:lol::lol:nakakatuwa mga forumers d2. may intellectual, my cool, my ewan...parang d kasi nakakaintindi yung iba, forum ito.
everybody has the right to express his/her ideas. kung d maganda s pandinig mo ang 1 post, you are free to share your objections/opinion in an educated way. or better yet, just ignore it. it's also unhealthy na patigilin mo 1 forumer dahil lng s di mo nagustuhan opinion nya kc hindi mag-gogrow ang forum n 2. hindi lahat positive ang comments so be ready or just observe dahil pumasok k s isang forum. isipin mo n lng, bkit kaya nya nsabi un? maybe something's wrong, or may gusto syang malaman or he's up to something. parang boring din kung lagi n lng "oh yes you're right" kahit d k agree db? again just a reminder, forum is an open discussion and brainstorming is the name of the game (and keep cool).

everybody has the right to express his/her ideas. kung d maganda s pandinig mo ang 1 post, you are free to share your objections/opinion in an educated way. or better yet, just ignore it. it's also unhealthy na patigilin mo 1 forumer dahil lng s di mo nagustuhan opinion nya kc hindi mag-gogrow ang forum n 2. hindi lahat positive ang comments so be ready or just observe dahil pumasok k s isang forum. isipin mo n lng, bkit kaya nya nsabi un? maybe something's wrong, or may gusto syang malaman or he's up to something. parang boring din kung lagi n lng "oh yes you're right" kahit d k agree db? again just a reminder, forum is an open discussion and brainstorming is the name of the game (and keep cool).

The Uncomparable Bagoong (http://gopangasinan.blogspot.com/2007/01/uncomparable-bagoong.html)

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xhi91QL7jc/RbMDvgAsM0I/AAAAAAAAALc/IbS-MbJ0QuM/s200/bagoong.jpg (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__xhi91QL7jc/RbMDvgAsM0I/AAAAAAAAALc/IbS-MbJ0QuM/s1600-h/bagoong.jpg)
Pangasinan produces the best smelly"bagoong" (salted fish paste) in the world. It is always part of the menu of Pangasinenses wether as dip or seasoning for vegetable.

Bagoong started here because of the richness of fish catch from the gulf. According to our forefathers, they decided to preserve the extra fish that were not consumed and sold by putting salt. For that bagoong was born.

Pangasinan's bagoong still is considered as the best because of its aroma and the exotic taste which cannot be compared. The secret of Pangasinan's that differs from other bagoong producers around the country are the old clay jars which the fish is fermented. Those jars contribute to the special taste and aroma which cannot be copied.

The fermentation takes 3-6 months while the boneless fish will take a year. A can of salt is used for two cans of fish.

The fishes used to make bagoong are "dilis" [long-jawed anchovy], small "galunggong" [round scud], "caballas" [striped mackerel], "terong" (similar to anchovy) and "padas" ["siganid" fry].

How I miss eating green mangoes with bagoong!

Dito nga ako natatawa eh, sabi nila ayaw natin negative. pero bakit kapag we talk about tall buildings ay bigla silang nag-popost ng mall... at ayan, nakikipag-compete ulit. On which, hindi naman nakakaimpress, in fact, DAPAT lang magkaroon sila ng mall dahil sila naman ang maunlad diba? The point is, bakit ang mahihirap naprobinsiya like ilocos ay may tall buildings at nagkaroon pa tayo ng bonus, may robinsons, may puregold and soon SM.. In fact, we are not expecting them to come kasi MAHIRAP ang probinsya natin but malls keep coming? Yun ang impressive. Sana nagegets nila ung point dito. Pangasinan is performing well with regards to businesses like these and it is expected kasi mayaman at maunlad sila. Eh tayo mahirap lang, so IMPRESSIVE kapag nagka-mall at tall buildings tayo knowing that MAHIRAP lang tayo.

Pangasinan equals “one”
by Alex Romeo R. Fernandez

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Dec. 22 (PIA) —-“One.” This was the answer of Gov. Amado T. Espino Jr. to a media man who asked how he would describe this province now in a single word, alluding to the province’s battle cry ‘Pangasinan No. 1.”

Espino said this during the special edition of the Media in Action forum of the Pangasinan Press Club (PPC) held Tuesday at the Provincial Training and Development Center here.

Lawyer Gonzalo T. Duque, PPC president, moderated the forum which was attended by more than 100 local media practitioners.

Espino enumerated the various achievements of the province to include its win in the Region 1 Athletics Association to end the 11-year winning streak of Ilocos Norte, revival of Pangasinan culture through Asin ed Asinan, the creation of the OFW Desk and a passport processing office, among others.

He specifically cited health care as the most prominent achievement of the provincial government this year as evidenced by the increased capacity of the provincial hospital in San Carlos City, from 150 patients to 450.

He considered efficient delivery of services by the capitol employees and environmental protection considered as the second and third best achievements, respectively.

Launched by the province late this year was the ‘I Love Pangasinan,’ which is a wide-ranging campaign to improve education, tourism, sports, employment, culture, and environmental protection, among others.

Earlier in the year, a national awarding body ranked the province fifth in terms of efficiency in governance.

