BDW, here's the article.. last year pa ni.
DOTC fast tracks P30.68-M Sayac Airport
The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) fast tracks the rehabilitation and expansion of the Php30.68-million Sayak Airport in Siargao Island, the surfing capital of the Philippines.
Leandro Mendoza, DOTC Secretary, said the expansion of the airport, one of the commitments made by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in one of her State-of-the-Nation-Address (SONA), will service direct flights from Manila.
Of the amount, Php10 million is for the apron expansion, taxiway and perimeter fence; Php10 million for the continuation of apron expansion, and widening of runway; and Php10.68 million for the construction of CHB fence and construction of VPA.
Mendoza said the runway will be expanded and will have an additional 150 kilometers.
In 2005, the amount of Php32.32 million were allotted for the construction of security fence and the putting up of CHB and vehicular fence.
The rehabilitation and expansion of the airport was made possible by the funding from the Office of the President.
Meanwhile, Keen Felipe, mayor of the municipality of General Luna in the island, said tourist arrivals in Siargao Island peak in September, when the annual international surfing competition is held.
He added the Philippine Airlines (PAL) has already expressed interest in operating flights to and from the new Sayak Airport when it opens next year.
Felipe said municipalities in Siargao would like to promote other tourists activities to cater to visitors that are not into surfing.
Some of the activities in the pipeline are snorkeling, scuba diving and island hopping.
A little over 100,000 tourists visit Surigao del Norte every year.
The old Sayak Airport stopped operating several years ago when the new airport in Surigao City was completed.
It used to service only small planes and mostly locals. (PNA)

Does anyone have an answer to the parking issue? When I attended the last Bonok Bonok, vehicles blocked most of the streets around the area and viewing was terribly limited.

@ BRICK nope..Its the house MG1 that we design in the picture above..The manager of DEDON just bought the house for 5M at an instant when he first saw it and tour around..He got this love at first sight with the house and of course inside are also his showcase of dedon furniture.....:) HE was also planning to buy MG2, that house i showed here before..
Kenneth, the great furniture designer based in the US..I also saw his works..We just recommend these furniture with the clients which the best for a modern interiors, but its really up to them if they will buy or not.. We have also line of furniture we design..
@ Reg, its actually Dark brown or wengue contrast with pure matte white and limestone clad walls..for the ceiling i recommend white flat finish with a nice halogen and coolwhite-light downlights :)...Best if you impart niches on the corners.:)

hw bad..If you really want to paint it just choose the class A paints, BOYSEN OR DAVIES PAint systems..Medu mahal pero subok na..You know the climate sa ato City..More moisture in the air could damage low end paints faster.. :bash: for instance, look at Absolute Essentials, City terminal, Etc..
If pwede, i may suggest just keep it as is. filino if madala pa..just improve the interior sa offices nalang. Paint it white with much cove lightings.. Ill just show you pictures.. The design of the buidling was the trend of the 80's and 90's its called international style. this includes brutalist..Known architects are Tadao Ando and Le courbusier..

Bricken Ridge March 6th, 2009, 09:26 AM @ BRICK nope..Its the house MG1 that we design in the picture above..The manager of DEDON just bought the house for 5M at an instant when he first saw it and tour around..He got this love at first sight with the house and of course inside are also his showcase of dedon furniture.....:) HE was also planning to buy MG2, that house i showed here before..
Kenneth, the great furniture designer based in the US..I also saw his works..We just recommend these furniture with the clients which the best for a modern interiors, but its really up to them if they will buy or not.. We have also line of furniture we design.....
OIC, boy you got me on the edge for the moment :)........anyways, like I said before, I'll have a crush on those house designs.......It's a little bit Frank Lloyd Wrightisshhhhh except that I like to see more cantilevering and some spacial drama......aha! O sigue..... Kenneth Cobonpue is one of my favorite designers..........does he have a showroom in Cebu?
Bricken Ridge March 6th, 2009, 09:32 AM I cant estimate mike coz we went there as a group and it only cost us 500.00each but we've got a free accomodations and foods.
for now with the rate that club tara has which is 12,000.00/pax atleast maybe you've got to have a lot in your pocket. :)
kung jaoy imo mga relatives in the area it will really help you a lot mike most particularly in finding a cheaper accomodation rates.
the best way to go there is to coordinate with the City tourism Office and Im sure Sir Rally will be happy to help you in that regard.

I am not running for Congress - Casurra
Surigao City Mayor Pons Casurra stressed yesterday he is definitely not running for Congressman in the next years’ election despite strong endorsements from many sectors.
Casurra said he will make formal declarations of political plans this month but running for a congressional seat is out of the picture. The city mayor did not explain why he was not interested to run for Congress but speculations are that either the seat has been reserved for a Barbers candidate like Robert Dean or a deal has been struck with Malacanang strategists to keep Casurra in good relations with Rep. Jun Romarate and Rep. Lalo Matugas.
There had been strong speculations in the past that the city mayor was the likely candidate who could give Romarate a run for his money in the solon’s re election bid next year.
The rumors died down down however when word got around that Casurra and Romarate continued to maintain good relations despite the worsening feud between the Barbers and the Matugas-Romarate tandem.
Reports also said that the Barbers brothers are trying to convince the City Mayor to run for Vice Governor in tandem with Gov. Ace Barbers.
Many observers predict that a Casurra declaration this month of his political plans will definitely preview which side of the political fence, Casurra will take in next years’ election.
As it is, there are some skepticism that the Casurra alliance with Barbers brothers will hold if the Barbers turn opposition party next elections.
Casurra, is dyed in the wool Arroyo loyalist and it was held unlikely he will go against the administration party.
Similarly, the planned merger of LAKAS and KAMPI nationwide was expected to be dumped in Surigao del Norte because of the intense political rivalry between the two parties. (IMPACT)

jsl_bxu1206 March 8th, 2009, 04:59 PM New Cebu Pacific route to boost Siargao tourism
Updated March 06, 2009 12:00 AM
CEBU, Philippines - After low cost airline Cebu Pacific (CEB) recently launched its thrice a week service from Cebu to Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte, local government units in the Mindanao province eyes a boost of its tourism activities as now more domestic and foreign tourists will have a faster alternative for travel.
The new route also paved way to the re-opening of the small Siargao airport in the municipality of Del Carmen, said its mayor Constantino Navarro IV in an interview during the Siargao- Cebu inaugural flight last Wednesday.
“Months ago, another low cost airline was flying in this route but it went off due to low passenger volume. But with this new route of Cebu Pacific, we are looking at bringing more tourists to Siargao so that they can participate in our three international sporting events like the International Women’s Surfing this April, International Game Fishing this May and the Men’s International Surfing Competition this September,” said Navarro.
Even the congressman of the first district of Surigao del Norte Francisco Matugas eyes positive prospects with the re-opening of the Cebu-Siargao route.
Matugas said that Siargao Island thrives on tourism and their tourism products are starting to peak in the world market however their major limitations consist of transportation and the new route will be a way to address this problem.
“We are grateful for the first commercial flight of Cebu Pacific to Siargao Island because this will further enhance and boost our tourism landscape and stimulate job employment. Siargao is a popular destination for surfers and we are so far developing this destination for another activity called game fishing,” said the congressman.
Matugas announced that to boost up flights going to Siargao, a new terminal will be put up and its runway will be extended to accommodate bigger planes and a fund of P20 million has already been released for this project.
Airport manager Gina Villamor said that other airline companies have come to her office with proposed interests to operate in the route but since they have limited capacity in their terminal shed, they were not able to accommodate all of them.
Currently, CEB is the only airline flying to the Cebu-Siargao route and this service operates every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the flight departs from Cebu at 10:45 am and arrives in Siargao at 11:55am while the return flight leaves at 12:45pm and reaches to Cebu at 1:25pm.— Rhia de Pablo

