View Full Version : Looking for game where you drive on motorways
radi6404 February 14th, 2008, 08:09 PM I am looking for a realistic car simulation on which you travel on motorways if possible and where you see roads in different conditions, roadworks etc, would be great if such a thing exitsts, does someone know anythng? The best thing would be if it contains an eitor where you can build maps, I would program the Struma motorway with the E-79 til Dupnica and only race on this track.
wyqtor February 14th, 2008, 08:51 PM Yeah, I know of some train simulators, but motorway sims... it seems there just aren't any. I would be interested too, if someone found a game/simulation like Radi is describing.
RawLee February 14th, 2008, 08:52 PM GTA:San Andreas.
BND February 14th, 2008, 08:57 PM I've played with the game "Alarm für Cobra 11 - Nitro", and you have to drive a lot on motorways (like in the TV series). The game itself is not too realistic, but it really gives back "ze Deutsche Autobahn" feeling. I've heared the game has a newer version, but I haven't palyed with it yet.
radi6404 February 14th, 2008, 09:02 PM The games you guys mentioned arenīt very realistic and rather cheap productions. I am looking for something realistic, and by the way, the Need for speed series arenīt too realistic either and way too Hiphop
BND February 14th, 2008, 09:14 PM ^^ The Cobra11 game has the most realistic highway I've seen in a game. It has real intersections and resting places. The cars suck though.

Do they have middle crashbarriers or are they as shitty as in the need for speed series? I would love soemthing even where you see roadconstruction signs or such and where you feel difference in driving reaction on old / new asphalt.
BND February 14th, 2008, 10:06 PM ^^ Yes they have, you cannot cross them without smashing the car
radi6404 February 14th, 2008, 10:20 PM Aktually the graphics donīt even look so bad
http://www.zivilstreife.de/wp-content/uploads/Cobra11_1.jpg
Thatīs in game, the road looks very nice and wide, maybe Iīll give it a try.
BND February 14th, 2008, 10:29 PM This is how the Autobahn looks in the game:

radi6404 February 14th, 2008, 10:37 PM Ok, here it doesnīt look too good.
Mateusz February 14th, 2008, 11:51 PM Test Drive Unlimited :) But it's a bit exotic area ;)
x-type February 15th, 2008, 12:15 AM NFS Porsche Unleashed has an autobahn track ;)
pmaciej7 February 15th, 2008, 12:26 AM These crashbarriers don't look too shiny... :dunno: :ohno:
Mateusz February 15th, 2008, 12:51 AM It is obvious because it is not Struma motorway :D
radi6404 February 15th, 2008, 12:55 AM If I had serious money I would say to some game developers dealing with racing games that they should make one track of the Struma motorway and E-79 in snowy winterlandscape, it would be too awesome.
TheCat February 15th, 2008, 03:54 AM I thought about recommending some stuff, but when you mentioned "racing", it defeats the purpose :) No racing game will really give you the feel of real driving, and the only genre really missing from the PC today is that of simulation of real driving where you have to follow all the traffic rules. The motorway is probably the least fun part of such a game though, because it doesn't involve "doing" much :)
With that said, if you would like to try an "educational driving simulator" where you follow the rules of traffic in Europe, but with pretty bad graphics, I recommend this:
http://www.3d-fahrschule.de/uk_index.htm
I have it, and enjoy it sometimes when I'm really bored :) But I really like any type of simulators, especially flight ones (MS Flight Sim). You also have the autobahn here, and some left-side driving in London.
MateoW mentioned Test Drive Unlimited. It's an awesome game because it's one of few computer games that feature a fully manual transmission with a clutch, which is kind of fun to play with, even though it's limited if you don't have pedals and a shifter (I just assigned a key to the clutch :)).
But yeah, bottom line is that large and high quality driving simulators for real life driving (where you follow the rules and details such as traffic signs, lights, markings, etc. are emphasized) do not really exist, and can be found only on expensive driver education equipment.
I once thought about developing something like this on my own, or with a couple of friends, but currently I don't have the time for such things. Maybe in the future :)
sonysnob February 15th, 2008, 05:02 AM Really? Urban freeways are my favourite to drive. The QEW and 427 between Dorvall and the 401 is the best. Particualy at night. I will be really sad when the 427 finally gets 401-ized
ChrisZwolle February 15th, 2008, 08:36 AM There are some truck simulations though, where you can drive half of the US Interstates. But it's quite old though.

