The news calls for a celebration for people who are not favorable of her. I have been hearing "not so good" rumors about how she manipulates the running of SMWD business. Someone whispered that she is one of the reasons of the "unrest" brewing at SMWD. Sssssh...rumor ra.

Raisey457 May 28th, 2009, 06:58 AM The gym is intended for basketball tournaments supposedly but it can also hold bigger events..As of the moment its the biggest gym structure being built inside the city..If you wanted a badminton court, it needed a different type of approach as of the desgn of the structure, facilities, and its orientation.. huot na ang complex, hanap nalang ta ug lain na site for that type of sport facility together with lawn tennis courts. Badminton is the most popular sport as of now which i also play.. I do hope na mabalik na sad an bowling sa aces..
My only point is this: they should have taken into consideration unsa ang sports facilities ibutang kay naghimo na lang man ug sports complex. Imagine what it cost the people of Surigao del Norte para ani nga sports complex unya pipila ra ka hut ong sa probinsya ang malingaw? Bitin. For Php305M.

ani lang ni o, gamay man gud ang area I mean dili gamay kaayo but not really that big also to accomodate all what we wanted. so dili jud ma accomodate ang tanan sports facilities na gusto nato even unsa pa kadako ang ato desire nga magtukod ta ani, magtukod ta ato or etc. wala man gani tarong nga parking area within sa sports complex nga importante kaayo kay limited kaayo ang area. thus, there was even a proposal before na ibaligya ang sports complex kay gamay lagi ang area ug mangita ug lain location outside sa city proper but everybody knws na dili pwede mahitabo ang plano nan local government amo nagpabilin did-on na location. i guess it's not really that bitin coz we can use naman the prov. gym as our venue for badminton, right? and looking all the structures/sports facilities within the area, i must say, it's just ok to spend millions basta nakita ang agi.

Expectedly momahal an tuition once the school becomes a university. rally May 28th, 2009, 10:04 AM Wondered if the tuition at SNC went up right after SPU took over?
it did but because it became a university. it merely followed the rising trend of the tuition fee. even if it did change into a university, it still would have increased.
regjeex May 28th, 2009, 10:08 AM Is this school accredited by AACUP III already? although kasama talaga ang physical sa requirements pero dapat kung anong meron ang school, kung nakapag provide ba ng high quality education, instructions and students. Its either, NORMISIST, SSCT and ung nasa tandag basta its good for the region na at least we have choices na rin. I am not biased because i am NORMIANS but based on my observations, NORMISIST has more advantages to become a university its because of its quality education or high standard. i really dont know the details on SSCT status as far as ther application for University is concerned but based on the information given to me by my friend working on that school "swerte lagi daw ang mo graduate this School Year kay University na sija" well, i hope so. and this moring as i have this short conversation with my officemate ni mmahal daw ang tuition from 3,000.00/sem nahimo na ug 8,000/sem kay university na daw mao nag increase na sila. mao ba????????

mike durero May 29th, 2009, 01:25 PM Sumitomo-led nickel venture to invest $3B
at Friday, May 29, 2009
JAPAN’S SUMITOMO Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and local holding firm Nickel Asia Corp. will put up a $3-billion nickel ore processing plant in northeastern Mindanao next year.
The joint venture partners will operate the nickel processing plant by 2013, Rogelio G. Cadano, technical services manager of Taganito Mining Corp., said yesterday in a presentation to Mines and Geosciences Bureau officials.
The $1.7-billion investment target set by the venture last year was almost doubled to $3 billion this year given an increase in expected mineral production to 45,000 metric tons of nickel per year, with 4,500 metric tons of cobalt, from the original 30,000 metric tons per year.
The ores to be processed will come from a 1,000-hectare nickel mine in the municipality of Claver in Surigao del Norte, Mr. Cadano said.
"The joint venture company with Sumitomo should be formed by the end of this year or early next year," said Antonio K. Espeleta, vice-president for operation of Taganito HPAL Nickel Corp.
Taganito Mining is a subsidiary of Nickel Asia. Sumitomo subsidiary Taganito HPAL will operate the $3-billion project.
Nickel Asia operates nickel mines Rio Tuba, Taganito in Surigao del Norte, Taganaan in Surigao City, and South Dinagat and Cagdianao in northern Mindanao.
"The Sumitomo group is preparing the feasibility study but there was a re-scheduling so it will be completed late this year or early next year," Mr. Cadano told reporters.
The Sumitomo-led venture will employ 4,000 workers during the development phase.
The number of workers, however, will go down to 1,300 during the 30-year operation to extract 150 million wet metric tons of nickel ore. Annual mining operation is estimated to cost $200 million.
The ores will be shipped exclusively to Sumitomo’s refinery in Japan, Mr. Espeleta said.
"By that time [of the operation], prices of nickel might have already increased," Mines bureau Director Horacio C. Ramos said. — Neil Jerome C. Morales, Business World

