ASIMOV May 31st, 2005, 08:51 PM Izmir Atatürk Stadium was built to host the 1964 Mediterranean Games and originally had a capacity of 80,000; being for many years the largest stadium in Turkey.
http://dunyaturk.com/tr06/ATAKAP1.JPG
It will now host the University Games and get a new roof:
http://www.parkir.com.tr/stadsuyabatmaz.jpg
I think Izmir has a bigger chance than Istanbul of getting the Olympics. :D
IchO May 31st, 2005, 10:10 PM Nice.

I assume this stadium is a part of Turkey's EURO 2012 bid for Izmir?
Metropolist June 1st, 2005, 12:07 AM nice project anyway, i guess it will be renoved for euro 2012 then..
carlspannoosh June 1st, 2005, 12:47 AM How many major athletic/ track and field events are there held in this stadium every year?
www.sercan.de June 1st, 2005, 12:51 AM carlspannard
since 2 years it is under renovation
and before it only the clubs of Izmir played here
Christos7
yes, but the stands must be cloeser to the track, so the capacity can be around 65.000
http://img60.echo.cx/img60/5329/izmiratatrk6gs.jpg
carlspannoosh June 1st, 2005, 01:06 AM Thanks sercan
It seems that in Europe there are far too many stadiums designed for track and field. Those facilities are so rarely used and so it seems such a waste of space and money to have them. Most of these stadiums couldnt survive without football and so they should be designed for football.

Nils August 15th, 2005, 10:20 PM One Question: what kind of event are the "University Olympics"? And who participates? University students? I've never heard of this event and perhaps many guys here in europe agree.
vivayo August 15th, 2005, 11:21 PM Why it wasnt used Itarkut, ( i dont know the name of the new stadium in Istambul), a much bigger and modern facility
Urban Girl August 16th, 2005, 05:35 PM One Question: what kind of event are the "University Olympics"? And who participates? University students? I've never heard of this event and perhaps many guys here in europe agree.
its name is "Universiade", actually its second biggest sport event after summer olympics, only university students participate but universiade is quite an unknown organization.
Urban Girl August 16th, 2005, 05:43 PM Why it wasnt used Itarkut, ( i dont know the name of the new stadium in Istambul), a much bigger and modern facility
Ataturk olympic stadium is in Istanbul and Istanbul is not host city.
Izmir is the host city for universiade so they use Izmir olymic complex for this event:)
Nils August 16th, 2005, 05:56 PM Quote: its name is "Universiade", actually its second biggest sport event after summer olympics...
In which regard? Participating people? thats possible but in the regard of media coverages i'm sure it's very, very small event compared with the olympics and the soccer world cup.
linostar1982 August 16th, 2005, 06:06 PM Or even comparing with the World Athletic championship...By the way I liked the lighing effects but the whole ceremony was not something special

of course its biggest if you count the participating athletes but for sure not bigger than olympics or football world cup, even Olympics cant comparable with world cup:D
Urban Girl August 16th, 2005, 06:09 PM Or even comparing with the World Athletic championship...By the way I liked the lighing effects but the whole ceremony was not something special
i think opening ceremony was too good for Universiade:D
linostar1982 August 16th, 2005, 06:12 PM I dont reaaly know,I hadnt see before any other universiade ceremony...but after the Athens 2004 ceremony, the point for the ceremonies is grown toooooooooo high.

Christos7 August 16th, 2005, 09:49 PM Whats the capacity of the stadium?
And I thought it was suppose to have a roof in renderings I saw.
The ceremony looks great. :okay:
System_Halted August 16th, 2005, 11:49 PM It is Atatürk Stadium of Izmir. (Don't mix it with the Ataturk Olympic Stadium of Istanbul ;))
It was built in 1964 for the Mediterranean Games in Izmir.
Capacity is about 60,000 (official site says 57,000). But they didn't use the full capacity, during the ceremony.
They are going to build the roof. Probably if Turkey gets Euro-2012.

Are you sure it is the second biggest even in participation, i am sure that the Commonwealth Games are as big or larger.
actually im not sure but these numbers from official site of universiade 2005;
**The anticipated number of participants for the Games is around 9,000 athletes from 170 countries.
İzmir is getting prepared to host nearly 40,000 guests, among which are technical delegations, athletes, friends and spectators.
More than 700 technical staff and nearly 1500 referees and judges will be on duty in the organization.
Approximately 1000 VIP guests will attend the Games.
Approximately 200 press members will observe the competitions.
700,000 spectators are expected to attend the events.
9,500 volunteers will be on duty during the Universiade
More than 18,000 staff members are planned to be recruited to work in commissions like the transportation, medical, international, marketing, public relations and information technologies.
300,000 tons of food is estimated to be consumed during the Games
40,000 meal courses will be served each day.
Among the 60 venues, 31 of them are being used for competitions and 29 for trainings during the Games.**

Gherkin June 15th, 2007, 05:09 PM Are the pale green/grey sides of the roof retractable? They look layered as if this was the case. can we have some more info? Capacity? Purpose?
www.sercan.de June 15th, 2007, 05:32 PM actually tehre are 3 designs
in some months the city will decide which one the will choose

and a newer one (this or the 3rd one are from HOK Sports)

no pic of the 3rd one
IMO they will choose the 2nd one, because its easier to expand it
proposed capacity is 33.000-34.000
40.000 and later 50.000 should be not a problem for Bursa SK
bumdingo June 15th, 2007, 06:00 PM It's about time Turkey with its large population and fanatical football supporters got some decent stadiums. Most of the provincial ones are all in the same vein and very dated.

