Pagadian City Mayor Sammy Co disclosed the other day that two companies, one from Cagayan De Oro City and another from Cotabato City, want to invest in Pagadian as a result of the 20th Mindanao Business Conference held last September 7-9,2011 at the City Commercial Center along Pajares St.

Co said that two officers of the companies talked to him personally in separate meetings and both voiced out their intention to invest in Pagadian.

The company from Cagayan De Oro City intends to open up abranchand the company from Cotabato City want to transfer their company to Pagadian City because of extortion activities from moro rebels in Cotabato.

Co did not name the two companies as requested by the officers.

“Of course the city will give them tax incentives once they will do business in the city,” said the mayor.

On the other hand, Co said that US Ambassador Harry K. Thomas Jr. has pledged that the US government will put-up projects in Pagadian like school buildings and educational equipment that will support the educational upliftment of the country.

Thomas also appealed to the people and local officials of Pagadian City to help the government combat human trafficking and put to jail all human tracffickers who have destroyed the lives of their innocent victims using venomous sweet talks and promises. — Allen Abastillas

kintahay nag buot buot og butang sulod sa C3 ang maong tao? dili sad cguro oi... atong sabton nga dili baya basta basta cguro mag butang diha og tarpaulin sulod sa mall kung walay permiso sa mga nag dumala diha sulod sa C3. think about it! :cheers: sa gawas sa mall like other bldgs pwede ba butang butangan og bisan unsa pwede man gani butangan og sab-we... :D pero diha sulod sa C3? nunca kung wa jamo permiso... timaan na nga daun ang burging Ker... :banana:

You know what? usa raman ang nag pa matuod ani..Whatever establishment is that, 1 reason they will transfer their company here it's because our learders in Pagadian is sincere with the Peace and Order sa city..

Usa sa basihan sa mga big companies kay dili lang man ang population kundi kung unsa ka peaceful ang city... Surely, SM and AYALA are safe in Pagadian..

Congrats Mayor Co and Governor Cerilles for the sincere PEACE and ORDER..

Any small investment is always a welcome development. Sadly, the other one came at the expense of another city across Llana Bay. Cotabato is perhaps one of the cities in Mindanao not enjoying the gains of other cities. Extortion from lawless elements on companies trying to establish and grow is the worst deterrent to a local economy and if taken from a national perspective, will affect the countries global perception.

Yup, they need to finish everything because the crowd of people will potentially damage unfinished concrete and exposed pipes; the pavements has to be completed as well because exposed soil will be unstable if subjected to heavy traffic. The fountain is spectacular indeed. So this is still officially Plaza Luz right?, that's good.

The author since early 2000 maintained that the return of the Regional Center to Zamboanga City from Pagadian is not possible.

The transfer is covered by Executive Order 429 signed by then President Corazon Aquino sometime in 1990.

Let us be realistic so that the regional employees affected will not be misled and continue to hope against hope.

First, the issue is political in nature. Why? Because no President would ever amend Executive Order 429 when the voting population of Zamboanga del Sur including Pagadian City and neighboring Zamboanga Peninsula provinces is over one million compared to Zamboanga City's more or less 360,000 voters.

Zamboanga del Sur has 2 representatives, Zamboanga del Norte has 3 and Sibugay has 2 or a total of 7 against 2 representatives of Zamboanga City.

The 3 provinces mentioned have 3 Provincial Governors, 3 City Mayors, and more than 50 municipal mayors versus 1 Mayor of Zamboanga City.

The number of local officials composed of 1 Mayor and 2 representatives of Zamboanga City to lobby for the return of the Regional Center against that of the 3 Zamboanga Peninsula provinces could be an exercise in futility.

The local officials of Zamboanga City are aware that the return of the Regional Center to Zamboanga City is no longer possible for political reason, so let's stop giving false hope to the people especially to the regional employees by giving them hope that something could still be done which is tantamount to fooling them.

The moratorium issued by the President is merely a “Complimento de Bobo” according to some broad-minded political observers.

