Hi everyone! Musta?...I agree that changes within us are needed to make positive changes. However, i also believe that most people are a bunch of puppets, who can be easily influenced, manipulated and controlled. What i am trying to say is that changes within us is possible, but at the same time, it is also impossible. But again, is there really any other way?
So where do we begin? We should educate our children about the importance of choosing the right leader. What else can we do? Also educate the adults that taking money during elections is only a short term answer to our problems and progress will never be achieved if we continue to have this type of mindset.
Where do we go from here? What can this forum do? We need to speak up, and literally voice out our opinions. I believe that we should act and try to make something happen. I know it's easier said than done, but someone has to step up, and i believe that there are a number of people here who has what it take to light that fire.

Posting oneliners and smiley responses, or greetings and salutations (ie: Good AM/PM, gtg/brb, etc.) that are otherwise irrelevant to the thread's subject matter. Sometimes I think people just are postwhores and want to increase their postcounts by doing such things, which is also inconsequential because once the thread is closed and archived, everyone's postcount drops anyway.

Thats actually a common term used in scc lingo, in the same way as CAMWHORES is another ssc slang. That was actually said in jest and with humor, it was not meant to be offensive. although i do understand the reaction nan ato mga kaibanan dire kay mga bag-o pa man gud.

Tip for the newbies. Try checking out the samahan threads and read the different threads there so you can get a feel of the ssc speak, slang etc. That is what i did. you will also get to know the mods.

i can remember tha wonderful experience i had when science high for the first , joined the bonok bonok festival.I was third year back then, i was one of the dancers..grabe adto kalingaw kay gikuyawan an taga surstact ( randels group) that time dili sila kadaog because we have the crowd applauding and cheering, our performance was also outstanding..we won the best in costume and most descipline group adn the second prize...Laong nan iban tsupi daw that we shoud have won the grand prize..:nuts:

On the next bonok bonok festival, nagchampion na dajun an science high with the help of randel, surigao's famous choreographer..:lol:

Surigao del Norte town aiming to become Southeast Asia’s game-fishing capital

SIARGAO Island, Surigao del Norte—A sleepy community of barely 10,000 people, Pilar town and its people have big dreams—to become the game-fishing capital of Southeast Asia, if not Asia itself.

With the support of the national government and the Department of Tourism (DOT), the people of Pilar are pooling their resources, bayanihan- style, to lure tourists. Some 27 homes in the town have signed up for the town’s home-stay program, which allows tourists to live with local families and experience rural life in Pilar while enjoying the town’s outdoor adventures.

The program started a year ago, when the town hosted the first Siargao game-fishing tournament. Without hotels and pension houses, town mayor Lucio Gonzales rallied the residents to open up their homes to their local and international guests. The DOT pitched in, identifying 16 houses which became recipients of a P75,000 grant to renovate their houses.

“We had nothing to offer, but our hospitality,” Gonzales said. The 2009 version of the game-fishing event drew anglers from Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Russia, Taiwan and the United States to compete with local anglers from all over the country.

The event was opened by President Arroyo. This year’s winner caught a 120-kilogram marlin just off the coast of Siargao.

One of the participants of the home-stay program was Carmencia Umbros. Although Umbros did not get the cash assistance, she opened up her three rooms to a delegation from General Santos City, who stayed in her house for two consecutive game-fishing tournaments.

“They liked it here the first time so they contracted me to host them again in May this year,” Umbros, a retired public-school teacher, said.

Her brother-in-law across the street just finished installing air-conditioning units in a room and is wrapping up a paint job, courtesy of the cash assistance from the DOT.

For P1,200 a day, Umbros’s house offers an air-conditioned room and full board meals plus a little extra.

“When the anglers come home from a day at the sea, I could not allow them to go to bed hungry so I cook for them,” Umbros said. “As with men, there should be unlimited rice.”

Mayor Gonzales said Pilar wants to show the other side of Siargao aside from the now world-famous surfs of Cloud 9.

“Our fishing grounds are perhaps the richest in the country,” he said. “Our dream is to be the fishing capital of Southeast Asia.”

With a community like Pilar and residents like Umbros, the dream may not be that far from becoming a reality.

DOH Caraga chief calls on public to be cautious

Director Leonita Gorgolon of the Department of Health (DOH) Caraga calls on the public, especially the students to be cautious and to properly observe quarantine measures of the government, during a press conference recently.

“The public, especially the students should understand the importance of the quarantine, what they need to do during quarantine period,” says Director Gorgolon.

Director Gorgolon said that the media could help well in this endeavor by communicating to the public what quarantine means.

Director Gorgolon added that there is a need for the public to acquire increased understanding on what is A/H1N1 such as quarantine procedures, a gap the media could fill.

The comment came following media queries of Agusan National High School’s (ANHS) participation in the Adlaw Hong Butuan celebration even if they are quarantined.

ANHS suspended their classes for ten days following A/H1N1 infection of some of its students.

