DOLE set to release livelihood grant to coco farmers in Surigao del Norte
Philippine Information Agency 4 views · posted 11 hours ago ·

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Surigao del Norte Field Office is set to release coco coir livelihood grant to members of the Claver Coconut Farmers Multi-purpose Cooperative (CLACOFARMCO) on Friday at the multi-purpose hall of Taganito Mining Corporation in Claver, Surigao del Norte.

In a phone-patch interview with PIA, Gloria Varquez, DOLE-Surigao del Norte field office head said this is the second release of the said cooperative after they have received the P230,000 grant in 2009.

She added CLACOFARMCO management has just liquidated the amount they received two years ago and that they are now qualified to receive the remaining grant amounting to P170,000.

“All in all, they are receiving a total of P400,000 livelihood grant from DOLE,” Varquez added.

The official further said the activity is part of the Labor Day celebration in the region on May 1, anchored on the theme: “Pagtutulungan, Pagbabago, Disenteng Trabaho.”

Coco coir is an organic tiny particle which is obtained from coconut husk while separating fiber from husk. It is also known as Coco peat which is used in Horticulture and Floriculture environments.

Coco peat provides with an organic alternative to rock wool and perlite media without the environmental disposal issues. Hydroponic crop production using Coco peat makes the opportunity to consistently maximize yield and provide better quality. (RER/PIA-Caraga)

Philex Mining Posts P4-Billion Record High Revenue In Q1

By JAMES A. LOYOLA
Manila Bulletin

Manuel V. Pangilinan
Philex Mining Corporation posted a historic high first quarter revenue of P4.02 billion, 4 percent higher than the P3.86 billion recorded in the same period last year on the strength of gold and copper prices in the global market.
However, the firm disclosed to the Philippine Stock Exchange that lower grade and metal recoveries at the Padcal Mine in Benguet Province kept core net income steady at about P1.33 billion while reported net income was 3 percent lower at P1.27 billion from P1.31 billion last year.
Philex Mining chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan said the Company’s investment in its Silangan Project is necessary for the long-term develop¬ment of the Company.
“This is the time to sow. This is the time to put in significant investments in the Silangan Project – investments for the development of the mine, the capability development of the orga¬nization for its eventual operations, the technology and equipment to conserve the environment as well as investments into the long-term devel¬opment of our host and neighboring communities in Surigao del Norte,” Pangilinan said.
Philex said metal prices continued to be strong in the first quarter of 2012, as revenue from gold increased to P2.18 billion from P2.1 billion last year, while revenue from copper likewise increased to P1.8 billion from P1.65 billion.
Average realized metal prices for the period were at $1,678 per ounce gold and $4.26 per pound copper on 29,153 ounces of gold and 9,085,371 pounds of copper produced.
Last year, average realized metal prices were at $1,315 per ounce gold and $4.13 per pound copper on 37,003 ounces of gold and 9,110,472 pounds of copper produced.
Tonnage milled in Padcal increased 4 percent to 2.36 million tons for the first three months of 2012 from 2.27 million tons in 2011.
But copper concentrate produced was 2 percent lower at 16,478 dry metric tons as ore grades were lower at 0.494 grams gold per ton and 0.219 percent copper this period from 0.613 grams gold per ton and 0.221 percent copper in 2011.
Metal recoveries decreased to 77.91 percent for gold and 79.92 per¬cent for copper, from 82.86 percent and 82.45 percent, respectively.
Income from operations decreased 5 percent as higher production in Pad¬cal and higher corporate overhead in-creased operating costs and expenses to P1.94 billion from P1.65 billion over the same period last year.
For social development and man¬agement programs (SDMP) at the Padcal mine, Philex Mining spent a total of P9.17 million for the host and neighboring communities in the first three months. Of this amount, 75 percent was spent for education, 19 percent for livelihood and public infrastructure and 6 percent for health programs.
Environmental protection pro¬grams during the first quarter totaled P50.58 million or 19 percent of the P261.21 million allotted for 2012 for its nursery operations, plantation opera¬tion and protection, and construction of fireline/firebreak, as well as main¬tenance and operations of the active and decommissioned tailings ponds.(James A. Loyola)

Booming Tourism Industry In Siargao Island
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
April 27, 2012, 9:28am
DAPA, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte - The Department of Tourism (DoT-Caraga Region 13) along with the provincial government of Surigao del Norte started the three-day tour guiding training that started on Wednesday to local government unit officials (LGU's), students and non-government organization (NGO's) as booming tourism industry in this "paradise island" is already picking up.

