IMO, hindi masamang mag tayo ng sariling religion or whatever basta related sa ITAAS as long as maganda ang pakikitungo sa kapwa. But ndi natin ma sisi ang tao kung ganun nalang ang maiisip... like for eg. yumayaman ng husto ang mga ganyang tao dahil sa donations ng mga mananampalataya. Isa sa mga Auntie ko ang pinalad sa hindi magandang pag sali sa mga ganyang practices. Miyembro ang auntie ko sa organization ni ecleo at ayun nahihirapan ng ibalik ung yaman ng auntie ko dati dahil lang sa donate ng donate don sa kanila. Hindi masamang mag donate pero ang hirap ng ganung sitwasyon. Kaya sa mga taong matino ang pag iisip sana maging matino rin sa pagpili at sa mga desisyon sa buhay..hehehehe Wag basta basta paloloko...hehehe

Hindi naman sayang tonight.. Ganyan talaga if mansion yong ginagawa mong bahay,ganyan kalaki mauubusan ka talaga ng budget nyan.:lol:. Finishing stage naman sad..Interior na guro yong ginagawa nila sa ngayon.

anyway, the Municipality of General Luna of Siragao Island, Surigao del Norte, Home of Philippines Surfing Paradise is one of the participants of Sinulog 2009. Sila pud ang mi Champion sa Bonok-Bonok Festival last year sa Surigao City. gudlak nalang sa ila!

Ija mi gitour sa place..Usahay gani an amu balay himuog meeting place nila pero ok raman kay mga tarong man sila. Kamanting an tawag nila or Singsingan.hehe They dont drink liquor and smoke. Grabe lamang gajud jaon sila kaloyal.

Bisan kusog ang uyan, wayay gihapon samok. Amo gid ginahambal ko haw! hahaha sak sak sinagol... butuanon, waray, cdeo og ilongoo..hehehehehe. Mao nga ang caraga is friendly kaayo. Dili lang samukon kay mo patay sad ini....hehehehehe

Way undang uyan dire mike. way sab flights ugsa nubalik an ka importante nan cokaliong, he he he. Byahe sab mga lantsa gikan sa mga island municiplaities.

RE: Holy Land, San Jose, Province of Dinagat Islands. You can actually go on a sightseeing tour there, just make arrangements with their tourism office.

All those landscaping, buildings and other structures were buil by free voluntary labor of the members of PBMA. "pahina" ila tawag. I had occasion to go there while it was still under construction, and the scene reminded of the slaves of Egypt while building the pyramids.:ohno:

yes, ports in urban areas are somewhat congested and unroganized, but it is very convenient specially for passengers within the city proper. Whereas, those ports located outside the urban areas, like the the one in Lipata, is not so convenient to passengers with lots of baggage, because they still have to travel a few kilometers just to reach the city proper. I dont know if public transportation from lipata to the city proper is a problem?

Guys, apil man diay ang bonok-bonok sa kahimunan.

Yes Reg, I just learned about it today. An champion sa bonok bonok 2008 represented Surigao City sa Kahimunan, pupils of Surigao West Central Elementary School. Nakadaog man daw. its the 2nd or 3rd straight victory of Surigao in Butuan daw.

The City has opted to participate in Kahimunan because of the exorbitant cost of participating in Sinulog considering the Bonok bonok foundation is a big failure. Magsalig ra sa LGU for financial assistance, on their own di makatindog.:bash:

I may say their dance could not even beat other dancers from other contingents in terms of performance kay dili man kaayo makalingaw ila sayaw..walay gimik ba labi na sa street dancing.... Kuyang siguro sa support,practice and bala ra an choreograper ato, sorry to say. Makit-an man sad sa sayaw nila and the costume and props mejo dry..:bash: If sa surigao magsilbi sila pero diri,dili sila igkita kay grabe pangagana an iban..better luck next time.

yes, tonight. Its one of a kind here in the PHILIPPINES that edgecoaster, theres one in Hongkong.Hopefully this hotel will also open in surigao.hehehe..year 2030 siguro! :nuts: Its greatly decorated and lighted at night with LED lights that change colors and rotating light beams at the top. This building is seen on the entire citywide..

mom's from mainit pero nidako ko sa bxu taman high school tapos manila na dajon pagkahuman. pero kahibayo ko mag sinurigaonon kay amo man ginagamit namo sa bayay.

it's a shame waya pa gajud ako nakakadto sa siargao. the last time jaon ako sa surigao was 5 yrs ago pa.

