BULLDOG May 14th, 2009, 11:49 AM I've been to Danara this morning then have a short chat with the PAL Express Staff. they told me that Air Phil will no longer pursue there plan for Surigao-Manila-Surigao route kay tagbabagan daw ni Lucia Tan. The Taipan wants na PAL jud ang mo serve sa Surigao-Manila_Surigao and not Air Phil. Regarding sa daily passenger load nila, promising daw kaayo, fullybookd perme ang every flight or atleast more than 90% in every flight. this lately sige na sila mag denied boarding and under negotiation/study na ang Surigao-Cebu-Surigao nga flight for PAL Express.
Medyo sad news ini na update..........sayang excited paman ako sa byahe nan airphil. Pero ok basta an PAL mag serve nan flight using jet aircraft bisan kon pang alternate flight ra pwede na....

The new H1N1 flu virus could still mutate into a more virulent form and spark an influenza pandemic that could be expected to circle the globe up to three times, the World Health Organisation said on Tuesday. The Philippines is still free of the virus.

jsl_bxu1206 May 15th, 2009, 07:42 AM DBP approves P9.59-B fund for Roro projects Thursday, 14 May 2009 19:13
SIARGAO ISLAND, Surigao del Norte—State-owned Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) has approved the deployment of a total of P9.59 billion for projects under its Road Roll-On, Roll-Off Terminal System (RRTS), president and chief executive officer Reynaldo David said on Thursday.
The RRTS is a major component of the DBP’s Sustainable Logistics Development Program (SLDP) that is aimed at modernizing the country’s infrastructure and logistics system for the efficient transport of passengers and basic commodities.
The bank said another 41 projects totaling P5.86 billion were under evaluation.
Of the 20 new or missionary roll, on-roll off (Roro) routes identified by DBP, nine have been made operational through DBP financing, David said. The government aims to establish 49 Roro routes under its Strong Republic Nautical Highway project.
Most notable of these connections is a new route connecting the town of Pasacao in Camarines Sur to the provinces of Masbate and Romblon. The said route, which will be made operational this month, will connect Romblon to the Pan Philippine Highway.
David also said DBP is working on the acquisition of a Roro vessel that will ply the Calbayog, Northern Samar–Kawayan, Biliran, route. This will cut down travel time to Cebu City from Calbayog by more than two hours.
Other pipeline projects under the SLDP include shipyards in General Santos City and Cebu capable of handling 5,000 DWT (deadweight tonnage) and 2,500 DWT vessels, respectively, for a total project cost of P380 million. These shipyards will boost the local shipping industry’s capacity to construct and repair vessels, David said.
David and other key officials of the bank were in Siargao for the kick-off ceremonies for the annual “Ready, Set, Roro!” DBP interisland race, which runs from May 15 to 20.
Now on its fourth year, this outdoor adventure is part of DBP’s efforts to promote greater public awareness on the use of the Roro terminal system.
The event features 10 teams, with each team composed of two members and a celebrity participant battling it out for the P1-million grand prize.
This year’s race will feature hot summer destinations in 11 locations over six days—Siargao, Surigao del Norte, Leyte, Camotes Island, Cebu, Negros Occidental, Iloilo, Aklan, Oriental Mindoro, Batangas and Manila.
“With this activity, we want to show how the Roro has helped small and medium entrepreneurs in the transport of their commodities. We will also show how the tourism sector has benefited from the cheap cost of traveling via the Roro,” David said.
The teams will compete in a series of challenges at specific points along the race route.
After each leg, the team that incurred the lowest score or was last to finish a task will be eliminated, except on predetermined non-elimination legs. Only four teams will advance to the finals that will be held in Manila.

Miner to spend P3.5 billion in Mindanao project
by Surigao Today
A MINING venture led by Australia’s Red 5 Ltd. will invest P3.5 billion to start commercial operations in a gold mine in northern Mindanao, company officials said late Tuesday.
The mining permit holder Greenstone Resources Corp. will develop the 2,023.74-hectare Siana gold mine in the town of Mainit in Surigao del Norte, company managing director Greg Edwards said in a presentation to officials of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau last Tuesday
Construction will start before the end of the year after securing funds by June, the mining executive added.
Greenstone Resources is owned by Red 5, Merrill Crowe Corp., and Surigao Holdings and Investment Co.
The Siana gold project can produce 6.69 million metric tons of ore, with an average 5.2 grams of gold per metric ton, and equivalent to 1.122 million ounces of gold and 2.095 ounces of silver.
It is adjacent to the Boyongan copper and gold project of listed Philex Mining Corp., the country’s biggest miner.
"[Red 5] is a publicly listed company in Australia so 30% to 40% of the funds will be sourced from equity and roughly 60% to 70% from borrowings from financial institutions and [from] outside the country," Lolot Manigsaca, Philippine comptroller of Greenstone Resources, said in an interview.
The investment might go up to P5.8 billion to maximize the 12-year mine life. Taxes to be paid to the national and local governments are estimated to reach P6.8833 billion.
Employment will go up to 700 during the development phase and down to 500 during operations. The mine has 90 workers so far.
Mr. Edwards said Greenstone Resources had spent $30 million during the five-year exploration of the Siana mine, which had underground and open pit operations dating back to 1938. — Neil Jerome C. Morales, Business World

