Robinsons Hiring (http://pagadian.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=528:robinsons-hiring-&catid=34:demo-category)

TENSE AND EXCITEMENT fill the air as hundreds of work applicants line up at the city’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO) bringing with them credentials for employment at the Robinsons Supermarket. Robinsons is set to open its 22nd store in Pagadian City

nside the City Commercial Complex’s (C3) basement this December, timed for the yuletide season. Robinsons, owned by John Gokongwei Jr., sells quality merchandise, groceries, constructions, carpentry and electrical tools, furniture, kitchen utensils at reasonable prices.

Kit Bodegas, human resource manager of Robinsons said that they need at least 60 male and female employees who are either degree holders for managerial positions and college levels or with enough experience and background for the rank-and-file.

Bodegas disclosed that positions Robinsons wants to fill up range from store manager, assistant store manager, administrative officer, sales supervisors, clerks, checkers, cashiers, utility men, graphic artists and technical specialists.

Hiring for these positions ended last Aug. 26, while prospects will then be scheduled for interview and those hired shall undergo a one-month training, Bodegas added.

He likewise cited the help of the PESO and its manager, Engr. Joseph Isaias Quipot, and his staff for organizing the jobs processing.

“Robinsons branching out to Pagadian City will surely help give employment to Pagadianons and at the same time provide exposure to Robinsons in this part of Mindanao,” he said.

For his part, Quipot said Robinsons’ presence in the regional center has lent a hand to the city government’s employment promotion program.

Quipot added that aside from Robinsons, there are also job openings for managerial positions, accounting clerks and cashiers at the Gaisano Capital, Greenwich, RD Pawnshop and also welders for Lao Construction.

Mayor Samuel Co said he is happy with the development, adding the soft opening of the C3 this December will surely attract more lease proposals from other big businesses in Luzon and Visayas including international food chains and franchises, textiles, hardware and ready-to-wear companies.

Co Gives Motorbikes To PNP, Traffic Aide (http://pagadian.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=530:co-gives-motorbikes-to-pnp-traffic-aide&catid=34:demo-category)

WITH INSTRUCTIONS that these be used primarily for official purposes, Mayor Samuel Co last week turned-over six brand new big motorcycles: two to the PNP and four to the city’s Traffic Aide Group.
Costing about P115,000 each, including accessories and permits,

the two big bikes issued to the PNP will be for increased police visibility and immediate response to crime calls, said C/Insp. Michael Palermo, chief of police.

Co said he purchased the said motorcycles to help strengthen the city’s security, as he saw its functional suitability and practicability in the locality as the motorbikes can easily maneuver on crowded streets to reach accident scenes more quickly.

The mayor added that as an inexpensive public transportation for the city government’s use, he might try to acquire more units in the near future for the use other offices to boast their mobile efficiency.

In previous interviews, Palermo admitted to this paper that aside from the available PNP patrol car, some policemen use their personal motorcycles for routine patrolling in the streets, to enforce traffic laws and/or respond to emergencies.

The police chief added that he has already issued the guidelines on motorcycle use among his policemen, telling them that said government vehicles are for official use only, especially during emergencies, and not for escorting VIPs.

Palermo said he also ordered the assigned motorcycle officers to wear proper uniform with the prescribed helmets for protection when using the units.

BTW, kung pwede lang ta maglabot2 sa city planning ba, pwede dili na lang idayon ang mga center islands sa mga widened streets? Because in times of emergency, pwede magamit sa mga utility vehicles (eg ambulance and firetruck) and center lane...

Agora’s Fish Section Soon To Reopen

THOUGH SWARMED with controversies and protest after its edifice burned down two years ago, the fish section of this city’s public market will finally reopen on September 10, Mayor Samuel Co announced. Co said the newly restored 252-stall fish section

will now ease out the cramming fishmongers inside the Agora who were relocated after the fire and continued their businesses in makeshift structures.
Prioritized for tenancy are the old renters, of course, said Co, provided they have no unpaid old accounts as they will be required to pay P1,500, equivalent to a month’s rent and a couple of months’ deposit.

The mayor said the renovated everything out of the smoldered edifice, from the roof, drainage up to the tiled floors and electrical wirings costing the city government some P7 million.

