View Full Version : Pink's or Nathan's: Who makes better hotdogs?
yamota February 25th, 2008, 03:51 PM Ah the age old question! Who makes better hotdogs, Pink's from LA, or the Coney Island staple, Nathan's? East vs. West. LA vs. NY. They are both really good, but I would have to give it to Nathan's mainly due to it's wider availability.
xXFallenXx February 25th, 2008, 07:06 PM I've never had either. :ohno:
svs February 26th, 2008, 12:57 AM Jeff's
nygirl February 26th, 2008, 01:56 AM Never had Pinks. Nathan's is pretty damn good but I've had better in Chicago. If anything I'm gonna go with the Dogs @ Wrigley Field over both.
I kinda like the philly cheese steaks from Nathans but like White Castle its not something I would plan to go get sober. Its more like something I come stumbling into coney island piss drunk for.
yamota February 26th, 2008, 04:08 AM I would have picked pink's if there wasn't such a long line everytime I go there. It's ridiculous; even at 2 in the morning there's a line there
nygirl February 26th, 2008, 06:06 AM Oh then we got you beat ;) ( I'll need to try it whenever I go back out west)
It may look like theres long lines at Nathans even when it stretches out of the doors in the summer. The thing is it always seems to move at a comfortable pace. Theres like 10-12 people sometimes up there handing you a quality, well dressed dog but rushing you out.
Theres Papaya spots all over the city that you can walk into but they're really wimpy hot dogs most of the time. Cheap as they can get without being free but so is the meat I think. I like dirty water dogs personally because if you can get away with chewing some gum a good while afterwards you can actually burb it up later and its like eatting it all over again but without the added calories.
I still think anywhere in Chicago would be the winner to me. I surrender to the Chicago style hot dog made and being served in Chicago. It is amazing that I can't find a spot in Ny that will make it taste just as good other than my own grilling.
BEATSLIM February 26th, 2008, 07:29 AM theres a chicago hotdog spot i hit every now and then in long beach...best hot dogs ive ever had. the other stuff on the menu is great too...

HEY HEY HEY! That's one way to shut the old man out! Print so fucking small I can't read it!
yamota February 26th, 2008, 03:45 PM Although I hear that Nathan's hotdogs will soon be available in vending machines. We got one here at the office and hopefuly it'll have Nathan's hotdogs in there soon

Its not small to me. Does it look smaller than normal print to you? On my computer it shows up just a bit bigger than the normal print. I used size 1.
nygirl February 26th, 2008, 07:45 PM Chili cheese fries and 2 hot dogs with mustard and kraut from Coney Island's Nathans.

yamota February 26th, 2008, 08:05 PM aw man, now I have to go out and get a chili dog from the street vendor at the corner, and it's raining! :D
svs February 26th, 2008, 09:55 PM Although I personally prefer Jeff's, there are plenty of Nathan's here in LA. There is never a line for Nathan's while Pink's is usually half way around the block. I guess that's a vote for Pink's.
yamota February 26th, 2008, 10:02 PM Pink's should definitely think about franchising. Think of all the money theyr'e missing out on by just being at one location!
milquetoast February 27th, 2008, 09:27 AM Pink's Hot Dogs
What is it?

People lining up like a Chinese Great Wall for hot dogs?
Are you insane?
Not mentioning the end of the line is like way over there in the back of the parking lot.
One hour and ten minutes was the exact time where I first sat my foot on the parking lot, till my growling stomach received the first bite of heaven.
It might sound crazy, but Pink's Hot Dog is something that definitely worth waiting for.
Let me show you the food so you can get a better idea of what I'm talking about-
http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee192/trolltoast/pinkshotdog7.jpg
Mullholland Drive Dog
(10 inches hot dog topped with grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, nacho cheese and bacon),
The Planet Hollywood Dog
(Polish dog topped with grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, bacon and cheese),
Chili Cheese Fries,
Onion Rings with homemade Bar B Q Sauce.
I don't think any ordinary dogs can beat that!
Especially the Polish dog, you can choose between regular or spicy, of course I picked the spicy one.
Man it was spicy, if Food Monger says it's spicy, it's fiery!
Pink's Hot Dogs has been in the business since 1939,
I wasn't even born yet,
Despite the time has changed, I believe the flavor just getting better and better,
Come try it yourself!
What? You don't wanna stand in the line for hot dogs?
Just stop by either early in the morning (after 9:30 a.m.) or late at night (around 2 or 3 a.m.),
You might be lucky finding yourself waiting for less than 30 minutes for these goodies. foodmakesmehappy.blogspot.com