DAPA, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte – The economy in this paradise island of the Caraga Region will continue to improve following the scheduled construction of P25 million worth of structures by the middle of this year, it was learned yesterday.
It was gathered that about one hectare of land will be donated by the family of Rep. Francisco T. Matugas (Surigao del Norte) as the site for the construction of the new buildings to accelerate the delivery of services for the Siargaonons.
Among those to be constructed are P10 million division office of the Department of Education, and the P3.5 million district office building of the Land Transportation Office.
While a separate P10 million Siargao Manpower Training Center building will also rise in the area.
“Everything is in place now for the full development in this tourist destination island,” said Matugas, in an exclusive interview with Manila Bulletin.
He also said that the ground works of the P400 million various infrastructure projects pledged by President Arroyo is on-going without let up to cater to the needs of the influx of international and domestic tourists.
Meanwhile, local officials said that the Bucas Grande Island here is also expected to set up various structures to cater to the needs of both local and foreign tourists.
The island offers a lot of activities and adventures such as mountain-trekking, spelunking and boating.
along with great views of lagoons and beach resorts.
The local government unit along with resort developers are eyeing some areas in the island to establish structures to attract tourists.
Matugas said the local government of Socorro town in Bucas Grande Island, along with the tourism officials, are helping each other in looking for a place where the tourists will discover this scenic paradise.
In Pilar town, also of Siargao Island, is gearing up for the three-day 2nd International Game Fishing Tournament on May this year where President Arroyo will grace the tournament, said Matugas.

Bricken Ridge March 10th, 2009, 07:32 AM Haha.. mo lang! And i think they will still build and build and build there..That LTO building there just lock the circle..I really hate that building so as the people inside!! There buildings surround does not even unite or jive with the design provincial Hall not anticipating the call for parking and future expansion.. way site planning..so as the city hall area.. basta lang tukod ng tukod.. :ohno: Bagan hilig na an mga surigaonon nan huot! evrything in the city looks unspacious..The roads, The buildings, Pedestrians, bridges..Hope na this attitude will change..:ohno:
And I thought I was alone about this observation..... is there a city master planner who can monitor Surigao's development so it can match with its beautiful natural surroundings? "Ho-ot" can be cute kon gana an pagka-execute....not just build anything because there is money to spend.....Surigao really has the potential to stand out from the rest of the cities since it is still small......the city should stay small and compact and build very nicely designed buildings para guapa ba tan-awon. Boutique stores are better looking than a big building like a mall coz it has its charm...... Baguio City lost its charm after it transformed from a "cute" city to a major metropolis like Cebu and Davao....just an observation......

regjeex March 10th, 2009, 07:40 AM That's the problem of our city planning office.... and I agree with you that they must have a proper planning for extension or what not... good planner i think is palafox if im not mistaken.. They're the one actually build a very nice urban developments stuff like that....
Surigao should stay as cute, clean and green city...

I think Surigao has the potential to be a major convention city once the provincial convention center is finished. An mga delegates would be excited to come here for the R & R during or after their convention since Surigao has a waaaaaay lot to offer than Boracay, natural attraction-wise. We just need a couple more of at least 3 to 4 star rated hotels to support this. I think the market would be ripe for this.......we should give the mayor some unsolicited advice.......unless he already have this in mind but unable to execute..........

bricken Ridge, there's no convention center being constructed now. you might be talking about the Fully Airconditioned Prov. dashalvin March 10th, 2009, 02:47 PM Pilay seating capacity sa prov. gym? Jaun ba nay centralized aircon sa sulod?
SC_00 March 10th, 2009, 02:53 PM I think Surigao has the potential to be a major convention city once the provincial convention center is finished.
Well, tana sab e-renovate or e-relocate nila ang provincial convention center sa daku-dako na lugar.... gamay man ang convention center diri, jaon dapit sa capitol grounds...tana gajud bay-luan nila gajud jaon :ohno::bash:
SC_00 March 10th, 2009, 02:55 PM be-i :)
SC_00 March 10th, 2009, 03:02 PM And I thought I was alone about this observation..... is there a city master planner who can monitor Surigao's development so it can match with its beautiful natural surroundings? "Ho-ot" can be cute kon gana an pagka-execute....not just build anything because there is money to spend.....Surigao really has the potential to stand out from the rest of the cities since it is still small......the city should stay small and compact and build very nicely designed buildings para guapa ba tan-awon. Boutique stores are better looking than a big building like a mall coz it has its charm...... Baguio City lost its charm after it transformed from a "cute" city to a major metropolis like Cebu and Davao....just an observation......
Gana man ang gamay na lugar pero naa na tanan sanan dili kun gubot, kay pag-gamay ra, magka-hi-usa man ang mga tawo, walay gubot sanan magka-sinab-tanay.. mura ba ug usa ka pamilya...  bitaw.
