Wow! Congrats!
Fahdingding November 18th, 2010, 05:17 AM Yep. Trivia: Upon installation, GOH's scenic elevator will be the second highest installed scenic elevator in Mindanao and the highest operational scenic elevator in Mindanao. :) Anyway, why is the glass blue? It would have been nicer if it were just clear, makes one appreciate the beauty of the city more. Is C3 Mall going to be the second mall in Mindanao with a scenic elevator? The only other mall that I know that has a scenic elevator (2 actually) is G-Mall in Davao City. And btw, will this elevator be available for the use of the general public? And finally, how high will C3's scenic elevator go? I mean, how many storeys will it cover?
Thnx for the trivia!
Bravo! Bravo! :applause::applause::applause:

Lot's of break and entry happening in Pagadian as well, one right opposite the police headquarters, quite daring so be alert. These are the woes of urbanization, while the good things go up, so are the bad.

Pagadianongyud November 20th, 2010, 08:29 AM Pagadian’s bright prospects
BY MARIT STINUS-REMONDE
Pagadian City, the capital city of the Province of Zamboanga del Sur, easily pales in comparison with the more populous, more colorful and exotic Zamboanga City. True enough, my companions quickly ran out of places to show me, but this doesn’t make Pagadian City a dull place or a place not to watch.
Shoe Mart has reportedly bought a big property in a still agricultural and rural corner of the city. The City Commercial Center (or C3 Mall) is currently being constructed by the city government adding to the already existing shopping centers. Road widening projects are ongoing everywhere in the city.
An executive order issued by President Corazon Aquino in 1990 made Pagadian City the regional government center, but the order was only implemented in 2004. There has been resistance among officials and employees of the affected government agencies to transfer from Zamboanga City. Today, however, most agencies have transferred to Pagadian City with only a few still in Zamboanga City.
The presence of more than 40 national government agencies and offices is of course a boost to the local economy. Unfortunately, the area still struggles with negative perceptions of a public that associates everything in Mindanao with the Abu Sayyaf Group. The attack on Ipil in 1995 is still something that scares businessmen outside of Mindanao.
Yes, there are Muslim communities in Pagadian City and Zamboanga del Sur. The municipality of Labangan reportedly has a large Muslim population. Pilferage of electricity is a big problem in this town, according to Zamboanga del Sur 1 Electric Cooperative (ZAMSURECO I) but pilferers include both Muslims and Christians.
Even big businessmen in Pagadian City have not been ashamed to illegally tap electricity.

litigs November 20th, 2010, 08:54 PM It is typical for mall developers to grab any available lot that is cheap and at the right location and if there is any indication that it has been bought, the prices of the adjacent lots would have gone up quick with local businessmen scrambling to purchase them. While it can not be confirmed that its SM, one thing for sure is that most of those lots are already owned by the big timers. However we can not expect SM to happen in the next 5yrs at least. There is enough retail already to be saturated.

I totally agree. Not because SM bought properties in the City, the Mall will follow. SM has SMDC it's real estate and properties subsidiary, it could be for future site development or buy and sell strategy, no one knows... I guess it's safe not to preempt anything. Let's just wait and hope something better awaits our city.

P100 million Tulay ng Pangulo to be constructed soon in Zambo
Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay (Aug. 4) -- The off-banned Tulay ng Pangulo connecting the Olutanga Island to the mainland will be implemented very soon.
British Engineer Graham Russel with Tulay ng Pangulo Project Director Kagim Jajurie and several provincial officials led by Vice Governor Eric Cabarios visited the area last week to check on the preparations for the construction of the bridge.
In an earlier report, the project cost was estimated at Php 100 million or more at Php P 300,000 per linear meter based on the engineering principle with the use of fabricated steel structures. The bridge will traverse a 320-meter distance from barangay Florida in Talusan to Tampalan in Alicia.
The project will benefit the three island municipalities of Talusan, Mabuhay and Subanipa. Said project will be funded by a grant from England and Spain. (PIA) [top]

Thanks, been telling this to people of Pagadian and Zamboanga. One should understand the history of these malls before they start to speculate how fast they would suddenly appear. Almost everyone mix-up lot purchase with construction right away. We should take note about the planning and permit issuance aspect as well as the leasing/marketing component which will give the project the go ahead.