Co also disclosed that if funding allows, he will also repair the other portions of Agora and transfer the meat section from the non-meat eaters as well as including to reconstruct stalls “in order to compete with supermarket stores in downtown Pagadian.”

“Hangyo lang ko sa inyong suporta ug pasensiya. Ampingi pod ninyo inyohang mga stalls nga dili mangadaot kay mahal atong gasto ana,” Co appealed.

It may be recalled that a fire razed to the ground P70-million worth of structures and stocks, among them some 600 stalls of vegetable and dried fish vendors in the Agora last April 2008.

Due to the serious damage, the City Disaster Coordinating Council (CDCC) declared the Agora “in a state of calamity” and allocated P16.5-million from its calamity fund for the construction of a makeshift structure, provided financial assistance to the affected vendors and relocated them.

The two-hour fire partly engulfed the fish and meat sections even as the CDCC said the incident affected a big segment of the populace, being the main public market in Zamboanga del Sur.

Talks also started to circulate at the time that the fire was as a plot to cause the transfer of the ukay-ukay section, carenderias, bakeries, cafés and videoke stores to the newly reopened Agora along Ariosa Street.

Co, when confronted by media on the said reports denied the accusation. “Why would we destroy our own property?” he asked.

“I am not crazy to do that. If my reason is to drive out people for the sake of development in the area and then bring damage to P70-million worth in properties, we cannot afford to lose that much just to implement development. I am not that kind of a public servant,” he explained then.

Tanong lang, hourly ba ang departure ng buses from Zamboanga City to Pagadian? I wanna try to have a tour of the city someday kasi I've never gone beyond Pagadian's airport premises when I went there years ago. What are the best hotels in the city and what are their features / available services? ..And it would be very much helpful if you included their rates. Thanks! :)

C3 could be the only mall in the Philippines occupying all 4 sides of a prime downtown block!

Southway Square Mall also occupies a whole block in the central business district of Zamboanga City. Just a bit of info. :)

I guess AC buses leaves hourly, and 30 mins interval for economy bus. I would love to stay in budget hotels if i were you, JV hotel, JRC grand and pension de yllana, you will just pay 350php overnight (AC rooms, cable Tv, free wifi). pero i guess mayaman ka, Hotel Alindahaw would suit your needs then.

Zambo Sur Marks 58th Anniversary
By TONY PE. RIMANDO
September 11, 2010, 6:35pm

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur – With Vice President Jejomar C. Binay as special guest of honor, Zamboanga del Sur will celebrate its 58th anniversary on September 17 which also serves as the culmination of the province’s week-long “Megayon Festival.”

Zamboanga del Sur Gov. Antonio H. Cerilles said the anniversary program, to be held at the provincial government complex in Barangay Dao, will be preceded by a civicmilitary parade around the major streets of this hilly capital city which is often described by foreign and domestic visitors as the “Little Hong Kong” of the Philippines due to its physical similarity to the Crown Colony.

Cerilles said Senator Francis Escudero is also expected come over to this new Western Mindanao regional center to crown the winner in the 2010.

“Search for Miss Zamboanga del Sur” in the evening of September 16 even as Binay, concurrent national chief of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP), will also grace the province’s BSP assembly in the early part of the day.

The provincial executive announced that various significant activities have been lined up during the pre-anniversary festivities to provide wholesome entertainment and amusement to thousands of spectators coming from the province’s municipalities and other neighboring areas of Zamboanga Peninsula.

According to Cerilles, the activities include the kick-off rites of the five-day provincial Boy Scout jamboree, Barangay Recognition Night, provincial assembly followed by fellowship night of the Katipunan ng Guardian’s Brotherhood (KGB), provincial dangerous drugs forum, dog show, livestock fair, walkathon, Women’s for Empowerment-Rural Improvement Club (WFM-RIC), sports fest, and launching of the Zamboanga del Sur Report – official organ of the provincial government.