I was talking about driving simulators :) Unless you have a simulator whre you can drive on the 427 - I'd be happy to get it :)
There are some truck simulations though, where you can drive half of the US Interstates. But it's quite old though.
Yeah you're right, I forgot to mention these, since I actually have several of them as well. The series is called 18 Wheels of Steel.
sonysnob February 15th, 2008, 07:18 PM ^ I was just saying that a freeway in a driving simulator would be pretty entertaining as well

I have downloaded this game and it is very nice, even with crappy graphics it gives loads of fun :) Only demo version :( I'm thinking about buying full version :D Unless you have crack or something guys

:shifty:
I once made a Fraps video of me driving through most roads in that game, maybe I should post it on Youtube as a preview :)
Mateusz February 16th, 2008, 11:53 PM Oh well, I bought full version for download :D I hope it will be improved with time, bigger and more complex maps ;)
Kame February 17th, 2008, 12:13 AM Here we go:

Mateusz February 17th, 2008, 11:07 AM Tracks could be longer :) I played it much since yesterday but I'm free riding instead of following the rules :D
radi6404 February 17th, 2008, 03:02 PM Tracks could be longer :) I played it much since yesterday but I'm free riding instead of following the rules :D
I donīt like short tracks. Does the game have free run or free ride? The graphics dinīt look too bad.
Mateusz February 17th, 2008, 04:33 PM You have to follow the traffic rules ;)
TheCat February 17th, 2008, 06:33 PM I donīt like short tracks. Does the game have free run or free ride? The graphics dinīt look too bad.
There is a free ride, yes, but traffic rules still apply, even though you can choose not to follow them. The only traffic rule you must always follow is never to go the wrong way. If you do, you will be stopped immediately.

How many km of road does it have?
timmy- brissy February 17th, 2008, 07:44 PM probaly when gta4 comes it will pretty good.
Lydon February 17th, 2008, 07:59 PM Most definitely Test Drive Unlimited...but it's set in Hawaii lol.
Mateusz February 17th, 2008, 08:44 PM probaly when gta4 comes it will pretty good.
But GTA IV will be limited to city area :ohno:
radi6404 February 17th, 2008, 11:13 PM But GTA IV will be limited to city area :ohno:
Cause of the awful rap fashion the game companies only produce such kind of car games. It didnīt sue to be like that, old Need for speed games where apsolutely awesome for their time, wtih great mountain tracks with great roads and so on but now everything si with city, tuning, illegal races and so on, apsoltuely stupid and awful.
wyqtor February 17th, 2008, 11:25 PM ^^Yeah, I remember playing the mountain stages in NFS I and III over and over again... What great times were those!
I am thinking... maybe Google Earth is the answer. Maybe in the future it will include a lot more detail, 3D objects & buildings, etc, so we could visit/drive across the world from our own computers.
I know, I'm just dreaming right now... they don't even show Struma in hi-res at this moment :bash: !
Verso February 17th, 2008, 11:28 PM ^ They don't have Struma at all.

Thatīs teh apsolutely biggest shame the best motorway in bulgaria is uncovered but all areas arround it are in high res. What a shame.
TheCat February 18th, 2008, 01:15 AM How many km of road does it have?
Not many at all. It is purely about the educational concept. I guess I will post that video I made, where I drive through all the cities in that game and come back to the exact parking spot I start at. The video is timelapsed of course. But I need to find the time, as I have a lot of work from university.

Well actually the urban scenes in GTA are not bad. GTA San Andreas actually has a very large motorway system that is pretty fun to drive on, and even includes some sections in a semi-forest area with tunnels.
However, I wish it were possible to somehow reprogram the behaviour of the AI drivers. They are programmed to make your life difficult as a driver, so they do such things like always turning right from the left lane, ram into you when you slow down or stop at a red light on a high speed road, and change lanes right into you when you are driving exactly beside them
Also some of the lane markings in that game make no sense, like yellow to separate lanes going into the same direction (since the convention defies the standards in North America), etc. This kind of detail is of course not important to players of the game, and is only important to roadgeeks like us I guess :)
But all in all it's a pretty cool game to play even just for driving.
Patrick February 18th, 2008, 01:32 AM on the english google maps site, you can "ride" through the cities of 5 american cities, photowise of course, but it is not bad when you have a fast internet conection so that the pictures load immediately.