So, for now, sa Garden Orchid Hotel, Zamboanga City, ang pinakamataas na operational, 10 storeys. :)
Sa mga malls, tingin ko ang Gaisano Mall-Davao at C3 Mall-Pagadian lang ang mayroong scenic elevators. Dunno which is taller between the two though. Mga 5 storeys ata yung naabot ng sa GMall-Davao. Hindi ko alam kung ilang storeys yung sa C3. :)
Sorry din, guys, for the OT. Sinasagot ko lang yung tanong. :)

I'm also sure the politician promised something for this during the election and he should be aware about that problem otherwise how would he be able to cross from the mainland? Unless he took the helicopter....

Itong rankings pala eh HINDI bini-base sa height in feet / meters na naabot ng elevators, bini-base lang diyan ay ang number of storeys na naabot ng elevators. :)
Pagadianongyud November 24th, 2010, 11:18 AM Actually, Zamboanga already has one. Their store here is the first in Mindanao, I guess. :)

nilo= November 24th, 2010, 11:48 AM I'm also sure the politician promised something for this during the election and he should be aware about that problem otherwise how would he be able to cross from the mainland? Unless he took the helicopter....
When i went home (I'm actually from the island) in 2003, it so happened that the incumbent representative of (then lone district of ZamSib) was having her (regular?) visit to the island. I was on a bus from Pagadian bound for Suba-nipa (it is a ro-ro road actually with a single barge plying the 5 minute pass from Guicam on the mainland side to Hula-hula in the Island side) it was possible then because it was dry season and the roads are passable. None including me would dismiss as a wild idea about a bridge on that area because that 2 adjacent wharves are intended for a bridge (or so I heard). I went up to the pilot house before the departure and stayed there until we were advised to get back on board our bus upon the barge's was secured on the other side (pre-departure and mooring to the other side took only 10 minutes). Because madam congresswoman was there also in the pilot house, I had the chance to greet and shook her hand. Now, her son takes her place. I didn't hear any promise of important development projects - they don't have to because the people in the island are the kind who would not vote for someone who can deliver his/her promises on incumbency but someone who can deliver the money on or before election day. They are that irresponsible and ignorant - I should know.

hmmm, maybe for you. but for me, dili nice sa mata ang ingon ana ka saturated nga orange og ingon ana ka saturated nga blue e.. well, its not that bad but if i were to choose the colors i would probably suggest:
less saturated colors... and better if they added base color(milky grey or whatever) to balance everything out.

notice the buildings on 1st world countries, diba wala kay makita na ingon ana ka color (ingon ana ka politcal).. it reflects power man gud and for me its bad.. dapat nag gamit lang sila og natural colors (like the colors of the 1st proposed design).. it looks very unprofessional na nuon.. :( peace guys
how about kamo? unsa may makaingon ninyo sa iyang color scheme?

Are the Cabilaos allied with the Jalosjos clan? In the meantime, Cerilles is fortifying his hold of del Sur, adding another family member to this town where a famous lake is. Maybe you can flood Cabilao's office with endless request for your bridge.

I just do not exactly know about their political affiliations. Yes maybe flood of requests, well a (mere) request may not be that powerful. And I am considering a signature campaign then promptly endorse or forward a copy to our good representative.

The House Committee on Justice recently approved through an omnibus motion, pertinent house bills creating new Regional Trial Courts (RTCs) in various provinces and cities, among which a proposal to create a total of 19 additional RTC branches for Zamboanga del Sur and the cities of Pagadian and Zamboanga authored by Deputy Speaker for Mindanao Beng Climaco.
House Bill 1455 entitled an “An Act Amending Sections 14 (J) and 29 of Batas Pambansa Blg. 129, Otherwise Known as The Judiciary Reorganization Act of 1980”, principally authored by Cong. Climaco calls for the creation of four (4) additional Regional Trial Court branches in the Province of Zamboanga del Sur, and the Cities of Pagadian and Zamboanga with an overall total of nineteen (19) branches.
Out of the 19 branches, ten (10) seats shall be for Zamboanga City, and the remaining seats for Pagadian City, Molave, San Miguel, Ipil, and Aurora.
With the increase of population through the years, the number of cases continues to grow and now clog the dockets of the six (6) RTC and four (4) MTCC branches. Since 1983 up to August 2004, a total of 20,968 cases have been filed with the Regional Trial Court in Zamboanga City, 12,683 of which being criminal in nature.
At present, a total of 3,843 cases are pending with the RTC or at an average of 640 cases per court which is far from the ideal number of cases which is 200 or less. For the same 21-year period, total of 12,586 criminal cases have been filed with the Municipal Trial Court in Cities.
As of Dec 31, 2009, the total pending at the four (4) MTCC is 6,249 or at an average of 1,692 cases per court. The existing six (6) RTC branches and four (4) MTCC branches are clearly inadequate to handle the total case load.
Rep. Climaco responded to the need of allocating additional court branches in Zamboanga City by proposing HB 1455 in which the Committee on Justice has approved through an omnibus motion during the committee hearing last November 10.

