View Full Version : VILNIUS | "Arfa" | 100m | 29fl | On Hold
Dompcz February 27th, 2008, 05:02 PM Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce "Arfa", the fugly beast which will live in NCC of Vilnius. It's U/C and already has two floors. It seems that Lithuanian forumers tried to hide this creature from you, but we can't hide it forever, so here you have it. :)
"Arfa" will be finished at the IV quarter of 2009. It's being U/C by construction company "Vyrokas". They have plans to build one more tower in the same area. Though most forumers at miestai.net hope that their plans will not be realized and they will go bankrupt. ;)
Architect Vladas Treinys.

Þróndeimr February 27th, 2008, 05:15 PM :ohno: How could you guys do this to us... :D
Great building, looking really nice, and U/C, its quite a surprise!
Keep the thread updated with u/c photos from now and then! :)
ch1le February 27th, 2008, 05:34 PM GREAT BUILDING, LOOKING REALLY NICE? WHAT THE HELL CHRISTIAN SHAME!
Þróndeimr February 27th, 2008, 05:45 PM I like the structure, but looking at the real version i see they are using the wrong material on both the walls and glass as it looks really dark.
Nõgesh February 27th, 2008, 05:52 PM Not that good, it seems that they are trying to resemble that semicircular building next to it, ah and this green material they are using, it looks awful..NCC would look a lot better without this one.
whatever... February 27th, 2008, 07:53 PM :wallbash:
mlm February 27th, 2008, 09:56 PM Is the old building with the Samsung logo on top going to be renovated or torn down? That's the biggest eyesore in this thread if you ask me.
Not saying that the new one is a beauty...
Muthai February 27th, 2008, 10:16 PM I got to be honest with you. This building looked bad on the renderings, but with a small pontential of being okay if they would succeed with getting a really nice finnish on the facade. But now it looks like they didn't. It's awful, really. The black facade may be passed in my book, but the green part doesn't work.
The only thing that may save this building is if they would make a really good light settings. The potential of great lightnings is quite big because of the curved shape. Unfortunatelye will be daylight with the lightning unable to viel it...

I agree 100% on both points. :okay:

Will be renovated by same company.
_keen_ March 1st, 2008, 10:26 PM Hideous. We should protest this publicly.
Ingenioren March 11th, 2008, 02:55 PM Both the Samsung and the U/C building are pretty interesting buildings with soul=) + they're tall! No reason to fight that=)
Vecais Sakarnis March 12th, 2008, 06:13 PM I don't see what's so ugly with this building. Of course, it's not the beauty, but not the beast also. With some small improvements it could look even very OK. I like the half-round shape and it looks massive and urban.
Dompcz March 12th, 2008, 06:34 PM While such buildings as Hansabank, TEO, National gallery and maybe Vetruna towers are a + for NCC this one is quite a big -. It should be built somewhere in far commie districts of Vilnius but not in the city center.
Nomels March 15th, 2008, 02:50 PM Smashing, I like it a lot. Great addition to the skyline.
Woodstock88 March 19th, 2008, 02:46 PM Should be a nice high rise! in Vilnius :)
Svajoklis March 22nd, 2008, 05:14 PM To be honest all of the buildings in the NCC are fairly cheap looking + hideous, so I don't see what problem people have specifically with this building!
Dompcz March 24th, 2008, 12:16 AM ^^ Actually it's hard to even compare for example Europa complex, Vetruna towers, Hansabank, Teo, Prosecutor's office to this random shape poor quality new commieblock. I think you should visit Vilnius someday to see it yourself.

I do not understand why few people here think it is ugly. Can I ask you to explain in more detail what is ugly about it?

The company is constructing this building from almost the start of New City Centre it self. The design was really great but it has been changed numerous of times, every time adding something "strange". The green roof has been added. The white glass has been introduced. A year later a middle tower has been added, and now this last version. This building has a reputation as being delayed and changed everytime. So I guess this would be the reason why so many people are so negative about these changes and the building design it self.

If not, why can't it be demolished or covered with a commercial or smth? :)

To expensive to demolish when they could use that money to build it a little more.
Huan-Carlos January 13th, 2012, 01:21 PM Does anyone have information about this building? There is no workers, materials and machinery on the construction site.
Finished so far:

Index_LT January 13th, 2012, 08:14 PM The company that was building it went bancrupt so it might stand unfinished for quite a long time...
