View Full Version : Corpus - Rollin it Down Ocean & Shoreline

After my hearing today, I needed a good buzz so I cruised down Ocean Drive and Shoreline Blvd in CC. Began near CC A&M and finished up at the convention center and Heritage Park.
(Yes I know there's a smudge in every shot. I didn't notice the lens was dirty until I got back to Houston. Also, there are only a few people about because it was mid-morning and presumable the kids were in school [except the skateboarders] and the adults were working [except me]).

And ofcourse, the old Nueces Co. Courthouse. Sadly, it continues to sit there abandoned:

I've never been so disappointed in a city as I was in Corpus. There is sooooo much potential there for a great beach community and nice condo development but the whole town seemed so economically depressed. Of course, I had just been to Gulf Shores a few weeks before my trip to Corpus, so maybe I was setting the bar too high. The beaches there were a sad sight.

Thx guys.

Yeah, GT, CC's beaches are not as nice as the eastern Gulf beaches, but it's pretty good for a Texas beach. SPI further south is a bit better.

I've heard South Padre is pretty nice and is as good as it gets for Texas beaches. I've never made it down there but I hope to go one day.

Like I said, I had just gotten back from being on vacation at Gulf Shores and had fresh visions of the powder white sand and crystal clear blue water. To be driven out to the brown dirty beaches and murky water at Corpus was quite a disappointment.

I don't know how the sand in the Gulf Shores/Pensacola area is so white... The beach in Galveston and CC looks dirty, as does the beach in Clearwater, Florida when I was there last.

How can the northern Gulf have such nice beaches, while the eastern and western Gulf have such unattractive ones? I've never been to Ship Island, but the beaches in Biloxi and Gulfport aren't too wonderful (but that's Mississippi Sound and not the open Gulf).

Corpus Christi as a city looks interesting, though, and worth a visit.

We can thank the missisippi River for the dirty water.

It's the quartz content in the sand that makes the northern Gulf Coast beaches so brilliant white, they are just in a geological sweet spot. There are few other places on earth with sand like that. Thank the Appalachian Mountains for that one.