I have stated here many times that the irony of this situation is that the present chief executive has to reverse an EO straight from the mouth of his mother. Thats personal and heavy. Political? my only indication is that Western Mindanao Alliance with Jalosjos and Cerilles smiling happily in the picture; perhaps that tells something. Political?, yes again maybe, Cerilles made sure Pnoy gets a landslide in ZamboSur and Pag. Now about the law and constitution, the president can invoke all the executive powers he needs to issue another EO to revert the regional seat to Zamboanga, but then there is the high court that Cerilles(him being a lawyer) can always run to. Im not sure what the background of this Zamboangueno reporter is, but not unless he or she is at odds with Beng then that is another story. However there is a standing memo and that holds the lifeline at the moment so in fairness to the employees, this reporter should have been more compassionate, after all, this a country that believes in miracles. To D_Wade, whether you like it or not; SM and Rob will surely rise regardless of the political status. The regional issue is not a deterrent for these malls for a market on this city with far more purchasing power than humble folks of Pagadian who will have to sustain Gaisano and C3 first. Just be more civilized in our discussions here to maintain order. Thanks.

Btw, Robinsons and SM are not sure unless they started already with construction of their malls. So I think it's not good to boast this kind of things. (IMO)

Pagadian City - Confronted with the problem of out-migration mainly because of lack of job opportunities in the city, local government officials here saw the need to institutionalize the Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

It was in July 12 during the 40th regular session of the Pagadian City Council presided by Vice Mayor Romeo Pulmones when the Committee on Good Government, Ethics and Civil Service passed Resolution No. 2011-0346, “A Resolution approving Draft Ordinance No. 016 entitled: “An Ordinance Creating The Pagadian City Public Employment Service Office (PESO) as a Division under the City Mayor’s Office; Providing Its Personnel Complement; Defining Its Duties, Functions and Responsibilities; and Allocating Funds Therefor.”

Having complied with all the required processes, following the determination of its necessity and practicability, it was enough to merit the council’s final action and approval. Hence, the draft ordinance was unanimously approved as City Ordinance No. 2K11-320.

For his part, the good mayor, Hon. Samuel S. Co then signed Executive Order 132 to fulfill his commitment to help Pagadian job seekers find livelihood and suitable employment.

Under Executive Order 132, the PESO is now a division under the Office of the City Mayor to be manned by competent personnel headed by a PESO Manager, equivalent to the position of Supervising Administrative Officer and other personnel as may be necessary.

However, in the meantime that no personnel can be hired, the same may be pooled from among the qualified employees of the City government or through contract services.

The PESO is tasked to help address the problem of unemployment, lack of skills among the city’s labor force, lack of adequate information on employment opportunities and lack of job placement for job seekers and applicants.

It will serve as a referral and information center for different employment opportunities in the city and outside both in the public and private sectors,
provide a venue where job seekers could explore simultaneously with various employment options and actually seek assistance.

The PESO will likewise undertake skills and enhancement training in coordination with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Tourism (DOT), Pagadian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other government agencies and non-government organizations which have programs to develop human resources.

Further, it will coordinate with various employers in the city and establish linkage with those outside of the city, for submission on regular basis, list of job vacancies in their establishments in order to facilitate the exchange of information between employers and job seekers, and recruitment assistance to employers.

It is also tasked to develop and administer in coordination with the PESO, testing and evaluation instruments for effective job selection, training and counseling, provide employment counseling , career guidance and value development activities.

Lastly it will conduct job fairs and livelihood bazaars in coordination with employers and financial institution.

CFO offers graduate and post- graduate scholarships to qualified professionals

PAGADIAN CITY, August 11 (PIA) – Good news for qualified professionals who wish to pursue local graduate and post graduate studies.
The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) based in Manila is now accepting applications for financial assistance under its educational assistance program dubbed “ Enhancement Training Sponsorship Project (ETSP).
CFO project management division’s emigrant services officer II Christian Harold G. Cruz, during Tuesday’s media forum hosted by the Philippine Information Agency IX at New Roxan Hotel said the ETSP is one of the efforts of the government to enhance the skills pool of the Philippines.
Cruz, along with emigrant services officer Geronico M. Herrera and administrative officer Racquel B. Austria who came from Manila to launch the agency’s communication education program (CEP) were the forum’s guests.
Cruz said CFO launched the CEP to “promote the ETSP to qualified professionals who aspire to pursue graduate and post-graduate studies”.
“At present, there are available slots for teachers seeking to enroll for a new program in General Science, Physical Science, Mathematics and Special Education. There are also slots for Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Speech Pathology (Language and Hearing),” Cruz said.
Cruz said CFO has P17-M enough to fund the schooling of successful applicants. “The applicants will receive P13-15T per semester to pay for their tuition fee,” Cruz announced.
Cruz said an ETSP applicant must possess the following qualifications: 1) Must be a Filipino citizen; 2) Must have completed a four-year bachelor's degree (for Masters’ Degree and Training Program) or Masters’ Degree (for PhD program applicant); 3) Must be of good moral character, as attested by the last school attended or present employer; 4) Must have satisfactory undergraduate grades particularly in subjects under his/her field of study; and 5) Must have a field of expertise or seek graduate education in a field that is included in the current Skills List of the Philippines.

