scandal.

United Opposition (UNO) president and Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay said Finance Secretary Margarito Teves and the Office of the Ombudsman should take the initiative to disclose the contents of the WB report.

He said the disclosure of the WB report “is now a matter of national interest.”

University of the Philippines professor Harry Roque said he sent a letter to Hofman and the Ombudsman to make public the report.

Roque, representing the Concerned Citizens’ Movement, stressed the importance of the disclosure of the contents of the report that may also lead to the criminal liability of the personalities mentioned.

“Needless to say, because the provisions of the Philippine law on procurement, Republic Act 9184 mirrors the (World) Bank’s guidelines on procurement, (the WB’s) investigation result may also lead to the criminal culpability of individuals in the Philippines,” Roque said.

Sen. Panfilo Lacson, for his part, also stressed the importance of securing a copy of the WB report.

Lacson also dared the First Gentleman’s lawyer Ruy Rondain to continue denying the authenticity of the appointments book of Mr. Arroyo that he presented during the Senate investigation into the WB expose.

Lacson warned he would make public “one sack of evidence” against Mr. Arroyo, including photographs, checks, personal and even love letters.

Lacson maintained he has the evidence of money laundering against the First Gentleman.

Aside from Mr. Arroyo and the former senator, Lacson said the WB report also mentioned congressmen and other politicians and public works officials.

“The claim that an official and the First Gentleman did not have anything to do with the rigged bidding would be belied by this WB report because even the five percent commission (as bribe for the approval of projects) was indicated in the WB report,” Lacson said.

Lacson said he has “excerpts” of the WB report, which are not substantial to make conclusions.

“There were no attachments (in that WB report). I don’t know if those witnesses gave sworn statements or were merely interviewed by WB,” he said.

Lacson said Santiago probably got a different copy of the WB report.

No cartel

News reports also named several contractors in Congress.

Among them is Cotta Builders, a construction firm owned by Quezon Rep. Proceso Alcala.

Alcala admitted he is part owner of Cotta Builders but stressed that the firm had not participated in any government project after he was elected as Quezon representative.

“The said construction company has not undertaken projects since I joined government service. It has always been my policy not to influence anybody, or use my clout, to get or receive benefits from the government, or acquire government projects for myself or for the members of my family,” Alcala said in a statement.

A ranking DPWH official, who was reported to be among those involved in the bid rigging, also denied being part of the “cartel.”

DPWH assistant regional director for Region 4 Huillio Belleza challenged his accusers to file charges and prove the allegations.

“I have been an assistant regional director for the last 12 years. If I have strong connections as they say, then maybe I should have been a director now or even an undersecretary. The people in the department know my character. I live a simple life,” Belleza said.

The WB, for its part, placed safety mechanisms that would ensure there would be no corruption in the implementation of the $43-million worth of agriculture projects under the five-year Mindanao Rural Development Program (MRDP).

WB Task Team leader for MRDP Carol Geron said the action plan, now on its second five-year phase, was drawn up even before the bidding scandal broke out.

MANILA, Philippines - A congressman is urging the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) to investigate what other lawmakers have described as the “raid” recently conducted by San Miguel Corp. (SMC) on Meralco and Petron.

In Resolution 1024, Quezon Rep. Proceso Alcala said the PCGG should tell the country’s 18 million coconut farmers and their families whether their 27-percent share in San Miguel has been used in the company’s recent spate of “unusual” investments, and if it was used, how its value was affected.

He said the PCGG, together with the Philippine Coconut Authority, is the agency mandated to preserve these assets for coconut farmers.

He said the Sandiganbayan, in a decision on May 10, 2007, has awarded ownership of 27 percent of San Miguel to the farmers.

Alcala pointed out that in addition to the 27-percent stake, which is worth tens of billions of pesos, farmers are claiming ownership of an additional 20 percent of the food and beverage giant.

“Recent reports indicate that SMC has made or is set to make a series of substantial investments which would impact or affect the value of the 27-percent and 20-percent blocks of SMC shares… the number of such substantial investments happening in a short span of time appears unusual,” he stressed.

He added that coconut farmers have the right to know the status of their money.

Alcala belongs to the Liberal Party block in the House.

During martial law, coconut farmers contributed to coconut industry funds through the coconut levy.

Besides billions SMC has invested in Meralco and Petron, Alcala wants other recent investments, investment plans and financial maneuvers the company has made to be made public.

These include its reported interest in acquiring a Bataan power plant, its P48-billion water venture, its sale of 43 percent of San Miguel Brewery to Kirin Beer of Japan, its $1-billion stock offer, its deal with Qatar Telecom, and its stake in Liberty Telecom.

Meralco is the country’s biggest electricity distributor, while Petron is the country’s largest oil refiner-retailer.

Meralco was the darling of stock players last week because of market rumors that Hong Kong’s First Pacific Group, represented here by businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan, has accumulated a substantial number of shares.