I prefer bypass of San Fierro :D It could be upgraded to 3 lanes in each direction  The real crap is highway from Los Santos to San Fierro
Patrick February 18th, 2008, 01:34 AM I love riding the Las Venturas Ring Road :D or that highway connecting Los Santos and Las Venturas with that sloping (cobblestoned?) median ;)
Mateusz February 18th, 2008, 01:38 AM I love riding the Las Venturas Ring Road :D
It's really good actually :) I think roads in Los Santos sucks, however the landscape is most intresting and different there :D They could invest in some kind of median, sometimes this road is really dangerous. :D
Verso February 18th, 2008, 05:34 PM I have driving license and drive a real car. :D
ChrisZwolle February 18th, 2008, 05:36 PM Yeah the real deal is much better :D
TheCat February 18th, 2008, 05:42 PM Hehe I think most of us on this forum have a driver's license, but such simulators are also fun to play, especially when you can simulate roads very unlike your own region. You guys in Europe have a slight advantage because you can go to many countries with differing roads, but in North America it's all pretty much the same :) And also this stupid winter there's a winter storm almost every 2-3 days.
Verso February 18th, 2008, 06:04 PM ^ In North America roads also differ greatly. Even in Toronto you can find everything, from 18-lane freeway and wide roads to gravel and muddy paths. :D
TheCat February 18th, 2008, 06:15 PM ^^ Well I'm mostly referring to traffic rules :)
I doubt you can find gravel roads in Toronto though lol
Nexis February 18th, 2008, 08:09 PM Where can you get Cobra 11? it seems like a cool game!
Mateusz February 18th, 2008, 11:39 PM I have downloaded demo but it failed to install :(
Deus Ex June 3rd, 2008, 08:29 PM It's really good actually :) I think roads in Los Santos sucks, however the landscape is most intresting and different there :D They could invest in some kind of median, sometimes this road is really dangerous. :D
^^The Los Santos Elevated Hiway(the one from airport to the interchange) is pretty cool and look real. San Andreas is a very good driving simulater, when you use the camhack(Allows you to view from inside of the car) it look very real.
But still, Los Santos Elevated Hi-way is no match for Fierro Elevated Hiway.lol

SRB June 5th, 2008, 08:46 PM hey this 18 wheel is great!:).is this some older game or new,i tried demo and im looking forward to have it:cheers:

Mateusz June 9th, 2008, 10:06 PM GTA is annoying because there are no wider roads than 2+2 :D
radi6404 June 9th, 2008, 10:46 PM GTA is annoying because there are no wider roads than 2+2 :D
Not because of that but because it has crappy graphics.
TheCat June 11th, 2008, 07:09 AM ^^ The annoying part are the AI drivers.
Mateusz June 12th, 2008, 11:51 PM Collisions are quite realistic :D I like them
timmy- brissy June 13th, 2008, 12:34 AM Yeah gta 4 has 2+2 but the driving is realistic and also the realism from other drivers is the best ive seen.it's not as big as gta sandreas but maybe DLC (xbox 360) might have something to do with that?
RipleyLV June 13th, 2008, 09:31 AM edit
RipleyLV June 13th, 2008, 10:01 AM In Need for Speed ProStreet you can drive on the Autobahn, or on the Ebisu Circuit in Japan. :)
BldgFreak June 13th, 2008, 07:16 PM I may be able to help with this one. There is a game called rig n' roll being produce by a european software company. Go to www.rignroll.com
The game is not yet released but it looks amazing. They have fully detailed all of the state of california on detail. All bridges (San fran bay bridge looks cool), freeways, interchanges and cities are all done to almost 1:1 scale detail. You can drive through the sierras and pick any highway. I've played other games like wheels of steel etc and they sucked! This is supposed to be state of the art in terms of graphics and detail. Check out the site! There are some incredible web shots of the game. As for the release date I'm thinking later on in 2008 sometime. You can even check out videos of it on youtube.
keber June 14th, 2008, 03:49 PM of the state of california on detail. All bridges (San fran bay bridge looks cool), freeways, interchanges and cities are all done to almost 1:1 scale detail.
Actually it says, that area is pretty compressed, about 20 times, driving through whole California in just 2 hours.