Hi, eagle1974. SEPTEMBER 20's is the best for me kay siargao is hosting the international surfing cup because of bigger waves and summer sa US. Mas nindot an beach ani na time.MAs bibo kay haghang tourists local and foreign with lots of nightlife events.. You may also come in surigao a week early for the surigao city fiesta and feel the festivities before goin there..:)

Good that the planes were able to land despite the bad weather condition. Lat December 23, I boarded PAL express (2nd flight) to Surigao. We were already in the vicinity of Surigao City at aroud 6PM when the pilot announced that the plane will be diverted back to Manila because it could not land due to zero visibility brought about by a heavy downpour. The following day December 24), on a special flight (7AM), the plane finally was able to land. I took a video while the plane is approaching surigao city until it touches down the runway. Former Surigao City Mayor Salvador “Goding” Sering passed away last Saturday, December 27, 2008 due to cardiac arrest.

Mayor Goding was known as “The Builder” in Surigao City. He served as City Mayor for three terms until 1998. He was succeeded by his son, Roland Sering, who unfortunately died in an accident paving the way for the assumption of incumbent Mayor Alfonso Casurra.

Last May 2007 elections, the Serings make a comeback in politics through a son, Rico Salvador Sering who won as Vice Mayor. That victory though leave a sour note as it led to the separation of the Matugas-Sering alliance. Nitoy Matugas, Sering’s mayoral candidate accused the Sering camp of betrayal which resulted to the former’s defeat to Mayor Alfonso Casurra by a narrow margin.

Goding Sering could have played a major role in 2010 in Cocoy Sering’s candidacy for the city’s top post.

THE Philippines is planning to put up four fishing ports near the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the Pacific Ocean after Jakarta decided not to renew an agreement that grants fishing rights to Filipinos in Indonesia.

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture (DA), said the move is intended to encourage Filipino fishers to tap the Pacific Ocean EEZ.

“With the recent closure of Indonesian waters to our fishing vessels, we have to look for alternative fishing grounds, and the likely candidate would have to be the Pacific Ocean EEZ,” said BFAR director Malcolm Sarmiento.

The BusinessMirror tried to contact BFAR to find out why Jakarta decided not to renew the fishing agreement, but Sarmiento could not be reached by phone.

The fishing agreement for the 200-mile Indonesian EEZ in the Sulawesi Sea, which expired in 2006, had allowed Filipino fishers to harvest some 80,000 to 100,000 metric tons (MT) more tuna yearly.

The Philippines has been trying to renegotiate the agreement, but Sarmiento said earlier that the conditions laid down by Jakarta are proving to be “difficult” for the government.

Sarmiento said the Pacific EEZ could be a viable alternative. He noted that it is underutilized for three reasons: tuna and other tuna-like species are seasonal in the area, the design of Philippine fishing vessels are not suitable for operations in the Pacific, and there are no infrastructure facilities in the Eastern seaboard to serve Philippine operators who would decide to operate in the Pacific.

The fishing ports, BFAR said, will be constructed in Casiguran, Aurora; Infanta, Quezon; Tacloban City in Leyte; and Surigao City in Surigao del Norte.Sarmiento said these chosen sites for the four fishing ports share two common traits: their geographic location facing the Pacific Ocean and their proximity to existing airports.

The fishing ports will be patterned after the fishing port in Davao City which has piers, refrigeration facilities, ice plants and processing plants. These facilities in Davao City enable fishers to unload their catch, process them and export their products to local and foreign markets because of their nearness to airports.

Surigao City: Philippines' Wettest City

Being a coastal area, Surigao City is a wonderful place to explore and have fun. Various methods of transportation are available daily from Manila. Surigao City's yearly festivals are crowd gatherers making the trip to Surigao City a memorable one.

Surigao City is located at the northern tip of the Surigao del Norte Province of the Philippines. It is a coastal city where hills and mountains are prominent. Surigao City's boundaries are Hinatuan Passage at the north and east sides, Surigao Strait at the west side, and Tagana-an at the south side.

Surigao City has a land area of 245.34 sq. kilometers. The city has its own port, which is greatly shielded by the Islands of Nonoc. Roads that are in good condition connect Surigao City with its neighboring towns and the rest of the island of Mindanao in the Philippines.