They have at least TWO! One here at The Planet Hollywood Resort http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee192/trolltoast/pinks_img.jpg
nygirl February 27th, 2008, 07:19 PM Wow. Pinks looks really good. Milk I damn near had a heart attack after looking at that pic. Someone email me some damn pinks hot dogs.
VZN February 27th, 2008, 07:23 PM Man, I can't believe that I've never been there! Those chili-cheese fries look heart-cloggingly good... I usually stay away from hot dogs, but I'll have to make an exception in this case.
xXFallenXx February 27th, 2008, 08:24 PM I could feel my arteriNoostairzes clogging just looking at that picture.
I. NEED. PINKS.
Noostairz February 27th, 2008, 08:27 PM Nathan's all the way.
xXFallenXx February 27th, 2008, 08:31 PM :applause:
yamota February 27th, 2008, 08:58 PM There a Pink's at the Planet Hollywood Resort in Vegas?
CITYofDREAMS February 28th, 2008, 08:56 PM I will go with Pink's because that is the only one I had... however I hate the line. Takes forever especially if you are really hungry.
yamota February 28th, 2008, 09:59 PM Well, they do say that standing in line at Pink's is part of the LA experience, whatever that means. To me standing in line is standing in line, be it at Pink's or the DMV or the bank or the post office. But I have to admit the payoff at the DMV is not quite as delicious as Pink's.
svs February 29th, 2008, 12:51 AM Courtesy of Franklin Ave.
Given how long the line usually is at Pink's, I can't imagine what it's gonna look like this Friday and Saturday, when free regular dogs -- with or without chili -- are passed out to the first 500 customers.
It's part of a promotion for Fox's upcoming new comedy "Unhitched." (From the Farrelly Brothers.)
I can't vouch for the show -- but I can vouch for free hot dogs.
First 500 on Friday, Feb. 29 and Saturday, March 1 will be offered one -- limited one per customer, while supplies last.
Epicentre February 29th, 2008, 02:34 AM There a Pink's at the Planet Hollywood Resort in Vegas?
I'm pretty sure it's a Nathan's there. But if we're comparing, since i've had both in their hometowns...Pinks.
milquetoast February 29th, 2008, 04:50 AM Since I'm here in Vegas, would you like to put money on it?
yamota February 29th, 2008, 03:29 PM I think what happens is, they *sell* Pink's hotdogs at some restaurant in PH hotel, but there's no actual Pink's store. I know for sure there's a Nathan's at the Luxor. It's in the fast food area on the 2nd level right next to King Tut's tomb. Funny though, you'd think there'd be a Nathan's at the New York New York but there isn't.

i think i saw a Nathan's at MGM Grand, but I am not entirely sure.
yamota March 1st, 2008, 03:00 AM Hmmm, I think the last time I was at the MGM Grand was last year for a Manny Pacquiao fight, but I don't think I noticed a Nathan's there, but then again I really didn't do that much exploring.

AlexTheMartian March 1st, 2008, 09:44 AM Yeah, the one i saw in MGM Grand was not a Nathan's place, more like a cart in the food cort selling it, lol
raymond3000 March 2nd, 2008, 06:01 AM PINK'S is garbage its low crappy school cafeteria style chili is just gross, shit even in NY I hate GRAY's PAPAYA. So, Im gonna go with COSTCO 's dogs YAY!! lmao u gotta use relish, ketchup, deli mustard, kraut and onions. best thing ever I wish they had chili and cheese though.
CITYofDREAMS March 2nd, 2008, 07:28 AM ..and for $1.50 including soda who would complaint...
yamota March 3rd, 2008, 03:51 AM Now that you mention it, the dogs at the Burbank IKEA are pretty good too, and they're pretty cheap as well :)
Manila-X March 3rd, 2008, 08:48 AM I tried both but I'm gonna give it to Pinks for this one. I like their mushroom swiss dog.
Good thing though they now have it in Vegas.
SIC March 23rd, 2008, 01:11 PM HOT DOUGS!!!
The dogs at Wrigley suck NY Girl...I have no idea what you're drinking when you're there but I want some too. Visit Hot Doug's on a weekday before or after lunch for the wait isn't too great. It's gonna be ok...Doug will steer you straight.
nygirl March 24th, 2008, 06:28 PM Well I'm not in Chicago so I must settle for the dirty water dogs they pull out of giant toilet bowls on the streets of Manhattan.
Anyway I just saw this special for hot dogs on the travel channel and Pinks was the focus through a good part of the show. I've never had a Pinks hotdog in my life. I've never even heard of Pinks, but I cn tell you just by looking at the dogs on tv that its b etter than Nathans.
Westsidelife March 26th, 2008, 06:41 PM ^ Hot Dog Paradise?
nygirl March 27th, 2008, 12:53 AM I have no idea until I taste. I like throwing some brats on the grill and just whipping it all up myself.
