Bagan waya may overnight accommodation did-on. You might ask the owner or caretaker if they have such kind of arrangement. Or you can pitch a tent on the beach, bring your mosquito net and katol, water, gas, food, cooler, airmattress, blanket, radio, lamp, portable fan, beach chairs, utensils, first aid kit and viola!- you have an instant hotel accommodation right on the beach! Don't know about pump boat prices today. We used the family lantsa to take it there. Gas cost us 6000-8000 pesos round trip 20 years ago. It's better to probably hire pakyaw so you don't have to worry about your trip back home. Have fun.

Gi suspend ng Office of the Ombudsman si Prospero Pichay Jr., ug ang tuyo ka board members apil si Susana Dumlao Vargas tungod sa allege anomalous acquisition of a controlling stake in a thrift bank in 2009 using funds of LWUA.
For preliminary investigation pa naman kining kaso nila ug basi sa balita i sang at nila Pichay og kaubanan sa Court of Appeals.
I hope nga ma explain nila maajo ang ilang mga actions nga gihimo kay mga taga Surigao man kini si Prospero Pichay og Susana Dumlao Vargas.

May 23, 2011, 4:47pm
SURIGAO CITY, Philippines – The new leadership of the influential Regional Development Council (RDC) in the Caraga Region is embarking on disaster risk reduction, climate change adaption, and poverty alleviation, in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), as its most priority agenda for the next 18 months.
These target goals of the new RDC leadership came out during the first round table discussion with the region’s top officials led by newly appointed RDC chairperson Surigao del Norte Gov. Sol F. Matugas, and Region 12 National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Director Carmencita Cochingco at the Governor’s Office here on Sunday.
Matugas also discussed with NEDA and other top regional and provincial officials other priority programs that will enhance the economic development in the region especially that several foreign investors are already coming in.
“We must redouble our efforts, after all these will also uplift the living condition of our people, particularly those in the far-flung communities,” stressed the new RDC chairperson.
Matugas also disclosed the programs that are already in the priority agenda of the provincial government of Surigao del Norte and some of these include the provincial hospital in Placer town, and the proposed regional science high school in Alegria town.
She also challenged all RDC officials and members for a close working relationship with the local executives and legislators to achieve their goals.
The new RDC leadership will also have its own team building and visitations of “Galing Pook” awardees in other regions to have learning experience, it was learned.
President Aquino appointed Matugas last month as the new RDC chairperson of the Caraga Region after four years of vacancy.

MANILA, Philippines—The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) has suspended the operations of Philnico Industrial Corp. (PIC) allegedly for neglecting to pay up to $262.55 million in government dues.
Philnico started to rack up the liabilities after it secured the rights to operate a mineral reservation in Surigao del Norte.
The MGB, an agency attached to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, was acting on a Department of Finance report detailing Philnico’s failure to pay its dues to the government, when it issued the order directing the mining firm to stop operating and transporting mineral resources.
The MGB also ordered Philnico to explain why its mineral production sharing agreement with the government should not be revoked.
MGB director Leo L. Jasareno told the Inquirer that Philnico had been served the suspension notice on Tuesday.
“As far as we know, Philnico is supposedly still negotiating a possible partnership with Jinchuan Group Ltd. of China. However, we cannot overlook this issue. If Philnico has been delinquent in paying government dues while mining is ongoing and its subcontractors are paying their royalties, what more when the resources in its contract area run out?” Jasareno said.
In its suspension order, a copy of which was secured by the Inquirer, the MGB also said it would not entertain applications for similar permits for minerals and ore extracted from the contract area.
In a letter to Environment Secretary Ramon J.P. Paje that was sent last week, Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima said Philnico had not fully paid the government for acquiring the mining rights of Nonoc Mining Industrial Corp. to operate the Surigao mineral reservation.
Purisima said Philnico had paid the government only $1.25 million of the $263.8 million it owed since 1996, when it purchased the state’s interest in Nonoc.

they tried before but withdraw in hurry due to the demands of PIC. Maybe the new admin under Pnoy can now force Philnicoo stand aside so that other investors can come in. The thing is they are in actual possession of the area. Its one thing to serve anotice or Order, its another thing to have them move out. Last card jaon nan Philnico otherwise if the government is serious to really go after them for the default in payment then totally out of the picture sila. The influential owners will not permit that to happen.