Speculations have it that Pangilinan, known in business circles as MVP, is allied with the Lopezes, who run Meralco and who are reportedly girding for a boardroom battle with SMC’s Eduardo Cojuangco Jr. and Ramon Ang.

The Meralco shares SMC has acquired were those of state pension fund Government Service Insurance System (GSIS). MVP was eyeing the same block of shares and reportedly had a deal with GSIS before SMC inexplicably bagged them.

SMC’s acquisition of Petron is in itself a controversial story. Ashmore Group of the United Kingdom bought Saudi Aramco’s 40-percent stake in the oil refiner and then gobbled up the government’s 40 percent in a subsequent deal.

It then turned around and sold the bulk of its Petron stake to SMC.

Ashmore’s representative here is Marcos-era trade minister Roberto Ongpin.

There are reports that the Ashmore-Petron-SMC deal violated securities laws.

Some congressmen are asking why the government did not sell its remaining 40-percent ownership of Petron through public bidding.

REGIONAL PROJECT MONITORING AND EVALUATION SYSTEM (RPMES): Getting project implementation out of harms way (http://calabarzon.neda.gov.ph/rpms.html)

Monitoring and evaluation (M & E) is one of the stages in a project cycle that is done before, during and after project implementation. This ensures that projects are carried out according to approved quality standards, within budget and on time. Furthermore, M & E checks if a project achieved its preferred objectives and purpose. Thus, it would involve systematic collection and analysis of information about events associated with the implementation of development programs projects. The development councils at different levels of the government will use these M&E Information for decision making, project facilitation and for public information.

In the pursuit of government’s decentralization policy, Executive Order No. 308 was issued mandating the Regional Development Councils (RDCs) to monitor, evaluate and formulate recommendations on the implementation of projects at the lowest possible level.

It is on this context that the Regional Project Monitoring and Evaluation System (RPMES) was established by virtue of Executive Order No. 93. The RPMES serves as a guide for the PMCs at the regional, provincial, city and municipal levels in the M&E of programs and projects under their jurisdiction. It also provides a venue for the active participation of non-government and private volunteer organizations in the monitoring and validation processes.

To further facilitate M&E Memorandum Circular No. 1-94 was issued by the National Project Monitoring Committee (NPMC) enjoining the Project Implementors to report progress if implementation, to the respective PMC at the regional, provincial, city and municipal levels and to provide monitors more detailed information on on-going projects and problem solving activities.

Aside from these, RPMES also aims to elevate unresolved issues and problems at various levels to the Cabinet or the President for resolution and final action through the NPMC or concerned Presidential Assistants (Pas) as appropriate and to provide information on lessons learned in implementation of future similar projects.

At the regional level, projects that will be monitored and evaluated include all foreign-assisted projects (loan or grant funded), inter provincial projects implemented in two or more provinces in the region, all area development projects implemented in the region and other projects considered by the Office of the President, regional development councils/planning board.

The PMC at the regional level comprises of NEDA Regional Director as chairman, DBM Regional Director as co-chairman, DILG Regional Director, PMS-OP Regional Team Leader, one RDC-NGO representatives as members. The NEDA Regional Office will serve as the secretariat of the RPMC.

On the other hand, the Provincial/City/Municipal PMC composition is left to the discretion of the Local Development Council subject to inclusion of the following as mandatory members: DILG representative or Provincial/City/Local Government Officer assigned in the area, one representative of NGO/PO, one representative of NGO members in the Local Development Council. The Chairman is appointed by the local chief executive from among the nominees of the Local Development Council.

There is an on-going advocacy effort in Calabarzon, for LGUs to have their respective PMC operational. Some of the notable projects wherein the RPMC helped in terms of project monitoring are the Quezon Tourism Coastal Road, Batangas Port, STAR Tollway, Ternate-Nasugbu Road, Tiaong Bypass Road, ADB 6th Road, several bridges under the President’s Bridge Program and the SLEX Rehabilitation.

The early implementation of the Quezon Tourism Coastal Road starting from Sariaya is noteworthy to mention as one of the RPMC accomplishments. The said road is only a pipeline project for Calabarzon back then before RPMC validated the need for its early construction.

Through one of the RPMC’s monitoring visits, the Task Force Sariaya was created composed of RDC Chairman Ricky Osmond, the hardworking Congressman Proceso Alcala, DPWH Regional Director Bonifacio Seguit, RPMC Chairman Severino Santos, the RPMC members, Nation Granary, Inc. President Ricky Ang, ex-Sariaya Mayor Connie Doromal and the Sangguniang Bayan of Sariaya.

The task force created was critical in starting this project. (A separate article about this project can be found on this issue of Calabarzon Project Monitor.) It is the desire of the RDC to speed up infrastructure development in CALABARZON to support its fast growing economy. Therefore, RDC calls for the activation lf the Local Project Monitoring Committee to work hand in hand with RPMC and help identify and solve problems in project implementation at hand.