Trabzon will get a new stadium for the 2011 Summer festival Olympics (?).
Actually the club Trabzonspor already had an own project at the current old stadium site, but they had no money to built it.
Capacity was 28.000 (expandable to 33.000)
http://www.trabzonspor.org.tr/images/haberpic/161006basin2.jpg
So, now the government will built a new sports and culture complex.
The whole project will be built on artificial island in the black sea (as you can see).
In the Trabzonspor magazine it was written as 60.000, but today the sportsminister said that they want to bid for the EURO 2016 and Trabzon should be a semi-final city. Therefore they want to built a 50.000 stadium which can be reduced later to 30.000.

http://aycu37.webshots.com/image/41396/2005254120777649936_rs.jpg
IMO its just a pre-design More just to show the location of the venues.
Konya plans also a new stadium.
Capacity will be 33.000. The complex will include also a new arena (7.500), hotel and indoor swimming halls . The parking area will be 100.000m²!!
Quite a lot projects in Turkey
Stadiums
1. New Galatasaray - 52.500 - u/c - 2009/2010
2. New Kayseri -33.000 - u/c - 2008
3. New Antalya - 30.000 - approved, conctruction will start 2008 - 2010
4. New Bursa - 35.000 - proposed/plans stopped -
5. New Rize - 15.000 - u/c - 2008
6. New Konya - 33.000 - proposed - 2009
7. New Trabzon - 30.000/50.000 - approved - 2010
And new Arenas
1. New Istanbul - 16.000 - proposed, but if they do not get the permission,.. - 2010
2. New Fenerbahce - +12.000 - approved - 2009
3. New Antalya - 10.000 - approved -2009
4. New Ankara - 10.000 - proposed - 2009
5. New Kayseri - 7.200 - u/c - 2008
6. New Bursa - 7.500 - proposed - 2009
7. New Konya - 7.500 - proposed - 2009
8. Sinan Erdem Dome will be finished for the 2012 (or 2013?) indoor Atheltics. But it looks like it won't have the portable telescope 1st tier (which was planned for Basketball events 22.500). Therefore the capacity will be only 17.500.
www.sercan.de January 9th, 2008, 10:13 PM Actually therefore they already started :D
Turkey wants to host EURO and many stadiums are u/c or planned.
We have no pics about Trabzon and Konya, but Bursa's one looked quite good. Similiar to a EURO2008 stadium.
Rize stadiums is small and ugly :D
But i do not know if Turkey plans to use the Atatürk stadium. I hope not :ohno:
Genç January 9th, 2008, 10:26 PM But without it, the heighest capacity stadium will be 52kish...that's not really enough to host a Euro final IMO...
Btw nice list Sercan, it's good to see all the proposals/projects in one place. :okay:
www.sercan.de January 9th, 2008, 10:31 PM i still hope that they will built a new Olympic park closer to the coty ( Atatrük stadium has to be demolished :D ).
Would be also better for the Olympics.
But if they are stingy they will just a 2nd tier to the endzone stands. Capacity would be 94.000.
skaP187 January 10th, 2008, 02:41 PM Quite a lot projects in Turkey

Nothing in Izmir? third city of the country, but I never hear something from that city, no famous footballclub either.
What´s wrong there?!
www.sercan.de January 10th, 2008, 03:13 PM Actually Izmir has got 3 traditional clubs.
Karsiyaka (suburb) is playing in the 2nd league. They had plans for a new 10.000 football stadium. But money...
Altay (2x cup champ) plays also in the 2nd league. Göztepe (2x cup) champion plays now somewhere in the 5th league (4 years ago they played in the 1st league)
2003 - 1st league
2004 - 2nd league
2005 - 3rd league
2007 - 4th league
since 2006/2007 - 5th league
As you can see the whole city gave up to support. No rich investor is interested in helping or something else.
Its really a shame, because it is/was a football crazy city in the past.
May 16th 1981 over 80.000 (only 67.696 of them had a ticket) attend the 2nd league match between Karsiyaka and Göztepe.
Izmir already has got a ~10.000 sports hall.
Ankara, capital of Turkey, isn't better.
4 1st league clubs, but all nowadys shit.
Proposed 32.000 seater stadium (you can see it at the left side)

BTW, capacity of the proposed Fenerbahçe arena is increased because of the FIBA 2010 WC. (12.000->15.000)
So, it looks like it will be te final venue and the wet dreams of the TBF to built a new 16.000 Arena at Macka Park are over
www.sercan.de March 3rd, 2008, 11:35 AM According to work and social security minister Faruk Çelik the area for the new stadium in Bursa will be decided within the next month.
According to his brother and Bursaspor chairman, Osman Çelik, the capacity of the new stadium will be 50,000.

