(PHILNICO) but unfortunately temporary shutdown sila ngayon. actually matagal na ngang nag shutdown, time pa ni marcos. several negotiations with diff international investors was done even until now but no fix agreement yet kung ano talaga ang mangyari sa mina na ito. if given a change, this will help the economic status of surigao city.

guys additional FYI: the province of surigao del norte where surigao city is part of it is also the home of worlds iron biggest deposits. in that particular site alone, you will find 5 mining companies, if im not mistaken.

yeah that's right, kasi mga politicians siguro dati, walang mga isip, they dont think for the future. they never have an exact preparation for future expansions kaya yan ang nangyari. but not until now, kasi ang mga roads in the city now that is under construction ay mga six lanes na just like the surigao city blvd na six lanes na siya although dihins pa tapos.

Pagadian City - The Fluvial Parade which started right after the Con-celebrated Mass lead by Bishop Cabajar with a procession from the Sto. Niño Cathedral to the Wharf Area was a huge success! ZAMBOANGA CITY — Elementary school pupil scribes from Pagadian City and Zamboanga City ruled the individual writing contests in English and Filipino, respectively, conducted by the Department of Education (DepEd) during the recent Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) here.

Education Region 9 Director Jesus L. Nieves said Pagadian’s Apple Grace Simon and Alyssa Marie Catalan placed first and second, respectively, in English news writing while their teammates Angelique Joy Virata and Christian Paulo Gomonit topped in editorial and sports writing, respectively.

Nieves announced through regional elementary education division chief Amelia Torralba that Zamboanga’s Regine Cabato came out champion in English feature writing while her citymate Athena Cortesa ruled in photojournalism.

Other first placers in the English category, Torralba said, are Dipolog City’s North Orillan in editorial cartooning and Zamboanga del Sur’s Vivian Leigh Duray in copyreading and headline writing.

In the Filipino category, Zamboanga’s Ariel Demarunsing, Camille Larraine Grizo and Clarence Dabasol topped, respectively, in sports writing, editorial cartooning, and photojournalism.

Other top winners in the same category are Zamboanga del Sur’s Rica Soliva who placed first in news writing, copyreading, and headline writing; Zamboanga Sibugay’s Mary Gillisa Ladringan, editorial writing, and Dipolog’s Steven Karl Dagpin, feature writing.

Torralba said the top pupil penpushers will represent Zamboanga Peninsula to the 2008 National Schools Press Conference.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan here has reiterated its intent for the closure of the Land Transportation Office in Molave as it created duplication and confusion of functions from its mother unit for Zamboanga del Sur which is based in Pagadian.

The legislative body passed Resolutions No. 2K7-177 and 2K8-215, respectively requesting Congressmen Victor J. Yu and Antonio H. Cerilles to make representation with proper authority to the Secretary of Department of Transportation and Communication to order the closure of LTO stationary unit in Molave and other mobile units within the province.

Various reports implicating LTO Molave as the alleged cause of irregularities in terms of LTO functions prompted the Provincial Board to pass such resolutions in order to discourage incidents of fake licenses.

One legislator cited one killing incident occurred in the first district where a carnapped vehicle was used as the getaway vehicle and allegedly registered at LTO Molave.

Moreover, several complaints were received by the Board Members that vehicles being registered at Molave were not reported in the mother unit.

As a consequence, at present majority of motorized vehicle owners in the First District prefer to secure their license in Tangub City if not in Pagadian LTO.

Notwithstanding to those who were aware of the situation compared that getting a student permit to drive in LTO Molave costs P300 while in Pagadian and Tangub it is only P143.

When verified at the LTO Pagadian, it disclosed that the actual cost is only P143 nationwide. However, with the proliferation of “fixers” client may get their prey and have to pay double its cost.

On the other hand, LTO Regional Director Aminola P. Abaton last January 10 issued a memorandum to Minda Banocag, OIC Operation Division, Pagadian City and Monadato M. Mangadang at LTO Molave Extension Office ordering ceasure of all LTO Law Enforcement Operatives and any mode of apprehension within Zamboanga del Sur which took effect immediately until revoked or reconsidered.

ZAMBOANGA CITY - The Gaisano Group, southern Philippines' dominant retail chain, is building its first major shopping mall complex in Zamboanga Peninsula in Pagadian City. The construction of the mall, now on full swing, is expected to boost economic activities in the region.

ZAMBOANGA CITY - The Gaisano Group, southern Philippines' dominant retail chain, is building its first major shopping mall complex in Zamboanga Peninsula in Pagadian City.

The construction of the mall, now on full swing, is expected to boost economic activities in the region.

In a telephone interview, Maria Socorro M. Atay, Department of Trade and Industry Zamboanga del Sur chief, said the more than P100-million Gaisano Mall-Pagadian is the newest among the company's chain of shopping complexes in Mindanao.

Representatives of the Gaisano group could not be reached for comment.

The mall is being built on a one-hectare property along Pagadian's Rizal Ave., which is located at the city's central business district.

The four-storey mall, which started construction in the last quarter of 2007, is expected to be fully operational in the middle of this year.

Ms. Atay said the Pagadian City Investment and Incentive Board approved the construction of the mall in the second quarter of 2007.

"Actually, the Gaisanos bought the land 10 years ago and our mayor (Samuel S. Co) convinced them to set up the mall by guaranteeing them perks," Ms. Atay said.

Perks include exemption from local tax of four years, three years in real estate tax, and mayor's permit.

In a statement, Mayor Co said that the entry of Gaisano "will boost Pagadian's economy and will generate revenue and employment."