ScReWfAcE May 25th, 2011, 01:10 PM Suroy Surigao goes ‘voluntourism’
TOURISM takes on a social dimension as Surigao City’s "Suroy Surigao" embarks on its "voluntourism" program aimed at helping the communities they visit, while rediscovering "The City of Island Adventures."
Set on May 28 to June 5, the event is a domestic tourism program of Mayor Ernesto Matugas involving the Women of Worth (WOW) Surigao to rediscover the city’s charming natural wonders which are largely unexplored by locals.
WOW Surigao is a newly-formed association of businesswomen, civic leaders and professionals organized by city first lady Filomena Matugas which serves as partner of the local government in promoting tourism and community service.
Mayor Matugas said Suroy Surigao is a unique undertaking because participants will also donate school bags and supplies to needy children of the city’s 54 barangays. "Suroy" means travel in the Visayan language.
Surigao City, the capital of Surigao del Norte, city is considered the gateway to Mindanao via the Maharlika Highway.
The commercial hub of the provinces of Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Sur the city is composed of various island villages and coastal areas, making it a haven for water sports and beach activities.
"Surigao takes pride in its merry mix of cultural, natural and island adventure destinations which can rival even the established tourist spots," Matugas said.
He added that by incorporating the voluntourism component, visitors can have a direct part in making the communities feel the immediate benefits of tourism.
Beach lovers can bask in the clear waters of Looc Beach and Mabua-Ipil Pebble Beach, a unique kilometer-long stretch which boasts of smooth, multi-sized pebbles instead of sand.
Philnico Eco-Park and Miniforest in Nonoc Island is a nature lover’s haven with its sprawling greens and spectacular view of the mountains and outlying islands. Another hideaway is the Manjagao mangrove forest which is sanctuary to teeming species of fish and other marine life.
Day-Asan floating village, also called the "Little Venice of Surigao", offers a quaint view of houses on wooden stilts amid mangrove forests which can be accessed only by boat.
A unique attraction is the 391-meter long Cantiasay-San Pedro wooden foot bridge, the longest in the country, which offers the thrilling experience of crossing two islands on foot.
For spelunkers, there are Silop and Buenavista caves whose impressive limestone formations, stalagmites, stalactites and magnificent columns will surely capture their fancy.