RDC also calls for Congressmen to support all national projects that will bring development in their respective districts.

The Terminal

Financial Backing

In our quest to bring our vision into reality, NGI has tapped the Philippine Export and Import Credit Agency (PhilExim). PhilExim issued its guarantee approval to Nation Granary Incorporated in May 2004 for our conceptualized port and bulk handling facility.

Initially acquiring a guarantee from the Philippine Export and Import Credit Agency amounting to USD33.03 Million, the European Investment Bank, through the funding facility of ABN AMRO, syndicated a loan for the grains facility, in which United Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB) and Philippine Bank of Communications (PBCom) were named partners.

The Dream is Now a Reality

As of the end of year 2005, capitalization has already reached 1.2 Billion Pesos.

With guarantee approval received on May 2004, construction immediately begun, and as of the first quarter of 2006, commissioning is already being made. Currently, 3 vessels have arrived at the Sariaya port to test the equipment for operation and efficiency, in preparation for full operations.

The grains facility has a total storage capacity of 225,000 metric tons. And paired with an 18-meter draft port, it is the only one that can accommodate to dock on-shore, cape size vessel of 80,000 to 150,000 metric ton capacity, which is expected to be favored in 2007. The discharge rate of the unloaders at 1,200 metric tons per hour is already quite impressive compared to advanced facilities in other countries.

The grains facility is expected to be the biggest and most advanced storage in Southeast Asia, which would strengthen the Philippines’ dream of becoming the grains transshipment hub of Asia.

Foreign government officials who had the opportunity to visit the facility are no less impressed, and the facility is already being considered the most sophisticated, thanks to the top-of-the-line ship unloaders, that are not only reliable but also efficient.

The Philippine Government has supported the project, as it will earn substantially from docking fees, which would substantially add to its revenue without any added investment. Hello ulit sa lahat. Sorry ngayon lang ulit ako nakapag log on dito. i hate to dissapoint everyone pero unfortunately hinde ako makakapag vacation sa Lucena this year. baka next year nalang ulit. busy kse sa bagong trabaho and mahirap mag bakasyon kapag bago sa trabaho. sayang nga eh namiss ko ang 125th anniversary ng SHC and ang fiestahan. anyways salamat ulit sa lahat for appreciating my pictures of Lucena (maski luma na) and hopefully in 2010 makakauwi ulit ako and will bring you new pictures to look at. Biomass plant, sisimulan ng itayo sa Unisan, Quezon

PITOGO, Quezon- Ibinalita ng isang mambabatas sa Kongreso ang nalalapit na pagtatayo ng isang 11-megawatt Biomass power plant na kauna-unahang planta ng kuryente sa bansa na ang gatong ay mula sa bunot, kayakas at bao ng niyog sa mga kasapi ng Quezon Electric Cooperative 1 (QUEZELCO 1) sa ginanap na ika-37 membership general assembly noong Abril 24 ng bayang ito.
Ito ang tinuran ni Quezon 3rd district Cong. Danilo Suarez matapos makumpirma ang pagdating ng 15 inhinyero Pranses at Indian upang bisitahin ang lugal na pagtatayuan sa Unisan, Quezon.
Sinabi pa ng Quezon solon na dalawang buwan simula ngayon ay malaking posibilidad na masimulan na ang nasabing biomass power plant.
Ani ni Suarez na kapag naisakatuparan ito sa pamamagitan ng nasyunal na pamahalaan ay hindi naasa ang QUEZELCO 1 sa National Power Corporation (NAPOCOR) para masuplayan ng kuryente ang mga bayan ng ikatlo at ika-apat na distrito ng Quezon,

Ang QUEZELCO 1 ay kumukuha ng suplay ng kuryente mula sa NAPOCOR na 22 megawatt, kaya kung makapag-ooperate ang planta ay 11 megawatt na lang ang dadagdagan ng kooperatiba.
Subalit, idinagdag pa ni Suarez na maliban sa plantang itatayo sa Unisan ay may dalawa pang biomass power plant ang nakatakdang itayo sa Catanauan at Calauag, bukod pa ang isa sa Camarines Sur. sa distrito ng sakop ng Cong. Datu Arroyo.
Kaya kapag naganap ang programang ito ni Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo at Suarez para sa Quezon ay ang QUEZELCO 1 na ang magbebenta ng sobrang kuryente na lilikhain ng mga planta.
Ang BioGen, isang banyagang imbestor ang mamumuhunan ng nasabing planta.