I thought it as canceled?!
According to some rumours Antalya project has been changed
g$X.n1 March 4th, 2008, 02:30 PM The izmir YESIL YURT stadium is a little project and there are some other project they made a competition and this is one of them
Izmir will get additional a "Main" project .. much bigger and with UEFA STANDARTS for International games the same thing is planned for Ankara
@Antalya - this is the lates project.. called 100. yil projesi and I am sure that it will be build soon in this project there is also a INDOOR arena for the FIBA World Cup 2010 in turkey.
I think you mean this cancelled project
http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/958/antalya406009jw.jpg
this was one of my favorite projects for antalya but unfortunataly it has been canceled
Kobo March 4th, 2008, 03:26 PM Welcome g$x.n1 to skyscrapercity. What a great first post to start off with, I personally hope Turkey gets a European Championship either in 2016 or 2020. Whats the Ankara Stadium going to be like haven't heard about that one. Whats the predicted capacity? Any special features? The new Besiktas Stadium is that a revamp of the current stadium, or are they moving to a different location?
www.sercan.de March 4th, 2008, 03:30 PM According to some rumours this one http://www.antalyasporum.com/images/haber/2007-2008/yeni_stad_salon/stadyum-salon.jpg will be changed
@ Kobo
Actually there isn't a real Ankara project. It will be realized if Turkey get the Euro.
Some more proposed stadiums
Mersin (30,000. Will hav a Athletic track)
Diyarbakirspor (30,000)
g$X.n1 March 4th, 2008, 03:58 PM @ Kobo
thx!
+ ankara it's the capital city of turkey and there are 3 teams from ankara who play in the first division .. so it's a MUST! also for a possible european championship.. I think it will be 50'000+
As far as I know the first steps has been made.. it's only a quastion of time until the project will be published..
Izmir is the same ..
and yes the besiktas stadium will be at the same place..
@sercan this one is the latest project of antalya never heard from changes?... because time is running out (FIBA world cup 2010 in turkey)
it's a big project with stadium - indoor arena - and also swimming pool.. :D
for more information seach: "100. Yil projesi Antalya"

Demetrius March 4th, 2008, 04:08 PM I really like the new Besiktas stadium the most! It is really elegant & compact at the same time! What are the latest about its approval, considering the location issues? Do Besiktas own the land? Do they have financing of the project assured or they generally speak about sponsors?
g$X.n1 March 4th, 2008, 04:52 PM I really like the new Besiktas stadium the most! It is really elegant & compact at the same time! they have still trubels with some officials there to get the ground and the necessary permissions to build it..
their aim is to start at May 2008 ... and finish it after 18 months
lpioe March 4th, 2008, 05:33 PM Istanbul will have one of the best stadium infrastructures in Europe in a few years. Are there any other cities except London with 4 40k+ stadiums?
My fav project is Antalyaspor though.
www.sercan.de March 4th, 2008, 06:00 PM Are you sure about Antalya? :)

g$X.n1 March 4th, 2008, 06:23 PM I don't like this baby stadiums .. IMO its waste of money and place for little regional clubs! :bash:
In turkey there are a lot of big cities without one big stadium and a club because there are hundreds of clubs who play their own thing with their max.10'000 fans.. in a little part of the city
for example In my dream :
Izmir United FC
Ankara United FC
= bigger stadium ! more money ! better players ! better leauge
www.sercan.de March 4th, 2008, 06:30 PM Actually i like tis small one. Its small, but compact and for small IStanbulian clubs
Izmir and Ankara clubs will never merge
Its like a BJK + FB + GS = FC Istanbul
lpioe March 4th, 2008, 07:43 PM Are you sure about Antalya? :)
Interior sucks
http://www.antalyasporum.com/images/haber/2007-2008/yeni_stad_salon/stadyum.jpg
Ok, interior is a bit of a letdown. It looks quite small, I would have guessed about 20k. But I really like the outside with the circular/oval shape.
Is it already decided which stadiums of Istanbul would be in the Euro bid?
I guess Gala and Atatürk?
Would be a shame to see Besiktas and Fener stadium excluded because of this rule :(
www.sercan.de March 4th, 2008, 08:00 PM No, because we have a new Federation. We have to wair the small expansion of the FB stadium.
Atatürk is big, but awful
BJK is IMO 100% out. Too small.
GS will have the best infrastructure of all Istanbulian stadiums
www.sercan.de March 4th, 2008, 09:35 PM Just read it.
Cit gave Besiktas the bus area which located at the north of the stadium and memorial comitee said ok to the new stadium.
So nothing can stop it, because finance is not the problem. (Company will built it with its own moeny, therefore they will get the income of all non football organisations