By IRMA ISIP
The Aboitiz Group will build a P24.945 billion coal-fired power plant in Davao City to meet the growing demand for electricity in that city and surrounding provinces.
The project, to be undertaken by Therma Power Inc., is designed for base load application. The plant will use clean technology and source coal requirements from Indonesia.
The plant’s site on a narrow strip of coastal land straddling Davao City’s Toril district and Sta. Cruz town in Davao del Sur will have a coal offloading and storage facility.
Therma Power, a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power Corp., will sell the plant’s output to sister companies Davao Light and Power and Cotabato Light and Power as well as to the electric cooperatives of Davao del Sur and Davao Oriental.
The project will employ 121 people and start commercial operations in January 2015.
The Aboitiz power plant led P27 billion worth of projects approved Wednesday for incentives by the Board of Investments.
Also approved was the P238.935-million nickel ore mining project of Filipino-owned Oriental Vision Mining Philippines Corp.
The firm has conducted initial exploration in 2,314 hectares of mineral land on Dinagat island under a mineral production sharing agreement (MPSA). The explored area as of May 1, 2010 was 290 hectares or 12.5 percent of the total coverage of the MPSA.
Based on the calculated mineable ore reserves of 6.3 million wet metric tons (WMT) and at a scheduled extraction rate of 1 million WMT per year of nickel ore, the mine’s life is about six years. However, the programmed extraction is within a blocked area of only 49 hectares.
The company said there is a huge potential for more ore reserves that will stretch the mine life to more than 10 years.
The company will directly ship nickel ore to buyers in China, Australia and Japan. No further value-adding processing step will be employed by the firm.
The firm’s project is expected to employ a total of 185 people. The targeted start of commercial operations is June 2011.
Also getting the BOI’s nod was Filinvest Land Inc.’s two housing projects worth P1.02 billion.
The first, worth P570.935 million, is the condominium project Bali Oasis buildings 3 and 4 located on Marcos highway, Santolan, Pasig City.
FLI will develop 9,043 square meters of land and erect two medium-rise buildings with five floors each. These buildings will have 320 housing units and be considered as low-cost/economic housing units with package prices ranging from P1.41 million to P2.5 million per unit.
The other project involves a total investment of P448.574 million for a subdivision called Villa Monserrat III in San Juan, Taytay, Rizal.
The firm will develop 7.5276 hectares of land and will build 256 low-cost/economic housing units with a package price of P2.571 million per unit. The housing units will be single detached with a floor area of 118 sq. m.

Very good indeed! I just hope that they make it decent and presentable, dili kun basta basta ra tapos mahuyog na sab na short time. Hopefully also they will provide for a nice garden or the like kay bala raba an surroundings diha.
With the reported 50 rooms of Central and this one, maybe we can start hosting mindanao or nationwide conventions. not that we have not before, but accomodations were always a problem, and these were small attendance conventions.

It's about time Surigao makes it to the convention map. And it comes with perks! Rest and recreation options are boundless. No other major city or town in Caraga can come close to what Surigao can offer tourismwise.
Bricken Ridge May 28th, 2011, 09:39 AM another suspected NPA incursion in the city occurred last night (early morning?) at Km. 8 (9?). kan charry mangacop (former mayor of Placer) property an tagsuyod.
Maybe the Mayor can break off from his travels to manila supposedly to invite investors, and stay put to address the worsening peace and order situation in the city. Investors shy away from unstable localities.
Agree. Priorities, priorities. What happened to out checkpoints?
jsl_bxu1206 May 28th, 2011, 10:39 AM Mining firm turns-over ‘caraboy’ equipment to Surigao Norte
by FEAbkilan
SURIGAO DEL NORTE, May 28 (PIA) – Mining firm Platinum Group Metals Corp. (PGMC) thru their subsidiary Cagdianao Mining Corporation (CMC) recently turned-over five units of tractor-like equipment known as ‘caraboy’ to the Provincial Agriculture Office of the province.
The ‘caraboy’ which takes the place of the carabao, is a new invention from China for ricefield cultivation which can be applied to plow, harrow and trailer as well as for transportation, it was learned.
With the caraboy machine, the farmers are the one who will be sitting down and roam around working on their farm. The said equipment is equivalent to three carabaos and is proven to work much faster in terms of performance and maintenance.
Provincial Agriculturist Gromyco Geraldino received the said units from Richard Gimenez of CMC in a formal turn-over at the provincial capitol compound on Monday, May 23.
Geraldino said these 5-unit equipment will then be distributed to the farmer-beneficiaries of Siargao island. (PIA-Surigao del Norte)

