pre-1920s --- The present-day Pagadian had its beginnings as a sitio of Margosatubig.

July 1927 --- It became a barrio under the Municipal District of Labangan, Zamboanga upon the implementation of Executive Order no.70


1934 --- The transfer the seat of the Labangan Government to Pagadian was made through the efforts of Director Teofisto Guingona, Sr. who was commissioned by Philippine Governor-General Leonard Wood to find out the possibility of transferring the seat of government of the Labangan municipality to another place. A conference was first held, together with the Datus and the early Christian settlers as the idea of the transfer was at first largely opposed by the Christians. Eventually, a consensus was reached when the designated committee led by Datu Balimbingan of Labangan and with the consent of Datu Macaumbang surveyed the western part of the present area and found Talpokan, a part of the barrio of Pagadian, deemed as a suitable place for such transfer. At the same time, Datu Macaumbang donated 260 hectares of land to Christians who were willing to transfer to the area.


March 23, 1937 --- Pagadian became a municipality through Executive Order 77 due to the eager initiative of then Assemblyman Juan S. Alano, with the Hon. Jose Sanson appointed as Acting Mayor. The Hon. Federico Jamisola was elected as the first officially elected Municipal Mayor after the regular elections. The Municipality of Pagadian was formed by merging the municipal districts of Labangan and Dinas,[14] as a result, making Labangan a district under its former barrio. The newly created town had 19 barangays or districts

Pagadian is now a wifi city

A multi million project that would put Pagadian City in the map of information technology as the first wifi city in the country was launched in a short ceremonial program by the city government here yesterday.

Mayor Sammy Co disclosed in a press conference that Pagadian residents can now avail a free access to global information through wifi technology provided by globe network from 5 in the afternoon to 8 in the morning. The time is intended for the city government not to compete with the commercial internet café in the city.

Co however, stressed that during Saturdays, Sunday and holidays the wifi is available 24 hours with a password “mayorsammyco”.

For its first phase project one antenna was installed for the city government’s department that cost P90,000.00. Each department in the city hall is now wifi ready and that would also provide free access within 2 kilometers radius in the area.

The mayor said that another antenna will be installed at the city government building that house the commercial establishment which was rented by Robinson Department store along Rizal Avenue.

“In two months time the project will be completed and we will be known as the “ first wifi city” in the country.

He said city government spent more than 70 thousand pesos a month for its internet bills and with the present system the city government will be spending only P80,000.00 month.

The mayor stressed that the project would be a vehicle for the city promotions and information that would bring Pagadian City closer to the world.

Unfortunately the state of the city gymnasium and the oval couldn't live up to the events it is hosting, I mean, other cities like Ozamiz, Dipolog, and Surigao have gyms worthy of hosting PBA games comfortably and so goes other major indoor events. In contrast, C3 can host mid-size events more decently and is becoming the de facto convention centre. The city is growing fast and a major large capacity venue has to catch up. I hope the next heir of the throne will put this in place.

Sako lang nahibaloan ha.. Inogbaligya man gud ni mayor ang city oval.. Pero dungog pud nga ibaligyan ang city oval wala daw labot ang city gym kay panindoton man daw na.. Ipa centralize aircondition man daw na nya...:)

University president shot dead in Zamboanga City


ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A university president in Zamboanga City was killed by two unknown assailants at about 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

Sustaining fatal injuries to his chest, Arturo Eustaquio III, the president of Universidad de Zamboanga (former Zamboanga Arturo Eustaquio College), was declared dead by doctors in a private hospital he owns.

Police reports indicate that the victim just came out of his residence in Maestra Vicenta in Sta. Maria on board his motorcycle when two gunmen shot him repeatedly using a caliber 45 pistol.

The Philippine National Police - Scene of the Crime Operatives have found 6 empty shells at the crime scene.

Police have not released any statement on the possible motive of the suspects.

Zamboanga City Mayor Celso Lobregat will have a case conference at the Zamboanga City Police Office.

The family of the victim has asked that they be left alone in the meantime.

The 3rd Engineering District of the Department of Public Works and Highways is looking forward to implement multi-billion road projects for the province of Zamboanga del Sur, this was learned from Engr. Manuel Inoferio lately.

It maybe remembered that Former Congressman Tony Cerilles, now Governor of the Province of Zamboanga del Sur has passed and approved by Congress; Republic Act No. 10016 which converts the Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte-Bayog-Lakewood all of Zamboanga del Sur in Secondary National Highway and Republic Act 10098 also converts from the boundary of Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay to Bayog-Diplo, Kumalarang- Maruing, Lapuyan into Secondary National Road.

According to Inoferio, DPWH has already assumed the maintenance of these roads and that their office is now waiting for the approval of the proposed project. He added that Governor Tony is now lobbying for the concreting of the Sindangan-Bayog-Lakewood road which is 52.904 kms and has the total project costs of Php 1.45 billion while the boundary Imelda, Sibugay-Diplo Kumalarang which also has the length of 78.420 kms and total project cost of Php 1.85 billion.

Inoferio also disclosed that at presstime, they have been very busy preparing the papers as Congresswoman Auring Enerio-Cerilles made a House bill which they hope to become another Republic Act within the year, the conversion of provincial road which traverse the coastal municipalities of Dumalinao, San Pablo, Dinas, Dimataling, Tabina, Pitogo, V. Sagun and Margos to another Secondary National Highways. He said, once converted and appropriated with budget, they have estimated that it this coastal road project will have a total costs of Php 7 billion which is 190.76 kms in length.

Governor Tony Cerilles is hopeful that the first tranche of the budgets for the two approved Republic Acts will start in the early part of this year.

Once finished, Cerilles shared that it will reduce time travel from Pagadian City to Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga City.

Even in emergency situation, travel of patients also shortens going to the Margos Regional Hospital to the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center in Pagadian City.

It was also accounted that this road will also improve the lives of our farmers who had hard times transporting their agricultural products not to mention it eliminate the problems of insurgency by the time these areas will become passable.

Gov. Tony also shared that aside from this, it will also open opportunities for tourism and other boost considering that travellers may enjoy the scenic spots of the province.

It maybe recalled that the Cerilles’ made major contributions in road programs and projects across the province more particularly in the 2nd district where Former Congressman Tony Cerilles represents the 2nd district of Zamboanga del Sur.

It was also in the time of Former Governor Auring Enerio-Cerilles that the agony of Zambosurian commuters to Zamboanga City ended as both the Cerilles’ made representations to Malacanang for the completion of the decade long construction of Pagadian-Buug road.