Aside from Gaisano, Best Emporium, a retailer from Zamboanga City, is also setting up a shopping mall in Pagadian City. Best Emporium's mall, Ms. Atay said, would be of the same size as Gaisano's.

Pagadian City sits at the northeastern side of Zamboanga Peninsula and is a point of entry to the cities of Ozamis, Iligan and Cotabato.

The city is poised to become the regional center of Zamboanga Peninsula based on Memorandum circular no. 75 signed by Executive Secretary Eduardo R. Ermita.

Ms. Atay said several food chains have also started to put up their businesses in the Pagadian, including fastfood giant Jollibee Foods Corp.

Lowell S. Vallecer, information officer of the Trade and Industry regional office said Zamboanga del Sur has generated more than P1.5 billion in domestic investment in 2007.

The entry of Gaisano in Pagadian City could edge out Zamboanga City in terms of luring investors.

But Sheila E. Covarrubias, City Hall information officer, said that in October last year, a Gaisano executive also expressed intention to invest in Zamboanga citing the numerous potentials of the city.

A member of the Zamboanga City chamber of commerce confirmed to BusinessWorld that the Gaisanos are already scouting for areas, particularly on the western coast of the city.

James Cesar L. Makasiar, newly elected president of the Zamboanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry downplayed earlier reports that local retailers are lobbying against the entry of big shopping mall developers.

"I don't think [that's true] and there is no barrier in setting up businesses here," he told BusinessWorld.

"If you will see it in a different perspective, I think there are a lot of factors why these giant mall developers have not yet successfully set up its businesses here. One is that there are already too many retail stores here."

Zamboanga City (February 4) -- To eliminate resistance from Zamboanga City officials for the implementation of Executive Order 429 in favor of Pagadian City, Malacañang promised to make the former the industrial or trade center in Region IX.

With this arrangement, City Government officials of Pagadian are now more relaxed in addressing issues and concerns for the transfer of regional offices to this city following a calibrated scheme as agreed by the Technical Working Group under the supervision of Secretary Silvestre Bello III, the Presidential Assistant on New Regional Government Centers.

During the 6th Regional Transfer TWG held here last January 15, Pagadian City officials headed by City Mayor Samuel Co have agreed with their counterparts from Zamboanga City officials that every time the TWG meets, discussion on making Zamboanga City an Industrial Center should also be tackled.

With Mayor Co were City Councilors Wilson Co, Arnulfo Garcia, Bienvenido Culve, Arnold Gavenia and SK Federation President Fausto Lingating together with Engr. Leonila Sisona, the Executive Director of the Pagadian Regional Center-Management and Coordinating Office and her staff.

On the other hand, Zamboanga City Mayor Celso Lobregat sent city councilors Juan Climaco Elago, Lynette Abarro, Rudy Lim and Asbi Edding who voiced out their apprehension of possible economic infertility as soon as majority of the regional offices move out to Pagadian, the new regional center.

Elago, in agitation said Zamboanga City would be disadvantaged because of the vacuum left as soon as all the regional offices will be transferred to Pagadian.

Elago added that while discussing the transfer of regional offices to Pagadian, the TWG should also discuss Zamboanga City's 3 main projects which need budget allocation from the national government, such as: 1) new airport; 2) new industrial seaport and 3) circumferential road.

The Zamboanga City solon was hopeful that these projects will offset the economic and social vacuum by the time the over 7,000 regional employees and their dependents are already settled in Pagadian.

NEDA Regional Director Rafael Evangelista presided the said meeting. He told the body that he was commissioned by Assistant Secretary Danny Encenas of the office of Presidential Assistant on New Government Centers.

In that meeting, Regional Directors Julita Ragandang (DAR), Oscar Parawan (DA), Brenda Nazareth (DOST); DENR Regional Technical Director Reynaldo Bayabos and DPWH's Winefreda Constantino were called to give updates on the status of their full transfer to this city.

The bottomline of the matter is that Pagadian people simply "want to push what has been promised that the city will be converted into a business district in the region."

Ateneo de Zamboanga University - Pagadian Campus? what??? the hell! Having new Ateneo campus will be more controversial than what happened to our new campus here in Zamboanga, the Ateneo de Zamboanga University High School-Kruetz Campus is one of the most controversial campus in Western Mindanao. Its really funny if AdeZU will expand in Pagadian, since kakaexpand lang ng AdeZU last year. :lol: saan mo nakuha source mo?

Ipil gears for "Wow Zamboanga Peninsula" (http://www.pia.gov.ph/default.asp?m=12&fi=p080214.htm&no=53)

Dipolog City (14 February) -- Preparations are underway for the holding of the WOW Zamboanga Peninsula, a tourism promotional campaign initiated by the Department of Tourism (DOT), set in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay from Feb. 15-26.

Participating local government units will be joining the float presentation and tourism trade exhibit. They will also present cultural shows featuring their respective history and culture.

The LGU tourism packages will focus on the diverse and attractive tourist sites, history and culture.

The 2008 Wow Zampen will coincide with Sibugay's founding anniversary on February 24 to be capped by Sibug festival.

In September last year Wow Zampen was held in Pagadian City in time for the founding anniversary of Zamboanga del Sur.

The Wow Zampen is the localized version of Wow Philippines, initiated and launched by then tourism secretary and now Senator Richard Gordon in Intramuros, Manila in 2003.

It is only region 9 that maintains vigorous campaign on tourism all over the country. In 2005, Wow Zampen was held in Zamboanga Cit, coinciding with the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival. The following year it was held in Dipolog City.

The Wow Zampen is initiated by DOT regional office led by Dir. Ricardo San Juan in coordination with the regional tourism council chaired by Atty. Allan Ranillo.
