it taste more like a white rum :) during our time, this product was not even bottled. :D you buy it in 20-liter containers, gallons or pitchers. some chinese stores put in some herbs, raisins, age it, and voila you have the local drink with a great punch called - "SOM"

Amo ba sir? patented naba ini sija na product sana may BFAD license na jaon? may posibilidad baja sir na ma known an surigao being producer of organic wine. :)

i agree! and i think with all the investments we have today, expect for more good things to happen.

The mining industry is top of them... :)

well indeed it is more like the mining industry in the province is going for better days ahead. on top of the list are: the sumitomo investment in claver, red 5 and philex in tubod and several others.

but here in the city what is visible as the latest surge in business investments are small retail boutiques selling imitation goods from HK and thailand, the usual ukay-ukay, korean & taiwanese stores, lechon manok here, there and everywhere, and a horde of pawnshops. :)

as far as i can remember GR or gigaquit rhum is known in the dialect as paoroy. i believe there was a latest assistance extended by DOST to help local producers standardize their production and packaging to make the product more marketable. :)

as for "som", well its more like a home-based affair. i dont even know if it is still available nowadays. my sweet and more like bitter memories with this beverage was during my college days when i brought our own paoroy/som, a guy from leyte their bahalina and a bicolano also with their lambanog. just imagine the results after the spree ended. :D

that i dont really know. it seems like that the arrangement is the local partner provides the space and the other one owns the franchise. hence, those other branches that are still open are probably owned by the franchise holder himself while the "main" one fronting luneta is where they have a partnership.

the last one i heard is another korean cell phone shop is eyeing the place. i hope it will be a different one or the donut will just reopen. :)

he is the one who ran for councilor, the one who operates that travel agency near aguilar store. sorry, i dont have any updates, i just heard that news on the radio morning news. :)

but from the looks of it, from the feedback coming from insiders regarding the way this new admin is running things @ city hall in their 1st 2 weeks, i am not expecting too much or anything great. maybe they will surprise us, who knows. :D

according to those who attended, the mayor's representative in that meeting did not even understood what the tourism council is all about, esp. its being a private entity considering that the lady presented a draft executive order mandating who will occupy the positions/officers of the council.:lol:

according to those who attended, the mayor's representative in that meeting did not even understood what the tourism council is all about, esp. its being a private entity considering that the lady presented a draft executive order mandating who will occupy the positions/officers of the council.:lol:

it's so STUPID that those personalities can spent millions just to be in the positions and after that, WHO CARES WITH ALL OF THESE THINGS TO BE CELEBRATED? WAYA PA AKO KABAWI!!!!!!!!!!! :bash: :bash: :bash:

if sakto ang istorya: can you imagine of sending someone to represent in your behalf and yet he/she dont even know what he/she is representing for? bagan tagbuang ra man kita ini hahahahaha aw hinoon mga buang man sab siguro kita hahahaha

^^ from what i gathered, the space is already for rent. :) it seems there is a management issue here between the partners. so if my mole is right, then it will no longer be mr. donut once a new lessee comes in.

Sad to hear such negative news however if the rumors is true while the new lessee bring us new surprise then it would be alright.....i hope orange brutos will occupy that space

2P to fly Cebu- Surigao
Flight starts Nov.1

July 22, 2010

Airphilippines Express is flying to Surigao by November. The Cebu-Surigao-Cebu flight begins on November 1, 2010. Meanwhile, a second daily Q400 flight for Manila will also commence operation on the same date.

It will leave Cebu for Surigao at 9:20 a.m. and arrive at 10:20 a.m. with a return flight expected at 10:40 and arrival at 11:40 a.m. The second daily Manila flight will fly in the afternoon for Surigao at 1:30 p.m. and arrive at 3:10 p.m. Its return flight to Manila is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. with arrivals at 5:10 p.m.

Airphil Express intend to double its market share with the arrival of five more airbus A320 to their fleet, with one joining in September and two others in October and November.

The merged airline, formerly Air Philippines and PAL Express, added new flights by re-introducing Cebu, and Davao yesterday July 21 in an effort to consolidate its market position.

“Cebu and Davao is vital to our development if we are to grow as a respected budget airline" says Maria Rodriguez Java, the airline's head for Marketing, Product and Media.

"We will increase the number of frequencies for Cebu and Davao later on as we are expecting more aircraft to join our fleet this year,” adds Java.

Airphil Express will fly daily from Manila to Cebu at 9 p.m. and Cebu to Manila at 10:40 p.m. An additional two flights will be opened on Oct. 1 and another one starting Oct. 28.

The airline will also start flying to Legaspi and Tagbilaran in October and Zamboanga by November. Meanwhile, new domestic flights are being planned for General Santos, Tacloban and Dipolog. Flights to Dumaguete, Pagadian, and Butuan are also being considered.

"The new routes are being evaluated right now. There are just too many unserved markets like Pagadian for example. We need to be where the people need us,” she added.

International flight from Manila to Singapore will start operating this year and Cebu to Singapore by next year. Also on the planning stages for next year are flights for Manila to Hong Kong, Seoul, and Japan, while Kalibo-Incheon is also being considered.

The airline currently operates a fleet of 2 airbus A320's, 5 Bombardier Q400' and 3 Q300's planes that flies to 24 domestic destinations from its Manila and Cebu hubs. They are currently on the fourth spot after Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines and Zest Airways.

With its re-branding in March and aggressive no-frills campaign, Philippine Airlines’ low-cost unit intends to at least double its market share at present 8 percent by the end of the year.

They should learn the basic principles of a responsible journalism because this time around lot of media personalities are also corrupt, one sided etc.

most local media practicioners, esp. those on AM radio are paid hacks. some are disguised to be real journalists but actually they are AC-DC. attack-collect, defend-collect :D

instead of developmental journalism, what we have here is "envelopmental" journalism. :D

i apologize to surigao city people kung naoffend ko kau, pero icompare ang butuan city to surigao with regards to income as what the AIm people used in their survey, mukhang malayo, butuan's income for 2009 is almost 1 billion pesos na , the biggest in the region and comparable to gensan and zamboanga ,

boknot
July 26th, 2010, 05:05 AM
^^ its ok sir. if we indeed look at LGU income which is the basis for city classification, there is a big disparity since in 2009, surigao's income is only about half a billion pesos. butuan is even the regional center of caraga.

but LGU income may only form part of the overall rankings done by AIM since the cities competitiveness ranking project focused on the following areas:
- cost of doing business
- dynamism of local economy
- human resource and training
- infrastructure
- LGU responsiveness
- quality of life

whatever are the indicators under each area or how they measure it is something i also would love to know from them. :)

no harm done. it's just a matter of knowing of how it was being done and knowing them i think thy're not stupid enough in coming out with this survey without proper basis and that is something that i would love to know.

this may still be exploratory level like what they did in the early 2000. they went as far as pagadian during that time then. their most probable targets for Big R establishment may be butuan and tagum in the next few years. may be the results will be better for surigao this time and will lead them to do full blown market study later on.

this may still be exploratory level like what they did in the early 2000. they went as far as pagadian during that time then. their most probable targets for Big R establishment may be butuan and tagum in the next few years. may be the results will be better for surigao this time and will lead them to do full blown market study later on.

Big R is good enough for Surigao at the moment.....mall maybe after few years once mag full operation na an sumitomo and other mining companies and tourism growth is also a plus factor.

Surigao City residents frown at water supply

by Roel N. Catoto

Surigao City (July 27) -- Prolonged inadequate water supply from Surigao Metropolitan Water District (SMWD) last week has forced hundreds, if not thousands, of city residents to fetch water from neighboring barangays for their immediate consumption and daily use.

In some high ground areas in Barangay Washington, particularly in the Capitol stretch, Pag-asa Hills and Silay Hills, residents were fuming on the lack of water supply which ran for over two weeks.

Also not spared from the water shortage was Barangay Taft, an urban barangay which has the biggest number in terms of population, where residents would berate SMWD personnel. Its most affected areas were Espina Village and the hilly portion of Talipapa.

In low-lying urban barangays such as Luna, Sabang, Rizal and San Juan ? they suffered from a low water supply.

Joel Tudtud, a resident of Payawan I, Barangay Luna, said they have to wait for 11 o'clock in the evening before they could start filling in water on their containers because only at that time when water would start flowing from their faucet and would stop at around 5 or 6 in the morning.

"This is an endless problem of our city. Every year we face the same problem especially during the dry season," Tudtod commented.

On the other hand, Laurice Congreso of Espina Village, Brgy. Taft, involuntarily found herself buying water at a costly price of ten pesos for every container with a capacity of 16 liters.

Her neighbors who ventured in fetching water from as far as Sitio Bioborjan in Brgy. Rizal, approximately 8 kilometers away from the city proper, found the same tedious and energy-sapping.

In a related development, City Mayor Nitoy Matugas and Governor Sol Matugas have demanded an explanation from the management of SMWD in connection with the water shortage which rocked the city populace.

The duo said they would call the attention of SMWD so it could immediately find a solution to ease out the problem.

City residents have noticed that during every heavy downpour of rain in the city, the SMWD would usually cease in providing potable water to the consuming public because the liquid accumulated in its reservoir would turn murky which could be dangerous to human health once consumed.

SMWD General Manager Benjamin Ensomo, Jr. recently urged the public to save water at night because on that period the pressure was definitely faster due to low usage as compared to day time. (PIA-Surigao del Norte)

“P-Noy” assures Nitoy of support

President Noynoy Aquino or otherwise known as “P-Noy” recently assured Surigao City Mayor Ernesto “Nitoy” Matugas of his full support in connection with the latter’s development programs which will benefit his entire constituency. The assurance was made by the country’s chief executive during the duo’s meeting in Malacañang Palace on July 19, 2001, it was learned.

“P-Noy” is the moniker chosen by Aquino which means Pangulong Noynoy - in a humble intention to identify himself with the masses by combining the Filipino translation of his position with his nickname in order to come up with a moniker with “mass appeal”.