Pagadian’s ‘musical and dancing fountain’ provides awesome entertainment

Thousands of joyous Pagadianon’s converged at the 2 hectare expanse Pagadian City Plaza fronting Rizal monument and braved the rain to watch the official launching of the P10-M worth of world-class attraction-- the “Musical and Dancing Fountain” on Thursday night.

The rain did not show any mercy as showers that began at around 2:00 pm and continued through the 45-minute celebration that started at 8:00 pm and came to close at 9:45 pm when Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jessie M. Robredo concluded his very brief speech.

The rain soaked the crowd but it didn’t dampen their enthusiasm of watching the fireworks display, musical and dancing fountain and the fire dance number from eight sexy and young ladies, and listening to the singing talent of Pilipinas Got Talent season 3 Geo Ed Rebucas.

The audience stood up and cheered enthusiastically as the bombs burst in air and fireworks lit up in brilliant red, green, blue and white colors and followed by the unveiling of the fabulous dancing musical and dancing fountain, whose dazzling dancing waters and lights greatly entertained the spectators.

Robredo in his message said he congratulated Co for successfully launching the project which provided the people an awesome entertainment.

San Fernando mayor Oscar Rodriguez, League of Cities of the Philippines president praised Co and gave him a salute for his performance and being a good leader.

“Gusto ko lang ipabatid sa inyo na saludo kami sa inyong mayor. Isa siyang tunay na lider, forward-looking, may vision at may political will at tunay na nagmamahal sa inyo ( I just would like to inform you that we gave our salute to your mayor. He is a true and forward-looking leader, with vision and political will that loves you),” Rodriguez said.

Mayor Samuel S. Co in his message said the ‘musical and dancing fountain’, the Pagadian’s pride which he envisioned during his first term of office was successfully completed. He attributed the success of the project to the hard work and support of the city officials and employees and to the people.

As a gesture of appreciation for the support of the people to the realization of the project, Co declared to offer to the audience the ‘musical and dancing fountain’ as free starting September 28 from 6:00 o’clock in the evening. (JPA/GCC/PIA9-Pagadian)

2012 Licensure Exam for Teachers set March 11

THE Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced on Tuesday the first Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) for 2012 will be held on March 11.

The scheduled LET will be held in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Pagadian, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga.

According to PRC, all qualified applicants may file their applications in their regional offices in Manila, Baguio City, Cagayan de Oro City, Cebu City, Davao City, Iloilo City, Legazpi City, Lucena City, Pagadian City , Tacloban City, Tuguegarao City, and Zamboanga City.

First-time applicants should file their applications within October 3, 2011 to January 13, 2012; and repeaters should file within October 3, 2011 to December 29, 2011.

PRC said no applicants will be admitted beyond the said filing period. (Sunnex)

Baguio, HK and Pagadian have more or less the same topography. Pagadian might look more like Baguio for now since it doesn't have skyscrapers like those found in Hongkong S.A.R. But I do think location and topography-wise, Pagadian is more like H.K. firstly because they both are situated on a bay, while Baguio is located smack in the middle of Luzon. And besides, Pagadian and Hongkong both have panoramic views of the bay. Mt. Palpalan, if developed can be comparable to Victoria Peak. But of course, we Pagadianons should find some other ways to develop these places or things in such that people from other places can't say that we copied it from such and such places. Pagadian is still a young city and its still finding its own unique identity and home-grown culture,arts,etc. It's good that things are looking up for the city right now and that's the most important thing. :)

PAGADIAN CITY — To ensure clean, safe and sound meat and meat products, the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS-9) encouraged the locals to have their animals buthered in an accredited slaughterhouse.

NMIS9 regional technical director Arturo De Jesus Jr., in Tuesday’s media forum hosted by the Philippine Information Agency at New Roxan Hotel here, said “since then NMIS has been strictly implementing its policy in terms of the management, collection and analysis of data on the number of animals slaughtered, volume and quality of meat produced in all meat establishments in the region.
De Jesus said NMIS, as the sole national controlling authority on meat and meat product inspection and meat hygiene, is strictly implementing R.A. 9296 otherwise known as “Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines” to any person, firm or corporation engaged in the business of slaughtering, buying and selling food animals to provide safe and clean meat for human consumption.