The objective of the training of these local officials, students and NGO's from the nine towns of this beautiful Pacific Ocean facing island is to cater to the needs of mushrooming tourists, both foreign and domestic at different tourist destinations here.

Currently, the island is hosting a five-day global game fishing competition in Pilar town where big number of anglers coming from the different countries of the world are competing beginning Thursday while next week from May 1 to 9, the island is also hosting the 2012 International Women's Surfing Tournament, Beach Volleyball Competition and National Surfing Competition at famous "Cloud 9" in General Luna town. Regional tourism directors from Luzon are here to observe the tourism potentials in the island.

The basic tour guiding training seminar here is also to teach the participants of the Philippine tourism industry and also to arm the host municipal and barangay communities on introduction to reception services and tour guiding, types of tour guides, roles and responsibilities of a tour guide, requisites of a tour guide and techniques in tour guiding.

Speakers from the DOT-Caraga Region 13 led by Regional Director Leticia DC Tan also taught the participants on framework of handling customer concerns, arrival and send off guiding techniques, practical tour guiding, childwise tourism, local culture, arts and heritage, commandments of tour guiding and several techniques in the tourism industry.

"This learning is your weapon for the satisfaction of guest and visitors especially that almost the island towns of this island are already international known and we noticed the increasing number of tourists coming in," said Director Tan, in her message to the participants.

Surigao del Norte Gov. Sol F. Matugas also challenged the host municipal and barangay communities where tourist spots are located, particularly the local officials to be more innovative in dealing to their guests and visitors as the provincial government is also increasing the support in terms of infrastructure, particularly roads to tourists destinations.

"We are determined to make our province more globally competitive in the years ahead," said the provincial Chief Executive.

The basic tour guiding training seminar will end today (Friday).

In another development, the provincial government of Surigao del Norte will simultaneously conduct a mobile passporting and job fair in Siargao Island next week.

Jobs seekers and those who want to have their passport renewed or those applying for new passports can take advantage of the opportunity while taking the time to also enjoy the summer activities in Siargao Island.

Both activities will be conducted on May 7 to 8 at Dapa Municipal Gymnasium here, in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, National Statistics Office (NSO), PESO, and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

Several POEA accredited recruitment agencies will conduct interviews and hiring.

Interested applicants should bring with them pertinent documents such as passports, training certificates, bio-data and others.

For the mobile passporting, applicants are advised to bring with them the required documents such as NSO certified birth certificates for the new applicants, three colored photos as specified by the DFA, marriage contract, valid IDs and other supporting documents, and Php 1,200 processing fee.

The said activities are in support to the nationwide celebration of National Service Day on May 9 and the Health, Education and Environment, Agri-Aquaculture, Livelihood and Spiritual Renewal (HEALS) agenda of Gov. Matugas and her husband Surigao del Norte 1st District solon Rep. Francisco T. Matugas. (MIKE U. CRISMUNDO)

Bonok-Bonok - A festival of thanksgiving and invocation to the almighty through the intercession of the City’s patron saint San Nicolas de Tolentino.

Happiness, friendship and prayers for good health and abundant harvest are expressed in the dance. Dancers chant “Viva Señor San Nicolas de Tolentino… Viva!”

Bonok-Bonok which means “heavy downpour” and Maradjaw Karadjaw meaning “All the very best” is culled from the belief that the heavy rains ensure the bountiful harvest of rice, root crops and fruits, which are the people’s staple food.

People have already adopted the “Bonok-Bonok Maradjaw Karadjaw” festival as a reflection of Surigao City’s rich cultural heritage, held every September 9 in celebration of the City’s Fiesta.

DSWD Caraga earmarks P55.3 - M in development projects
Department of Social Welfare and Development

In a continued effort to bring the basic social services needs of people to far-flung areas in the region, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga is allocating some Php55,320,000.00 grant in development projects through its anti-poverty program called Kalahi-CIDSS.

This was learned from Assistant Regional Director Mita G. Lim who said that this new fund is still part of the expansion of the Kalahi-CIDSS project and the first loan agreement with World Bank.

The grant will be utilized for infrastructure projects and capacity-building activities as Kalahi-CIDSS is expanding its coverage to nine (9) new municipalities in the region.

“The project expansion will commence with simultaneous project launching and MOA (Memorandum of Agreement) signing in the respective areas with key partner stakeholders within the next two weeks,” Lim said.

The project will cover the areas of RTR and Kitcharao in Agusan del Norte; Alegria, Mainit, Tubod, Del Carmen, Burgos, and Sta. Monica in Surigao del Norte; and Lingig in Surigao del Sur.