Hello ScReWfAcE,
this beach is Sinapyahan.
Nevertheless, your statements about the owners are completely wrong.
In reality it is as follows:
There are 5 ha Cocoslot with beach. This lot is split in 2 properties. One property has 1.5 ha and the other has 3.5 ha.
The small property belongs to your uncles and aunts and your uncle gave the property to your sister "collateral". Your sister is not the owner.
The big property has belonged to the grandmother to your 2nd cousin. In 2001 the property was sold to your 2nd cousin.
The sales advertisements on surigaoisland.com are unlawful. It would be better if this stopped.
@rally,
the illustrated bird of prey you cannot let fly simply.
He was robbed as a young chicken from a nest and has grown up since that time in captivity. I have taken this animal provisionally in my care, together with 4 other birds of prey. This is not quite easy, because these birds stand under protection of endangered species. One of the birds was very ill. He would not have survived without right medical care. I am really very happy that I could still help this bird.
I have got in touch with a rescue centre for birds of prey who are specified on reintroduction. There I will find out whether an reintroduction of the birds is possible. Nevertheless, I have only little hope, because these birds are tame and can't go hunting.
Unfortunately, still much more animals are in private hands, although this can be punished, actually, hard. Here it is to be worked urgently together with the DENR on reasonable solutions.

it was mentioned during the mining summit. tapos na ang feasibility study but due to financial crisis medyo ma delay ang development. the redering was even showed during the summit. the plant will be a lot bigger in palawan.

I completely agree. I spoke to the residents there- and anybody can put up a barong-barong as long as the kapitan will issue a permit- and it is free. Imagine if the kapitan issues 1000 permits a month! Hesusmaria, what's going to happen to the mangrooves? They even allowed this Daydream to cut lots of mature mangroove trees to put up this not so well maintained resort. The resort is falling apart and rotting. They are paying the government 10000pesos a month but I don't see a single mangroove tree planted for the wetlands restoration. As this is happening, another resort is being built across Daydream and it is owned by a certain Galinea? When I visited Daydream, it was sad to see human excreta floating along its moats and shanties literally beside and across the resort. I got more to say about this place but enough already with my nega observation. Glad to be back here at SSC.

The story is true Bricken but as to when the Supreme Court will come out with their decision that remains to be seen. There is actually no TRO but no decision yet. But all indications point to the invalidation of the creation of the Province of Dinagat Islands ( case of Sharrif Kabunsuan and the 16 munciaplities cum cities.)

rally May 19th, 2009, 05:18 AM Hello ScReWfAcE,
this beach is Sinapyahan.
@rally,
the illustrated bird of prey you cannot let fly simply.
Here it is to be worked urgently together with the DENR on reasonable solutions.
ooops, ajaw kamu pag away dire bahin sa lupa.:) anyway, hamok gajud land disputes diha with different claimants who are related to each other.

Hi rally,
You must not be worried about a possible quarrel.
Screwface is a good photographer and web designer, he will not damage his business by a public quarrel in a forum. Normally I regulate such a thing also privately. But here the public must be warned at least about it, this beach is not to be sell. Who tries to acquire this beach a lot of money loses.
I have also had the idea of a wild animal park. Nevertheless, I like no zoos.
There are several possibilities something to act. However, this lies in the judgement of the DENR and the local authorities. Because this region should develop touristically, a good chance exists to do something in this direction. I hope to be able to step with my stay in 10 weeks there with the responsible authorities in contact. I have invested for 5 birds of prey already more than 100,000 pesos. This will become in future absolutely still more, but in addition I also need a few rights. At the moment the position is only patient.
@ filino
Some pictures are older. Siargao Spirit is no more riding. In september I'll show you more actual pictures.