I don't understand why our government built another mall yet some of the existing malls are struggling. Was c3 really necessary? Billion naman daw ang utang sa pagadian.

Regardless of the loan, C3 is a safe investment because it's right on the central business district( at the cross-roads) and is intended for mix-use purposes, i.e. shops and offices and it was able to secure a major anchor which is Robinsons. You know, city has to spend money in order to earn more money. The presence of C3 as a landmark commercial bldg. will also drive the confidence of adjacent businesses. However, its up to the owners of existing stores to shift their marketing concept to compete with the new ones. Mind you, Peoples and BE are full service department stores while Rob is only a supermarket. The good thing is these stores are all clustered in adjacent blocks thus people would just hop in and go to the next so theres no danger that one is isolated from the rest. Gaisano can hold its own because the branding is already established long before Robinsons and it has a huge parking to boot.
Jimboy December 7th, 2010, 04:23 PM Congratulations to Pagadian. I just hope that with this boom in the business sector comes the deterring of social crimes in the city.

I see it necessary for the City to open such establishments considering that Pagadian is a developing city, it must really look for investments where it can profit to finance its development and attract businessmen to invest in the city. Because the more investors we have in the city, the more developments will come to us. We must remember that it is (the C3) an investment in the part of the city. Investment in a way that the city will always root some income from it, not only from the rentals, but also the yearly taxes the owners will have to pay to the City Government. Let us not always look at the cost, because cost is just a "one-time" deduction in our budget, but, come few years after this, revenues will be marching perhaps even bigger than the cost of having the building. And for the record, the revenues the city will gain is not a "one-time" revenue, but a yearly revenue.
And to your point about the struggling of some existing malls in the city, C3 is no threat, in fact, the Robinsons present in C3 poses a challenge for them that they must be able to come up with good strategies so that their patrons will not be enticed to transfer to another supermarket. This is the time that they must come up with gimmicks such as "Midnight Sales", "50% Sales", et al so that the consumers will see that notwithstanding to the fact that BE and People's Plaza are just small players when it comes to this type of business, the 2 are still able to compete with the giants. For how many years, they have been monopolizing the city, now is the time for the real friendly or professional competition among the stores and see to it if they can really withstand the competition against other stores.
That's my 2 cents about it.

hmmm, good point.. but considering the consumer population of Pagadian, i guess putting up another mall is not a good option. hmmm, seriously, if things go wrong here because of the C3 threat, some stores might die. dead stores = dead malls, and when a mall closes, it’s hard to start it back up. Consider that you need to reoccupy it with dozens of new stores.. to have a dead mall = bad urban planning.. best example = manila.
pila na diay ka mall ga kumpol kumpol diha karon? peoples, be, gaisano, c3. wow 4 kabook all in one spot.. wala lang, naluoy lang ko sa gaisano kay murag na stuck na jud ilang mga stock didto. di pa gyud gihapon siya matawag na mall.

True, their prices should be more competitive knowing that Peoples Plaza is just a stones throw away while Gaisano is just walking distance to the east and the market to the south. What I find with Robinsons is sometimes they carry hard to find proucts or produce so people won't mind a small price difference because of the presentation and convenience. Example is that nice photo of the giant clams. I bet you would find them cheaper down the wet market but because of the neatness of the presentation and the comfort of the shopping environment, one would not mind the slightly higher price.