great news
Demetrius March 5th, 2008, 10:46 AM Cool! I really like Besiktas stadium design! I still wonder though about the infrastructures! Will it be convienent for fans to commute from and to the stadium? What is planned about this issue?
www.sercan.de March 5th, 2008, 11:27 AM It will have only 2,500 car parkings (i think 10% of the capacity woul be better. Therefore they changed the car aprking at the new GS stadium)
I am not sure about the roads aroudn the stadium. i think after matches there will be a huge traffic.
But BJK has got a big advantage. Many fans will sue the ferry :D
Demetrius March 5th, 2008, 11:55 AM Using the ferry! Wow, I hope this is practical! Then again I 've been in the City in 2001 and I now it is notorious for its traffic jams :D
www.sercan.de March 5th, 2008, 12:17 PM Actually many fans are using the ferry nowadays
It became a special thing for FB derbies (whole ferry with BJK fans, flames etc. Crossing the Bosphorus towards asia :D )
BTW g$X.n1
Rize will have a capacity of 15.558
GS is still 52,500 (still unclear if it the vip suites are included. If not it can reach 54,000)
Kobo March 5th, 2008, 12:21 PM Actually i like tis small one. Its small, but compact and for small IStanbulian clubs
Izmir and Ankara clubs will never merge
Its like a BJK + FB + GS = FC Istanbul
I understand why Turkish clubs don't won't to merge. But from my the very small amount of research I have just done on Turkey's Super League only 4 Clubs have ever one the league in its 49 year history! They are Fenerbache SK (17 times), Galatasaray SK (16 times), Besiktas JK (10 times) and Trabzonspor (6 times). These then make "the big 4". The interesting thing about Trabzonspor is that they were 2 seperate clubs in Trabzon but were forced to merge by the Turkish Football Federation in order to create 1 club and thus make the Turkish League a more open contest. Will such a scheme happen again? By clubs merging wouldn't it make a more open league.
At the moment Izmir has a big stadium of 58,000. g$X.n1 you said Izmir would get another "main project" would this replace the Izmir Ataturk Stadium or have it redeveloped to Uefa standards?
www.sercan.de March 5th, 2008, 12:49 PM If you look at the foundation dates of the "anatolian" clubs you will see that most of them were founded between 1963-1970
The reason is that a minsiter had the idea "all small clubs in a anatolia city should merge into a province club"
Therefore the anatolian clubs are "xy spor" (provincespor. Mainly province is called after the capital of the province)
Only the clubs frm the big 3 cities have "normal" names and "normal" foundation dates
Besiktas JK - 1903
Galatasaray SK - 1905
Fenerbahçe Sk - 1907
Ankara
MKE Ankaragücü SK - 1910
Gençlerbirligi SK - 1923
Izmir
Karşıyaka SK - 1912
Altay SK - 1914
Göztepe GSK - 1925
I do not think that the Izmir club will merge. There is a huge rivalry.
Actually Karsiyaka vs. Göztepe is more a war than a football match.
They have also a record.
May 16th 1981 over 80,000 attended the 2ND LEAGUE match between Karsiyaka and Göztepe.
I hope that Kayserispor and Kayseri Erciyes will merge.
For EUR 2008 a renovation of the Izmir Atatürk stadium was plannd
For the EURO 2012 a football stadium was planned (40,000 as i remember)
www.sercan.de March 5th, 2008, 12:58 PM The biggest problem in turkish football is that we have only 4 champion teams.
Ok, nowadys its in Europe the same (England, Spain etc)
But its hard to support your loca team if its younger than you and has got no achievements (maybe typical Mediterranean mentality)
But there are some cup winners clubs like Sakarya Bursa, Eskisehir etc
Those clubs have a huge fan support.
Bursa's stadium has got a capacity of 19,700, but they sell 18,000 season tickets.
Eskisehir had an average of 16,000 in the 3rd league. Looks like they will be in the Süperlig in the next season
I am sure that Bursa, Sakarya or Eskisehir will have an average attendanc of 25-30,000 in the Süperlig in a new modern stadium. Because anoher problem are the old stadiums.
Axelferis March 5th, 2008, 01:10 PM Fenerbahce are hot now  (yesterday CL sevilla)
www.sercan.de March 5th, 2008, 01:20 PM Yes :D
World gone crazy
Galatasaray laughed at FB, because they have been never successful.
Therefore FB laughed at GS, because they could not built a stadium
I hope with the new stadium GS will be back :)
Axelferis March 5th, 2008, 02:03 PM sercan--> can you imagine Lille -Gs in few years in CL?? :)
In our both New stadiums
www.sercan.de March 5th, 2008, 02:33 PM i think both would be in plot 4.
So a group macth woudl be difficult. maye next Round :D
I think both stadiums will be ready for the 09/10 season. A new area begins :nocrook:
Kobo March 5th, 2008, 02:56 PM Cheers Sercan for explaining what the clubs names mean. I didn't realise how many football clubs there are in Istanbul they have over double the amount of professional clubs than London has!!! :eek2:

..and...are they planning a "Little Dubai" in Trabzon?? ;)
www.sercan.de March 5th, 2008, 03:36 PM railcity
Yes, Trabzon ones will be made on an artificial island. The renders just show a pre design. new stadium will host "2011 Youth Olympics" Therefore it will have an athletic track. Accordinf to sports ministe its planned to have a capacity of 50,000. After the Olympics it can be reduced to 30,000.
Lets wait waht will happen in Trabzon. Fans prefer a system like at the City Manchester stadium.
Fatih Karagümrük SK (1926) will play there, because the old stadium was there.
Kobo
Actually there are only 5 Süperlig clubs.
The 3 big ones, Istanbul Büyüksehir Belediye (Istanbul major city. Municipality club :ohno:) and Kasimpasaspor.