Pagadian-Manila Flights Daily By December (http://www.pagadian.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=536:pagadian-manila-flights-daily-by-december&catid=34:demo-category)

WITH A HEAVY volume of passenger traffic in its two routes since it opened last April, Cebu Pacific (CEB) will add more flights in its direct Pagadian-Manila route this November, Mayor Samuel Co said. In his weekly Mayor’s Report radio program,

Co announced that passengers will have something to look forward in the Yuletide season when balikbayans, vacationers and business and leisure travelers will come and visit the city because CEB will already have a five times a week schedule in November for its Pagadian-Manila route and then daily by December.

Pagadian City is CEB’s 33rd domestic destination and it has other existing flights in Mindanao direct from Manila and Cebu like in Surigao, Siargao, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Dipolog, Ozamiz, Zamboanga, Cotabato, General Santos and Davao.

The Gokongwei-owned airline presently uses a 156-seater Airbus 5J774 for its Pagadian-Manila destination, which flies every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1:30 p.m. and it is Pagadian-Cebu destination, which flies every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 12:20 p.m.

Co said the CEB’s flights from the regional center of Western Mindanao to Cebu and Manila have offered great convenience to city travelers and added that he is also in high spirits after hearing of this favorable scheme from the transportation company.

“Usa kini ka maayong balita nga atong ika-report sa katawhan, ako manghinauton lang nga suportahan nato ang maong lakang pinaagi sa pagsakay dinhi lang sa atong airport,” he said.

According to Juliete Gulde of Ilang-Ilang Travel Agency the Pagadian-Manila route current one-way fare is P4,584 while a promotional price for tickets bought in advance for November is P2,456.

Judith Jugarap, a staff from the City Tourism Office commenting on this new development said that the additional flights is good news as this will surely boost tourist visits and other developments in the regional center.

“Daghan gyod malipay ana ilabi na kadtong mga biyahero kay naa na silay options sa mga flights,” she added.
Ruth Santisteban, a government employee, also told this paper that Cebu Pacific’s additional flights from Pagadian to Manila is a sign that the city is thriving and that she is happy since there will be flights to Manila any time of the week. – BROUGHT TO YOU BY PAGADIAN EXPRESS

MANILA, Philippines – Cebu Pacific (CEB) promotes travel to all its Mindanao and Malaysia destinations in a seat sale from September 21-23, 2010 or until seats last, for travel from November 1, 2010 to January 31, 2011.

Guests traveling from Manila to Kota Kinabalu can avail of P999 “Go Lite” seats, while those traveling to Kuala Lumpur can avail of P1,999 “Go Lite” seats. Brunei ‘Go Lite’ seats are also available for only P1,499.

Meanwhile, for travel from November 1 to December 31, 2010, passengers can avail of P999 “Go Lite” seats from Davao to Zamboanga and Iloilo. Flights from Manila to all CEB destinations to Mindanao are also available for the ‘Go Lite’ seat sale fare of P1,199.

These P1,199 seats are available for flights from Manila to Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Cotabato, Davao, Dipolog, General Santos, Ozamiz, Pagadian, and Zamboanga.

Those with check-in luggage will just add P100 upon booking.

“We encourage guests who will travel November to January to book early and avail of this seat sale. Aside from our Davao hub, we fly from Manila to nine destinations in Mindanao, offering the most extensive network in Southern Philippines,” said CEB VP for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog.

I was in Pagadian last week. I spent three days in the city. I have conducted a seminar in Zamboanga del Sur National High School for the WMSU-ESU students.

I was billeted at GV Hotel, a new hotel in the city. The accomodation is nice (except for very unfriendly attendants) because it is just adjacent to Gaisano Mall and key areas in the city.

I was fascinated by the huge C3 Mall, its size and design is admirable given the fact that it is government owned.

I hope to meet a forumer from Pagadian. I will be back in your city on October 2. I was invited to grace the sportsfest of WMSU-ESU Pagadian.

Rotational Brownout Is Here Again

THE ZAMBOANGA DEL Sur Electric Cooperative (Zamsureco-I) franchise area has announced that two-hour rotational power interruptions will again be experienced until further notice. As announced by the local electric distribution utility information officer Levi Cabatcha

to this paper through text message last Sunday, the rotational brownout has already started since last Sept. 14. Cabatcha said this action was to give flesh to the communication sent by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to Zamsureco-I advising it to implement its load curtailment.

But unlike what happened during summer when massive brownouts hit western Mindanao due to inadequate water in the grid’s dams, the current power outage is due to “the repairs and maintenance of NGCP power plants,” Cabatcha’s message said.

Last March, power load curtailment around Mindanao was due to outage of a National Power Corporation (NPC) hydro-electric plant in Pulangi River, Bukidnon and the reduced capabilities of the other NPC hydro-electric plants in Lake Lanao, Iligan.

Presently, the imposed rotating brownout range is from at 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. so as to cope with the required 5 megawatts power curtailment as advised by NGCP.

The load curtailment is affecting a total of 20 municipalities in Zamboanga del Sur under Zamsureco-I’s Switch in Ramon Magsaysay and its sub-station in San Miguel and part of the Pagadian City service areas.

In past interviews, Zamsureco-I General Manager Jose Raul A. Saniel estimated the impact of such rotational brownout to about P7-million in losses per month, as the Pagadian City Water District, one of Zamsureco-I’s largest industrial customer, has claimed it has already loss to almost P2-million in power cost adjustment including expenses incurred for the repair of its generators drawing power from sources.

Last Sept. 18, a brownout occurred from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the Aurora-Molave and Polanco 69KV line but this was not part of the rotational brownout but the replacement of wooden cross-arms and insulators, explained Edinower Cabanos, chief engineer of NGCP Transmission.

Cabatcha said Zamsureco-I regrets the inconvenience of the rotational brownout and added that the electric cooperative will “exert all efforts to restore electric service” the soonest possible.

Kinsa mana si GearX pagadianongyud?

the proposal is from Michael Ian Ybañez... i think proposal ni niya sa isa ka ECO-Zone area sa Pagadian.. Coz i have a good friend and an uncle from the city hall... nag ingon siya.. that one of next years mayor plan is to make the uptown very better and nice... They plan to put up ECO-Zone in the north diversion road area... and the plan is a Mall ( Town-up Plaza Mall / SM Mall )... as of part of the national budget from the regional transfer... this will make the progress from the uptown part to the downtown area.. kasi malapit lang dyan yong regional offices...

Note: This is just a proposal..... From the city Admin... this is not final.... naka dungog ko ani ra pud...

PIA Press Release
2004/08/04

P100 million Tulay ng Pangulo to be constructed soon in Zambo

Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay (Aug. 4) -- The off-banned Tulay ng Pangulo connecting the Olutanga Island to the mainland will be implemented very soon.

British Engineer Graham Russel with Tulay ng Pangulo Project Director Kagim Jajurie and several provincial officials led by Vice Governor Eric Cabarios visited the area last week to check on the preparations for the construction of the bridge.

In an earlier report, the project cost was estimated at Php 100 million or more at Php P 300,000 per linear meter based on the engineering principle with the use of fabricated steel structures. The bridge will traverse a 320-meter distance from barangay Florida in Talusan to Tampalan in Alicia.

The project will benefit the three island municipalities of Talusan, Mabuhay and Subanipa. Said project will be funded by a grant from England and Spain. (PIA) [top]

(PIA) [top]

LTO District Office Transferred To Tiguma

THE LAND Transportation Office (LTO) has opened its new district office in Brgy. Tiguma from Balangasan District, this city and inaugurated its new “One Stop Shop” facility. The transfer of the new district office is in line with the regional transfer and mandate to deliver efficient and systematic processing services through the “One Stop Shop” in compliance in the implementation of the international standard of operation (ISO), Regional Director Aminola Abaton said. The “One Stop Shop,” one of the 30 in the country and the first in Mindanao, enables readily available transactions in securing a driver’s license like drug tests and medical examination required for the issuance of Medical Certificate.
For motor vehicle registration, insurance and emission test facilities are also available, Abaton added.
The area and building costs around P5-million built through a public-private sector partnership. Under the said scheme, LTO counterparted the manpower and the equipment needed for the office operations while the other facilities like the drug test, medical, insurance and the emission test were provided by the other proponent.

“Our main objective here is to fast track or to shorten the transaction with the best public service mandated as certified ISO in licensing,” Regional Quality Management Representative (RQMR) and Assistant Regional Director Mohammad Yusop Lamping also said.

For his part, LTO District Chief Emmanuel Barreto assured the public there are no more fixers and bureaucratic red tapes in the office with the implementation of the ISO and “One Stop Shop System.”

Barreto likewise said that the old LTO office in Balangasan is still functioning as a Regional Operation Center for the payments of fines and penalties for violations committed by drivers and or operators during Law Enforcement Team operations. LTO Executive Director Recardo Alfonso Jr., Gov. Antonio Cerilles, Congresswoman Aurora Cerilles and Mayor Samuel Co attended the blessing and inauguration of the new LTO district office last Oct. 11.

Budget for Mindanao railway out soon
Friday, October 29, 2010

THE long-overdue Mindanao Railway project will finally be realized through the efforts of Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez (2nd district).

Rodiguez, who authored House Bill 1855, which calls for the creation of the Mindanao Railways Corporation and for funds for its operation, said that by 2011, at least $1 billion will be released by foreign investors from Germany or China in time for the project's initial construction.

He said Congress has approved his bill and the money is now being released for the railway project to continue its operation.

"The ongoing project is expected to be finished sooner but not in time for the Laguindingan International Airport, which is about to be finished," Rodriguez said.

He said contractors will not rush the billion-dollar project as they will make sure that it will be state-of-the-art and one of its kind in Mindanao.

Rodriguez said they are already in the process of doing civil works, where they will pay lot owners and the indigenous people for the road right of way.

"This project is expected to cut off travel time within different cities in Mindanao by at least 50 percent aside from providing comfort to passengers. No hassles," Rodriguez said.

The feasibility study of the Mindanao Railway project started in 2003 and Rodriguez said they hope to finish it before his term ends.

The Mindanao Railway project is estimated to cost P66.5 billion (US$1.33 billion) and would be implemented in four phases with the initial route to start from Laguindingan and end in Cagayan de Oro City. It aims to cut the present 90-minute bus travel time between Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City to just about 15 to 20 minutes.

The railway is expected to link urban centers like Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, Zamboanga, Pagadian, Dipolog, Marawi, Cotabato and Davao. (Nicole J. Managbanag)

C3 coming up nicely; probably the most imposing bldg. in Pag. since it's facing the street in all 4-sides. I wonder where the big "R" sign will be?. This will be a landmark structure indeed.

Hi! Budget traveller here from Manila, and I will be in Pagadian on the last week of this month with my wife and 3-yr old boy, planning to see any of the following:

Dao Dao islands
White Beach
Manga Falls and Twin Caves
Bulatoc Hill
Muricay Beach
Pulacan Falls
Lakewood

If you’ve seen these places, which of them are worth the visit, considering that we only have 2.5 days to stay in Pagadian? Unlike me, my wife and kid has short patience on long walks or hikes.

Any tips on how to get to such places, transportation/boat fares, value-for-money hotels, must-try eateries, will also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Henry Sy and science
Source: Inquirer.net
By Antonio J. Montalvan II

IT IS probably the Rolls-Royce of science museums in the Philippines, and the fact that it attracts a mass of crowding schoolchildren each day should serve as an assurance that education in science and technology is benefiting many of our young, albeit in an alternative way outside the classroom. Located right in the midst of the SM Mall of Asia is taipan Henry Sy’s brainchild, the Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center.

Corporate museums in the Philippines are slowly growing by the handful, but the taipan chose a different genre of museum especially characterized by its hands-on interactive way of educating the museum audience. Managing the museum is Family Entertainment Center Inc., a subsidiary of the SM Group of Companies.

It would be an understatement to say that the place is filled with education. The basic scientific operations that any school child knows are all there. But it is much more than that. Many of the center’s features are both current and futuristic. A section on global warming actually teaches one to find ways to help mitigate the melting of polar ice.

Among its very interactive presentations is a virtual coral reef where a “fish friend,” Mr. T, actually answers questions on how we can take part in saving our seas. The museum viewer gets inspired by the motivational interaction. There is the Bug Rug where viewers walk through a virtual Madagascar forest floor and apply real techniques done by entomologists to know more about different critters.

