Bitaw pud. It will all start with the Leaders. Unta, sa Regional Development Council pa lang where they all set, they should unite and work towards the direction of achieving development for the Region. Dapat issues like the Regional Center should be settled with finality already so we can move on.

But on the other hand, competitions among cities now in ZamPen is intensifying already. This is a good thing. However, the healthiness of the competition should be maintained. ONe example is, when Pagadian constructed its dancing fountain, Zamboanga also constructed another. Maybe cities in ZamNorte will follow.

I really appreciate the individual efforts of the cities and provinces, but it should be intertwined with the development of the Region as a whole.

Elegant indeed. But it is now in a new location. They transfered the Town Hall 3 three kilometers from the original location.

Zamboanga del Sur has more than enough supply of rice

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Jan 12 – The province of Zamboanga del Sur has more than enough supply of rice for the year and still sell part of produce to other provinces and cities in the Zamboanga peninsula region.

Provincial rice production coordinator Jose Agad Jr said that last year local farmers harvested some 288,724 metric tons of rice involving more than 68,426 hectares of riceland in the entire province.

In the Zamboanga Peninsula region, Zamboanga del Sur has the widest land area of riceland covering some 34,514 hectares including rain-fed farmlands.

With the full support of the provincial government headed by Governor Antonio Cerilles, farmers are encouraged to adopt the new technology using the organic agriculture which is now being spread out in the province.

Through this technology, farmers are also persuaded not to use anymore chemicals or inorganic fertilizers in their farms.

One aspect of this technology is the so-called rice-duck farming system, which is successfully implemented under the slogan “May Bigas Na, May Ulam Pa.” This method also contributes much to solving our problem on global warming, Agad added.

He also said that majority of the farmers are now engaged in rice-duck farming because through this technology the harvest will be chemical free and safe to eat and it also helps bring back the natural fertility of the soil.

Under this method, ducks feed on leftover or spilled grains and snails living in ricefields. Their droppings provide the natural elements for organic fertilizer right in the paddies.

This year, he said, the Department of Agriculture (DA)is set to provide the province with 558 bags of registered seeds to be distributed and planted by the members of the irrigators association and farmers association.

Then the farmers themselves will produce their own seeds for the succeeding planting seasons.

Those interested in availing registered seeds may visit the nearest Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) in their locality and inquire about the program. (PNA)

Bayog bags DILG's Seal of Good Housekeeping award

Mayor Leonardo L. Babasa Jr. received last Dec 21 another award from the Department of the Interior and Local Government in a simple ceremony held at TIMMULCO Bldg., this municipality.

DILG Regional Director Paizal O. Abutazil arrived in the municipality to award the “Seal of Good Housekeeping” in behalf of DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo who was tied up with the relief operations in Visayas and Mindanao as an aftermath of typhoon “Sendong.” Abutazil came with Provincial Director Abcede H. Asjali, Al Haj, Elmer L. Egama and Rhea A. Romanos, both DILG 9 staff.

Bayog bagged the award for passing the standard of good governance set by the DILG: compliance with the Full Disclosure Policy, no adverse findings from the Commission on Audit, and how the municipal officials run the local government in various aspects.

With this award, Bayog will get P1 million Performance Challenge Fund which Mayor Babasa received yesterday. This means the local government will benefit from the LGSP wherein LGUs will receive more assistance from other national agencies.

The awarding ceremony was also attended by the legislative body headed by Vice Mayor Romualdo Goding, barangay chairmen of the municipality’s 28 barangays headed by Hon. Cesar A. Dela Cruz, President of the Liga ng mga Barangay, department heads and other key officials.

Meanwhile, LGU Bayog received another award from the Zuellig Family Foundation through Jollibee Foundation wherein 200 children from 5 barangays will be recipients of a feeding program which will run for 3 years.

it can be well remembered that after PNOY sat down as President, he authorized the Executive Secretary to order a moratorium on the transfer of the Regional Offices from Zamboanga City to Pagadian. This is anchored on the reason that the matter needs a study. After the study will be released, PNOY will issue an order ruling with finality, what City will host the Regional Center.

In addendum, the Regional Development Council which is composed of Mayors of key cities and Governors of the Provinces passed a resolution supporting the reversion of the Regional Center to Zamboanga. RDC has recommendatory power to the President.

Last jan.10 as I traveled Pagadian to Dumaguete via Molave-Dipolog Access Road.. Good thing knowing that the DPWH has allocated millions of peso in Concreting/Paving the Molave-Dipolog Access Road and it's ongoing by now..