DOH Caraga called for a press conference amidst reports of increasing number of A/H1N1 cases in the city.

Director Gorgolon confirmed that there is indeed an increasing number of A/H1N1 infection in the region but it does not yet reach an alarming state and the cases are curable.

As of August 4, there are already 50 confirmed cases of A/H1N1 infection in the region. Most of those who are affected are students. 28 of the cases are females and 22 males. The most affected age group is 11-20.

In Caraga, Butuan has the highest number of infections with 29. Agusan del Norte has 6. Agusan del Sur has 8. Surigao del Sur has 1 and Surigao City, 6 cases.

The A/H1N1 infection in the region started last May 23. Since then there are already 104 cases under observation. 44 of these were negative of A/H1N1. 9 have no laboratory results yet and 50 were diagnosed positive of A/H1N1. i can remember tha wonderful experience i had when science high for the first , joined the bonok bonok festival.I was third year back then, i was one of the dancers..grabe adto kalingaw kay gikuyawan an taga surstact ( randels group) that time dili sila kadaog because we have the crowd applauding and cheering, our performance was also outstanding..we won the best in costume and most descipline group adn the second prize...Laong nan iban tsupi daw that we shoud have won the grand prize..:nuts:

On the next bonok bonok festival, nagchampion na dajun an science high with the help of randel, surigao's famous choreographer..:lol:

A day-long festival highlighting the annual city fiesta celebration. The main feature is the Bonok-bonok, an ethnic Mamanua (IPES) dance performed by the natives during thanks giving, worship and wedding ceremonies.

The introduction to the celebration of the Maradjao-Karajao Festival is the Bulawanon Barangay "Bulawanon" means beautification. Before the Bonok-bonok festivity held, preliminary contest between the 22 barangays of Surigao City and 9 coastal barangays is ongoing to highlight the month-long festivity that livens up to the household of each respective family of Surigao City.

Other activities are street dancing participated by different private government groups using creative costumes, huge floats and entertaining chanting "Viva Señor San Nicolas! Viva Maradjao Karajao!".

Tourism potential aside, Surigao is more importantly home to one of the country's most colorful tribes, the Mamanwas. Known for their creative patterns, brass jewelry and indigenous crafts, the Mamanwas fill the streets dancing during the Bonok Bonok Maradjao Karadjao festival on September 9. Celebrated on the occasion of the feast of San Nicolas de Tolentino, the Bonok Bonok shows the natives' gratitude to their animistic gods for a bountiful harvest and good health.

A collection of antique archaeological diggings like burial coffins jars and antique Chinese kitchen wares discovered in Panhutungan, Placer is on public display at the Surigaonon Heritage Mini-Museum situated at the Boulevard in Surigao City.



HISTORY OF BONOK-BONOK

One of the oldest and still existing tribes in the Philippines is the Mamanwas, who are quite alike to the Negritoes in physical profile. Although forced to settle in the hinter islands because of the arrival of development, they still practiced, however, their customs and traditions. Among these is the faith about “KAHIMUNAN”, a tribal festivity, where music and graceful dancing are typical features. They chant and play accompanied with their instruments, such as: the gimbar (drum), the gong and the bamboo called the “kalatong” and “katik”. A “baylan” or priest preside the celebration as a tribute to their God, “MAGBABAYA” and ancestors for good health and abundant harvest intercessions.

During the “kahimunan” or ancestral festivity, wild pigs, chicken and different fruits are offered to the ancestors. A thanksgiving dance called “BONOK-BONOK” is presented by the different village chieftains and babaeyons. Happiness and friendship are expressed through dancing, shouting and singing. They wave scarves of “BANAY” as signs of good will, wealth and blessings for the whole tribal village.

Thus, Bonok-Bonok is a ritual dance which originated from these early settlers. The rhythm usually starts with a slow beat and slowly gets faster, causing the dancers to work at pace with the music. Adding to the attraction of the dance is the colorful costumes, which includes beaded headdresses or tubaw, bracelets and anklets of the women. The ceremonial dress of the men and women are likewise elaborate in design, and of various colors.
The dance ritual has been brought down through the generations and still being practiced today. In respect to the Patron Saint San Nicolas de Tolentino, the people have already adopted the “Bonok – bonok Maradjaw Karadjaw” Festival which is a reflection of Surigao’s rich cultural heritage.

Held in honour of the city’s patron, San Nicolas de Tolentino, this famous Mardi Gras celebration features street parties and traditional ethnic dance rituals. The day-long festivities take place in the area around the Provincial Sports Complex which is a great place to see the many different dancers perform. This deeply traditional event is a way of asking the gods for excellent health and abundant harvests

The symptoms are similar to the regular flue but could be deadly. This guide will provide you with information on how to protect you and your family from catching the virus.

Step 1


Wash hands for at least 30 seconds

Wash Hands Frequently – Washing your hands frequently with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizers is encourage to prevent getting the Swine flu. Carrying extra sanitizer in a pocket, purse, or in the car will allow for you to clean your hands and children’s hands after getting in the car.