You may have overlooked the flight sched... its 5X/week for MNL-PAG sector, nevertheless still fine for PAG notwithstanding of 5J's too little planes, wait for the next airbus to join 5Js fleet, i'm sure they're keeping an eye for additional flight frequency in PAG noting the good passenger turn out there!
Also, wait until the labor fray within PAL settles down… you'll see more birds soaring the skies of Pag then... :)
No MNL-PAG flight on WEDs and SATs... :)

Jimboy December 8th, 2010, 01:29 PM hmmm, good point.. but considering the consumer population of Pagadian, i guess putting up another mall is not a good option. hmmm, seriously, if things go wrong here because of the C3 threat, some stores might die. dead stores = dead malls, and when a mall closes, it’s hard to start it back up. Consider that you need to reoccupy it with dozens of new stores.. to have a dead mall = bad urban planning.. best example = manila.
Consumer population is not a question I believe so. Because for how many years, the consumer population of Pagadian has been increasing dramatically, and tantamount to that, the buying capacity of Pagadianon is increased. I know you've heard of people buying stuffs from Cagayan or Ozamiz or any nearby city because it's nowhere to be found in Pagadian, that goes to show that the buying capacity of the people and the consumer population we have there is quite stable and increasing. And the consumer population would really try to "risk", if I am using the right word, in going to other places just to satisfy their "buying activities".
On my second point, I know Robinsons would not invest in Pagadian if we don't have this consumer population because it will just make their investment flunk. No businessman nowadays would try to invest if they ain't sure about the place they are putting up their business, so the fact that Robinsons had opened a store in Pagadian goes to show again that there is quite a significant number when we talk about the consumer population of Pagadian.
Third, why not we become optimistic about this new establishments opening in our city? At the end of the day, this will not only benefit several persons but the entire city as well. So, let's cross our fingers and be optimistic about the new establishments trying to cater Pagadianons. :)

True that. In cities where the 3 giants are present, it's always Gaisano who has the cheapest and the lowest price. For Pagadian though, Gaisano has one of the not so economical prices in terms of goods that they're selling. With the Robinsons catering the public, hopefully they can lower some price and make it economical, so they can draw the line with regards to overpricing of goods. By that, People's, BE and other small players can compete and participate. People will also have more choices to go to as to where shall they buy goods.

True, my family used to shop frequently to Cagayan and Cebu before Gaisano came in. I haven't heard them going out lately except for the auto parts in Cagayan. Yes, Gaisano and Robinsons would changed the shopping habits of the people of Zambo Sur and Sibuguey from now.

Your point is right as well; education is the best investment, but universities don't just appear from nowhere, it takes more than 20yrs for schools of higher learning to get estabished, even SMC and SCC are still colleges up to now. Malls can get done in 5yrs and C3 will help revive and estabish the downtown business district and will encourage nearby businesses to put up a better face as well. A new imposing building will always trigger the neighbours to do a facelift as well and that will help the whole image of the city. We don't want that rickety old shopping centre to be the focus of downtown right?

u have a good point. i would also want that for pagadian...
as someone who studied away from the city for college, it is indeed very expensive to go to other cities just to go to a good school.
but let's accept the fact that philippine politics is business.
our incumbent is a businessman so let's expect business and alike to flourish above all. it's how they can expertly play.
it gives income to the city and personal pockets (we can't set this aside).
how to sustain an academic institution is also a consideration.
it requires constant updating and advancement of infrastructure, resources and manpower.
i believe there are other state colleges in the city/province. i guess it's better if these existing institutions would establish their name first in the academe and the rest will follow.
status quo: most pagadianon's don't go to schools in the city. instead at nearby cities Ozamis, CDO, Zamboanga, Iligan - where renowned and established academic institution are found.
for the mean time maybe, it's ok to leverage on what our local government knows more, rather than investing on something beyond their expertise. After all, it will be a showcase of accomplishments at the end of their term - regardless of means or result... Maybe if the city has set a higher standards private universities "might" be attracted. Let's see what will happen next.