Hoping mahuman na by this year.. If mahuman na, duol na kaayo ang Dipolog ug Pagadian sa usag usa..:)

Mao jud. Nahimo na noon siyang "white elephant". Wa napuslan. The project can add revenue the Municipality. Imagine other municipalities, if you look at their Program of Receipts and Expenditures, they earn million from the revenues generated by the public markets. Local Governments must always prioritize those public utilities that can pour cash into their coffers.

Someone told me last year that the road construction that is part of ZamboSur is still a long way compare to Osmena road works. Can you give me an info how far is the road work progress now?

Take for example ang motorela sa Cagayan, Bukidnon, Agusan, etc., Ang tricy sad sa Zambo na influence ang Isabela, Basilan, Lamitan Jolo ang Bongao, ang Dipolog the same sa Dapitan, Sindangan, and Ipil. Ang trivia man gud ani, ang designer or shop owner kay dating worker sa isa ka shop ra sad.

‘Pasalamat’ festival 2012 a big success

PAGADIAN CITY, Jan. 17 (PIA) –- The 2012 ‘Pasalamat’ festival steering committee chairman Atty. Carlos M. Madarang III on Monday expressed his deep gratitude for the huge success of the week-long celebration of the festival which officially started on January 2-15 with this year’s theme “ Sto. Nino Kadasig sa Pagtoo, Kalauman sa Kinaiyahan, Kaluwasan sa Katawhan”.
Madarang said he was very happy for the support extended by the different committees which contributed to the great success of the event.
“I am very much elated with the success of the festival due to the wholehearted support and cooperation by extended Mayor Samuel Co and from the different committees which composed of the staff from the national and local agencies who gave to this endeavor. “Their support, indeed has inspired and motivated me to perform my duties and responsibilities as chairman of the committee,” he added.

Its about time indeed for the city to build a decent sports complex and a multi-purpose gym that can host big events. The old oval is a pity sight to see, having been put to the sidelines and up for sale. I can understand why the mayor didn't clear up the area but at least when they use this to host Sinulog activities, they could have added some temporary props to mask the old buildings surrounding it. I've seen the same type of event One in Dipolog and Surigao, the condition of the venue made a difference in the photo. I hope the site along the boulevard will make it for next year. By the way, is that concert the international music festival spearheaded by Archie D?, the crowd looks limited; maybe its not free.

I think from Pagadian City kay mga 2-3 hours (correct me if I'm wrong) kay duol man na siya sa Buug diba? Ang Buug usually 2 hours man gud. Pero depende gihapon sa mode of transpo whether public or private.

I am not from Pagadian pero i lived in this place for how many years and kabisado nako hasta ang ubang remote barangays sa Zambo Sur. : Airport to down town PUJ terminal kung mag commute-(tricycle) 20 mins - Terminal to Malangas(PUJ direct) 2-3 hrs with 30 mins-1hr. of waiting para ma puno ang sakyanan. Other mode of transpo. Aiport to bus terminal(Rural transit) (tricke-20mins) Pagadian to Diplahan bus terminal-3 hrs. then Diplahan to Malangas proper (habal-habal) 20-30 mins.

Pero kung mag hire ka private vehicle from airpor to Malangas proper, mga 2 hours lang pero mahal ang bayad.

To boost his eco-tourism program, Pagadian City Mayor Sammy Co said he will put up a baywalk along the city’s coastal areas.

Co said the planned baywalk will stretch from Barangay Puluyagan, San Pedro Fish Port, Santa Lucia, Dumagok, Dapulan up to Bomba.

Good job Jimboy! How can Mabait beach be accessed? Is the sand like Tukuran? first time I've heard of this although I can see some beach outline south of Dao-Dao island. Been thru the white sand bar, about 20min pumpboat ride if I'm not mistaken, its a smaller version of the one in Camiguin. Aside from the "bulad", I think the "chorizo" here is also a famous "pasalubong".

Depende sa dagan. If by Rural Transit, 2 Hours (Pagadian-Diplahan) 10 minutes (Diplahan-Malangas).

If private vehicle, an hour and a half. Kaya ra kaayo.

Good job Jimboy! How can Mabait beach be accessed? Is the sand like Tukuran? first time I've heard of this although I can see some beach outline south of Dao-Dao island. Been thru the white sand bar, about 20min pumpboat ride if I'm not mistaken, its a smaller version of the one in Camiguin. Aside from the "bulad", I think the "chorizo" here is also a famous "pasalubong".