Lumilitaw sa mga dokumento na iniharap ng mga di- umano’y biktima na pinagkalooban sila ni Soliman ng deed of assignment para sa mga condominium units ngunit ang nabanggit na mga unit ay naka-assigned din sa ibang tao na nag-invest din.Pinalubha pa ito nang madiskubre nila na ibinenta pala sa ibang tao ang mga parehong unit na may deed of assignment sa kanila.
Bago humarap sa piskalya ang mga complainant ay ipinatawag ng pulis Tayabas sina Soliman para linawin ang reklamo laban sa Graceland ngunit hindi ito nagpakita.

MANILA, Philippines – The Supreme Court has denied with finality appeals to reverse its ruling that declared as unconstitutional laws that converted 16 municipalities into cities.

Voting 6-5, the court voided the following Republic Acts: 9389 (Baybay City in Leyte), 9390 (Bogo City in Cebu), 9391 (Catbalogan City in Samar), 9392 (Tandag City in Surigao del Sur), 9393 (Lamitan City in Basilan), 9394 (Borongan City in Samar), 9398 (Tayabas City in Quezon), 9404 (Tabuk City in Kalinga), 9405 (Bayugan City in Agusan del Sur), 9407 (Batac City in Ilocos Norte), 9408 (Mati City in Davao Oriental), 9409 (Guihulngan City in Negros Oriental), 9434 (Cabadbaran City in Agusan del Norte), 9435 (El Salvador City in Misamis Oriental), 9436 (Carcar City in Cebu), and 9491 (Naga City in Cebu).

“In view of the denial of the second motion for reconsideration, no further pleadings shall be entertained. Let entry of judgment be made in due course,” the high court said in a three-page resolution.

The court had voided the said laws converting the municipalities into cities in a resolution dated November 18, 2008.

The court said the municipalities were not exempt from the income requirement for cities of P100 million.

The income requirement for cities was raised to P100 million from P20 million after Republic Act 9009 amended the Local Government Code. The laws converting the 16 municipalities into cities were passed after RA 9009 took effect.

@hakz thanks for posting, mabuti ng nangyari yan sa bayan ng Tayabas hindi naman sa nagiging kontra ako pero base sa obserbasyon ko hindi pa talaga pwede ,una kulang sa ospital,makikipot ang kalye,hindi pa ganun karami ang negosyo,walang kolehiyo,...pero marami silang lugar na pagdadausan ng okasyon...konting pagpupursige nalang at pwede na ulit mag atim ng pagiging syudad ang Tayabas...

Tol Lucentino tatlo na ang Kamayan Yung Luma at Bago tapos yung huling pics Kamayn Resort and hotel mga 250 meters away sa kamayang bago...

Oo nga kasi walang tigil ang konstruksyon sa Graceland tapos may mababasa kang ganyang balita...nakakatakot.

LUCENA CITY—Quezon province has bagged nine Gawad Saka awards for outstanding achievements in agriculture in Region 4-A or the Southern Tagalog region.

Gov. Raffy Nantes commended the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) headed by Domingo Mamasig for besting other provinces in the region in nine out of 13 categories in the annual Gawad  Saka contest.

The nine categories won by Quezon are Outstanding Provincial Agricultural and Fishery Council; Outstanding Municipal Agricultural and Fishery Council (Pagbilao MAPC); Outstanding Rural Improvement Club (Villa Nava RIC, Gumaca); Outstanding Young Farmer Organization (4H Club of Binahaan, Pagbilao); Outstanding Rice Farmer (Macario Landicho, Tiaong); Outstanding High Value Commercial Crops Farmer (Sancho Buncha, Lucena City); Outstanding Young Farmer (Realito Reyes, Pagbilao); Outstanding Fisher Folk—Fish Culture Category (Socrates Estuita, Polillo); and Outstanding Small Farmers Organization (Magsasakang Tagapangalaga ng Kalikasan ng Munting Paraiso, Tiaong).

The Department of Agriculture launched the Gawad Saka search in 1970 and has since been an annual activity that gives recognition to outstanding farmers and fisherfolk and their respective organizations for their invaluable contributions in sustainable agriculture and fishery production.

Nantes urged Quezon farmers to engage in economic-based organizations and enterprises to truly uplift the agricultural sector of the province and improve the living conditions of farmers in the province.

Mamasig, chairman of the Gawad Saka provincial committee which led the search at the provincial level, said that the provincial government’s thrust in agriculture, tourism and economic enterprise and the contribution, cooperation and participation of Quezon farmers to the agriculture development program of Governor Nantes helped the province in winning the regional Gawad Saka awards.

The OPA cited Landicho for his use of modern farming technology, training in organic method of rice farming, and continuous research and study to improve his farming skills and uplift the economic condition of his family. Landicho, president for 10 years of Lumingon Farmers Association and chairman of Municipal Agricultural and  Fishery Council in  Tiaong, led in planting hybrid crops and urged his fellow farmers to plant high value commercial crops.

According to Cristina Lucila, OPA information and training officer, the regional Gawad Saka awardees were also the provincial Gawad Saka winners who will be honored at the Quezon Harvest Festival on May 20 to 22 at Perez Park Compound, Lucena city.