Sanliurfapor plays in the 3rd league (called TFF 2. Lig)
The first ever national professional Turkish league started in 1959. (There were professional leagues only in three cities - Ankara, İstanbul, İzmir - at the time.)
Top 8 clubs from İstanbul and top 4 clubs both from Ankara and İzmir were admitted to the league.
The first half of the season were spent by the qualifications and Milli Lig could start during the second half, literally in 1959 calendar year. That's why, the first year is referred as 1959 Milli Lig rather than 1958-59 Milli Lig.
1959 Milli Lig was played in two stages - the Groups and the Final.
Axelferis March 5th, 2008, 03:55 PM t is normal to have so much club in istanbul. It's very big city in a centralized country no?
Even iff ankara is the capital, Istanbul was for a long time the capital of Turkey no?
You have the same for rio,sao paulo or mexico or even buenos aires
suji_wish March 5th, 2008, 04:11 PM Hi All,
Wonder if anybody can help me with the list of new construction projects in Turkey. I need project value and brief description about the project - any new project infrastructure/building mixed use/stadium etc.............
thanks people
www.sercan.de March 5th, 2008, 04:23 PM The first Football club was founded in Istanbul in 1875 (Hermes Athletic and Cultural Association from Constantiople).
Turks weren't allowed to establish a sports club (a group of young man -> revolution -> possible danger for the Sultan).
Therefor there have been many "foreign" clubs

Its a bit like London. Isanbul have got 3 big ones and nowadays many small ones.
Since 1959 there haven been 64 clubs in the first div. and 13 clubs camre from Istanbul

Axelferis March 6th, 2008, 11:40 PM sercan-->someone said on another threa that turkish euro2016 bid has a bad point and disadvantage: 4/10 stadiums are located in istanbul... Do you think uefa will allow this? Interesting reflexion..
www.sercan.de March 6th, 2008, 11:43 PM No :D
And Turkey won't bid with 4 Istanbulian stadia
1. Istanbul
2. Istanbul
3. Ankara
4. Izmir
5. Antalya
6. Kayseri
7. Konya
8. Bursa
9. Trabzon
10. ? Adana maybe
Axelferis March 6th, 2008, 11:45 PM ok :) the battle will be : who host the second stadium inistanbul after the olympic sali.. I think GS has the better chances :D
www.sercan.de March 6th, 2008, 11:53 PM Lets wait.
BJK is IMO out. Too small, bu current TFF president is BJK member and he said that BHK stadiums should became the national stadium :D
GS stadium has got the best infrastructre (own metro station. 4*4 highway, which is connected with a 3*3 avenue, next to it and over 5,000 car parking under the stadium.
FB stadium could have a biger capacity after the smal expansion. Stadium is in the city.
Olympic...its quite "new",has got biggest capacity and the main stand is modern. But i am sure that they will add the 2nd tier at the endzone stands and that it will be mondernized. Maybe they will built a new one :D
They said that it can reach a capacity of 100,000 by ading the 2nd tier at the endzones. But i dot not believe it. 90,000 is more realistic to me.
I think nowadays the anatolian stadia are at the first place that have to be done.
Later we will hear more information about Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir
Alle March 7th, 2008, 12:23 AM After having seen that dissapointing stadium in sanliurfa (doesnt look to well suited for football), this one really cheered me up, world class design!
http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/8600/konya04bxr5.jpg
www.sercan.de March 7th, 2008, 12:35 AM As i said Sanliurfa is a very old one (1994). Conctruction just stopped for years.
But you are right, Konya is maybe the best looking of all new proposed stadiums in Turkey
Kocaelispor (2nd div) plans also a new stadium
Capacity: 33,000
This was published in a forum
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/2408/kocaelife8.jpg
But could be also a non turkish project. :D
Maybe a user already saw this pic.
lpioe March 7th, 2008, 09:26 AM The Konya stadium looks very nice. But why do they build an olympic village in this city?
www.sercan.de March 7th, 2008, 10:27 AM its just called "olympic" village
you can also say sports complex :)
turks love to use the word "olympic" :)
"Olympic indoor swim hall" etc :)
Turok March 7th, 2008, 11:03 AM The Konya Stadium has the best outdoor design and facade, because it is organic.Remembers me a little bit NOU MESTELLA.I hope some cities can beat this design.Maybe Trabzon :D ?????
www.sercan.de March 7th, 2008, 11:07 AM I don't think TS will have a organic one, because it is planned to have 20,000 temporary seat.
And its a quite expensive project. 800 mil. USD!!
lpioe March 7th, 2008, 11:10 AM Turkey will have a really strong bid and will be the only one to rival France (or Spain).
If they don't get the Euro in 2016 I'm sure they will have it in 2020. Fortunately it's not like in a WC bid where you have to wait for 12 or 16 years if you lose once.
www.sercan.de March 7th, 2008, 11:15 AM Yeah. Actually to have a chance against France, they already start to built most of the stadiums.
I am just afraid if we can expand most of the new ones.
What will happen when uefa decides to increase the euro stadia capacity to +40,000?
Kobo March 7th, 2008, 11:38 AM I don't think Uefa would make that decision, the thing with the Uefa European Cup Tournament is it allows emerging / smaller footballing countires to grow by hosting this competition. If they said from now on the minimum capacity is 40,000 for any stadium that want to host. That would rule out so many countries in Europe, and so the tournament would always end up in Spain, Italy, Germany, England and France.
Kuvvaci March 7th, 2008, 11:45 AM Are you sure about Antalya? :)

Kuvvaci March 7th, 2008, 12:04 PM it is wonderful for us that two of the stadiums (Kayseri, Galatasaray's) are under construction and 3 more stadiums (Antalya, Konya, BJK's) construction will start this year. another one (Fenerbahçe's) will be expanded this summer and host UEFA Cup Final in 2009.
New President of Turkish Football Federation said, they will build 7 new stadiums except current u/c stadiums.
Bursa wants a new one (posssibily we will have a prohect for them soon)
www.sercan.de March 7th, 2008, 12:07 PM I hope Kobo
Kuvvaci, please read the hole thread. Lazy turk :D

I also have a non stadium / architecture question for you Turks. I sent a package from the UK to Istanbul a few weeks ago by regular airmail and it was meant to arrive this time last week (29th Feb) but hasn't, is the Turkish postal system known to be notoriously bad at losing post, should I be worried?

I had never problems with that .. sometimes it has some delays .. 1 or 2 weeks
so I would wait.. it would be very unlucky if something happens...

don't worry for your post. It goes slowly, but surely.
I guess they will include Ankara but I am not sure for Izmir yet. Coz, there is a big stadium there and just need renovation and there is no any single team from Izmir at our Super League.

Kuvvaci March 8th, 2008, 12:09 PM It will have only 2,500 car parkings (i think 10% of the capacity woul be better. Therefore they changed the car aprking at the new GS stadium)
I am not sure about the roads aroudn the stadium. i think after matches there will be a huge traffic.
But BJK has got a big advantage. Many fans will sue the ferry :D
not ferry, they walk... their tradition, they meet at Kabataş, Taksim, or Beşiktaş inside village, sqaure infront of the Han Bup and they walk.
I pray somebody may stop this stadium construction catasthroph. :ohno:

g$X.n1 March 9th, 2008, 03:47 PM Magnificent thread! Many thanks for this composition..
it looks as though turkey will be able to select host cities out of an assorted collection in a couple of years' time. Is there any official statement, confirming the intention to host Euro 2016?
It is official confirmed (GSGM) that preparations has began to get EURO 2016 to turkey after that they will try to get the olimpic games in 2020 and for this event they need a good reference like Euro 2016! that's the strategy ..
We have now 2008 and still 8 years left until Euro 2016 and when you look how turkish futbol and stadiums will change the next 3-4 years you can Imagine how serious they are...!
---
On the 18th April 2007, Poland/Ukraine were selected to host the 2012 competition. They beat off competition from the highly favoured Italy and a joint bid from Croatia/Hungary.
In 2010, UEFA will decide which country will host Euro 2016. Sweden and Norway are currently planning a joint bid, and it has been reported that Wales and Scotland will also bid together. Bids should be submitted in 2008. France is an other candidate.....
Both Bulgaria & Romania and the Czech Republic & Slovakia are considering joint bids for Euro 2020.
[edit] Possible expansion to 24 teams
----
www.sercan.de March 9th, 2008, 04:33 PM According to some Trabzonspor board members, the new stadium will have a capacity of 45,000-50,000. And it will be a FOOTBALL STADIUM (no track) and could have a retracebale roof.
Therefore a new stadium with track will be built in the neighbour city Sebat (2011 YOuth Olympics)
Kuvvaci March 10th, 2008, 12:10 PM I think until 2010, we will complate at least 4 suitable stadiums for EURO and 3 other constructions will be started. Whe UEFA delegation arrived here they will see 4 brand new stadiums beside two other 5 star stadiums (Olympic and Saraçoğlu wich will host UEFA Cup 2009 final), and 3 constructions. I think France and Turkey will be in a competition. IMO others bids have minimum chances.
Genç March 10th, 2008, 11:53 PM Exactly. But France already hosted a WC in 1998 so perhaps it would be too soon to give them something else. :D
Kuvvaci March 11th, 2008, 04:26 PM maybe... but such things are ogranization things. and 2016 is far away from 1998. don't forget Germany host 1974 WC and 1988 Euro and again 2006 WC. France has a big chance. We will have too. The one who wikk be more willing and more organized will win.

veronika March 13th, 2008, 11:56 PM Sercan, I am interested to know why there is a mini boom in sports facility development in Turkey last three years and ongoing. Obviously most stadium booms happen when a country is chosen for a major event or through political reasons but I cannot understand the principal reasons behind the Turkish boom-although I am happy its happening!
Other current booms are Russia off the back of Sochi 2014 and the political referendum to invest xxx billion dollars into sports infrastructure, Ukraine and Poland 2012-obviously, Sweden-also dont know reasoning?
Brazil is also happening now due to World cup and fact its stadiums are tired and dated regardless of any major event.
www.sercan.de March 14th, 2008, 12:09 AM There are many reason.
-Government supports it (less burocrazy)
-there is a comman concept in nearly every project
-Turkey wants to bid for the EURO 2016
The old stadium is in the city centre and belongs to the sports ministry (clubs are renter for 49 years).
All new stadiums will be built outside the city centre by a private company. Therefore they will get the old stadium plot and can built there a tower, mall etc.. The company just has to give portion of the income to the state.
For example at the GS stadium.
Eren Talu and Alke Conctruction will built the new GS stadium for 150 mil €. Therefore they will get the area of the old stadium. A 50 storey residential tower, mall etc is planned for that area. The expected income is 410 mil. € and they have to give 115 mil € to the state.
So, everbody wins :D
At Bursa they have the problem, that the old stadium area is protected. So its hard to built something new there.
customadam March 14th, 2008, 09:41 AM In addition, Turkey' s 2006 per capita income up to around $7,500 from $5,480. The government aims to increase per capita income to $10,000 in 2013. It was $2500 in the year of 2000. :omg:
Turkey is a candidate country for accession to the EU. Therefore, This increase is related to Turkey' s possible future accession to EU
g$X.n1 March 14th, 2008, 11:17 AM Sercan, I am interested to know why there is a mini boom in sports facility development in Turkey last three years and ongoing. Turkey is a fast growing country and turks love this game! and If turks see anywhere a big and beautiful stadium.. they think: WHY SHOULDN'T WE BUILD BIGGER AND BETTER stadiums if we have the possibilities like now! because we love football.. and we have the best fans in europe.. and we have also good players and our leauge is the 6. richest in europe..
turkey was 200 years ago a big empire and this wasn't a coincidence..
this is why they fear us :ohno:..
so it is in our head and we have also targets like EURO 2016 it is a intern and external competition .. AND THE WINNER OF THIS COMPETITION IS TURKISH FOOTBALL
www.sercan.de March 14th, 2008, 12:35 PM Many countries love football.
We loved it als 10 yars ago, but could not built it.
So its more money than passion.
Kuvvaci March 14th, 2008, 06:26 PM it has two reason veronika.
1.Construction indistury boomed in Turkey and construction companies wants the old plot of current old stadiums (100% are at city center and they have valuable plots). Construction companies build new stadiums to the clubs and they get old plot for rantible skyscraper or business center constructions.
2. After Fenerbahçe built its own stadium, other clups want to follow the same way, because they saw new modern stadium brings more money.
-----------------------------------------------------
beside it, Turkey wants to host EURO 2016
Turkey will host World Basketball Championship in 2010
Turkey wants Olympic Games in 2020
www.sercan.de March 14th, 2008, 06:50 PM I do not think FB is one of the main reasons.
Its just a great time to built.
g$X.n1 March 15th, 2008, 02:33 AM it has two reason veronika.