Speaking of chorizo sa Pagadian in fariness known na ni siya ug favorite nako ni sad pang pasalubong. Sa mismong public market ra man ni siya gi himo so we went to the market aron first hand gyod ug maka mura sa price, na shock lang ko kay nakita nako ang isa sa mga manufacturer kay gi diretso lang niya ug galing ang meat (surplus of the sale of the day) direct from the display kanang gi bitay nga wala ma hurot ug kahalin which is exposed the whole day ni wala hugasi ug ang mga sanggkap lang ang nagpalasa. OMG ani diay pag himo nila? since then wala na mi naga palit ani. Suggestion ko lang kay known na man sila unta they should choose a quality meat ug i career na nila ni pag manufacture dili lang kay mga tira-tira meat thats why naa sa mercado ilang factory kay ani diay ang process.

Hello po, thanks! Mabait beach, can be accessed, as far as I can remember, via Napolan, it's located in Bomba, you just have to take the route to Bomba via Napolan.

Akoang family ang nang laag dinha. Lingaw kuno sila. I was there 2 years ago , morag dako kaayo og kausaban since my last visit

I am not from Pagadian pero i lived in this place for how many years and kabisado nako hasta ang ubang remote barangays sa Zambo Sur. : Airport to down town PUJ terminal kung mag commute-(tricycle) 20 mins - Terminal to Malangas(PUJ direct) 2-3 hrs with 30 mins-1hr. of waiting para ma puno ang sakyanan. Other mode of transpo. Aiport to bus terminal(Rural transit) (tricke-20mins) Pagadian to Diplahan bus terminal-3 hrs. then Diplahan to Malangas proper (habal-habal) 20-30 mins.

Pero kung mag hire ka private vehicle from airpor to Malangas proper, mga 2 hours lang pero mahal ang bayad.

Nice! Cerilles has really put more money into this resort since its inception as a private retreat. They didn't mean to turn this into a business but they've been getting constant request from friends to use the place when they are away in Manila hence they decided to turn it into full business. My family has been here many times already on some occasions they hosted but it wasn't as developed like this yet. They control the whole area basically having Jun Enerio as the mayor.

I hope narehabilitate na niya ang portion ng provincial road right after the entrance gate of this resort up to the Lakewood town proper. The last time we visited was in 2009 and the condition was still the same as the time of the then PADAP days. tsk! tsk! so with the provicial roads that connects Lapuyan town and San Pablo town which was reported as 100% completed in the 2006 Contractor's report for list of government projects undertaken.

I hope narehabilitate na niya ang portion ng provincial road right after the entrance gate of this resort up to the Lakewood town proper. The last time we visited was in 2009 and the condition was still the same as the time of the then PADAP days. tsk! tsk! so with the provicial roads that connects Lapuyan town and San Pablo town which was reported as 100% completed in the 2006 Contractor's report for list of government projects undertaken.
I will remind Tony and Auring about that. I can also give some hint on the issue of those supposedly complete roads, I know he has some grudges of some mayors that went to the other side past elections and he can be that vindictive to a point where the poor public are sacrificed, so well see. Talk about politics and slowly Ilang is getting into the picture now as the successor of Sammy?, Gwert and Bemboi may answer this. We( being our family) knows her a lot since childhood and you will be surprised her mom Priscella is a Madarang before she got married to Boy Fernandez. So the grand old man "Inting" or "manager" as we fondly call has the same middle name hence - Vicente Madarand Cerilles. So to summarize, are the Co's still aligned with the Cerilles or going all out against. Perhaps that's why Tony asked my uncle before to run for mayor before but of course he declined. The sight of those well armed body guards surrounding our compound during that visit was more than enough to bear. Ilang can do a good job prepping up the image of the city by cleaning it, as in, tidying it up. Sammy can keep the Chinese coming because that's what he is good at. Unfortunately Cerilles can't speak Chinese and clearly that becomes a disadvantage when you celebrate the lunar new year in the city. By the way, chinese businessmen would grab that lion to dance in their stores to scare evil spirits and bring more cash in their registers. That's why I don't blame Sammy for spending extra cash for such celebration, after all, its giving good welcome and prosperity!

So the rift from 5 yrs ago has blossomed. Unfortunately, this became an opportunity for Jalosjos to penetrate Zamboanga del Sur. This will be perhaps the toughest test for the Cerilles dynasty. Community Leaders for Health Seminar in Bayog winds up

Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur, Jan. 25 (PIA) -- A total of 80 health workers attended the 3-day Community Leaders for Health Seminar which was conducted on January 20-21, 2012 at Glupa Gulian Eco Park, Sitio Quibranza, Barangay Kahayagan, this municipality.