x-type June 19th, 2008, 05:14 PM he he, i allways tried to come from Los Santos to San Fierro without accident, but it was impossible :D
TheCat June 20th, 2008, 12:51 AM ^^ I know! It's actually something I like to do when I am extremely bored to relax. I grab a cool car that I have stored in the garage at that gas station location, and go once around all of SA on the highways (well, the "ring" has some interruptions, but I remember the route by heart now). The main goal for me is to drive as fast as I can without causing many accidents, and only using the one car I start with :) It's quite a lot of fun, takes like 15 minutes or so.
But it's so hard with those damn AI drivers, who are programmed to change lanes exactly when you are beside them, or always turn right from the left lane (they actually change to the left lane before turning right ).
Sponsor June 20th, 2008, 01:03 AM I can recommend you Test Drive Unlimited which took place on Oahu Island (Hawaii). You need about 2-3 hours to drive around the island obeying traffic rules (it's almost 200 km). There are motorways and also regular roads.
TheCat June 20th, 2008, 01:13 AM ^^ I love Test Drive Unlimited, mostly because it has a manual transmission with a clutch :)
WA June 21st, 2008, 01:43 AM Is Rig N Roll released?
WA July 16th, 2008, 08:57 PM sorry tried to delete
WA July 16th, 2008, 09:01 PM I found one for XBOX 360, Midnight Club: Los Angeles. Its release as of now if Oct. 7 in North America, Oct. 10 Europe. heres some pics

Mateusz July 16th, 2008, 09:18 PM It has arcade character ;) I prefer more simulations
WA July 17th, 2008, 12:48 AM Ok ^^
DJZG July 18th, 2008, 08:16 AM i love playing 18WOS: Pedal to the medal...
everybody say i'm crazy and game after going through few highways starts to be boring, i don't think like that :D
i just put some music on winamp, and spend few hours just driving USA with trucks :D
and there are few Bus simulations... like Bus Driver... there aren't highways, just city and simulating driving a public bus :)
i loved GTA series too cause of driving.... but somehow GTA4 has become too difficult to drive without having accidents even though you drive really carefully and with obeying traffic rules...
radi6404 July 18th, 2008, 01:56 PM It doesnīt matter to me whether it is arcade or simulation, I just want the best graphics possible, because thatīs what make a game real.
Mateusz July 18th, 2008, 02:18 PM :lol:i love playing 18WOS: Pedal to the medal...

Bus Driver is just average :ohno: There is a newer bus simulator but I forgot what it's called... and there is Euro Truck simulator in production :)
Junkie July 19th, 2008, 07:06 PM Well get 11 Wheels of Steel: 'Haulin
Its a truck game but you run on a highway for sure.
DJZG July 19th, 2008, 07:40 PM
Bus Driver is just average :ohno: There is newer bussimulator but I forgot what name of it is... and there is Euro Truck simulator in production :)
my point too... i was living my childhood waiting for a bus simulation game, and then they come up with bus driver... it was just dissapointing...
and that other game you were talking about is called Bus Simulator  i played it, lots of bugs... they released it unfinished... but it is better than Bus Driver, has many improvements, but i'm waiting for some updates to fix some major graphic glitches and other stuff...
and yes, i'm waiting for that Euro Truck for years  do you know what is progress on that?
Mateusz July 19th, 2008, 08:51 PM I don't know about the progress :) But at least it will be in Europe, not like in Hard Truck
Mateusz October 25th, 2008, 10:07 PM Let's refresh this thread
There is new game coming which will be amazing :) Well, for maniacs of realistic driving and simulation of real traffic :) This game is call 'Carrier' and action will take place in Moscow ! Work on this game is in progress :) I will get it just when it will be out. I hope it will be availible not only in Russia
Check this out :)
e2jJy6pdlSw
ChrisZwolle October 25th, 2008, 10:13 PM It says:
Realistic Auto simulator at the end :) Looks good
Mateusz October 25th, 2008, 10:22 PM I think it will fill the big gap on games market, there is not much of such simulations :) It will be bit like LFS mixed with GTA :D
Verso October 25th, 2008, 10:31 PM MKAD! :D Those ladas and driving (non)culture are hilarious.
ChrisZwolle October 25th, 2008, 10:33 PM Remember Midtown Madness? To bad they didn't continue with that serie.
Mateusz October 25th, 2008, 10:44 PM That was really nice one :) I always liked size of GTA SA map but driving mode is really annoying sometimes, even Mafia is better than that :)
I'm woundering what crash model will be like in Carrier (Transporter?)
PLH October 25th, 2008, 10:54 PM ^^ Any demo?
Mateusz October 25th, 2008, 11:01 PM Official web site has only some images and these trailers which you can see on You Tube... however there is a movie whoing how someone plays it... But web site says work is in progress
DJZG October 25th, 2008, 11:33 PM  i've tried Euro Truck Simulator :D
first day impression i like it...
second day i found some minor regards but nothing that serious...
map isn't detailed as 18WoH, there are few larger cities... then there isn't UK, Denmark, no Sweden, Norway, Slovenia, Croatia, and all other eastern countries except Poland...
graphic is awesome... i run it at 1680x1050 and without problems...
gameplay is pretty balanced and IMO realistic for one truck simulation... shame i don't have steering wheel cause this would be an awesome ride :)
there are lots of varieties of trucks but at beginning there isn't much money for shopping so i started with some below average truck...
i made some screenshots from my game to show you :)