Aside from the grant that will come from DSWD, the beneficiary municipalities will also provide their local counterpart contribution (LCC) of 30 percent of their respective grants in cash and in-kind.

“The Kalahi-CIDSS financial system works in a way that key development players are given roles in planning, budgeting and decision-making that make up half of the implementation process that ensures transparency and accountability; each contributing an impact in alleviating poverty,” Lim added.

Since its pilot implementation in 2003, Kalahi-CIDSS has disbursed a total grant of Php357,786,439.20 in completing 490 sub-projects in 321 barangays in 22 municipalities in Caraga region. ### (DSWD Caraga - Social Marketing Unit

More than 70 airports nationwide to increase ‘obsolete’ terminal fees

REGULATORS are planning to hike the terminal fees of more than 70 domestic and international airports in a bid to generate funding for their development, an official said.
Abner B. Bondoc, the chief financial officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), said the government wants to increase the “obsolete” terminal fees for airports, which are under the CAAP’s watch.
“For instance, the P20 terminal fee in Puerto Princesa have been the terminal fee for the past 20 years, if I am not mistaken,” Mr. Bondoc said in an interview late last week.
“So, we are planning to increase that by P200 or P180. We have conducted the public hearing last April 26,” he said.
Based on the public hearing, Mr. Bondoc said tourists have been asking for improvements in the airports, such as air-conditioning facilities.
Aside from the Puerto Princesa airport, he said the CAAP has also set the hearing schedule for other airports.
“Every airport has a different proposed increase in terminal fee. We are also considering the opinion of the local politicians there while looking at how the purchasing power has changed,” he added.
Mr. Bondoc said there are 82 domestic airports that are under CAAP.
Only the three terminals of Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Clark, Mactan-Cebu International Airport, and Subic Bay International Airport are not under the CAAP.
Transportation Secretary Manuel A. Roxas II earlier announced that the P550 terminal fee for international flights in Ninoy Aquino International Airport might return to P750 per passenger amid the repairs in the airport, which have been described as one of the worst airports in the world.
Meanwhile, the following are proposed passenger service charges in various locations in the county that have airports:

• Puerto Princesa, Busuanga, Romblon, Cuyo (Up to P700 for international flights and P200 for domestic flights);

• Cagayan De Oro, Butuan, Ozamiz, Siargao and Surigao, Camiguin and Iligan, Malabang and Wao in Lanao del Sur (Up to P150 for domestic flights);

• Iloilo, Kalibo, Bacolod, Roxas and Antique (Up to 700 for international flights and P200 for domestic flights);

• Tagbilaran, Dumaguete, Ubay and Siquijor (Up to P150 for domestic flights);

• Zamboanga, Dipolog, Pagadian, Sanga-Sanga, Ipil, Jolo and Siocon (Up to P700 for international flights and P200 for domestic flights);

• Davao, General Santos, Cotabato, Tandag, Bisilig, Allah Valley and Mati (Up to P700 for international flights and P200 for domestic flights);

• Legaspi, Naga, Masbate, Virac, Daet, Bulan and Sorsogon (Up to P150 for domestic flights);

• Laoag, Tuguegarao, Basco, Baguio, Cauayan, Itbayat, Palanan, Bigan, Bagabag, Lingayen (Up to P700 for international flights and P200 for domestic flights.);

• Tacloban, Catarman, Calbayog, Ormoc, Biliran Hilongos and Maasin (Up to P150 for domestic flights);

• San Jose, Marinduque, Alabat, Jomalig, Lubang, Plaridel, Mamburao, Iba, Pinamalayan, Wasig, Calapan, Baler (Up to P150 for domestic flights).

With the BIR building, its my first on the list of the most beautiful modern building in the city..wait lang ta mahuman. nagbeams na bagan sila..They are occupying 1000 sq,m lot area.

That 1-hectare lot currently FOR SALE fronting the terminal can be a great area for codos, hotel, bpo and other commercial purpose basing on the zoning and land use map. Storage warehouses along the highway is not permitted anymore as decided by the zoning board especially businesses that need truck loading /unloading along highway.

SM ( or any mall) should consider Brgy, RIZAL as the best site since, it has a 2 alternative roads.

1. SURIGAO-LIPATA-RIZAL
2. SURIGAO-RIZAL ST.

unlike gaisano and central warehouse club, only the national highway ra. Amo inin an disapdvantage but still we cannot neglect the growing population in the area.