Mayor Leonardo L. Babasa Jr. said Dr. Gretchen A. Dubrico, Municipal Health Officer spearheaded the training with midwives, barangay chairman, barangay health workers (BHWs) and barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) as participants in the 3-day activity.

It can be recalled that the municipality of Bayog was one of the recipients of the Feeding Program package from Zuellig Family Foundation.

Facilitators from the Department of Health – Region IX were: Floro B. Fabe, Edgardo Dirige, Cristobelt D. Bermudez, Mary Jane Bernabe, Rico Saquin and from Zuellig : Derkie Alfonso, Rosh Paloma and Helena D. Lago.

Mayor Babasa said the seminar was one of the requirements of Zuellig Family Foundation to its beneficiaries before they will be granted the feeding program package.

In his welcome address, he said the training was designed for the participants to know their responsibilities in this health program thereby find no difficulties in its implementation and other programs to be undertaken in the future.

Among the topics discussed were : Municipal Health Situation, Transforming Systems to Improve Health for All Filipinos, How to Be an Instrument of Health of the Poor in the Community, and other related topics.

The municipality of Bayog will receive from Zuellig Family Foundation through Jollibee Foundation, a feeding program for 200 malnourished children from 5 barangays which will run for three (3) years. The foundation also committed to supply various medical equipments and other health facilities to six barangay health stations in order to fully serve the rural folks.

Completing the health package is the construction of a half-way house which will cost Php600,000 that will serve as a temporary shelter for expectant mothers and their families waiting for delivery. (BAG/ALT/PIA9-Zambo Sur)

JHCSC-Bayog supports National Greening Program

BAYOG, Zamboanga del Sur, Jan. 25 (PIA) -- The local government of Bayog welcomed the move of the Josefina H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) to support the National Greening Program (NGP) of the government as well as the local reforestation program of the municipality.

Mayor Leonardo L. Babasa Jr. said about five hundred (500) students of JHCSC, along with their instructors planted trees on Monday, January 23 at Glupa Gulian Agro-Tourism Park in Sitio Quibranza, Barangay Kahayagan. The activity is also in compliance with the students’ requirements for the second semester, School Year 2011-2012 wherein each student must plant at least five (5) trees in a semester before they will be issued clearances.

Meanwhile, in yesterday’s meeting with Mayor Babasa together with department heads and key officials, Mr. Pablito A. Matias, Municipal Economic Enterprise Officer and also concurrent Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer disclosed that more than 50 hectares in Glupa Gulian are already planted with trees.

NAGING matagumpay ang kabuuang pagdiriwang ng Pasalamat Festival ng siyudad ng Pagadian sa mahigit isang linggo nang mga kasiyahan para sa kapistahan ng mahal na patron ng Sto. Nino.

Naging highlight ng buong pagdiriwang ang Fluvial Parade at Street Dancing Competition na maikukumpara na rin sa Sinulog Festival ng Cebu.

Di man mapantayan ng siyudad ang iniaalok na premyo ngayong taon ay naging suportado naman ng mga barangay at lahat ng lumahok sa nasabing kompetisyon kahit pa ba gumastos sila ng mas higit pa sa premyong makukuha.

Ngunit ipinangako naman ni Mayor Co na sa susunod na taon, mas hihigitan nila ang premyo ng Sinulog Festival upang mahikayat nito ang taga-ibang lugar na lumahok sa siyudad sa susunod na kompetisyon.

Di pa rin nakakaligtaan ng libu-libong deboto ni Sr. Sto. Nino ang pag-aalay ng panalangin at pasasalamat sa patron sa buong taong biyaya na nakakamtan ng bawat Katoliko sa siyudad.

Buong araw nitong napuno ang Sto. Nino Cathedral Church upang makilahok sa pagsasayaw at pahalik ng patron sa publiko.

Gaya ng poong Nazareno, marami rin ang naniniwala na naging malaking gabay nila sa buhay ang kanilang paniniwala sa Sr. Sto. Nino na sa bawat taon, naging matatag pa rin sila sa kanilang debosyon sa mahal na patron ng siyudad.

C3 really made the difference for downtown Pagadian. Just imagine what was there before, the old shopping centre. Unfortunately the old original buildings are at the foreground in the photo. Those two are actually modern during its time and can be simply refinished to give it a fresh look just like the building where Chowking is taking space.