Fenerbahce?
for example: Galatasaray had this plans 10 years ago...

Yes, Fenerbahçe inspired many clubs and became lokomotive.

Yes, Fenerbahçe inspired many clubs and became lokomotive.
Gala inspired fener.. but it's not the place for gala/fener conversations;)
Kuvvaci March 15th, 2008, 04:03 PM what is Gala yahu? You must say Galatasaray or Cimbom. You can't find in Turkey even only one single guy who calls Galatasaray as "Gala". This "Gala" term is just a reflection of stupidity of some foreign magazines.
www.sercan.de March 15th, 2008, 04:05 PM Its the nickname of Galatasaray outisde of Turkey.
Whats wrong with it?
g$X.n1 March 15th, 2008, 05:45 PM "GALA" is in europe like "Fener" in turkey..
Genç March 15th, 2008, 06:15 PM Its the nickname of Galatasaray outisde of Turkey.
 People, especially in England, cannot refer to the team as 'cimbom' simply because they cannot pronounce the 'c'! I think giving the term 'Gala' instead is perfectly acceptable. Even I say it sometimes. :D
Kuvvaci March 15th, 2008, 06:34 PM "GALA" is in europe like "Fener" in turkey..
Fener means anything, also Fenerbahçe fans call it. But Galatasaray fans don't call Gala and it doesn't mean anything in Turkish (it means milk in Greek)
Kuvvaci March 15th, 2008, 06:37 PM  People, especially in England, cannot refer to the team as 'cimbom' simply because they cannot pronounce the 'c'! they can say Jim bom ,Jimmy bombom. It has the same voice

do you realy think hat anyone use GALATASARAY?.. short form for this is GALA
and I dont care what it means in greek..
"kaka" means also "shit" in turkey.. ;)
When I speak with my swiss friends I always use GALA and everybody knows that..
in turkey fener means fenerbahce in europe GALA means Galatasaray I would say you have learned something for your life ;) !
TEKKEN March 15th, 2008, 11:17 PM The stadium boom in Turkey is consequence because of new built stadiums in Europe. And this trend also catched Turkey. And second reason is that many stadiums in Turkey are very old and don´t fit to the 21th century.Time is coming to built new ones.
www.sercan.de March 16th, 2008, 11:37 AM Whats wrong to call it "Gala"?
Kuvvaci March 17th, 2008, 01:43 PM it doesn't come from clup, not accepted by Galatasaray and fans.
Kuvvaci March 17th, 2008, 01:46 PM BTW new Ankara stadium will be out of city center at the close corner of Eskişehir or Istanbul highway and construction company will get old Cebeci stadium and will build a mall and then they will build a new 40.000 ppl modern stadium.
Sport Minister announced it on last saturday.
it won't be an away stadium, but not an inner city stadium. It will be a "highway side " stadium :okay:
www.sercan.de March 17th, 2008, 01:56 PM Actually on international boards many GS fans use "gala"
It became more and more popular
So the new Ankara stadium will be like Allianz? (not design, location)
Kuvvaci March 17th, 2008, 08:41 PM design and location is not clear yet, but it is clear that it won't be in the city, but not away from the city. It will be at a location with easy transportation and it will replace Cebeci Stadium. 19 Mayıs will remain ( for what and why?)
www.sercan.de March 18th, 2008, 11:45 AM 19 Mayis has got a track. maybe because of that?!?
Kuvvaci March 18th, 2008, 03:51 PM no not for this ( actually its track is not suitable for anything in athletics also covered with asfalt)
19 mayıs plot is public area, it can't be converted to commerical area. If it will be replace anything, it can be just a public sutructure (like opera house, theare, or another sporting venue) according to the Turkish laws. Same goes for Istanbul İnönü stadium.
g$X.n1 March 18th, 2008, 08:52 PM 19 Mayis is a nice stadium for turkish standarts... It should stay
Carrerra March 19th, 2008, 01:28 AM sercan, as far as I know 19 mayis is shared by 4 clubs in Super lig. If so how do they arrange game schedules among themselves? In a commen sense, isn't it impossible?
www.sercan.de March 19th, 2008, 12:31 PM Only Gençlerbirligi, Ankaragücü and Gençlerbirligi OFTAS play a the 19 May stadium

TEKKEN March 24th, 2008, 02:55 PM when we will see first renders of the new Trabzon Stadium ??? I´ve heard a dutch company will built it.
www.sercan.de March 24th, 2008, 03:33 PM The company will built the new mall and office complex at the old stadium site.
As i know TS wants a football stadium with a capacity of 40,000-50,000. (more like 40,000)
So it won't have a track like you can see at the first pre-renderings.