There is the usual robotics section, but it goes beyond presentation by allowing children a hands-on learning process about building and programming robots. A section on “City Science” features miniature replicas of the tallest buildings in the world. Here, an exhibit shows how the largest cities of the world can be affected by tremors from an earthquake simulator. The “Smart Media City” has the latest software in information technology and computer graphics with hands-on computer terminals and LCD screens that allow for interactive learning on 3-D virtual worlds.

The crowning glory of the museum is the huge orb that one does not miss in the center of it all. It is called the “Digistar Planetarium” and is considered one of the best in Southeast Asia. Inside, it is actually a theater of the “stars” (the real variety) with a seamless domed screen that is awesomely enormous, literally bringing the viewer to the edge of one’s seat. Among several showings are the “Dawn of the Space Age,” “Stars of the Pharaohs,” “Cosmic Collisions” (simulations of cosmic impacts narrated by actor Robert Redford), “Passport to the Universe” (a virtual tour of intergalactic space narrated by actor Tom Hanks) and the “Seven Wonders of the World” and their present-day counterparts.

Ensuring both visual and aural pleasure is a digital surround sound system that enwraps the viewer’s perspective. The “Dawn of the Space Age” was a particularly moving presentation of man’s first landing on the moon in 1969. Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin come alive with the now-famous words “one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” It is as if one’s feet are literally on the moon’s Sea of Tranquility.

Science museums are actually a burgeoning trend in the country. That SM has joined the growing venture with an extremely high-tech investment is a good paradigm for corporate institutions to follow. Others have opined that where SM malls sprout, a conversely proportional decline in the values of young people takes place because of the crass materialism it lures them to. May SM Mall of Asia’s Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center be able to reverse that trend.

The trailblazer in hands-on science museums in the country is the Philippine Science Centrum, a victim of last year’s Typhoon “Ondoy” devastation in the city of Marikina. Building on the come-on that “science is fun,” that is exactly what it offers to the viewer, who may not necessarily be a child. The galleries feature interactions on electricity and magnetism, lights, water, earth science, vision and perception, mathematics, bioethics and biotechnology, mechanics and a host of other things.

Located at the Riverbanks Center, the centrum actually supports a network of science museums nationwide, apart from its popularly received traveling exhibits. It considers as its most active provincial counterpart the Oro Science and Technology Centrum of the Mindanao University of Science and Technology in Cagayan de Oro City. As expected, all of the exhibits are hands-on, a must for people of all ages and not just schoolchildren.

To be sure, there are varieties of science museums. For example, the realm of Natural Science has very well invaded the Mindanao museum world. The finest and most equipped example is the Natural Science Museum of the College of Science and Mathematics of Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology in Iligan City which opened in the late 1970s. There is a private initiative in Pagadian City by the visual artist Edison Abraham, the Metro Park Science Museum where replica fossils of prehistoric animals are exhibited. In a class of its own is the Mindanao Food Museum of UP Mindanao in Davao City.

Science museums are the new vehicles in the pursuit of science education. They come at a special time when we lament the decline of science knowledge among our school graduates. Science museums have become authorities of their own by creating a friendly environment for learning science in an alternative non-classroom atmosphere. Those with the wherewithal should take note not only of the pedagogical benefits of this venture but also of the capital profitability it can generate. Above all, it provides a healthy resource of weekend leisure for families.

Yep. Trivia: Upon installation, GOH's scenic elevator will be the second highest installed scenic elevator in Mindanao and the highest operational scenic elevator in Mindanao. :) Anyway, why is the glass blue? It would have been nicer if it were just clear, makes one appreciate the beauty of the city more. Is C3 Mall going to be the second mall in Mindanao with a scenic elevator? The only other mall that I know that has a scenic elevator (2 actually) is G-Mall in Davao City. And btw, will this elevator be available for the use of the general public? And finally, how high will C3's scenic elevator go? I mean, how many storeys will it cover?

CEB slashes Pagadian, Ozamiz and Surigao fares
By Reynaldo G. Navales
Friday, November 5, 2010

LOW fare leader and pioneer, Cebu Pacific (CEB) reduces its fares to Pagadian, Ozamiz and Surigao in a seat sale from November 6-8, 2010 or until seats last, for travel from January 1-March 31, 2011.