jsl_bxu1206 May 29th, 2011, 02:50 PM 11-hour power interruption to affect wide areas in Northeastern Mindanao
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
May 29, 2011, 3:40pm
BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – Wide areas in Northeastern Mindanao will be experiencing an 11-hour power interruption next week due to the annual preventive maintenance in its major power lines in the region, it was announced Sunday.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) through the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in the Caraga Region announced that the power shutdown will take place at the Anislagan-Madrid and Anislagan-Surigao sub-transmission facilities on June 4.
The NGCP said the affected clients will be those under the Surigao del Norte Electric Cooperative, Siargao Electric Cooperative, Surigaso del Sur Electric Cooperative III, and Pacific Cement Company.
The power interruption will start from 6 a.m. up to 5 p.m. on the said date, the press statement said.
The NGCP announcement added that the annual preventive maintenance schedule will take place at the Placer Substation Transformers No. 1 and 2, and its associated high-voltage equipment.
It will also facilitate the rehabilitation works of 20 critical dilapidated structures along the Anislagan-Madrid 69-kilovolt sub-transmission lines, the NGCP announcement further added.
“Big mining and agricultural companies and other industrial firms in these areas will be affected by this power shutdown next week, and had advised all affected electric cooperative clients to look for some strategic measures for their continued operations,” PIA Region 13 Director Abner M. Caga also announced.
Meanwhile, the NGCP also announced that the Automated Meter Data Retrieval (AMR) System is already in place to satisfy the requirement of the WESM for the daily delivery of load profile-type meter data from all metering facilities.
In another development, the PIA’s role in government information and dissemination has been strengthened as it has been tasked as regional coordinator of the Presidential Communications Operation Office (PCOO), and serves as link for disseminating news and advocacies of other government agencies.
Under a Special Order released on May 23, PCOO Secretary Sonny Coloma designated PIA regional directors and officers-in-charge (OICs) as PCOO regional coordinators/representatives.

Yes, why not? I will not be surprised if all those rumored establishments will become a reality also considering that Surigao City has already "arrived". It is now poised to give other cities not just in the Caraga but in the whole of Mindanao a run of their money.

NewTown May 29th, 2011, 04:06 PM The 20th Mindanao Business Conference is being held in Pagadian City. I think this is the first time the city plays host to this annual event. Surigao City hosted the 11th MBC in 2002 or 10 years ago.
I suggest that the Surigao Chamber of Commerce and Industry bid the next business conference considering that this time around Surigao City has adequate and highly improved facilities like hotels, pension houses, venues, transportation, etc. compared to the first time the city hosted the said conference.
Surigao is the city to watch due to the numerous investments coming in and the fact that it is the tourism capital of Mindanao today.
Zamboanga City has hosted this event 4 times, Davao City 3 times. The cities of Cagayan de Oro, Dipolog and Koronadal has hosted 2 times.

rally May 30th, 2011, 08:02 AM re: SRBC mall
It would appear that the City Council is scheduling a special session to tackle this issue. SRBC has offered to increase annual rentals from 200k to 400k, relocate the birthing center at its expense and begin the construction of a 120M commercial building (the original plan was estimated to cost around P65M)
Depending on the outcome of this special session, SRBc is all set to file the case for Forcible Entry against the City Govt.

My source also and seconded by Jed that JJBA owns that property there. Youre right shaun, its gonna be a warehouse type but intended for storage purposes.
But theres a possibility with the vastness of the property, they might lease that warehouse for commercial purposes for supermarket store like savemore, sukiclub, prince warehouse , express hardware store, makro, etc.

in that sense being federal system we can legislate our own laws therefore, our legislative body should create a balance or equal distribution from total income of the entire state. Again it all depends from our legislators how they will impose law with fair and just result.