at Saturday, May 30, 2009
Local officials, beach resort owners, residents, surfers, and environmentalists have banded together to promote local surfing and environmental protection to preserve the coastal area of San Juan town in La Union and other surfing sites in the country.
Stakeholders led by San Juan Mayor Ruben Valero Jr. have joined the Green Zinc Clean Shores Philippines Inc., a non-government organization, to raise funds and educate residents of coastal villages and tourists to help clean up the beach and control marine pollution caused by raw sewage from households.
Danish citizen Uffe Konig, 67, co-owner of the Little Surfmaid Resort in Barangay Urbiztondo, San Juan, said Green Zinc helps promote environmental consciousness among residents and local and foreign tourists who go to San Juan to learn how to surf.
“San Juan, which is about five hours’ drive from Manila, has become a favorite tourist destination in the north in the past several years because of the unending waves that made the coastal town famous for surfing,” said Konig.
He said Little Surfmaid, like other resorts in San Juan such as Sebay Resort Hotel, San Juan Surf Resort, and Monaliza Resort, offers surfing lessons to beginners.
Konig, a former official of the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), is also the liaison officer of Green Zinc Clean Shores, which is devoted to keep the beaches of the Philippines clean and beautiful. Konig, Australian expat Chris Sullivan, presidential daughter Luli Arroyo, and Luigi Bernas organized Green Zinc in 2007.
Sullivan, Green Zinc president, said the group coordinates with the local government and residents to raise awareness, organize volunteers to clean up the beach, and raise funds to help communities sustain their own commitment to clean the shoreline.
The organization has donated a garbage truck and trash bins for the beach. It spearheads the fund-raising drive through the sale of Green Zinc t-shirts and getting corporate sponsors for surfing tournaments.
Sullivan, who is also a surfer, said Green Zinc has coordinated with the La Union Surf Club, which is composed of 70 local surfing instructors, to clean up the beach every Friday.
He said they would also construct public toilets with running water and septic tanks that local settlers could use to prevent the dumping of raw sewage into the South China Sea.
Arroyo, external relations officer of Green Zinc, said the group is now embarking on an information campaign to further educate the residents of San Juan and other coastal villages to be concerned about the preservation of the environment.
Aside from San Juan, she said the organization also targets Siargao in Surigao del Norte, Baler in Aurora, Daet in Camarines Norte, Zambales and other surfing areas in the country.
“If they (residents) don’t take care of the beach, it’s their loss. The local community is the main component and the project will only be successful if the local government unit and the local community invest their effort in it,” said Arroyo, who has been surfing for the past four years.
Sullivan said the San Juan municipal government has recognized Green Zinc’s efforts by giving the organization the Baratao Award last Dec. 27 for “providing sustainable development along the surfing area in Barangay Urbiztondo, (which) vis-a-vis solid waste management, clean-up activities and tourism-related projects, is a priceless contribution and meritorious support in the development of the municipality of San Juan to be a better place to live in and as a world-class tourist destination.”
Lemon Dines, president of the La Union Surf Club, said the surfing instructors do not only teach tourists how to surf, but also remind them to keep the beach clean.
Omar Gandabali, a surfing instructor and official of the Little Surfmaid Resort, said local and foreign surfers as well as residents have become more conscious of the environment since the surfing club joined the clean-up program. (news and photo from philstar.com)

49 Surigao Norte farmers receive land titles
at Sunday, May 31, 2009
The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of the province in coordination with the Office of the Land Registration Authority made last Thursday, May 28, 2009 another round of land title distribution to the farmers of Brgy. Mahanub, Gigaquit town, this province.
Initially, some 49 farmer beneficiaries received their respective land titles in line with the celebration of the National Flag Day.
The said activity implies significant feat on the part of the patent beneficiaries in their quest to acquire land patent/title over the land they tilt in order to have an absolute ownership on the same parcel of land.
Mr. Vicente L. Sembrano, Land Management Officer III of PENRO Surigao del Norte, in his message explained the mechanics in the acquisition of land title and its importance. Accordingly, their office offers technical assistance in the form of a Public Land Survey and Patent Processing activity until finally to patent issuance.
Meanwhile, Atty. Edilberto T. Ensomo, of the Land Registration Authority, explained the importance of land title, and according to him patents must be properly kept to avoid intentional losses and deterioration.
Gigaquit Mayor Carlos M. Egay, Sr., on the other hand, explained the importance of the National Flag in our existence.
"There is a must for respect of our flag as this symbolize the patriotic act of our heroes in search for independence and further stress the value of land title geared toward development especially in needs of our government improvement," Egay said.
Also, CENRO Eutiquio M. Bade, Jr. of CENRO-Surigao City, in his short message expressed his appreciation for the cooperation extended by the barangay officials of the said locality and for making the event successful. (DENR/PIA-SdN