Medyo malayo. i think Northern Part lang ng Lucena ang Makikinabang Dito yung malapit sa Diversion road at mga commuters...tuloy na yun kasi yung Puregold nagpupursige kasi sila yata ang Supermarket anchor nito.

Isd there anyone here who knows the PNR Lucena yard well?
I am wondering how accessable it is, especially the locomotive depot which has a locomotive trapped there since the 2006 typhoons.

I wioll actually be going by car.
I was mostly wondering about access to walk around the yard and where the locomotive is stored. Do they stop you, or are they like other good ol regional Philippine locations where you are free to walk as you please?
I looked at Google Earth and, would you believe, of all the places a cloud has to be, it was right on the station.
Under the cloud the icons say there is an old Lucena City station and a Lucena City station. Is there two, or is this a mistake.

Looks like a big place - can't wait to see it.

Im sorry i am in fairview right now, Lucena google earth was nearly accurate, i think your refering to Lucena Police station, well the nearest landmark in PNR station was the Quezon Capitol Compound and Perez Park,and dont worry PNR Lucena is a landmark for itself and its very accessible...

Kailan ba magbubukas ang refurbished na train, inaabangan ko opening gusto ko sumakay sa mismong opening day papuntang camsur:banana:. first time ko rin sasakay ng tren ng kastila hehe.

Yes yung BIR yung malapit Sa planta ng Ginebra,masyadong maliit kasi yung building nila dati sa bayan.tol kelan ka huling bumisita ng Enverga?baka magulat ka pag nakabisita ka ulit,madami ng bagong building..

Last year ako huling bumisita sa EU, nakita ko yong new building ng College of Nursing and Allied health Sciences, yong alumni bldg, parang tapos na rin that time. then along enverga blvd, kahanay ng bowlodrome may 2 storey building, sabi nila, yon daw yong gagawing HS department. yon pa lang yong mga nakita ko.... patuloy pa ring umuunlad ang pamantasan....

^^nung punta ko sementado na yung malapad na daan na malapit sa Admin may saring parking lot na rin ang Admin,at yung paradahanng mga sirang bus ng enverga taintayuan na rin Building,yunh Dormintory bagong Building na rin.

kumuhal lang ako ng year book at dumaan na rin sa CCS.... ayos ah, dami ng bago, last august, may covered walk na don sa main gate, yon bang dating canteen sa labas sa may puno ng acacia tinatayuan na rin ng gusali ngayon?? wala na nga lang dormitory sa pamantasan ano??? nakapasyal ka ba ng botanical garden??

pansin ko rin yong biometric machine nila sa admin.. di na katulad dati na clock card gamit nila...sana maging online na rin ang kanilang operation... like sharepoint para paper less na rin transactions nila...

part of progress ika nga...tanda ko dati may mga nageexcursion pang mga taga bicol sa Lucena, hindi na mangyayari ngayon yun kasi may SM City Naga na ahehehe...pero im sure pag nag bukas uli ang OPM papasukin na ulit sila ng mga tao,bumalik na ang dating sigla ng Bayan, except OPMall building.

^^Last month finishing touches nalang daw yung ginagawa sa isang floor ng holistic,may mga cubicle na at naguumpisa ng magset up ng linya at computers, di ko alam kung open na sya... ang alam ko yung 3 floor ng holistic ay magiging okupado na ng Telegroup pag nag clik ito ang target nila ay 256 seats @ 2 shifts, ngayon nag simula sila with less than 100...

Narinig ko lang kasi kahapon sa www.sigaw967.com na on going daw ang hiring. maganding simulain in yan sa lungsod ng lucena. Nawa ay maging tagumpay ng sa ganon ay maraming matulungan lalo na ang mga kababayan nating lucenahin at quezonian....

parang tahimik ang usapang pang mardigras, may balita ka ba don??

^^@ Tol Sonburn ahehhe nakikinig ka din pala ng Sigaw...pareho tayo nakikinig ako sa portal para makuha ng balita kapag wala ako sa Lucena...oo naman marami na tayong kababayan na call center agent at pag nalamn nila ito tiyak na uuwi na sila ng Lucena,yung mga kaklase ko dati sa Infracomm malulupit mag ingles ang mga yun pero nagtatrabaho sila sa Lipa,Sta Rosa at manila kasi nga wala pa dati ...pag nalaman nila uuwi talaga ang mga yun ahehehe...

Chami
Chami is a tasty and popular food made of locally manufactured noodles and cooked in pancit like manner with pork, vegetables and the usual condiments. Its locally manufactured noodles make the recipe distinctly delicious.

Chami is affordable and is served in numerous restaurants in Lucena City and small snack bars and canteens. In support of the Chami industry, the City Government has made it an activity to conduct the chami festival during Pasayahan sa Lucena festivities.