DJZG October 26th, 2008, 12:37 AM Area where you can drive is quite modest really...
yep... you see a little map on right top corner... every city looks like a exit from highway with two three streets and few traffic lights...
actually game concept isn't based at city transport but at interstate driving and game does offer joy to fans of trucks and highways :)
Mateusz October 26th, 2008, 12:55 AM I hope this game will be modded like 18 WOS Haulin, where some polish enthusiasts made a polish map for it, current version 0.7 covers whole country and some foreign areas like Prague or Berlin :)
RipleyLV October 26th, 2008, 09:38 AM Check out this new NFS Undercover world map, you can see, that in this game there will be more highways than in previos series:

Mateusz October 30th, 2008, 02:56 PM I have bought 'Crash Time', game based on 'Alarm fur Cobra 11' TV series. It's nice game but still bit too arcade :( You drive 160-180 km/h in your Mercedes coupe and yoiu have difficulties to catch a van which runs away :(
Timon91 October 30th, 2008, 06:17 PM a few more pictures from Euro Truck:

I guess it wouldn't be fun if it would take 20 hours or so. Graphics look good! I've thought about buying such a game but I'm afraid that my computer won't be able to handle it :ohno:
radi6404 October 30th, 2008, 06:30 PM The graphics of the track simulator are very poor. Racedrivergrid has very good graphics but it has only racing tracks.
kajetanek October 30th, 2008, 11:10 PM hey, i have alarm fur cobra 11: nitro and it only races and carrier?
are there a freeride cuz i want to be free and driving in autobahn ;-D
Verso October 30th, 2008, 11:22 PM I guess it wouldn't be fun if it would take 20 hours or so.
Maybe, but how can you get from Rome to Warsaw in just 20 min, when your speed is normal? How does that work out, where do you actually drive? I also don't like those signs by Rome. Why are there Vienna and Munich on them, when in reality they aren't? It should be like in real world, or if you can't make it exactly like that, at least don't write cities you know aren't on signs; or is that one of the peculiarities of the game, and you can't really drive to Florence, but only to Vienna and Munich; I don't know how else you could be from Rome to Warsaw in just 20 min.
Timon91 October 30th, 2008, 11:45 PM I have a game called A2 racer (an old dutch computer game) and I have the version with Germany on it. In one race, you drive from Munich to Vienna in just a few minutes. I'm afraid I cannot tell where exactly you drive, because this game doesn't work on my computer anymore for some reason. In another version of A2 racer, just in the Netherlands, you drive from Utrecht to Amsterdam in less then a minute. Immediately after you've left knooppunt Ouderijn, you see Hotel Breukelen on your right hand, and just seconds later you pass a windmill, followed by the Amsterdam Arena. I think they just pick some landmarks to make it look real, but to reduce the travelling time a little. IMO this works out quite well.
Verso October 30th, 2008, 11:46 PM A little. :D Ok, I see now, thanks. :)
DJZG October 31st, 2008, 12:27 AM Maybe, but how can you get from Rome to Warsaw in just 20 min, when your speed is normal? How does that work out, where do you actually drive? yep... i'm pissed at that too...
that was the case with 18 WoS series... only major cities were in game...
i mean, gameplay of Euro Truck is a pretty good simulation of driving on highways, but hey, it's 21st century... and game weighs only 300Mbs... they should have made it huge and place it on DVDs... that would be awesome...
but i guess no one really wants to lose time driving around and delivering cargo to make only virtual money ;)
ChrisZwolle October 31st, 2008, 09:47 AM I want to drive in Google Earth. Wouldn't that be possible somewhere over time?
DJZG October 31st, 2008, 11:26 AM ^^ there is a flying option in GE... but that's not the same...
although it's not hard to make a game and use renders from GoogleEarth... basic ground is there, you just need to add 3D buildings to it...
it's a good idea :) someone will make that i'm sure ;)

