Woah cool. I study at the University of Toronto. Which department are you doing research for?

I'd love to tell you, but I can't ha ha. It's a too-small department with very few research associates. It would be too easy for everyone to know who I am! Then, the paparazzi, the scooter chase in the tunnels, etc. Danger.. danger..

Hmm.. Let me take a guess about your field of study.... Are you in engineering-science..?

Are you staying on residence?

I'm not staying on residence, I live on my own just near the domed stadium. I like my flat, but the 'hood needs a bit of work.

euh no... If so, I'd be a terrible researcher uh uh..

I thought you were in en-sci because you mention on your SSC profile you're a rocket scientist LOL... But I guess this was not meant litterally. Anyhow political science sounds good! ;)

Outdoor seating ... can be found in ... the tsukiji market

I saw an article in the news the other day that they are trying to discourage too many visitors to Tsukiji (silly tourists intefering with the fish and stuff like that) so they are trying to get rid of the outdoor seating to make it less hospitable...

Now a few pictures of the Yanaka-ginza neighborhood. Many shopping districts in Japan are named Ginza - in reference to the famous Ginza shopping district in Chuo-ku. Yanaka Ginza can be reached through the Nippori station on the JR yamanote line.

Depends on the new design. 15th/16th century design with 21st/"22nd" century technology would be good.

Great photos, princeofseoul!!
I love your pictures. Those photos in this thread are really candid, common, and natural scenes of ordinary people and lives of Tokyo, compared to "cool" artificial photos of posh Ginza, Omote-sando or Westerner's favorite districts.

Very good thread which is showing the real natural lives of Tokyo!

The JR Chuo line on the right. Many Tokyoites generally ride a bicycle to get to the station instead of taking a bus. Faster, cheaper, and more pleasant as well considering the nice weather in Tokyo. Awesome thread!
I'd love to hear what are your favorite Tokyo neighborhoods and why. I've been to Tokyo twice for two week each time and I haven't even finished seeing the sights. I thought the the ranking of the desirable neighbourhoods was very interesting. I've never been to Jiyugaoka!

Probably my favorite neighbourhood (of the ones I've seen, anyway) is Daikanyama. Loved the tons of small, unique stores, the relaxed atmosphere and the cafés! By the way, i though Nakameguro was not that great. Maybe I missed the nice parts of it?

My favourite residential areas are Yoga, Futako Tamagawa and Tama Plaza, if only because they are quiet neighborhoods as well as being express stops on the Tokyu Denentoshi line. I like the Denentoshi because you can go to Omotesando without transfer. Very nice :).

Aoyama is another good spot to live, but it's a bit too busy and too close to Roppongi.

^ I was in Osaka in 2001 for a few days. I went in a bar-restaurant and was asked whether we wanted seats at the bar or at a table. We chose the table. They charged 2500 yens -- without prior warning -- for the "table fee" on top of the food. Weird. :uh: I never experienced this in Tokyo.