The long strip of Quezon Avenue, major street in the city proper is

filled with participants who are part of the “Chami Festival”. Participants are provided with free ingredients and their own original recipe of chami. The winner gets a prize from the sponsors and from the City Government. This is done annually during the town fiesta.

On the basis of their respective Average Annual Income for CYs 2004-2007, as certified to by the Commission on Audit, the new classification of CALABARZON provinces, effective July 29,2008, shall be as follows:

Consequently, pursuant to Section 2 of the aforementioned Department Order No. 23-08, the classification of Provinces shall be based on the income brackets,a s follows:

First Class - 450 million or more

Second Class - 360 million or more 450 million

Third Class - 270 million or more but less than 360 million

Fourth Class - 180 million or more but less than 270 million

Fifth Class - 90 million or more but less than 180 million

On Saturday, June 6, singers Lovi Poe and Chris Cayzer will hold a one-night concert in Lucena City titled A Night 2 Remember in Lucena. This is the 3rd show of a series of bar tours that Lovi and Chris have done, the first one being in Manila last April. The feedback for the show have so far been great with the first 2 shows being sell-outs. Lovi has just had a hit with "Dito Sa Puso," the second single culled from her album Bloom under Sony Music Philippines. LUCENA CITY, May 13 — Quezon province bagged nine Gawad Saka awards for outstanding achievements in agriculture in Region 4–A or Southern Tagalog region.

Governor Raffy Nantes commended the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) headed by Domingo Mamasig during the flag raising ceremony last Monday for besting other provinces in the region in nine out of 13 categories in the annual Gawad Saka contest.

The nine categories won by Quezon province are: Outstanding Provincial Agricultural and Fishery Council; Outstanding Municipal Agricultural and Fishery Council (Pagbilao MAPC); Outstanding Rural Improvement Club (Villa Nava RIC, Gumaca); Outstanding Young Farmer Organization (4H Club of Binahaan, Pagbilao); Outstanding Rice Farmer (Macario Landicho, Tiaong); Outstanding High Value Commercial Crops Farmer (Sancho Buncha, Lucena City); Outstanding Young Farmer (Realito Reyes, Pagbilao); Outstanding Fisher Folk – Fish Culture Category (Socrates Estuita, Polillo); and Outstanding Small Farmers Organization (Magsasakang Tagapangalaga ng Kalikasan ng Munting Paraiso, Tiaong).

The Department of Agriculture launched the Gawad Saka search in 1970 and since then, has been an annual activity that gives recognition to outstanding farmers and fisherfolk and their respective organizations for their invaluable contributions in sustainable agricultural and fishery production.

Nantes urged Quezon farmers to engage in economic-based organizations and enterprises to truly uplift the agricultural sector of the province that will lead to the improvement of the living condition of the farmers in the whole province.

Mamasig, chairman of the Gawad Saka Provincial Committee which led the search at the provincial level, said that the provincial government's thrust in agriculture, tourism and economic enterprise and the contribution, cooperation and participation of Quezon farmers to the agriculture development program of Gov. Nantes helped in winning the regional Gawad Saka awards for the province.

The provincial agriculturist office cited Landicho for his use of modern farming technology, training in organic method of rice farming, his continuous research and study to improve his farming skills and uplift the economic condition of his family.

Landicho, president for 10 years Of Lumingon Farmers Association and chairman of Municipal Agricultural and Fishery Council in Tiaong, led in planting hybrid crops and urged his fellow farmers to plant high value commercial crops.

According to Cristina Lucila, information and training officer of OPA, the regional Gawad Saka awardees were also the provincial Gawad Saka winners who will be honored at the Quezon Harvest Festival on May 20-22 at Perez Park Compound, Lucena City. (PNA) LAP/pr/mec

Saan kaya umikot ang parada? Umabot ba sa lugar na mga timugang bahagi, gaya ng Granja/Kapitolyo/Merchan --- ito ang talagang "Bayan" (at syang nagdiriwang ng Fiesta) at hindi ang Marketview/Red-V (SM) at Iyam (QNHS)... Sabagay, Pasayahan sa Lucena ito kaya malamang "buong Lucena" na ang Fiesta.

PS. Ilang tulog nalang mapupuno na rin ang Thread 3! :)

LUCENA CITY — “Quezon Province will be No. 1 in the Philippines someday.” This was the bold prediction by provincial officials during the opening of the Quezon Harvest Festival held recently.

The officials appear to have good reasons to be optimistic about the future of Quezon Province.

Quezon’s greatest asset and most potent economic edge, Gov. Raffy Nantes said, is its vast productive agricultural lands that can make it the bread basket of Calabarzon and Metro Manila.

The so-called “Baguio vegetables” such as cabbage, brocolli, cauliflower and lettuce, Nantes said, are now being harvested in Quezon and supplied in bulk to Calabarzon and Metro Manila markets.

Last year, he said, Quezon’s agricultural production increased by 80 percent. Thanks to the national government which gave Quezon Province P100 million for irrigation systems.

During the opening day of the Quezon Harvest Festival, Agriculture Assistant Secretary for Operations and concurrently OIC Regional Technical Director for Calabarzon Dennis Araullo lauded the efforts of the provincial government headed by Governor Nantes and the provincial agricultural office headed by Domingo Mamasig for sustaining the continuous agricultural growth of the province.

“I agree with the assessment of Governor Nantes that Quezon would be the bread basket of Calabarzon and Metro Manila regions,” Araullo said.

He noted that Quezon has 512,000 hectares of fertile agricultural lands compared to the combined productive agricultural areas of 394,000 hectares of the four other Calabarzon provinces (Cavite - 70,000 hectares, Laguna- 86,000 hectares, Rizal - 32,000 hectares, and Batangas - 206,000 hectares).

Nantes said Quezon won’t go hungry not only because of its fertile farms but also because of its wide
fishing grounds and marine life, and rich natural resources.

“Our natural resources are our best hedge against worldwide recession,” he said. “I have imposed a total log ban, prohibited the cutting of coconut trees, and adopted strict measures against illegal fishing and illegal mining.”

He said that Quezon is now No. 7 in the list of the country’s richest provinces in terms of internal revenue allotment (IRA) with P1.11 billion. The other provinces with big IRA are Cebu - R1.5 billion; Laguna — P1.471 billion; Batangas — P1.355 billion; Negros Occidental — P1.291 billion; Cavite - P1.1520 billion; and Pangasinan — P1.140 billion.

The completion this year of the Infanta-Marikina Road (which President Arroyo funded with P1.9 billion upon representation of Governor Nantes) is expected lead to the industrialization of Quezon.

With the opening to traffic of the Infanta-Marikina Road, an International Container Port would be constructed in General Nakar, which is one hour and 20 minutes from Manila.

Total population rose to 236,390 persons

The total population of Lucena City as of August 1, 2007 was 236,390 persons, an increase of 40,315 persons over its total population of 196,075 persons in 2000. This 2007 figure translated to an annual population growth rate of 2.61 percent for the period 2000 to 2007. This was 0.49 percentage point higher than the 2.12 percent annual population growth rate recorded from 1995 to 2000.

Gulang-gulang was most populated barangay

Of this highly urbanized city's 33 barangays, Barangay Gulang-gulang (11.2 percent) was the most populated, followed by Ibabang Dupay (10.7 percent), and Ibabang Iyam (9.6 percent). Barangay 6-Poblacion (0.4 percent) was the least populated barangay.

Average household size was about 5 members

The number of households increased by 8,985 from 40,261 in 2000 to 49,246 in 2007. Household population likewise increased to 234,935 persons in 2007 from 195,248 persons in 2000. These figures resulted to an average household size of 4.8 persons in 2007, almost the same average household size (4.9 persons) recorded in 2000.

Sex ratio increased to 99 males per 100 females

Of the household population, females (50.2 percent) outnumbered their male counterparts (49.8 percent) for a sex ratio of 99 males for every 100 females. In 2000, the sex ratio was computed at 98 males per 100 females.

Median age remained at 21 years

The household population of Lucena City posted a median age of 21 years in 2007, which means that one half of the city?s household population was below 21 years old. This was the same as the median age recorded in 2000.

About one in every three persons (35.6 percent) were under 15 years old. The highest share was noted in age group under 5 years (12.4 percent), followed by age group 5-9 years (11.8 percent), and 10-14 years (11.5 percent). Males dominated the household population in age groups 0 to 14 years, 20-24 years, and 30-39 years while females outnumbered the males in the remaining age groups.

Proportion of female voters was higher

In 2007, the city?s voting-age population (18 years and over) accounted for 57.7 percent of the household population. This was slightly higher than the proportion of voting-age population (57.0 percent) registered in 2000. Moreover, the proportion of female voters (51.1 percent) was higher than that of the males (48.9 percent).

Overall dependency ratio declined to 64 per 100 working population

The proportion of young dependents (0 to 14 years) to household population was 35.6 percent, while the old dependents (65 years and over) posted a share of 3.4 percent. The working-age population (15 to 64 years), on the other hand, accounted for 61.0 percent of the household population.

The overall dependency ratio for Lucena City was 63.9, or about 64 dependents (58 young and 6 old dependents) for every 100 working-age population. The dependency ratio in 2007 was lower than the dependency ratio registered in 2000 which was 65.7 per 100 working-age population.

About 2 in every 5 persons were single

In 2007, about two fifths (44.4 percent) of the household population 10 years old and over were single, while 41.9 percent were married. Comparing these with the 2000 figures, a lower proportion of single persons (40.7 percent) and higher proportion of married persons (46.3 percent) were observed in 2000. The rest (13.7 percent) of the household population 10 years old and over were either widowed, divorced/separated, had common-law/live-in arrangement, or had unknown marital status.