The PPOC formulated security and contingency plans to prevent and prepare from possible clashes of the groups.

Yup, Sunstar says seven dead troops, not specific though how close to Ipil. I think AFP is extremely frustrated due to the standing ceasefire. The ground commanders must be fuming mad; as always the case; the situation in the ground can't be fully viewed if those making decisions are seated in Manila.

Pagadian mayor’s son caught using improvised car plate

MANILA, Philippines—A mayor’s son was apprehended Saturday afternoon for using an improvised car plate (KCY-761) and police later learned that the car registration belonged to someone else.
Lance Co, 17, the son of Pagadian City Mayor Samuel Co, was aboard a black Kia Sorento when Highway Patrol Group (HPG) operatives flagged down the sports utility vehicle for bearing no car plate on the front side and using a rear-side improvised plate.
Co, the SK Federation chair of Pagadian City, said that he was on his way home when the police asked his driver, Nonito Siaboc, to pull over along Edsa in Pasay City.
HPG Area Team Leader SPO1 Bryan Tinao said that the Co’s registration papers do not match the ownership details in the Land Transportation Office database.
Initial verification from LTO showed that the plate number KCY-761 is registered to a certain Cherubic Via, which should be attached to a red Kia Sedona minivan.
“We are here to verify who owns the car, not to harass anyone. There is an obvious discrepancy on what their papers show and what we have in our database. We want to follow procedure in verifying this,” said Tinao.
Tinao also said that Co’s registration documents did not have a dry seal and an expiry date of one month, which would be customary to vehicles granted permission to use improvised car plates.
As of press time, HPG was set to verify other details on the ownership of the car. Tinao said that while the improvised plate might not be on the car theft list, HPG has been Co’s original car plate.
“We will not put our name’s honor at risk just for this car,” said Co. “There must be error in LTO. I know that this car belongs to our family.”

Nice! Perhaps this could be the only villa resort type hotel in the city. Foreign guest would appreciate this more. Actually Springland looks like the same setting except that the building is not immediately adjacent to the pool as you have to go thru the steps to the pool below. That al fresco restaurant by the pool is perfect to lounge around!

MANILA, Philippines - Authorities have imposed a curfew in the entire Zamboanga Peninsula after the military launched air strikes against alleged lawless elements in Payao town.

Senior Superintendent Ruben Cariaga, Zamboanga Peninsula police chief, said the curfew covers the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay as well as the cities of Dapitan, Dipolog, Isabela, Pagadian and Zamboanga.

He said people are not allowed on the streets from 10pm to 5am.

The military earlier said it has captured 3 "lawless elements" after conducting air strikes in Payao town, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Speaking to ANC, Western Mindanao Command spokesman Lt. Col. Randy Cabangbang said the 3 captured lawless elements are members of the group of Moro Islamic Liberation Front leader Waning Abdulsalam. The 3 are now in the custody of the local police.

He said 2 soldiers were killed in the latest operation after a firefight with lawless elements in Payao. He said 6 lawless elements were reported killed and 40 others wounded in the military offensive.

This is the first time I've heard of a curfew imposed in so many years. This sounds like back to the martial law years. The threat of these lawless elements must be that grave that the army and pnp are not taking any chances. Most likely they have detected heavy mobilization of MILF despite of the standing ceasefire. This situation should not be taken negatively as this preventive measure is necessary as security will be critical for the holidays. Don't mind this if it effectively keeps the community safe. Perhaps the military has learned enough from the past incident in Ipil.

^^The curfew only covers the province of Zamboanga Sibugay. Mayor Lobregat already made this clear with TV patrol chavacano. I don't know why the local abs-cbn zamboanga did not update abs-cbn manila. :ohno:
It is always easier to prevent than to fix. These insurgents are trained in combat and has strategies more or less equal with the AFP. They create diversions so as to confuse the pursuing security forces. Then they hit their main objective. Even if the curfew is imposed in Sibuguay only, we should note that local boundaries are physically dileanated. Sibugay is bounded by Zamboanga city ,Zambo sur and del Norte. There is always a spill over effect that's why these lawless groups used this newly created province as their springboard to wreck havoc to grab world attention and pressure the govt into the table again.

^^The curfew only covers the province of Zamboanga Sibugay. Mayor Lobregat already made this clear with TV patrol chavacano. I don't know why the local abs-cbn zamboanga did not update abs-cbn manila. :ohno:

any way lets all pray and be viglant nlng...pero it is also nice na may curfew hour para maiwasan yung gulo and mga bad elements na gumagala