Davao Central Warehouse Club
Davao Central Warehouse Club is located in Agdao Davao City. As the name implies, it is a storehouse for merchandise and goods. A different kind of shopping mall that offers retail and wholesale products. It has a very wide supermarket and department store. Central Warehouse is also a main distributor of products and goods to a lot of convenient stores in Davao. Branched all over Mindanao, Davao Central Warehouse club is the place to go if you are up for great buys and affordable retail and wholesale prices.

Davao Central Warehouse Club in Davao - Philippines
Its where prices of commodity items are wholesale and its really an excellent place for business owners to shop the Davao Central Warehouse Club. Wed never miss it when were strolling busy streets of the Agdao and Poblacion Districts in Davao City.
Its where small store and grocery owners get real bargain prices for saleable items and make a killing re-selling them at retail prices. Davao Central Warehouse Club has everything we need from toothpicks to pens and tacks and clips, to toiletries, laundry and bath soaps, to cleaning implements and tools, hardware, food, clothes, to offices and school supplies, to sweets and candy and chocolate bars, among many others.

Not only business owners get to benefit from the cheap prices at Davao Central Warehouse Club. Folks who want to beat skyrocketing inflation may shop here and get household commodities at super low prices. This is especially favorable for big or extended families Filipinos are often fond of keeping.
Cooperative setups and other community organizations may also avail of the reasonable prices at Davao Central Warehouse Club for their members everyday material needs. Some people jam-pack their cars with loads of items bought from the warehouse, taking advantage of the parking space offered members. The more we buy from Davao Central Warehouse Club the better deal we get.
Just avail of the Davao Central Warehouse Club membership for a certain sum and the privilege of shopping and getting wholesale prices here are ours. With this setup we shop in bulk (not per piece), with the items already packed accordingly. The tip here is to shop for a number of people, not just individually. Hence, its ideal for coops, store and grocery owners, big families, and company canteens.
Some people share their Davao Central Warehouse Club membership privileges with other people and offer to include their shopping lists when they shop. This way they can afford to buy in bulk. Some people lend their membership card to family members and relatives.

Philex Mining posted an historic high first quarter revenue of P4.02 billion, 4 percent higher than the P3.86 billion recorded in the same period last year on the strength of gold and copper prices in the global market.

However, lower grade and metal recoveries at the Padcal Mine in Ben¬guet Province kept core net income steady at about P1.33 billion while reported net income was 3 percent lower at P1.27 billion from P1.31 billion last year.

Philex Mining chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan said the Company’s invest¬ment in its Silangan Project is neces¬sary for the long-term development of the Company.

Pagsubli-abli nan Nonoc nickel mining swerte!

I am just hoping na next time dili ang tana concentrated ani. wish lang na jaon sab hip-hop, folk dances and other dance genre and make it as the true DANCE FESTIVAL and must be participated by different schools sa tibuok province but of cors pinaka highlight ang showdown sa Surigao's Festivals. two thumbs up to Gov. Have you ever wondered why there are no SM malls in Zamboanga and Iligan cities? These two cities are highly-urbanized, with large inner city population and a big income. For 2010, Zamboanga City had more than 800,000 people and an annual income of 2.6 billion pesos while Iligan City had more than 300,000 people and an annual income of 1.2 billion pesos. I, too have been wondering. There are many smaller cities in the country that has an SM mall/s. I believe, this is my opinion, that the owners are worried of the peace and order situation in those areas. Those areas may be infested with rebels of all sorts like the Al-Queda, Abu-Sayaf, MILF, MNLF, NPA and other enemies of the state.

white ang Sajaw Surigao lagi is a SHOWDOWN of SURIGAO'S FESTIVALS

meaning ang tanan festivals sa kada munisipyo sa ato probinsya magshowdown diri sa syudad.

example: Bonok-Bonok Festival represents Surigao City. so in that day ipakita nan Surigao City kung uno ang Bonok-Bonok. same pud sa uban munisipyo kung uno ang festival sa ila lungsod ila sab ipakita, ipasundayag sa iton na adlaw.

Vital Siargao Tourism Projects Up

By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
May 9, 2012, 4:43pm
DAPA, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte – The convergence of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Department of Tourism (DOT) on the prioritization of various tourism infrastructure projects is intensified in an effort to provide more services to become globally competitive.

Already acknowledged as one of the world’s surfing and game fishing hub isthe “Paradise Island” of Siargao in Surigao del Norte, the DPWH-Siargao District Engineering Office (SDEO) and DOT in Region-13 have enhanced access roads leading to the tourism sites on the island.

The DPWH-SDEO is focusing on the completion of the Dapa-Union-Malinao-General Luna (Cloud 9)-Catangnan-Cabitoonan Road, and two bridges in the town of General, also Surigao del Norte.