Bricken Ridge May 31st, 2011, 04:15 AM Court stay sought on nickel mining operations
GROUPS OF indigenous people in two provinces in Mindanao have filed a petition for Writ of Kalikasan (nature) at the Supreme Court against the operation of nickel miners whose projects have polluted rivers and seas.
The Tribal Coalition of Mindanao Inc., led by Victoriano C. Vidal, with the Daging Manobo, Urbistondo Manobo-Mamanwa and Kinalablaban sectoral tribal councils, Cabanghan Tribal Community of the Manobo Tribe and Datu Willy Daging, filed the petition with the Supreme Court yesterday.
They are seeking the issuance of a Temporary Environmental Protection Order under the writ against respondents Taganito Mining Corp., Platinum Group Metals Corp., Oriental Synergy Mining Corp., Shenzhou Mining Group Corp., and Marcventures Mining and Development Corp. which have nickel mining operations in Claver in Surigao del Norte, and Carascal and Cantilan in Surigao del Sur.
The court was also asked to issue a permanent mining ban after proper proceedings, and to nullify operating permits of the miner-respondents.
Also named as respondents were Environment Secretary Ramon J.P. Paje, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples Region 13 Director Dominador Gomez, Mines and Geosciences Bureau regional director Alilo Ensomo, Jr., Environmental Management Bureau regional director Ester Olavides and the provincial governments of the Surigao provinces.
In their 22-page petition, the groups claimed that the miners failed to provide a dam to collect mine tailings and other toxic by-products from the open-pit mines.
"Mining companies operated without providing sedimentation or siltation dams or barriers which are necessary to prevent erosion and siltation of the rivers and creeks (Taganito River, Henadkaban River, Pangabihon River, Hamoyawon Creek, Hayanggabon River, Cagdinao River, Capangdan Creek and Kinalablaban River)," the petition read.
Instead, the wastes from the mines were dumped directly into the rivers, resulting in environmental disaster.
The environmental damage also affected residents who have complained of difficulty in breathing, skin rashes, vomiting and loose bowel movement after eating fish or swimming in the river allegedly.
Petitioners claimed that tests conducted by the University of the Philippines Natural Sciences Research Institute on water and soil samples showed that nickel levels in the said rivers were as high as 190 milligrams per liter (mg/L), way higher than the acceptable level of 0.02 mg/L for drinking water. -- NRM

rally May 31st, 2011, 04:59 AM Kapalmoks gajud! Waya pa may kaha tagbayad nan iton sa rental for how many years bisan 5 cents yet still it has the nerve to say na it will increase its rental from P200k to P400k. Kun ako an LGU dili na ako motoo or magpailad. Puro ra ton false promises. Forcible entry? Haha Grabe gajud ini ka kataw-anan kay way sad baslanan an syudad bisan kun amoy oiriginal na tag-ija nan lupa.
ha ha ha, we ordinary mortals can only wonder...:)
the thing is, srbc made a tender of payment for the rentals for the whole period it occupied the lot, but the City refused to accept it, which i personally thought was an error. The City erroneously thought that accepting it would mean waiver of the rescission of the contract. oh well, let the City Legl Office do its job.:)

NewTown May 31st, 2011, 03:47 PM Unity and cooperation. Kini ang supposed objectives para molambo ang mga probinsya sa Caraga Region. Pero, it seems na dili ni maoy nahitabo. Sa sinugdanan pa lang ng Caraga Region, diha nay mistrust among the different officials of the provinces. Dunay informal agreement among officials of the different provinces kaniadto na dunay mga regional centers nga ibutang sa ubang probinsiya other than Butuan City pero misupak kuno si Congresswoman Charito Plaza na maoy main author ng Caraga bill. Mibawos si Senator Barbers by converting the Surigao Provincial Hospital into the Caraga Regional Hospital despite the opposition of officials of Agusan del Norte and Butuan City. A provincial hospital in Tandag, Surigao del Sur was also converted into a regional training/teaching hospital which was also reportedly opposed by officials of ADN and Butuan City. I have brought this out already in a previous forum.
Another case of disunity nahitabo niadtong nag plano pag butang ang Petron og second oil refinery sa Surigao. Gi offer ni former mayor Sering ang Nonoc Island as a possible site considering na the island is a heavy industry economic zone. Another possible site mao ang Claver. Ok ang friendly competition but not at the expense of another fellow Caragans. Anyway, as I've explained in previous forum, Petron decided not to put up a new refinery due to the huge costs og ila na lang kuno i increase ang refining capacity ng planta nila in Bataan.