Step 2

Take caution

Be Alert – If you notice you might have some symptoms of Swine flu such as coughing, pains in your body, sore throat, or a sick feeling. Visit the doctor immediately. The Swine flu cases are still being reported so there it is unknown how many people are infected. Also avoid coming in contact with someone whom is sick. Encourage others to cover their mouth if they are coughing and leave the area.

Step 3

Employees should always wash hands

Stay near Home – Going to eat at fast food restaurants and other eating establishments are not a guarantee that the employees are washing their hands. Until more cases of Swine flu are reported it is best to stay near your house more. Shopping carts are also a high breeding ground for germs. Wipe down the shopping cart handle before you push it and any place else your child might touch.

Step 4

Always use paper seat covers

Use Seat Covers – If you must use a public restroom use seat covers or toilet paper to line the seats. Flush the handle with toilet paper rather than using your bare hands exposing you to the Swine flu virus. Always wash your hands after using the bathroom. When exiting. Use a paper towel to open the door and immediately throw it away.

Step 5

Exercise at least 30 minutes a day

Good Health – Remember to eat properly, exercise, and get enough sleep. People whom are not healthy are more prone to get sick than those whom actively take care of themselves.

Step 6

Research – Look for more information on the Swine flu to get additional education.

Surigao is home to the Mamanwa ethnic tribe. Their dances are showcased in a local festival called "Bonok-Bonok", held at the feast of San Nicolas de Tolentino which is held annually on September 10. The Bonok-Bonok depicts the native folks' merry-making to show gratitude to God for bountiful harvest and good health.

A day-long festival highlighting the annual city fiesta celebration. The main feature is the Bonok-bonok, an ethnic Mamanua (IPES) dance performed by the natives during thanks giving, worship and wedding ceremonies.

The introduction to the celebration of the Maradjao-Karajao Festival is the Bulawanon Barangay "Bulawanon" means beautification. Before the Bonok-bonok festivity held, preliminary contest between the 22 barangays of Surigao City and 9 coastal barangays is ongoing to highlight the month-long festivity that livens up to the household of each respective family of Surigao City.

Other activities are street dancing participated by different private government groups using creative costumes, huge floats and entertaining chanting "Viva Señor San Nicolas! Viva Maradjao Karajao!".

Tourism potential aside, Surigao is more importantly home to one of the country's most colorful tribes, the Mamanwas. Known for their creative patterns, brass jewelry and indigenous crafts, the Mamanwas fill the streets dancing during the Bonok Bonok Maradjao Karadjao festival on September 9. Celebrated on the occasion of the feast of San Nicolas de Tolentino, the Bonok Bonok shows the natives' gratitude to their animistic gods for a bountiful harvest and good health.

A collection of antique archaeological diggings like burial coffins jars and antique Chinese kitchen wares discovered in Panhutungan, Placer is on public display at the Surigaonon Heritage Mini-Museum situated at the Boulevard in Surigao City.



HISTORY OF BONOK-BONOK

One of the oldest and still existing tribes in the Philippines is the Mamanwas, who are quite alike to the Negritoes in physical profile. Although forced to settle in the hinter islands because of the arrival of development, they still practiced, however, their customs and traditions. Among these is the faith about “KAHIMUNAN”, a tribal festivity, where music and graceful dancing are typical features. They chant and play accompanied with their instruments, such as: the gimbar (drum), the gong and the bamboo called the “kalatong” and “katik”. A “baylan” or priest preside the celebration as a tribute to their God, “MAGBABAYA” and ancestors for good health and abundant harvest intercessions.

During the “kahimunan” or ancestral festivity, wild pigs, chicken and different fruits are offered to the ancestors. A thanksgiving dance called “BONOK-BONOK” is presented by the different village chieftains and babaeyons. Happiness and friendship are expressed through dancing, shouting and singing. They wave scarves of “BANAY” as signs of good will, wealth and blessings for the whole tribal village.

Thus, Bonok-Bonok is a ritual dance which originated from these early settlers. The rhythm usually starts with a slow beat and slowly gets faster, causing the dancers to work at pace with the music. Adding to the attraction of the dance is the colorful costumes, which includes beaded headdresses or tubaw, bracelets and anklets of the women. The ceremonial dress of the men and women are likewise elaborate in design, and of various colors.
The dance ritual has been brought down through the generations and still being practiced today. In respect to the Patron Saint San Nicolas de Tolentino, the people have already adopted the “Bonok – bonok Maradjaw Karadjaw” Festival which is a reflection of Surigao’s rich cultural heritage.

Held in honour of the city’s patron, San Nicolas de Tolentino, this famous Mardi Gras celebration features street parties and traditional ethnic dance rituals. The day-long festivities take place in the area around the Provincial Sports Complex which is a great place to see the many different dancers perform. This deeply traditional event is a way of asking the gods for excellent health and abundant harvests