I don't think the DFA will totally detach itself from Zamboanga City when it transfers to Pagadian. That would be a very stupid, or as you've said, illogical, idea. They would probably have a satellite office, or something of that kind, left in ZC to serve the people from here who obviously comprises the larger chunk of passport applicants in the region.

so where is ur logic coming from?
when in the first place it should be really in pagadian along with all other regional offices AS MANDATED by LAW.
i dont think opening a consular affairs office in pagadian would in effect discontinue zamboanga operation..
and if ever, why can't people from zamboanga go to pagadian to get their passport? if people from nearby towns go to zamboanga for passport processing why not the other way around?
i smell discrimination in your statement.

Jimboy December 16th, 2010, 03:18 PM Hi! Does anybody here know the tariff of Springland Resort-Tru Lab Hall? And unsa inyo ma-recommend nga murag multi-purpose hall nga minimal price lang ang pangayo? Can I also ask about the estimations as per the prices? Thanks Pagadianons!
litigs December 16th, 2010, 04:42 PM I don't think so. Probably they will leave a satellite office in Zamboanga.
@mbell chillax lng :)
You can also take note that the catchment area for these essential government services are Dipolog, Dapitan, from the North and Ipil from the West; these cities and towns are closer to Pagadian. However, DFA will always keep a sizeable office in Zamboanga to attend to the needs there considering that its population is probably larger than those mentioned above, not to mention people from Basilan,Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi although they don't belong to the Region-9. It was a pain before travelling to Zamboanga negotiating the unpaved and treacherous roads; today its comfortable for Zamboangeneous going to Pagadian. So why not? After all, there's already the comforts and choices any urban city can offer, you just have to take a deep breath and enjoy the extreme experience of the tricycles!. By the way, Zambo folks also like to take home Pag's famous chorizo and have an early taste of Robinsons while its still in the making there.

Fahdingding December 19th, 2010, 06:18 AM Merry XMAS Pagadian!
Fahdingding December 19th, 2010, 06:20 AM all of you guys made a good point. but for me, the government could have invested the money for a university rather than a mall.. we have enough malls already, peoples, BE, and gaisano.. well, for our case another mall doesn't really mean more income, but instead more people = more income... and i guess, putting a university will attract people more than a putting up a mall because as we all understand..."knowledge is foremost the most extravagant thing a man has paid for"...
lyk ur point BRO!
Fahdingding December 19th, 2010, 06:24 AM Your point is right as well; education is the best investment, but universities don't just appear from nowhere, it takes more than 20yrs for schools of higher learning to get estabished, even SMC and SCC are still colleges up to now.
Nice ONE!
sternocleidomastoid December 19th, 2010, 04:42 PM Gov Cerilles welcomes participants to the PRISAA regional games 2010 (http://zamboangatoday.ph/index.php/news/13-top-stories/2175-gov-cerilles-welcomes-participants-to-the-prisaa-regional-games-2010-)
Sunday, 19 December 2010 19:34
Zamboanga Del Sur Governor Antonio Cerilles has formally welcomed the participants to the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) ‘Regional Games 2010’ at the YDC Gym of St. Columban College (SCC), Pagadian City.
The games started on December 17 and will run thru December 19, 2010 with participating private schools from the cities of Isabela, Basilan, Zamboanga, Pagadian, Dipolog, Zanorte and Dapitan.
Highlighting the affair was the athletic parade in the downtown area which started from Pagadian City Gym Oval Grounds and ended at the St. Columban College. This was fallowed by the colorful opening ceremonies.
In his message, Zamboanga del Sur Governor Antonio Cerilles, who is a sportsman himself, challenged the athletes to actively participate in sports activities.
“We should think sports for friendly competition among the cities and provinces in the region. May the best men win and hopefully the rest will strive to do their best,” the Governor said.
“The government should do something so that this program should be given much attention – provide financial assistance for sports development,” Cerilles added.
The affair also highlighted the hoisting of the PRISAA Regional Banner led by PRISAA Regional Executive Director Elbert “Bong” Atilano, Sr., Councilors Jimmy Cabato and Rudy Lim representing the City Government of Zamboanga, respective City PRISAA presidents, coordinators and officials.
Philippine Olympic Team gold medalists in the Asian Youth Weightlifting Championship Hidilyn Diaz led the lighting of the Urn of Friendship, while Armand Amatong declared the formal opening of the PRISAA Regional Games 2010.