Kuvvaci March 24th, 2008, 03:57 PM I don't think Trabzn will be able to build a new stadium.
g$X.n1 March 24th, 2008, 06:13 PM Diyarbakir spor as confirmed a big project with a new stadium 30'000 cap.
www.sercan.de March 25th, 2008, 11:52 AM Yes, project will be changed. The company (Multiturk Mall?) will design a new stadium for the sports complex island in the black sea.
So, the city of Trabzon or Trabzonspor won't built it.
State (2011 games) and the company who will get the old stadium area.
According to two Trabzonspor board members it won't have a track.
Capacity will be 40,000-50,000 (there is also a C plan with 33,000 if the cost are to high).

I wish 50K capacity with no running track would be the final decision ^^
www.sercan.de March 25th, 2008, 03:37 PM i hope too :D, because you need a +50k stadium to host a UFEA Cup Final.
BTW, there is also the possibilty for a retraceable roof
okoyel March 25th, 2008, 05:55 PM Hi I have a question, How is the new GS stadium project funded? Also there are lots of new stadium proposals in Turkey, how will they all be funded? Is the government going to pay or will it be the advertisement? Im a bit curious because of the 10-15 stadium proposals going around in Turkey.
www.sercan.de March 25th, 2008, 06:50 PM There are many reason.
Eren Talu and Alke Conctruction will built the new GS stadium for 150 mil . Therefore they will get the area of the old stadium. A 50 storey residential tower, mall etc is planned for that area. The expected income is 410 mil. and they have to give 115 mil to the state.
So, everbody wins :D
At Bursa they have the problem, that the old stadium area is protected. So its hard to built something new there.
I hope this old post helps you
okoyel March 25th, 2008, 07:02 PM haha thanks.
Carrerra March 25th, 2008, 07:40 PM I hope Turkey will host Worldcup as well as Euro2016 in the future. It really deserves it.
I think many countries should follow the example of Turkey's effort to improve football infrastructures, especially Italy.
Italy is a rich country. Italy is among leading groups in football. Italy hosted Worldcup less than 20 years ago. Football is said to be the most poupular sport in Italy But most of Italian stadiums are a disappointment itself. They have no comparsion at least in Europe. That makes no sense.
www.sercan.de March 25th, 2008, 08:03 PM EURO yes, but WC maybe in 30-40 years :D
BTW, the infrastructure of Turkey gets better. IMO EURO 2020 would be better. More highways and Highspeed lines :D
I think like in Turkey most italian stadiums belong to the state/city.
So its hard to built a new one.
Carrerra March 25th, 2008, 08:12 PM EURO yes, but WC maybe in 30-40 years :D

in 30-40 years? No, 10-15 years. What I want is what you will see. I guarantee ^^
www.sercan.de March 25th, 2008, 08:15 PM WC 2018 will go to Spain or England
2022 lets seay australia
2024 lets say china
2028 lets say usa
2032 Turkey?. IMO not, because Turkey will get the 2016 or 2020 euro

Don't you know that continental rotation rule was abandoned last year? IMO Turkey is the most favorite candidate in hosting 2018 WC if the stadium development goes on as scheduled because Spain and England had already hosted WC.

I'm not sure when but I'm sure THAT turkey will get a big event like a WC in the next 15 years
2016 EURO
2018 WC
or 2022 WC
one of them will be in turkey
www.sercan.de March 25th, 2008, 08:52 PM Turkey can't host a WC 2018, because current stadiums projects are too small

Hey dude, don't worry. You have 10 years to prepare for WC 2018 and Turkey's recent effort to improve their football infrastrutures would be appealled to voters in FIFA.
BTW I wish Fenerbache's winning Champions League this season(sorry if you're a GS fan haha) even though its head coach was in charge of Japansese national team before. Being an Korean I also hate Japan because it had colozined our country for 36 years in the 20th century

Genç March 25th, 2008, 11:23 PM Actually, perhaps making a bid for Eu2020 would be wiser. Like Sercan said, the infrastructure links (High-Speed rail, new motorways etc) would be upgraded to a higher standard stadia would be even more modern. A lot can be improved in four years!
g$X.n1 March 26th, 2008, 11:24 AM we could host a WC with greece maybe?.. but first we need EURO 2016 !!!

Genç March 26th, 2008, 11:27 AM It would be interesting, but I think UEFA and FIFA won't look favourably on joint bids after Poland/Ukraine 2012.
www.sercan.de March 26th, 2008, 11:42 AM I am sure Turkey can host a future WC alone.
I just hope all new stadiums can b expanded later to +40k

Kayseri: possible to add some rows at the endzone stand. Capacity would increase by 5,000 seats. So capacity woul be nearly 38,000.