mike durero June 1st, 2009, 01:21 PM NFA strategically positions rice stocks for rainy months
at Monday, June 1, 2009
National Food Authority (NFA) administrator Jessup P. Navarro on Saturday said the agency’s regional offices have speeded up positioning of rice stocks across the country in preparation for the rainy season.
Navarro said with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announcing the end of summer, the positioning of government stocks is a top priority for rice deficit areas and island provinces prone to calamity and isolation during the rainy months.
"With the country's archipelagic nature, it is important to maintain sufficient rice supply in its more than 7,000 islands, majority of which are populated," he said in a press statement.
The NFA is also intensifying its rice distribution activities by tapping the private sector and directing the arrival and unloading of rice imports in various disports across the country.
A long range plan is the continuous establishment of storage facilities including satellite warehouses in several islands to serve as rice depots supplying adjacent islands. Examples are the on-going construction of the 30,000 bags capacity warehouse in Dinagat island and the 15,000-bag capacity satellite warehouse in the island of Siargao, both in Surigao del Norte.
Meanwhile, Navarro said the major rice consuming areas and urban cities received most of the imported rice allocations. Metro Manila got 28 percent of the total imports while the cities of Cebu and Davao/General Santos got 17 and 12 percent each. Subic received 10 percent of the imports allocation.
As of the third week of May, a total of 349,600 metric tons or close to seven million bags of rice have already arrived in Manila and another 120,250 MT or 2.4 million bags in Subic in Zambales.
For rice import allocations for Visayas and Mindanao, 113,350 MT or 2.3 million bags have reached Cebu, 72,850 MT in Davao or 1.4 million bags, and 41,150 MT or 823,000 bags in General Santos City.
Navarro said the rice importation and intensive palay procurement during the last main harvest and during the summer crop have effectively augmentedthe NFA's rice inventory.
As of the third week of May, the NFA has some 23.6 million bags of rice which will be sufficient for the next five months based on the agency's average daily rice sales of 148, 377 bags. The volume is equivalent to 34 days food security requirement based on the country's daily need of 35,000 metric tons.
To further improve its grains inventory this year, the NFA is targeting to buy 18.5 million bags of palay higher than the 13.2 million bags of palay procured in 2008.
Agriculture Secretary Arthur C. Yap stepped up efforts to increase domestic palay production last year following a supply shortage that pushed prices of the Filipino staple up.
The DA's implementation of the Fields program which has encouraged farmers to plant palay also improved the country's production of the staple. FIELDS stands for fertilizer, irrigation, extension, loans, dryers and other post harvest facilities and seeds. - GMANews.TV
mike durero June 1st, 2009, 01:22 PM Gob. Barbers gisiguro ang pagprotiher sa mga Kabataan; Provincial Search for Outstanding Municipal Council for the Protection of Children gilusad
at Monday, June 1, 2009
at Tuesday, June 2, 2009
THE prosecution in the seven-year-old parricide case against Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association divine master Ruben Ecleo Jr. is hoping that the new judge who would be assigned today to the case would be able to resolve the motion to cancel Ecleo's bail.
The Supreme Court in a resolution dated April 15, directed Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Meinrado Paredes to “immediately raffle” Ecleo's case to one of Cebu City's judges after granting the motion for inhibition of Judge Geraldine Faith Econg of Branch 9.
Paredes of Branch 13 will preside over the regular raffling of cases this 3 p.m.
Among those who might be able to handle the Ecleo case are RTC Judges Raphael Yrastorza, Silvestre Maamo, Gabriel Ingles, Simeon Dumdum, Sylva Paderanga and Soliver Peras.
Drugs, family and commercial courts are excluded from handling Ecleo's case as well as Judges Estela Alma Singco and Douglas Marigomen because they are already loaded with cases.
Ecleo was accused of killing his wife Alona Bacolod by strangulation inside their home in Banawa, barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City on Jan. 5, 2002.
Her remains were found inside a plastic bag dumped in a ravine in Dalaguete town, Cebu three days later.
Six judges including Econg have inhibited from handling the parricide case against Ecleo, a former mayor of San Jose town, Dinagat Island in Surigao del Norte.
Other judges who have inhibited from the case were Galicano Arriesgado, Olegario Sarmiento, Generosa Labra, Anacleto Caminade and Ireneo Lee-Gako.
Labra of Branch 23 granted a P1 million bail on Ecleo who was described to be a “walking time bomb that might drop dead anytime,” referring to Ecleo's heart condition.
Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Cebu City Chapter President Michael Yu said he is hoping the truth will finally come out and justice will be served.
“I hope the case will be moving after it will be re-raffled,” Yu said.
He said the IBP will continue supporting the prosecutors of the case. (Cebu Daily News/Reporter Ador Vincent S. Mayol)