hello RonnieR and welcome to this thread. Nice to hear you enjoyed your visit to Dinagat Islands. The DOT can only do somuch wihtout the locals pitching in. But yes, i agree its a still undeveloped and undiscovered tourism potential.
thanks guys....sorry for late posting. Here are my photos of the beautiful islands of Dinagat...breathtaking. I forgot how many islets/islands does the province have.

banog May 19th, 2009, 11:28 PM You can organize some kind of an environmental group there. nothing grand, start with the children sa schools as they are more susceptible to new things and its their tomorrow at stake.
The thing is, Siargao has began to focus on physical development, it should learn from lessons of Boracay (what not to do) and Panglao (what to do).
Hmmm, let us know when you will be here in Surigao City Banog perhaps we can meet with the other forumer here.
Hi rally,
to organise a sort of environmental group, in it I have already thought. Whether school children or a sort of boy scout, maybe in cooperation with church, DENR or schools, there are many possibilities.
The priest in Del Carmen maintains a project with the youth. He gets the children out from the street and occupies them with sports events. I'm a sponsor of this projekt, so the first step to recruit the youth is already done.
Without acceptance of the inhabitants you can forget any kind of nature conservation.
I think there will be time for a meeting in Surigao. But first I will go to Davao. I want to visit the Philippine Eagle Foundation. I want to see a Philippine eagle in real.
@ filino,
what means the_islander "balwarte"? Is this the VIP place behind the captain of the Islander (Samuel Botona)?

Green Bank moving Siargao branch
by Surigao Today
Green Bank Inc. (A Rural Bank) will be relocating its Dapa branch in this island resort to the more populous market place and port area to accommodate its demanding client base as well as expanding micro-borrowers.
The new branch will be completed by March next year.
The present branch site is servicing at least a thousand bank clients covering the nine municipalities of Del Carmen, Gen Luna, Socorro Burgos, San Isidro, Sta. Monica, San Benito, Pilar, and Dapa.
“It will remain a microfinance-oriented branch,” Ronald B. Cabalan, branch manager told The STAR.
Its loan portfolio reflects that 70 percent are microborrowers while 30 percent are agri, personal, consumer and commercial.
Micro-borrowers range from sari-sari owners, eateries, fisherfolk, drivers/operators, and magbobote.
Cabalan explained that majority of micro-loans are characterized by weekly collections. The minimum amount of a microloan is P3,000.
The Siargao branch of Green Bank has 11 loan officers, with seven devoted to microfinance. Of the seven microfinance ‘specialists’, six have already undergone training with the Microenterprise Access to Banking Services (MABS) program.
The MABS program is run by the United States Agency for International Davelopment (USAID) and the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines (RBAP), with oversight from the Mindanao Economic Development Council (MEDCo).
Cabalan admitted that microfinance is successful in Siargao that it finances a large portion of their investments and banking activities.
Meanwhile, deposits taking continue to grow with its different deposit product including the Lata Savings focused on new savers and children. It merely requires a minimum P100 to open an account, although application of interest rates starts when the account reaches P500. The savings product comes with a passbook and lata (savings can in place of the piggy bank).
There is also Seed Savings, which comes in two variants, the goal data and goal amount. A minimum amount of P100 is also sufficient to open an account.
Green Bank also offers other bank products and services, such as mobile banking, and money transfer for remittances.
Green Bank is a rural bank with 41 branches and 72 kiosks nationwide, and more than P1.6 billion in total resources end of 2006. The bank serves more than 180,000 depositors and more than 60,000 borrowers. Its main thrust is microfinance services, aside from pension, salary, agricultural, commercial, and regular banking products.
Green Bank has been a MABS participating bank since 2000, and has disbursed more than 139,000 microenterprise loans totaling more than P2 billion. – TPT, Philstar

PDCC sa Surigao Norte mihimo ug lakang sa pagpanalipud sa mikaylap nga kaso sa AH1N1 virus
by Surigao Today
Hmmm, i kinda smell something fishy on this. While the lgus should be appluaded on its pro active stance on AH1N1 prevention, why spend 1M for IEC? Should they not focus on having the vaccines for AH1N1 as preventive measure ready and on hand? I believe all households have television sets and the media hype on AH1N1 has already created awareness among our communities. I hope maka realize na ang tanan nga dili pud bulok ang mga surigaonon nga dili kasabot unsa ang tinuod nga sitwasyon.

rally May 20th, 2009, 08:49 AM Hmmm, i kinda smell something fishy on this.

No this is the wrong place. I'll give you another chance. This next picture was taken one day before the first picture, on august 27 in 2007. It was the 157th ANUAL TOWN FIESTA of an important place in Fr. Toto's life.
It's not Del Carmen and I think on this photo you should recognise at least one other person.