During the time of the early Christian missionaries in the Philippines, the city was better known as Caraga because of the native inhabitants, the Caragas, a brave, ferocious, and warlike people.

Surigao became a town June 29, 1655 and by 1751, it became the provincial government seat of Surigao del Norte, Philippines. Surigao has been an active participant throughout Philippine history. On August 31, 1970, Surigao officially became a chartered city through Republic Act No. 6134.

Surigao City is composed of 54 barangays with 33 mainland barangays and 21 island barangays. Five urban barangays divide Surigao City's proper. These are Luna, Canlanipa, San Juan, Washington, and Taft. Six barangays in the mainland are along the coastal areas.

Surigao City is known as the wettest city in the Philippines for having 223 rainy days throughout the year. Maximum rainfall is in the months of November to March. Surigao City has no definite dry season.

Surigao City is accessible by air, sea, and land. Direct flights from Manila are available daily. Shipping lines like WGA and Sulpicio Lines service Surigao City from Manila every Monday and Sunday, respectively. Buses are available daily from other parts of Mindanao to Surigao City.

Surigao City has a number of yearly festivals such as Santo Niño de Bad-Asay Feast Day, Suroy sa Surigao, Northeastern Mindanao Classics Mountain Bike & Road Racing Challenge, Fluvial Procession, Bonok-bonok Maradjaw Karadjaw Festival, Commemoration of the First Hoisting of Philippine Flag in Mindanao, and more. Bonok-bonok Maradjaw Karadjaw Festival is the most popular festival of the city.

The Philippine Deep is found in the territory of Surigao City. It is the deepest portion in the Pacific Ocean located in the Philippines. The Philippine Deep is noted for being an almost fathomless underwater gorge.

There are a lot of exciting places that can be visited in Surigao City such as islands, beaches, forests, caves, and parks. A number of resorts, hotels, and inns are also found in the city.

Surigao City is an exciting place to go for adventure and festivities. You really can enjoy your vacation in Surigao City.

Yes, before little city yang Nonoc Island, kapag gabi na, maraming ilaw at nag-o-operate pa nun ung PHILNICO. Nung ma-shut down na, siguro un ang ikinalubog ng little city I think. Now, ni isa wala ka nang makikitang mga lights, minsan dumaan kami sa City boulevard at malungkot tingnan ang Nonoc Island na nag-mold sa Municipality of Surigao na maging SURIGAO CITY :ohno:

Surigao City History
What is now the city proper of Surigao was formerly known as "Banahao", which contained a good port for ships called "Bilan-Bilan". Banahao was part of the old district of Caraga, which later on became the politico-military district of Surigao with Tandag (presently the capital of Surigao del Sur) as its capital. Caraga derives from the word Calagan which means "Land of the Brave" or "fierce people". The Italian adventurer Francisco Giovani Careri, who published a book of travel in the country, cited Francisco Combes, S.J. as a source in saying that Calagan is derived from the two Visayan words: kalag or calag which means soul or people and for land.

Surigao officially became the permanent residence of the Recollects on February 1, 1752 when all the canonical books were moved from Siargao to Surigao. The first canonical books bore the signature of Fr. Lucas de la Cruz. Previously, the place was just a "vista" of the parish in Caolo (Siargao). This date may be considered as Surigao's foundation day.

It was through Surigao Strait that the fleet of Ferdinand Magellan after a brief stay at the island of Homonhon, sailed into the Philippine Archipelago during the epic voyage of discovery and eventual circumnavigation of the world in 1521.

It was this body of water that the Battle of Surigao Strait was fought in World War II, from October 24-25, 1944 between United States, Filipino and Japanese fleets.

Surigao is named after the old province (district) of the same name (Surigao). There are many versions regarding the meaning of Surigao; how this was derived. Like Sulo, which means sulog or current. Surigao probably came from the Spanish Surgir, meaning swift water or current. With the division of Surigao into two provinces, Surigao del Sur and Surigao del Norte, the Municipality of Surigao became the capital of Surigao del Norte. It became a chartered city on August 31, 1970.

