View Full Version : #Adelaide: Eastwest Apartments

It will now be called East West Apartments. :) They also seem to have changed the design for the roof section. Somehow I think this will actually be the same height or taller than 223 North Terrace judging by the rendering. Apartments are being released onto the market soon.

Here is the official website: http://www.eastwestapartments.com.au/

And the rendering:

One thing I like about the design was that they angled the balconies so that every apartment has an equal view out onto the terrace, even after 223NT goes up. Does anybody know what the wall we can't see is going to look like? Just a blank wall?

Also surprised to see it's actually underwritten by UniSA. More student housing maybe? Or are they just trying to bum some bucks off the housing markets to build their own student accomodation somewhere else in the future?

With Horizon out the way, this is definitely my favourite development in Adelaide/Glenelg right now!

It sure looks horn allright!! Can't wait for the sight of this plus 223 all finito, should look schmik!

To me, the design looks the same as what was in the City Messenger a few months ago (here (http://home.iprimus.com.au/adamtre/227NorthTce.jpg)), but the colour rendering makes it look a lot nicer.

What are they going to put on the eastern wall? I hope they don't leave it blank, unless they plan to put another high-rise there.

That's a great rendering.

I dont know what the art gallery guy was talking about, but that's a very nice looking building!

But the height remains at 38m.

Will, them museum guys still think we live in an era known as the early 20th century. :( Bloody NIMBYs.

It's a good looking building. Lucky that 223NT is going up though, otherwise it would stick out like a sore thumb.

jacobsian

I think the old 227NT thread got its ass deleted, so let's continue this thread as the construction thread.

Construction doesn't look too close :( A few weeks ago I saw workmen in there and bags of cement/plaster, and I assumed this was because they were sealling off the building for demolition. However, it now looks as if the ground floor is being converted into a display room, which you'd think they'd keep around for a few months yet to get enough sales to justify beginning construction. Meh :(

AtD

Yeah the door handles are in the shape of that EW 3D logo - definitely a display centre.

Should be unreal in a couple of months, we'll have duelling tower cranes!! Bring it on, I cannot wait.

I cannot believe I am sitting here infront of my computer at 1:15 on a saturday night. Oh well, home from AAMI stadium, very happy and wide awake!

35/39 apartments sold as of last Friday, like most of the projects in this city now it's waiting for a builder!

EDIT - the approval for the display center was granted in August for a 6 month period, so maybe we'll see demolition start in February-March.

November 25th, 2003, 04:21 AM
Good time's ahead fellas, I spoke to a dude in the display centre, and demolition work will start very soon with proper construction "hopefully started by the end of the year."
Man they must be going to rip the fuck out of the little jobbie there now! What's the bet this thing beats 223NT in construction speed. BTW I think they have placed another piece of scaffold on.......slow it down fellas..........don't want to break anything...........:bash:

Demo work progressing nicely - won't be too much longer. I don't think there was any underground parking on this job, so I guess once the building is down, foundation work and a crane should not be too far away

I thought the one behind was going too Yob??? Surely the building cannot be that shallow??? 39 apartments on 14 levels, must be pretty small residences, I guess it's student accomodation anyhow, they should be just taking their pick ups back there after a few jars at the uni bar anyhow!

Yeah I've seen it. Now let's wait and see for this building to be placed as heritage listed and this project be stopped........

BTW Yob how was Metallica??? I saw 'em in 1993 at the Ent Cent and they were farking mad then. The entire floor area was one massive mosh! I was up the front at the 2000 BDO for the Chilli Peppers - best live show ever. Couldn't imagine the RHCP being as crazy as the Metal Lickers though - would've gone orf!

Mate.

Metallica destroyed the city of Adelaide last night. Words can't describe how loud it was. Fuck a decibel meter, you'd need a richter scale. I've never as comprehensively gotten my ass kicke in my entire life. 5 rows from the front in the mosh :D

Dude.

I gotta show respect. Talk about staying power for the entire mosh. I guess James Hetfield was his usual, get the fuck outta my way self! I just couldn't get the day off for it, but the boss told me I'm off to Melbourne in a coupla weeks so I guess that makes up for it.
Oh yeah, did they sound much differenct without Jason Newstead, their previous bassist?? What song did they open with??

Oh yeah, um East west apartments are cool - back on track!

jacobsian
January 31st, 2004, 06:34 AM
Fuck the aprtments for the time being :D

They opened with.... BLACKENED! Fuck, when they opened up, I knew I was going to die. After one song the temperature in there was at least 60 degrees, everyone covered in sweat and going crazy, beating the crap out of each other. People landing on my head left right and center. My ears are still ringing after the pyrotecnics display exploded 5 metres in front of me. They played so much old shit it's not funny. Kirk fucked up during Fade To Black but it's all good.

Some 500 pound fat fuck nearly died behind us, and security were trying frantically to get him out. Of course they tried crowd surfing him to the front, and I had 500 pounds of lard land right on my head.

It was pure violence, it kicked ass.

Jaymz stoped 3 times during the show asking us if we were okay, saying "if one of your brothers fall down you pick him up" , "we want the same number of people leaving that came here" and kirk just laughed at us all night. Trujillo has a lot of energy on stage, and the sound was just as it used to be - the new shit sounded better live though, but that's prolly because the mixing in the last cd is shite.

pikey
January 31st, 2004, 06:41 AM
I remember the last time I saw 'em Lars split his middle finger open and just played through the reso of the show. You should've seen the drumskins after the show, looked like someone fucking exploded on them!!! It's wasn't the first time he had done it though!

Tell me they played "Don't tread on me" - My absolute most thrashed out song - it rocks!!!

for whom the bell tolls

*edit - could've been sad but true aswell, can't quite remember. I know jaymz was doing a mini jam on it then launched into a song, but can't remember if they launched in to the actual song itself...... i've got *very* slight concussion from last night when I headbanged myself to pieces during master of puppets, but that's okay, because it was the poor guy behind me that copped it and had his nose mashed :O

Some more exterior walls were being whacked up today. Just about must have topped out, because if you look at the top of the lift core there is an angled section that has been added, and if my memory is correct, the roof is angeld downwards towards the mall. It's been interesting watching this one grow though, prefab construction is bullshit quick! Nearly 6 months from nothing to topped out!

The final level will be where the top level of scaffolding is now, so we've got a clear indication for how tall she will be.

All in all it ended up being a small little bastard, but... at the same time it's bigger than I thought it would be when I saw the first render.

35 storeys is totally inappropriate - but damn it would look cool. Adelaide needs to be daring. It needs to have some planning fuckups, just to bring a little chaos to the sickening order. I'm sick of hearing how perfectly planned the city is. Build a monstrous mistake somewhere!

I'm really starting to like it.

Much better than I thought it would be.

Great use of glass at the top of the western facade.

It was done by the same architect that does most of Urban Construct's work and I think I like it better than their other buildings.

wow, what a sophisticated looking resi - well and truly a cut above average. Also its surely gotta rank among the 'thinnest' scrapers in Oz judging by the front elevation shot.

Can't wait for it's big brother to be finished next door.

top notch photos Yob! :)

Move this thread to the completed section. This thing is well and truly completed.

Yeah well, I count 4 parts of the facade that haven't been attached yet.

People are living in it now. I'd call it complete. It doesn't look half bad either.
