Actually, pang hotel na jaon ila classification/services dili kun pan pension laong an DOT- Caraga ugsa tag upgrade nila an trade name (esp. EY Pension). Dili sad sila ganahan na i-hotel kay dako an bayad sa BIR.

A November 15, 2011

With a received fund allocation to finance the construction of 15 classrooms in the second congressional district of Zamboanga del Norte, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Zamboanga del Norte First District Engineering Office (DEO) is now implementing a total of 24 classrooms this year equivalent to P7.161 million, with an additional nine classrooms worth P2.45 million savings in cost.

As per report, the said DPWH office has received a total allocation of P6.102 million for the second congressional district of Zamboanga del Norte and P1.059 million for Dipolog City under the calendar year 2010 Department of Education (DepEd) Regular School Building Program to complete 24 new classrooms to support the growing population.

The average cost per classroom built by the DPWH and DepEd is pegged at P650,000.00, whereas the cost of a classroom built in this district is only P275,000.

These are improvements to look forward to in the next Sinulog in 2012, said organizers.

A day after Cebu’s biggest festival wrapped up, one of the most rain-soaked but largest attended parades with 151 contingents, organizers looked ahead to mounting a better Sinulog dance competition.

Plans call for doubling the grand prize from P500,000 to P1 million each for the free interpretation and Sinulog-based categories, said Ricky Ballesteros, executive director of the Sinulog Foundation Inc.

He said an increase is planned for the P100,000 subsidy for out-of-town contingents, which joined the Grand Parade on the invitation of the foundation.

Ballesteros said he already asked Mayor Michael Rama and Councilor Margot Osmeña, who chairs the City Council's committee on tourism, to offer higher prizes for the Sinulog to reinforce its standing as the “Mother of All Festivals” in the country.

Ballesteros pointed out that the Cebu provincial government's Pasigarbo Festival offers a P1 million cash prize and a P300,000 subsidy for each participating contingent from the towns and component cities.

The rising cost of logistics is one factor, he said.

A contingent spends P300,000 to P500,000 for costumes and props while out-of-town contingents spend more since they have to pay for boat or air fare of the dancers, crew, and other delegates.

With the 30th Sinulog over, Ballesteros said orgnizers already have next year’s theme in mind – “Sinulog Beyond.”

“Movements will be inspired by robotics,” said Ballesteros to jive with a futuristic theme and the growing influence of Information Technology and computers.

Incessant rains followed Sunday’s parade, forcing dancers to wade in water and contend with a slippery stage.

Because of this, Mayor Michael Rama said the performances next year may be held in the covered court of the Sacred Heart School (Ateneo de Cebu) campus on Gen. Maxilum Avenue in Cebu City, instead of the e open field of the Cebu City Sports Center.

He said he talked to school officials who were open to moving the venue of the final judging inside the covered court, which was big enough to accommodate the contingents.

“The contingents spend so much on their preparations and it’s a shame if they can’t perform just because of the rain,” he said.

Rama said the contingents may be ferried to the Sacred Heart School on tourist buses if the rains worsen

Total land area of GC Surigao is approx. 10,000 sq. meters building is three storey and GC Surigao is bigger than Ormoc Riverside Mall. Hope nakatabang gamay. Naproblema pa gani to sija kay dako kono ang Gaisano Surigao.

i have only seen the original plans with a building footprint of 10k sq.m. x 2.5 floors thus making it a total of about 2.5 has. floor area. maybe they have submitted a new set of modified plans already and surely it will pass thru mike. ;)

DIPOLOG CITY, Nov. 25 (PIA) -- The Dipolog City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. has recently facilitated the meeting of all carwash and vulcanizing operators in the city.

It was held at Octave Music Lounge and Sports Bar, Tomas Claudio St., Dipolog City on November 22, 2011.

THE LOCAL government of Dipolog City has passed a resolution granting the city mayor the power to file legal action against a provincial open-pit mining ban in Zamboanga del Norte citing it may affect its sand and gravel extraction.

In a telephone interview yesterday, Dipolog City Mayor Evelyn T. Uy said Resolution No. 11-548 approved by the city council on Nov. 15 grants her the authority to start appropriate legal action questioning the validity of the provincial ordinance which bans open-pit mining.