Males dominated the single (52.6 percent of single persons) population 10 years old and over. The rest of the categories for marital status were dominated by females.

More females pursued higher education than males

Of the total household population five years old and over, 32.9 percent had attended or completed elementary education, 34.4 percent reached high school, 9.3 percent were college undergraduates, and 8.3 percent were academic degree holders. Majority of the academic degree holders (54.9 percent) and those with postbaccalaureate courses (55.7 percent) were females.

In 2007, 63.3 percent of the household population 5 to 24 years old attended school at anytime during School Year 2007 to 2008. Of these, there was an almost equal proportion of males (50.5 percent) and females (49.5 percent).

Five persons occupied each housing unit

The total occupied housing units in Lucena City numbered 47,602 in 2007. This translated to a ratio of 103 households for every 100 occupied housing units, or five persons per occupied housing unit. The same ratio was derived during the 2000 Census.

Proportion of occupied housing units with strong materials of roofs and outer walls increased

Most of the occupied housing units in the province in 2007 had outer walls made of concrete/brick/stone (44.2 percent), up by 8.3 percentage points from the proportion of the same type of housing units in 2000. Meanwhile, majority (84.4 percent) of the occupied housing units in 2007 had roofs made of galvanized iron/aluminum, indicating an increase of 4.6 percentage points from the 2000 figure.

Ang nasagap kong balita, yun daw tulay sa boundary ng Candelaria at Sn. Juan ay tapos nang i-rehab. Dati raw ang mga byaheng Lucena-Batangas ay sa Cabay Road dumadaan. Yung Cabay Road ay magsisimula sa boundary ng Candelaria-Tiaong at tatagos sa mismong bayan ng Sn. Juan (malapit sa munisipyo).

Sana matapos na rin ang Eco-Tourism road... pero sa pagkaka-alam ko aabutin pa ito ng 2 taon dahil "hulugan" (installment) ang pagpopondo dito... :)

^Tol, wala pa bang bumabyahe dito (kolorum)? Hindi na ba kayang punan ng mga bus ang dami ng mga pasahero sa ruta na ito? Baka pansamantala lang din ito kaya dapat wag nang humingi ng prankisa sapagkat kung sakaling mabuhay na muli ang PNR sa nalalapit na panahon, mababawasan o tuluyang mawawala na rin ang pangangailangan sa mga van na ito.

Para sa inyo pong kaalaman, isa po sa pinag-uusapan ngayun sa railways thread ay ang kalagayan ng Quezon/Lucena railways. Dahil po dito, isa po sa mga forumer (alcogoodwin) ay nais malaman kung meron po ba tayong pwedeng maabot na grupo (pribado o pampublikong sektor) upang makilahok sa mga adhikaing kaugnay sa Philippine railways.

LUCENA CITY — The proponents of the division of Quezon into two provinces, to be called Quezon del Sur and Quezon del Norte, have yet not totally abandoned their proposal. Rep. Erin Tañada (4th district, Quezon), who is reportedly eyeing a seat in the Senate in the 2010 elections said that if he is elected as a legislator, he would surely re-file the bill calling for the creation of the two provinces.

Tañada, who is now undertaking some activities such as sports promotion for the youth of Quezon together with Rep. Danilo Suarez and his son Jayjay, former vice governor of Quezon and incumbent assistant secretary of the Department of Natural Resources (DENR), said the Dec. 13, 2008 plebiscite during which the people of Quezon rejected the division of Quezon was a failure because the people were not fully informed of the advantages of the Quezon split move.

Dito sa Saudi, na try ko na mag tren... from Dammam to Riyadh. Para sa akin, mas maginhawang sumakay sa tren, kesa sa bus. Kasi nong pumunta ako ng dammam by bus, ang sikip at iba-ibang lahi kasama mo, eh sa tren, mas maaliwalas, makakapili ka rin ng seat mo, kung economy o VIP, 10SR lang naman difference ng economy sa VIP, kaya nag VIP ako..hehehehe

May grupo sa Pilipinas na tinaguriang RIHSPI (http://www.rihspi.org/) at isa sa kanilang layunin ay ang preserbasyon ng ating mga "yamang-nakaraan" (historical wealth). Ako mismo ay hindi miyembro ng nasabing samahan sa kadahilanang nasa malayo rin akong lugar gaya nyo. Ang panawagan ay ginawa upang maipaabot sa inyo, na sakaling may alam kayong grupo o mga indibidwal sa ating bayan na maaaring maki-bahagi sa mga gawain ng RIHSPI. Ito ay upang makatulong sila, sa pagmumulat ng kamalayan sa ating mga kababayan, at lalo na sa preserbasyon ng PNR-Lucena at iba pang mga pasilidad na may magandang nakaraan.