Passengers traveling from Cebu to Ozamiz, Surigao and Pagadian can avail of P399 "Go Lite" seats, while P999 "Go Lite" seats are up for grabs for those traveling from Manila to Ozamiz and Pagadian.

Those with check-in luggage will just add P100 for a "Go fare" booking.

"We encourage passengers who usually take ferries to book CEB seats with this seat sale. With a flying time between 45-85 minutes and 15 kilos free baggage allowance for 'Go fare' bookings, CEB is definitely more convenient for guests on business or leisure travel," said CEB Vice President for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog.

"To make travel even more convenient for guests, we will also increase frequencies to select domestic destinations due to demand and the timely arrival of three brand-new Airbus A320 aircraft this last quarter of 2010," she added.

The airline's Cebu-Bacolod direct flights will be twice daily starting November 24, 2010.

From December 5, 2010 onwards, its Manila-Cebu flights will be 12 times daily, and Manila-Boracay (Caticlan) flights will be 11 times daily. Flights from Cebu to Puerto Princesa will also be increased from thrice weekly to seven times weekly.

Meanwhile, flights from Cebu to Boracay (Caticlan) and General Santos will be twice daily on the same day.

Starting December 16, 2010, Manila-Kalibo flights will be 16 times weekly, and Manila-Puerto Princesa flights will be four times daily starting February 5, 2011.

For CEB booking and inquiries, guests can visit www.cebupacificair.com or http://funtours.cebupacificair.com or call (02) 7020-888 or (032) 230-8888. The latest seat sales can also be found on cebupacificair on Twitter and Facebook Fan Page.

"Guests without credit cards can also book online and use our payment centers to pay. These centers include Bancnet online, LBC, Megalink, and partner banks Metrobank, BDO and Robinsons Savings Bank," Iyog said.

CEB operates the youngest aircraft fleet in the country, and will take delivery of three brand new A320 aircraft in the last quarter of 2010. The airline flew the most number of domestic and international passengers in the 1st half of 2010, based on Civil Aeronautics Board data.

Published in the Sun.Star Pampanga newspaper on November 06, 2010.

Goldilocks bakeshop chain to open 40 branches, Pangasinan processing plant this year

THE GOLDILOCKS bakeshop chain wants to put up 40 stores to end the year with nearly 350 branches nationwide, a company official said.

A new manufacturing plant will start operations this year to tap more markets in Northern Luzon through franchising and “organic growth.”

“For this year, our target is to open 40 stores...[for the first half] more than one-half of that were opened,” Lin E. Deres, franchise relations manager of Goldilocks Bakeshop, Inc., said in a recent interview.

Goldilocks has 303 stores nationwide, about 80% of which are in Luzon. The chain opened about 40 stores last year.

Under the expansion program, the number of new company-owned and franchised stores should be equal, through a combination of bakeshop and full-restaurant outlets, Ms. Deres said.

“Consumers do not feel so restricted in terms of spending now,” Ms. Deres noted.

Two options are available for franchisees: a bakeshop or a full restaurant that includes a bakeshop. Franchisees need to invest P6 million to P8 million for a bakeshop, including the P800,000 franchise fee. The investment is P10 million to P13 million for full stores, including the P1.2-million franchise fee.

Goldilocks will start operations in a new food processing plant in Northern Luzon. “We are opening a new plant in [the municipality of] Rosales in Pangasinan. That opens markets of opportunity in the north,” Ms. Deres said.

Goldilocks produces cakes and delicacies in processing plants in Mandaluyong, Cabuyao in Laguna, Davao, Iloilo, and Cebu.

“We need to open a plant because of our processes. We do everything inside, we bake all products at the plant level,” she said.

“We are also looking at better sites in Visayas and Mindanao,” she said, referring to cities like Pagadian in Zamboanga del Sur and Butuan in Agusan del Norte.

Meanwhile, new product offerings like sugar-free cakes and “Health Tinapays” will expand the market of Goldilocks, she added.

Early this year, Goldilocks encountered problems due to the retrenchment of striking workers. But Ms. Deres said the issue had been settled.

The chain was established in 1966. In 1976, a branch opened in Los Angeles, California. Goldilocks now has 19 stores in the United States, including San Francisco, Sacramento, San Diego, and Las Vegas. It also has outlets in Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong.
