Tounsi July 18th, 2010, 06:36 PM Halcrow releases images of award-winning Tunisian project
Halcrow has released concept images of Tunisia’s Les Cotes des Anges project – a unique 219ha waterfront development on the north shore of Africa, which includes a marina and some 2.5km of coastline development
Earlier this year, Halcrow’s master plan concept for the development won the Waterfront Future Projects category at the Abu Dhabi Real Estate Awards.
Selma Hooley, regional director of Halcrow’s development planning and design team said: “Les Cotes des Anges responds to Tunisia’s growth in tourism, while maintaining the country’s history and heritage.
The unique development combines traditional forms of fishing villages with highlights of contemporary design. The development is targeted to become the hub for luxury boating in the Mediterranean, with other activities to ensure year-round tourism trade.”
http://www.halcrow.com/html/news/2009/09_august_tunisia.htm
More infos about the project from Halcrow Group's website :
Located on the north shore of Africa, Les Cotes des Anges covers an area of 219ha with some 2.5km of coastline and includes a marina at the heart of the project.
The development will be a hub for luxury boating in the Mediterranean, with leisure facilities such as a golf course and wellness resorts to ensure year-round tourism trade in line with Tunisia’s national strategy for tourism promotion.
Project manager Michelle Baracho explains: “The vision was to create
a contemporary interpretation of traditional building styles, while respecting the natural features of the site. Creating strong vistas, providing value for traditional architecture and being sensitive to the site ecology have been vital to the overall project design.”
Environmental issues are at the centre of the proposed site and marina layouts. With previous experience of Mediterranean conditions, the team included a buffer zone of a minimum 100m wide along the shore, to allow for ongoing climate change and sea level rise. This will address likely future coastal erosion, reduce the risk of coastal squeeze and enable interaction between the beach and the dunes inshore.
All construction – except the Marina Hotel – will be low-rise, with the marina development designed as a contemporary interpretation of a traditional Tunisian fishing village. Retaining existing vegetation and planting native trees is also a key part of the landscape plan

Tounsi October 14th, 2010, 03:02 AM ‘GFH’s $3bn Tunisia project will become a gateway for $15bn trade between EU and Africa’
http://arabnews.com/economy/article159091.ece/REPRESENTATIONS/large_620x350/eco_gfh.jpg
Taoufik Baccar, governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia, left, with Esam Janahi after the announcement.
MANAMA: The Bahrain-based Islamic investment banking major, Gulf Finance House (GFH), and the Tunisian government have announced the launch of a $3 billion North Africa’s first offshore financial center as part of Tunis Financial Harbour. The mixed use waterfront development will provide the physical infrastructure for the planned offshore financial center.
GFH in a statement said the landmark project Tunis Financial Harbour would offer a bridge between the $15 billion EU trade bloc, Tunisia’s own dynamic economy and rapidly developing North African and sub-Saharan economies.
The formal announcement was made by the GFH senior management and the governor of the Tunisian Central Bank on the sidelines of a reception for financial services institutions and policy specialists held in Washington, DC held during the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) annual meeting. Both parties’ briefed attendees on the project as well as the development of Tunisia’s financial services regulatory environment.
Tunis Financial Harbour will further develop Tunisia’s vibrant economy, by offering world class commercial infrastructure and an array of modern waterfront living for financial services institutions seeking access to the opportunities Tunisia offers as a strategic gateway between Europe and Africa. The development is projected to have a permanent population of 110,000 residents across its 500 hectares and will create 16,000 jobs for the Tunisian economy.
“Tunis Financial Harbour will be North Africa’s first off shore financial services centre,” said Esam Janahi, executive chairman GFH.
“Tunisia’s strategic location means that it is the natural base for a financial services hub to cater for the growing demand for financial products and services created by the growth of not only the Tunisian economy but also African economies and international investment flows into the country. Tunis Financial Harbour will offer a world class centre for financial service institutions to base their operations whilst offering a range of modern, waterfront lifestyle options for employees and residents. Tunis Financial Harbour builds on our strategy of creating the economic infrastructure to support the development of economies and societies across the Middle East and we are proud to be partnering with the Tunisian government to support their national objectives,” he added.http://arabnews.com/economy/article159084.ece

HOSPITALITY COMPLEX BY QATARI DIAR - TOZEUR GATE OF THE SAHARA
Qatari Diar, a property arm of Qatar's sovereign wealth fund, will build a tourism complex in southern Tunisia at the cost of $80 million, its managing director Mohamed al Hadfa said on Wednesday.
The planned complex, which will include a hotel, shopping centre and other leisure facilities, will be completed within two years over 40 hectares in the city of Tozeur - Tunisia's main tourism destination at the gate of its desert Sahara south, he added.
Tourism is Tunisia's top foreign currency earner and its biggest employer after farming.
The government in the North African country is striving to diversify tourism away from its Mediterranean coast into southern areas in the hope of luring more high spending holidaymakers from Arab Gulf countries.
Qatari Diar, which counts London's Chelsea Barracks among its most high profile overseas assets, holds a 45 percent stake in Qatar's Barwa Real Estate company.

LagunaVista January 21st, 2012, 11:44 PM Hi everyone! I'm new on this forum :) I'm a big fan of Tunisia, I love your country & it's great pleasure to see how it develops. I have few questions about hotels in Monastir-Skanes; I noticed on Google Earth a new hotel (?) under construction in Skanes, next to Eden Club hotel. Is it yet open? What is its name?
Another question is: there are 2 ruined hotels in Skanes, next to Prima Life Skanes (ex Chiraz hotel). What happened that those hotels are unfinished? Does anyone know their story? Did they already had names? whether is there a chance that someone will finish it?
ezin February 4th, 2012, 08:26 PM i am from tunisia and i have no idea about that .. maybe you can go to tunisia subforum and put your questions there you can find some answers :)