The City was severely affected by Hurricane Ike which hit the City in September 1984. This extract from The Times on 6 September 1984 reports on the aftermath:

While more than 300 people are now known to have died, Mr Salvador Sering, the deputy governor, believes 1,000 died in the provincial capital [Surigao City] alone. The city has run out of coffins and people are being buried in mass graves. Some 200 residents of the town of Mainit were reported to have drowned when a lake burst its banks. As the clearing up continues, cholera and typhoid vaccines have been flown to the devastated areas.

On September 10, 2007, the contingent from Bacuag, Surigao del Norte, was grand champion in the Bonok-Bonok Maradjaw Karadjaw Festival 2007 at the City Hall grounds in Surigao City. Bacuag defeated the other 6 contingents coming from Butuan City, Surigao del Norte National High School (SNNHS), Province of Misamis Oriental, Surigao City Pilot School (SCPS), Cabadbaran City and Municipality of Jabonga, by showcasing the Inuwak Festival, Bacuag's famous local festival. The contingent received P200,000 in cash and a trophy from the Bonok-Bonok Culture and Arts Association Inc., the organizer of the annual Bonok-Bonok festiva.

I remember when my uncle brought me in the NONOC when it was still operational.. He was the planner of PHILNICO. There were huge empty tank and pipes, its really amazing. Nonoc is really a great peaceful place..Hope I can go there again. There is an owl living daw in the forest.. I do hpe na jaon gihapon pagkakuman living peacefully.. And That very big beautiful colonial house na taghuy-an sauna nan CEO! sus ginoo sin-o raman lamang nagpuyo didto!

I really like this part of the luneta (skating rink and the castle). Sayang, I hope they preserved this portion of the luneta. Compared to what it is today, I think the old luneta is much better.

BHP shuts Australian nickel mine 1/20/09

Mining companies have been hit hard by the global downturn
The world's biggest mining group, BHP Billiton, has said it will close its Ravensthorpe nickel mine in Australia due to poor profitability prospects.

In a statement, it also said it would cut production at its Mount Keith nickel mine, also in Australia.

In addition, the firm said it would cut some 6,000 jobs worldwide to cope with plummeting demand for its products.

The price of nickel, used mainly in the production of stainless steel, has dropped because of the global slowdown.

In Australia, 3,400 jobs will be lost, another 2,000 in Chile and 550 at the Pinto Valley copper mine in the US.

In the statement, BHP Billiton said it would immediately start "the safe ramp down and indefinite suspension of the Ravensthorpe Nickel Operation".

"In addition, the rate of mining at the Mount Keith operation will be reduced in order to preserve its economic viability."

However, the company said it would maintain nickel concentrate output.

"We fully understand the impact that today's announcement has on our employees, contractors and their families," Jimmy Wilson, BHP's stainless steel materials president, said.

"These decisions are never easy but are the consequence of our long held practice of continually reviewing all of our operations to ensure that they are competitive," he added.

The announced cuts - which represent 6% of BHP Billiton's global workforce - underscore a dramatic turnaround in the fortunes of mining companies as the global financial downturn is biting into the previously insatiable appetite for steel making, analysts say.

The price of nickel has dropped from some $51,000 (£36,700) per metric ton in May 2007 to about $11,550 (£8,300) per metric ton.

wala na filino, ako ra ini mga pics when i went there in surigao..im fond of taking pictures jud para ipost nako diri..:)..some pictures here are not mine sad..hamok mga gana sa surigao waya lamang ma expose an iban..thats why its called city of island adventures kay there are so many islands waiting to be explored....:lol::lol:

The historical institute should review their studies regarding the first hoisting of the Philippine flag. Our history has been in limbo since 1898 and now we are in limbo again with the first hoisting of the Philippine flag.

For now, let us not speculate further regarding that matter as it will only result to another senseless argument.

But, you know what guys, I don't believe that we had our independence in 1898. I believe that we truly had our independence when the Americans gave our independence after the World War 2. That's my opinion.

The INTERIOR

Photos by yours truly taken during their fiesta 2008. They made repainting,addition of mouldings, lights, and stonecladding works for the altar. A project of the parish for the celebration of the fiesta and was designed by a local architect. Its now known to be the the most beautiful church in Siargao.:)

Let me just clarify that what was discussed here is the first hoisting of the Phil. flag in Mindanao only.

The senseless arguments are over actually, as I said earlier, the NHI has already validated that the event occurred in Surigao. In fairness to Butuan after the NHI came out with its final finding, they have ceased claiming and promoting the event already.