Railway simulators have real distances and pretty much real scenery. Maybe someone will do road simulator someday.

Timon91 October 31st, 2008, 07:18 PM Railway simulators have real distances and pretty much real scenery. Maybe someone will do road simulator someday.
I have the Railroad Simulator 2006. It is quite realistic, but some things didn't work on my computer, so I couldn't really play it well.
keber October 31st, 2008, 07:28 PM Actually Microsoft Train Simulator, although over 7 years old, is much more realistic than any version of Railroad Simulator, regarding railway operations. Even I made some routes, based on real life railways.
Mateusz October 31st, 2008, 08:15 PM There was planned Railroad Simulator 2 but it got cancelled :( There is out new simulaton of trains from EA, it must good game
DJZG October 31st, 2008, 08:52 PM ^^ there is MSRS 2 in process, i've read it somewhere... could be it is coming out this year or start of next year...
IMO i like Trainz Simulator more... don't know why... it is basically the same, i think i just hate Microsoft :D
keber October 31st, 2008, 09:02 PM EA Rail Simulator is very good game (I own it myself), graphics are pretty good, but it is quite oriented to UK market, although various addons free and payware cover other parts of the world too

DJZG December 6th, 2008, 06:53 PM i've tried 18 wheels of steal: american long haul...
i played it only for a while, but seems a nice game... much more highways than in other 18wos games, and lots of traffic, intersections and new cities are added...
i'll post some pictures when i have time...
if anyone wants a copy feel free to pm me ;)
Sponsor December 6th, 2008, 07:17 PM For the moment the best solution to enjoy virtual driving is to get the Euro Truck Simulator and download some map, trucks and play with wheel absolutely. Using keyboard is imo - stupid and unrealistic at all.
Check out PL map:
cVoueQ0R8W8
IFumAwsa-Oo
If you want to play on original map then get 18 Wheels of Steel: Pedal to the Metal <---- the best original 18Wos imo.
Mateusz December 7th, 2008, 02:26 PM Hard Trucks with polish map are just best ! :)
Bahnsteig4 December 7th, 2008, 04:47 PM Looks like an interesting game but I'm reluctant to buy it until I find out how many freeware add-ons there are for it. Any ideas?
Mateusz December 7th, 2008, 04:54 PM Actually there is quite big community on forum of polish distributor of this game (TopWare)
DJZG December 8th, 2008, 12:17 PM wait... you are saying there are maps for EUROTruck simulator? i searched few weeks ago but i didn't find any... and do they integrate those maps on current one or it is replaced completely by a new one?
cristof December 8th, 2008, 05:55 PM gta san andreas is nice cause u have a lot of higways which link three cities...gta 4 maybe but i dont have try it yet
Mateusz December 8th, 2008, 07:44 PM Well, what frustrates me in GTA is that there is no wider road than 2X2...
cristof December 9th, 2008, 05:34 PM that's true
DJZG December 10th, 2008, 12:42 AM ^^ but again... GTA is a different game-style... it wasn't meant to be driving simulator...
i find GTA4 amazing game... now that it came on PC even more :D graphics is just stunning, and size of the city as well as amount of highways is huge and i like that... if we disregard other gameplay stuff like killing, drive-by shooting, livin' life on the other side etc :D

Danielk2 December 19th, 2009, 02:50 PM If they improved Street View, you just might be able to do so.
Right now, you can only travel 100m at a time on Streetview. If they changed it, you could be able to set a certain distance you'd like to travel. All they need is video cameras on the Street View cars.