The Project Feasibility Study of the Leyte-Mindanao Interconnection Project (LMIP) must have already started since this project was approved last month. Top officials of the provinces of Surigao del Norte and Dinagat should join forces in petitioning or requesting top officials of the National Grid Corporation of the Phil. (NGCP) headed by Henry Sy Jr. that the undersea electric cables should pass Dinagat first and then onward to mainland Surigao del Norte. In the old Project Feasibility Study prepared by the National Power Corporation several years ago, undersea cables were to be laid from Leyte directly to Surigao del Norte mainland. The Governor of Surigao del Norte at that time was Lalu Matugas and he suggested to Napocor that the cables should go first to Dinagat before Surigao. Unfortunately, his suggestion was not carried because it was economically unfeasible to do it; Dinagat could not sustain the high cost of the line going there. The project, however, was completely shelved due to the lack of funds. We all know that Napocor has been a losing government entity.

This time around, NGCP will manage the project. There are now so many mining companies in Dinagat and the demand of electricity has tremendously increased. Dinagat is a sister province of Surigao del Norte- any economic development in that island will also benefit Surigao del Norte. To our governors, congressmen, mayors and other public officials of both provinces, unite and act fast!

Mindanao ‘Week of Peace’ celeb kicks-off in Surigao

BUTUAN CITY, Nov. 26 (PIA) -- The Mindanao "Week of Peace" celebration kicked-off Thursday with the 'Walk for a Cause' walkathon starting from the different points of the city and later converged at the City Kiosk, Luneta Park, Surigao City where participants were met by a ‘Hataw’ exercise and an opening program led by the Caraga Conference for Peace and Development (CCPD) with the government agencies and partner stakeholders.

The most Rev. Juan de Dios Pueblos, Diocese of Butuan Bishop, in his opening program ecumenical prayer, stressed that to attain peace, people should embrace peace not only in their words but also in their actions.

With this year's theme "Common Word between Us & You: Love of God, Love of Neighbor," Bishop Pueblos called on the public to love and care their brothers, sisters, and neighbors despite its differences for it is one way to attain peace.

Surigao del Norte Gov. Sol Matugas, said that she has been an advocate of peace since she became the governor and setting as an example to all her Surigaonon constituents.

“Humility in oneself with an open mind and heart is very important to attain peace,” said Matugas.

During the celebration’s press conference, Sultan Gamal Amerol, representing the Muslim Community, expressed his appreciation to convenor Bishop Pueblos and Surigao del Norte Gov. Matugas for the efforts of the CCPD in giving importance to the Muslims of Surigao and in the region as a whole, by getting them involved in all activities related to peace and development.

Rev. Fr. Carlito Clase, Executive Director of CCPD also asked the help of the tri-media in advocating peace and development thru their daily programs emphasizing that media have a big role in the attainment of peace through information.

Tagum cagers arrive for Surigao tourney

SURIGAO City -- The CM Farm basketball team of Tagum City arrived here yesterday afternoon to get ahead of others from the Davao region for the First Surigao City Open Invitational basketball tournament scheduled from Nov. 24 to Dec. 1. CM Farm, with two foreign imports, said this is their fi rst time to play in an invitational competition to be held at Surigao, which they admire for its serenity, peaceful surroundings, beautiful boulevard, and the isLands and islets across the Surigao Channel where various seacraft including fi shermen's small boats cruise to and fro. Other teams expected to set foot early are the Gold Star Hardware and Montana Pawnshop of Davao City and Team Pacquiao of General Santos City. The all-stars of Butuan City are said to have relaxed after a rigid training with their imports also in preparation for the tournament. BOSS, the Surigao team, is now eagerly waiting for encounters with the visiting teams. A parade around the main thoroughfares of the city will commence this morning. Games will be played in the 5,000-capacity, airconditioned gymnasium situated at the heart of the city. The prizes at stake in the event are P250,000 for the champion, P150,000 for 2nd, P100,000 for 3rd and P50,000 for 4th.

AN AMERICAN Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) firm and the Jalosjos group of companies have inked a P30-million business agreement for the establishment of a call center in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.

The agreement was signed Friday by former Zamboanga del Norte first district representative Romeo Jalosjos, representing the Jalosjos group of companies, and Robert Klayman, chief executive officer of the US-based Secure Call Management.

The agreement, which was signed a day after the 71st birthday of Jalosjos, calls for the establishment of a 100-seat call center inside the three-hectare Gloria de Dapitan.

Jalosjos said they are hiring a total of 300 employees since the call center, which opens in January 2, 2012, will be on 24-hour three-shift operations.

Jalosjos said they will give priority to the “locals” to be employed at the call center.

He said his business partner, Klayman, is willing to pay each of the call center agents a salary of up to P1,000 a day. (Bong Garcia)