Aquino likewise encouraged Nitoy to call his office anytime that the latter would need help especially on problems which could not be solved on his level. The president told the same to the city mayor in the presence of newly-elected national officers and members of the League of Cities of the Philippines who paid a courtesy call on the chief executive in Malacañang Palace, it was gathered.

In an exclusive interview with this writer, City Mayor Nitoy Matugas expressed his gratitude to the readiness and sincerity of the President in helping his administration deliver developmental programs for the welfare of the Surigaonons. He made known his appreciation of the President’s offer of assistance and likewise his readiness to seek membership under the latter’s political umbrella which is the Liberal Party.

“President Noynoy has a soft spot for Surigao City and is keen on helping us in our programs that will promote the general welfare of our people. He is definitely a role model. We are all ready to join his party because we see in him the realization of our dreams to transform Surigao City into a city full of hope, opportunities, development and progress,” the city chief executive explained. “LOVE IS LOVELIER THE SECOND TIME AROUND”, Matugas rejoins Liberal Party
at Tuesday, July 27, 2010

0
diggs
digg
Reelected Representative Francisco Matugas (1st District, Surigao del Norte) recently found himself home again after he took an oath of allegiance as a member of the Liberal Party (LP) together with Representative Guillermo Romarate, Jr. (2nd District, Surigao del Norte), another reelected solon, in simple ceremonies held at the Liberal Party Headquarters in Quezon City, Metro Manila, on July 21, 2010.

The adage “Love is lovelier the second time around” has proven itself true with Matugas’ homecoming to President Noynoy Aquino’s political party of which he was a pioneering member representing the province of Surigao del Norte. He was recently invited to rejoin the group by LP Chairman Sen. Franklin Drilon, LP President Mar Roxas, LP Secretary-General Florencio “Butch” Abad, former Bukidnon Congressman Neric Acosta including President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino.

It was in 2004 when Cong. Matugas took his first oath as LP member together with more than a hundred local political leaders in simple ceremonies held in the town of General Luna, Surigao del Norte, the country’s surfing capital. They were sworn in as LP members by Sen. Franklyn Drilon, while then Senator Noynoy Aquino and former Congressman Butch Abad witnessed the occasion.

In 2007, when the local elections were then approaching, Matugas tendered his formal resignation from LP citing as reason his intention to join the KAMPI party of then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Senator Franklyn Drilon who was LP President at that time refused to accept Matugas’ resignation but still allowed him to affiliate with KAMPI. He even foretold the former of his return to their party.

As it turned out, Sen. Franklin Drilon’s prediction proved prophetic with the recent homecoming of Cong. Francisco Matugas to the Liberal Party.

News of Matugas’ return to the Liberal Party spread like wildfire and drew positive reactions from the local peasant, education, business and religious sectors which were all supportive of the lawmaker’s legislative agenda on agriculture, aqua-culture, education, entrepreneurship, spiritual renewal and many others.

The local chapter of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines headed by Bacuag Mayor Shiela Mae Orquina-Cebedo likewise expressed optimism that the two reelected solons’ affiliation with the LP would translate to widespread development and progress for all the 20 towns and one city of Surigao del Norte.

“We warmly welcome the latest membership of Cong. Lalo Matugas and Cong. Jun Romarate in the Liberal Party because we know the main reason or consideration in their minds is the general welfare of all Surigaonons. As members of the Partido Padajon Surigao, we, the mayors, have strong faith in the tested leadership of these two pillars of our province. We are all ready to follow in their footsteps and convert ourselves into LP – taking into consideration also the welfare of our respective constituencies,” Cebedo stressed during an exclusive interview.

Partido Padajon Surigao is the first and only local political party accredited and recognized by the COMELEC in Caraga Region. It is founded by Cong. Francisco Matugas who sits in as party chairman, while Cong. Guillermo Romarate, Jr. serves as its party president.

During the just-concluded May 2010 elections, the said political party captured the governor, vice-governor, city mayor and city vice-mayor seats including all mayoralty positions in twenty towns of Surigao del Norte. It also controlled the majority in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, city council and municipal councils of the province. (Jun Lira and Jun Parada, Caraga Aksyon Balita)

(Jun Parada, Caraga Aksyon Balita)

Nagkalayo ang dagat kay nabutangan man ug kalajo na jaon namay oil......syempre.... oil is less dense than water. It is because the upward buoyancy force on the oil, which is equal to the weight of water displaced, is greater than the downward force of gravity on the oil, also known as the weight of the oil. This inequality of forces causes the oil to rise in the water.

speaking of philnico, i have heard that there is a grand alumni homecoming this september for all former employees of the company. Ofw's and those former employees who are now holding high posts in big companies all over the country are expected to attend.this must be another grandiose event that will create an influx of visitors and tourists during city fiesta.philnico had more than 3k regular employees in its payroll.↲↲
Speaking of bonok bonok festival, news revealed that prizes aren't big and not attractive to far contestants.anyway, i still hope that the BBMKF would make it to the same level as sinulog,dinagyang,ati-atihan,lanzones,panagbenga and masskara.until now, bbmkf is not even marketed by ABS-CBN Regional Network Group. Gana man sab untana an ato festival diri.
