View Full Version : SYD - Meritons new RHODES scraper>>
CULWULLA September 9th, 2003, 11:55 AM Im curretly working on a model of the Rhodes Peninsula. The master plan is being refined and DA's are now being lodged. Meriton have a few of the blocks on the southern side of the Rhodes Railway station on Homebush Bay.the large development is the first to be developed at the north end of site as precinct C. It covers a whole block and rise to 11 storeys/36m. Its a great design with large voids and central courtyard.
GSA are the architects.

Who do you work with c_c? Are you moving into the Australand development or the Lang Walker one?
climbing_crane September 10th, 2003, 03:33 AM UNISYS is moving out there. I know the building because I've been taking pics of it's construction. Not sure which company is building it, probably Lang Walker.

UNISYS are going to the Australand development called Rhodes Corporate Park, where they will be moving into about 8,500 sq.m of space in a six storey building (total building space is 12,000 sq.m).
Cool stuff! That corporate park is huge - 92,000 sqm of space when complete - here's a rendering:

climbing_crane September 10th, 2003, 07:22 AM They got a pool there as well. Nothing much to do out there at lunch until they put all the shops in, which is years away.

Actually, Rhodes Waterside (the Lang Walker development) will have a 3 storey 50,000 sq.m shopping centre located just on the other side of the railway line. It will be part of a town centre development and include an IKEA store five times larger than the one at Moore Park!
Anyway, the retail centre is due for completion mid-2004.

Fabian September 10th, 2003, 10:03 AM I'm not sure how good the design is. It looks a bit strange.

It looks a bit strange in nature with the voids and the overhangs. I cannot really decide whether or not this makes the scraper good or bad.
SydneyDude September 10th, 2003, 10:35 AM far out looks like big business is heading to spacy green corpotate parks!
CSC (employs 4000 people nationwide) have just moved into their new building @ macquarie park. the building is 6 storeys and its HHUUGGEE!! Macquarie park and surrounding areas are just exploding and this will continue with the 3 subway stations opening in that area in 2 years.

Ah well, always nice for a change in the usual design I think - different design helps to establish a character for a neighbourhood, which is quite a good idea when you're developing a whole new neighbourhood from the ground up!
CULWULLA September 10th, 2003, 01:06 PM I think its a fab design! its changed again since the above pic. The butterfly plantrooms have gone. I love the voids and 20m columns rising up the cut outs.GSA are good architects, there responsible for all the bldgs at ACI site - Moorepark.
CULWULLA September 15th, 2003, 03:34 PM heres some pix of the model ive just completed of the walker st DA .

Fabian September 15th, 2003, 10:33 PM It reminds me a bit of Acradia at Ultimo with the open space in the middle and the voids which gave it a fab look.
CULWULLA January 31st, 2004, 10:19 AM bump
Fabian July 9th, 2004, 01:04 PM I'll bump up the thread with some news relating to work on the site which I read in a local rag this week. The site is currently being cleared of toxic dioxin and is being moved to the Union Carbide site where it will be treated by a closed non -incineration system. Locals aren't too impressed as the dioxin is believed to cause illness and cancer if treated this way.
CULWULLA April 20th, 2005, 07:09 AM im sure i saw this from highway the other day and it was complete?
looked good