Timon91 December 20th, 2009, 09:32 AM Looks good! Does anybody here know what part of Germany is covered?
RipleyLV December 20th, 2009, 10:24 AM Last screens look good. What are the system requirements?
ssh December 20th, 2009, 02:02 PM Although there is only one motorway in this game (a hypothetical freeway called I-88) and it's hardly the style of cruising you might want, I still recommend checking out Burnout Paradise.
http://www.burnoutaholics.com/files/burnoutparadise/gameguide/sj/jump1.jpg
Of course, there are various obsticles and construction going on...
The game's street name system splits the I-88 in four parts. Exit ramps are shown as well.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMxrm4pcnT4 (watch in HQ)
There are dozens of other 2+2 roads complete with tunnels, bridges and other nice infrastructural stuff. There's even power parking in the game. :D I'm not sure about the system requirements, but my 2.4ghz MacBook w/ Nvidia 9400m built-in chipset runs the game at a very playable level.
Nexis December 20th, 2009, 04:50 PM I have beaten Burnout Paradise , must say its unique. But not as great as Burnout 3 & Revenge.
I don't have Specific yet on German Truck Sim yet, but i'm sure they publish it soon.

Ni3lS January 10th, 2010, 08:05 AM So do you get to drive on every single road in Germany? Is everything of Germany in there? That would make it sick. I've been dreaming about games like this too.
ChrisZwolle January 10th, 2010, 10:07 AM lol @ "schnelligkeit", did they use Google Translate? The right word for "speed" is Geschwindigkeit in German.

You get to drive a tiny bit of the german road network. It would take decades to drive around in all of Germany taking pics of roads, and create them in a game. Many of those road signs are also fake. At many interchanges, no motorway numbers are signed. IRL, they are signed. The roads in German Truck sim is fake roads connecting real control cities

"Entfernung" is even more strange.

Lol? So if for example the city Cologne is not on there you can just draw it on there? And it makes the real highway for you? Also, I don't see that much urban area's in those video's. It's all landscape, kinda lame too..
wyqtor January 11th, 2010, 12:27 PM Looks cool, will be fun to play (at least until you explore the entire map)... Hopefully in the next years Google cracks the problem of generating 3D landscapes from 2D pictures. It's really frustrating to see all those discontinuous pictures in Street View when there are gorgeous 3D worlds like the island from Crysis. Hell, even if they managed to get a 3D street view with the detail of World of Warcraft I would be happy.

Very true, but I donīt believe at all that google will generate 3d landscape soon, because almost all people are happy and noone complains or requests 3d landscapes. Unfortunately most people are happy with things that are available and would not request anything more.
Nexis January 12th, 2010, 08:44 PM The Map is expandable & I think you can use Google 3D tools to create new Truck models and New City buildings and then i beleave like the pervous versions put them in the Game via the Map Editor.

10-30mins depending on how realistic you want to be , obeying all the traffic laws and other stuff, is about 30mins. You can also edit this map and make it as realistic large as you want. Ive seen huge maps in the pervous games where it would take you up to 3hrs to do the longest journey. Your Computer is the limit in this game.

shpirtkosova February 19th, 2010, 02:38 AM I tried the german simulator but it seems to be going slow. I have the latest computer with 4gb ram, over 600gb of hdd and 4X2.5 duo core processor, what is the problem?

My Video card is this i think...
GeoForce 7100/nForce 630i

Easy. :)
RipleyLV February 24th, 2010, 08:00 PM My Video card is this i think...
GeoForce 7100
Could be your video card fault, but I'm not sure though. German Truck Sim. graphics may look crappy, but to play it smooth you need atleast a 8 series Nvidia card. Try lowering your game graphic settings, or update to latest driver.
nForce 630i
That's your motherboard. :)
shpirtkosova February 25th, 2010, 12:43 AM Another problem I have with these German and UK Truck simulators is that they are slightly unrealistic, I feel that only the signage is realistic in these games... The horizontal lines and pedestrian paths are misrepresentative. For example on the UK Truck Simulator, there are no double yellow lines or single yellow lines with parking signage, They are all represented with white lines which ofcourse only exist on national roads in the UK.
Nexis March 3rd, 2010, 10:37 PM ^^^^ There is already 6 Realistic add-on packs avaliabe and a Map Extension adding another 40 cities in the works. The German Map , looks like someone is already expanding it outside of Germany.