These infrastructure projects are the backbone going to the various tourism sites of the island, officials said.

The DPWH also proposed tourism road projects that involve the improvement, concreting, and construction of bridges, and the construction of the Union-Malinao Bypass Road, also on this island.

Once completed, these projects will also provide safer and easy access to the various world-class beaches, resorts, and prime tourist destinations in the locality.

“The road project is also expected to provide smoother and easier access road to the famous Cloud 9 in General Luna town, which was recently recognized by an international cable news agency as the world’s 8th best surfing spot,” said SDEO District Engineer Salvador E. Montil Jr.

The SDEO is also concentrating on the completion of the improvement and concreting of the JCT. Osmena-Pilar Road, added Montil.

The island’s nine municipal mayors, Surigao del Norte 1st District Representative Francisco T. Matugas and his wife Governor Sol F. Matugas expressed heartfelt gratitude to the national government for appropriating additional infrastructure budget that is very vital in making the island more globally competitive in the filed of tourism.

At present, DPWH Region-13 Director Danilo E. Versola, and DOT-13 Director Letecia DC. Tan are closely coordinating for the completion of all identified tourism infrastructures in various parts of the region, especially in Surigao del Norte.

The convergence program that was developed by the DPWH and DOT aims to support the infrastructure requirements of the Tourism Master Plan.

A total of P70 billion was earmarked for the tourism roads for 2013, it was learned.

In a separate budget allocation, Congressman Matugas proposed some P802-million budget for 2013, in an objective to make the “paradise island” of Siargao as the country’s modern tourist destination.

The Surigao del Norte representative already made his strong endorsement recently, along with the powerful regional policy making body – the Regional Development Council – to the Department of Transportation and Communications for the approval of the budget proposal for next year.

Surigao Norte to hold ‘Pagkaong Surigaonon’ Food Fest
By Fryan E. Abkilan
Saturday 12th of May 2012

SURIGAO CITY, May 12 (PIA) -- Surigaonons and visitors will be treated to the locals’ purely distinct tasting dishes as the “Pagkaong Surigaonon” (Surigaonon Food) Food Festival will officially open on May 13-15, 2012 at the parking area inside the Provincial Sports Complex, this city.

According to Prov’l Economic Enterprise Development and Management Officer Graciela Mante, the event is one of the series of activities in celebration of the 111th Founding Anniversary of Surigao on May 15, showcasing the exquisite food expertise of the province’s very own Surigaonon caterers.

“Guests can witness their glamorous display and enjoy their sumptuous eat-all-you-can offer from Sunday, May 13 to Tuesday, May 15,” Mante said.

Meanwhile, Mante also urged representatives of each municipality to exhibit their cooking prowess as well as hotel and restaurant skills by joining the following contests on May 14 and 15 to include, Table Skirting, Table Setting, Flower and Fruit arrangement, Surigaonon Cuisine Cooking Contest, Gigaquit Rhum Mixing, Kinilaw Preparation, and Surigao Native Delicacies.

To register, Mante said they have to visit the PEEDM Office at the Provincial Sports Complex.

The event is proudly organized by the provincial government of Surigao del Norte headed by Gov. Sol Matugas in partnership with the Surigao Caterers’ Association. (FEA/PIA-Surigao del Norte)

The Palarong Pambansa 2012 held in Lingayen, Pangasinan ended disastrously for the Caraga Region which collected only 1 silver and 9 bronzes and garnering a total of 10 points only which was bad enough as the last placer (17th) among 17 teams. Next year's game will be held in the Visayas and in 2014 in Mindanao. Local officials will be busy for the 2013 elections, but we hope that newly elected officials by then should start working for the bid of Surigao City to host the 2014 games.

DepEd Caraga is to blame for this one.. they let the players train on the venue that host the latest Caraga Regional Athletic Meet (CRAM) which was Agusan del Sur..

RESULT of that TRAINING = DISASTER!!

Butuan City won the majority of the event in the last CRAM because of right training and right facilities especially in Taekwondo, Tennis, Gymnastics, etc..

Why such train in Agusan del Sur where they cannot give the right equipments and facilities? It should be better if they train in Agusan del Norte, Butuan City and Surigao City

agree. gawas pa ana grabe ka short-term ila training. dapat start of school year mag selection na then ipa-train ang mga bata every weekend. by the time mag sports camp training na pacngud sa event taas2 na an level of expertise sa mga bata.

problema sa deped kay entrahan sab nan politika an ila functions. :ohno:
