april@aries July 8th, 2009, 02:51 AM The Most Memorable Moments From The Michael Jackson Memorial
Posted Tue Jul 7, 2009 2:06pm PDT by Michael Krumboltz
Below are several of the biggest moments from Michael Jackson's memorial. Some are light-hearted, some are heart-breaking, but all are memorable..
Brooke Shields, a very good friend of Jackson's, shared some of her favorite memories. Ms. Shields choked up a bit at the end of her speech, giving a voice to many in the audience and at home who must have felt the same way. .
The Reverend Al Sharpton credited Jackson with demolishing racial barriers. Sharpton also called on fans to not focus on the scars of Jackson's career, but to focus on the journey. To Jackson's kids he said: "There wasn't nothing strange about your daddy.".
Magic Johnson's humorous story about how he was shocked to discover that a huge star like Michael Jackson enjoyed Kentucky Fried Chicken gave fans an insider's glimpse into an unknowable icon..
With all the star-power in the room, it was less expected that a 12-year-old from the U.K. would make a huge impression at the memorial, but Shaheen Jafargholi's performance of the Jackson 5's "Who's Loving You" inspired a raucous round of applause..
Jennifer Hudson is no stranger to tragedy. Perhaps that's why her performance of "Will You Be There" came across as one of the memorial's most special moments..
Michael's brother Jermaine Jackson performed MJ's favorite song: "Smile." The lyrics were especially poignant: "Smile, what's the use of crying/You'll find that life is still worthwhile/If you just smile." .
Perhaps the most touching moment came at the very end of the memorial when Michael's daughter, Paris, expressed her love for her late father..

RP to get €170-M loan from French government to build modular ports
MANILA is set to get its loan from the French government anytime this month to build dozens of modular ports all over the country, but Malacañang will have to decide where to place these facilities.
Philippine Ports Authority general manager Oscar Sevilla said they expect the €170-million government-to-government loan, or about P11.7 billion, to be released anytime this month or in August by French bank BNP Paribas.
Sevilla said the PPA needed quick approval and disbursement of the loan as it will build an initial six ports this year, and these should be done before the election ban on government infrastructure projects that will set in by November this year.
“We have submitted to Malacañang a list of areas where we intend to build the port. It is up to them [President Arroyo] where will they place them [modular port],” Sevilla said.
He said the PPA is looking at a total of at least 72 ports that will be rolled out in the next four years.
“We have submitted the list of 66 areas which need new ports and 44 ports for improvement,” he said.
The PPA said it is the only agency that will implement the project, since the Department of Transportation and Communications is the main proponent of the loan in behalf of the Philippine government.
The provinces that were earlier identified to set up modular ports include Isabela, Aurora, Pangasinan, Quezon, Romblon, Mindoro, Cavite, Palawan, Masbate, Albay, Eastern Samar, Surigao del Norte, Davao and Cotabato.
The idea of rolling out of modular ports was hatched during the visit of President Arroyo to Spain in 2007. The loan was supposed to come from the Spanish government, in the form of official development assistance, but Sevilla said the plan fizzled out.
Most of the structures of the modular ports are made of steel and the ramp can be adjustable. It can be built within one to two months depending on the size, with each facility costing between P50 million and P150 million.
The PPA said the port can last between 30 to 50 years.
Such technology is relatively newer in the industry as only a few countries are using it, which includes Russia, Sevilla said.
“It’s cheaper because I remember our ports from JBIC [Japan Bank for International Cooperation] cost about P150 million per port,” Sevilla earlier said.
BNP Paribas opened a representative office in Manila in 1975, and two years later it became a licensed offshore banking branch.
The BNP Paribas Manila offshore branch offers a broad range of products and services to its institutional clients, including interest-rate and foreign-currency hedging, bond underwriting, loan syndication, project finance, leverage and acquisition finance, and commodity derivatives.
Its Manila branch takes full advantage of BNP Paribas’s worldwide network, the company said on its web site. (Business World)

lisod lagi na CebuPac bai kay tungod sa ato runway. gustohon man nila nga Airbus dili jud pwede gawas kung sugalan nila ang mga ristrctions. runway extension ra jud ang tubag or relocation of the entire airport for a long term solution sa problem.

filino July 8th, 2009, 10:09 AM may explanation bai sa airline thread na that number of distance from surigao-cebu waya na mag require nan more fuel to be loaded sa plane kay suod raman. basta something like that na explanation so gaan ra ang plane kay dili man fully loaded kay ang fuel man ang mas nakabug-at daw. so bagan pwede jud maka land ang CebuPac. naniid pa lang siguro sila sa market. and for PAL once ma established na nan Airphil ang market siguro ila na sab ini bijaan ug PAL na ang mo takeover samea nahitabo sa Ozamis.

rally July 8th, 2009, 10:18 AM as for the airport expansion, even if the DOTC whihc is primarily in cahrge of these facilities with their million if not billion pesos budget cannot do it, how do you expect the LGU with its limited budget to be able to undertake the expansion. We are not even a 1st class city. Thats not a priority sa LGU budgeting. as for the ports, inday inin CAAP pildi man nan PPA sa development of ports in the provinces. its not only surigao city airport which is ill equipped for big birds.

i agree with you sir. ang ako ra lamang kalibgan uno may rason nan mga taga DOTC na they kep on expanding and renovating those airports na capable na to cater big aircafts. why not expand those domestic airports with greater potential just like ours. sample ha, Gen. SAntos City is again expanding/renovating their international airport to think na waya gani daw international flights. ang PAL once daily ra ang flight going to Manila "amo ba?" anyway, basta dili ing-ana kahamok ang flights nila. nakalabay ko ganina sa airport. knowing that the lenght of our runway is only 1.7 to 1.9 and the required lenght for Airbus or other jets is 2 km, pwede pa gajud baja ma extend ato runway. dako-dako pa ang madyaganan to make it atleast 2 km. not unless ang DOTC dili gusto paliton ang mga private lands na pwede malakip sa extension. but once ang gobyerno na ang mogamit siguro wala namay mahimo ang mga private land owners nan iton. i guess, dako ang matabang nan City Government on this matter labi na ang acquisition of those private lands. ma extend pa gajud sija IMO. sayang dili nato maklaro sa google para ato tanan ma post diri ang picture.

Jolo Airport in Philippines gets makeover
http://www.worldinteriordesignnetwork.com/news/jolo_airport_in_philippines_gets_makeover_090707
Published:07-July-2009
By WIDN Staff Writer
Jolo Airport in Sulu, Philippines is receiving a $3 million renovation and makeover, slated for completion by August 2009.
Jolo Airport serves the general area of Jolo, located in the province of Sulu. It is the only airport in the province. Once the renovation is complete, huge planes such as Boeing 737s and cargo aircrafts will be able to fly from and land safely at the airport. Airport authorities expect that this will promote trade and commerce in the area.
The $3 million renovation project which started in 2008 is fully funded by the US. The renovation has enhanced the 1,800-meter runway to more than 2,000 meters. This is intended to accommodate bigger passenger planes from neighboring countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei.
The airport is classified as a secondary airport, or a minor commercial domestic airport, by the Air Transportation Office, a body of the Department of Transportation and Communications that is responsible for the operations of not only this airport but also of all other airports in the Philippines, except the major international airports.
filino July 9th, 2009, 02:53 AM tana ang tanan city ug provincial officials mobasa sa ato diri so they will know kung unsa ang needs ug mga opinion sa uban ug dili lamang sa ila mga political advisers na jaoy mga self interest ra usab.
rally July 9th, 2009, 02:55 AM if you could see and confront the various matters that needs the attention and funding of the LGU, you will come to the same conclusion as those in the LGU, that the airport expansion is the least of their worries.

mike durero July 9th, 2009, 04:58 AM Executive order signed for Kadayawan committee
by Carlo P. Mallo
Sun.Star Davao
IT'S all set for the Kadayawan 2009 as Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has signed executive order 13 convening the local government unit and the private sector for the festival in August.
"The city mayor has already signed executive order number 13, which creates the steering committee for the Kadayawan," Councilor Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz announced on the weekly television program Gikan sa Masa Para sa Masa.
The city mayor will be the chair for the Kadayawan this year, while businessman Lorenzo Te will be the co-chair representing the private sector. Vice mayor Sara Duterte will be the vice chair.
It is not clear, however, how much budget has been approved by the city mayor for the festival, as it was not mentioned by Dalodo-Ortiz.
In a previous interview, City Tourism Office chief Rizal Giovanni Aportadera said they are asking for a budget ranging from P9 million to P12 million for the week-long festival, which will kick off on the third week of August.
The Kadayawan is the biggest and grandest festival in Davao City, earning it the moniker "the festival of festivals."
"We have already prepared the groundwork, it's all prepared," Aportadera said.
As always, the highlight of the festivities will be the Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan or street dancing and the grand floral float parade, together with the Lumadnong Kasaulugan and the Lumadnong Kagikan which focuses on the culture of the indigenous people of Davao City, showcasing their dances and songs.
The festival is also expected to draw one of the biggest numbers of tourists for the city this year.

april@aries July 9th, 2009, 05:02 AM IS BOTTLED WATER UNSAFE?
Consumers know less about the water they pay dearly for in bottles than what they can drink almost for free from the tap because the two are regulated differently, congressional investigators and nonprofit researchers say in new reports.
Both the Government Accountability Office and the Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit research and advocacy organization, recommend in reports released Wednesday that bottled water be labeled with the same level of information municipal water providers must disclose.
The researchers urged Americans to make bottled water "a distant second choice" to filtered tap water because there isn't enough information about bottled water. The working group recommends purifying tap water with a commercial filter, however.
Both reports were released at a congressional subcommittee Wednesday morning.
Bottled water — an industry worth about $16 billion in sales last year — has been suffering lately as colleges, communities and some governments take measures to limit or ban its consumption. As employers, they are motivated by cost savings and environmental concern because the bottles often are not recycled.
Bottled water sales were growing by double-digit percentages for years and were helping buoy the U.S. beverage industry overall. But they were flat last year, according to trade publication Beverage Digest.
Beverage Digest editor John Sicher said some consumers are turning on the tap during the recession simply because it's cheaper.
From 1997 to 2007, the amount of bottled water consumed per person in the U.S. more than doubled, from 13.4 gallons to 29.3 gallons, the GAO report said.
The issue before a subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee was less about waste and water quality concerns and more about the mechanics of regulating bottled water.
As a food product, bottled water is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration and required to show nutrition information and ingredients on its labels. Municipal water is under the control of the Environmental Protection Agency.
The two agencies have similar standards for water quality, but the FDA has less authority to enforce them, the GAO said, and the environmental agency requires much more testing.
Subcommittee chairman Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., said the subcommittee was requesting information Wednesday from a dozen bottled water companies on their water sources, treatment methods and two years' results of contaminant testing. It was not immediately clear which companies were being contacted.
"Consumers may not realize that many regulations that apply to municipalities responsible for tap water do not apply to companies that produce bottled water," he said in statements opening the hearing.
The GAO noted the FDA has yet to set standards for DEHP, one of several chemicals known as phthalates that are found in many household products, while the EPA limits the presence of phthalates in tap water.
In a survey of officials in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, the GAO found they think consumers are misinformed about bottled water.
"Many replied that consumers often believe that bottled water is safer or healthier than tap water," according to the GAO report.
The Washington, D.C.-based Environmental Working Group said in its report that consumers do not get enough information to determine which water is best for them.
Both groups said some bottled water brands include the same information required of tap water providers on either labels or company Web sites.
The GAO called for more research but said the FDA should start by requiring that bottled water labels tell consumers where to find out more.
Community water systems must distribute annual reports about their water's source, contaminants and possible health concerns.
Consumers should know where all their water comes from, how it is treated and what is found in it, said Richard Wiles, senior vice president for policy and communications for the Environmental Working Group.
"If the municipal tap water systems can tell their customers this information, you would think that bottled water companies that charge 1,000 times more for this water could also let consumers know the same thing," he told The Associated Press.
The bottled water industry's trade group, the International Bottled Water Association, planned to testify Wednesday that the product, — subject to the same regulation as other soft drinks, teas, juices and other beverages — is safe. Additional standards apply for bottled water products labeled as "purified water" or "spring water," among other labels, because they must prove a connection to those sources, according to planned testimony from Joseph Doss, president and chief executive of the International Bottled Water Association.
Doss said consumers can learn about bottled water by contacting the company, reading its Web site and visiting sites run by state governments.
State safeguards for bottled water often exceed the federal, though they are less stringent than for tap water, the GAO wrote.
The trade group declined to comment on the reports before they are released.