Fargo Wolf April 29th, 2010, 01:24 AM  i've tried Euro Truck Simulator :D
first day impression i like it...
second day i found some minor regards but nothing that serious...
map isn't detailed as 18WoH, there are few larger cities... then there isn't UK, Denmark, no Sweden, Norway, Slovenia, Croatia, and all other eastern countries except Poland...
graphic is awesome... i run it at 1680x1050 and without problems...
gameplay is pretty balanced and IMO realistic for one truck simulation... shame i don't have steering wheel cause this would be an awesome ride :)
there are lots of varieties of trucks but at beginning there isn't much money for shopping so i started with some below average truck...
i made some screenshots from my game to show you :)
Praha (anyone recognizes the building?)

one pic straight forward, nice and detailed driving board...
http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/1980/ets00003ai0.png
mouse moves view almost 180 degrees left to right, i'm alone in cabin :ohno:...
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/2452/ets00005ya6.png
7 or 8 cameras are here to show every corner of surroundings... here's one view showing front side of my truck...
http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/715/ets00006jx3.png
not sure if it worth buying, maybe just for hard core truck fans...
others can find game pretty boring and long lasting (PM me for free game)
i'm somewhere in between so i'll keep on playing till i explore everything ingame... :)
I'm also interested in this game. Is there a website for it, and how often is it updated (Expansion packs)? Do you play it online (I'd prefer that)? How realistic is it in terms of roadworks, tunnels, ferries and time it takes to get from your starting point, to your destination. What are the system requirements?

There are only patches , but you can download expansion packs like trucks , cars , props , maps. Or you can make your own if your good at it. There is a map editor , as long as you have enough space on your PC , you can make a huge map. I use this site to get my updates and you can find links to Downloads here.

Nima-Farid October 16th, 2010, 11:36 PM I wrote this because you can drive in your own city's streets.

RipleyLV November 2nd, 2011, 10:22 PM As some of you may heard that Grand Theft Auto V was announced on 25th of October. A debut trailer was officially released today few hours ago.
Click here to watch, if you haven't seen it: http://www.rockstargames.com/
Briefly: As we saw in the trailer the location is indeed San Andreas state (based on California), one city has been confirmed - it's Los Santos (based on Los Angeles), whether there be other cities like Las Venturas (Las Vegas) and San Fierro (San Francisco) like in the original San Andreas, no information has been released so far. In my opinion and experience taken from previous GTA titles and especially GTA IV, it's more likely we'll see a very detailed version of Los Santos city (like Liberty City in GTA IV) with even bigger countryside than the city itself. I highly doubt that there could be all 3 cities with this huge anmount of detail in one game, if so, then IDK which resources you must have to run this game atleast on PC and how many of GB memory it could take. Running GTA IV smooth on PC is already a challenge.
We all know that LA is famous for it's freeway system and fancy interchanges, and the most important is that all of that will take part in the game as it was seen in the trailer. Since Rockstar is moving GTA franchise to realism, it's very possible that freeways may play a big role in the game. Freeways in LA are like arteries that keeps the city on going, traffic jams, crashes, smog effects, they all may appear in the game, actually smog was already seen in the trailer. What I'm trying to say is, that GTA V might be the closest yet simulation version of real life Los Angeles.
1. These are screens from the trailer. As you see, for the first time in GTA histry we'll be able to drive on a freeway with more than 4-lanes. :D Interstate 5 / Los Puerta Fwy (based on Santa Ana Fwy).
http://i350.photobucket.com/albums/q420/Ripley9895/gtav1.jpg
2. For the first time trucks will actually carry trailers. I-2 (on the background sign) could be based on I-110 running through downtown Los Angeles.
http://i350.photobucket.com/albums/q420/Ripley9895/gtav2.jpg
3. Possible I-2 (I-110) running through downtown Los Santos.
http://i350.photobucket.com/albums/q420/Ripley9895/gtav4.jpg
4. It's possible that accindents on freeways may happen.
http://i350.photobucket.com/albums/q420/Ripley9895/gtav3.jpg
What do you guys think? :)
DanielFigFoz November 3rd, 2011, 12:10 AM The signs are much more realistic now too
RipleyLV November 3rd, 2011, 07:32 PM Yes, today Rockstar confirmed my thoughts about the setting of Los Santos only and extensive countryside:
Developed by series creator Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto V heads to the city of Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches in the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created.
A bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present day Southern California.