Asked what he would do to further improve the province, Espino said the provincial government would just have to simply continue its existing projects. LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Dec. 23 (PIA) -- Staying true to the goal of honing the sports skills of local athletes, the provincial government hosted the 1stOpen Table Tennis Tournament on December 9-11 at the Pangasinan State University.

The Open Ping-pong game, also known as the 1st Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. Cup, drew a large number of participants including various universities outside the province like the University of the Philippines-Diliman.

Modesto Operania, provincial sports consultant, said the tournament is part of the sports and youth development thrust of the provincial government.

The game was in partnership with the Pangasinan Table Tennis Federation.

The province has been the venue of many regional and national sports competition because of its complete facilities and warm response to host the games. It won its bid to host the Palarong Pambansa 2012 in April. (ANL/VHS-PIA 1 Pangasinan)

Health care, hospital services: Pangasinan’s most meaningful achievements in 2011
by Venus H. Sarmiento

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Dec. 22 (PIA) –- The provincial government of Pangasinan cited health care and hospital services as its most meaningful achievement this year.

Gov. Amado T. Espino Jr. told more than a hundred local media practitioners in a press conference held at the Provincial Training and Development Center in Lingayen town, that the reforms in health care that his administration has undertaken is something he is truly proud of and happy about.

The reforms include: the rehabilitation and facelifting of all the 13 government hospitals of the province; the increase in bed capacity of the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital in San Carlos City from 150 beds to 450; expanded coverage of the PhilHealth insurance; and improved maternal and child health care, among others.

Espino also cited the improved and efficient delivery of service of the provincial employees as the second most noteworthy achievement. “The way I see how they are working is an achievement,” he said.

Ranking third is environmental protection and youth programs. The province has received recognitions from various award-giving bodies in the region for its programs on cleanliness.

Espino rallied the media practitioners to write something good about the province and not to dwell on negative issues. “‘Tayo na muna ang magmahal sa ating probinsiya (Let's love our province first),” he said.

Vice Gov. Ferdinand Calimlim, who came to the presscon with the entire provincial board, said the ‘scorecard scheme’ initiated by the provincial government is comparable to a new ordinance of loving Pangasinan which imbibes a greater love beyond self.

“Ang basic reminder natin is keeping everything simple but with substance,” Calimlim said.

He also thanked the media and enjoined them to continue as partners in development.(ANL/VHS-PIA 1 Pangasinan)ito pa isa...rock ulit :lol::lol::lol:

Pangasinan donates P2 million to ‘Sendong' victims

by Venus H. Sarmiento
DAGUPAN CITY, December 23 (PIA) -- The provincial government of Pangasinan donated P1-million each to the calamity-stricken cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan.

Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. personally asked Vice Gov. Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to release funds for this purpose during the Media in Action forum held in Lingayen town.

“This is our way of helping our countrymen who suffered the wrath of typhoon Sendong,” Espino said.

City Information officer Orpheus Velasco, who personally went to Cagayan De Oro yesterday along with other Pangasinan officials to deliver the donation, said it is always good to help countrymen who are in dire need.

Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Vicente Emano expressed his gratitude to the generosity of Pangasinan and other provinces in extending assitance to the flood victims in his area.

“Thank you very much sa probinsiya ng Pangasinan. Hindi maliit na bagay ang isang milyon. Napakalaking tulong ito sa amin (Thank you very much to the province of Pangasinan. One million is not a small thing. It is a very big help to us),“ Ermano said over a phone- patched radio interview.

The cities of Cagayan De Oro, Iligan and Dumaguete suffered the most during the massive flooding that battered Visayas and Mindanao Friday. Death toll reached almost a thousand.

Cagayan De Oro was declared under state of calamity Monday afternoon after the City Council passed and approved the resolution. (ANL/VHS-PIA 1 Pangasinan)

Keep everything simple - local exec
by Alex Romeo R. Fernandez

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Dec. 22 (PIA) —- “Keep everything simple but with substance.”

This was the advice of Vice-Mayor Ferdinand Jose Calimlim as a formula for effective delivery of services.

“Madaling gawin, madaling ayusin, madaling intindihin pero punong-puno ng laman,” he said of how the various government programs and projects should be implemented.

He said this formula has been applied successfully by the provincial government since past local administrations.

Espino himself proved this point during the Media in Action forum of the Pangasinan Press Club at the Provincial Training and Development Center here on Tuesday, saying that as simple as having the comfort rooms at the capitol clean all the time has gained praise from visitors.

According to Calimlim, the writing of the Pangasinan Hymn in the local language to make it more understandable thereby instilling into the people the love for the province and its culture also jibes with the formula.

He expressed hope that the advice will be given substance by other towns by following the steps of the provincial government.

There is no reason for Pangasinan not to be the number one province in the country if all the towns adhere to the formula, he said. (ANL/ARRF-PIA 1 Pangasinan)1st talaga..in every aspects, good governance, location, etc:cheers:

In fact impressive ang agoo, rosario, bacnotan... I also see the rise of Naguilian... Ang Bauang naman ay naambunan ng SFC. every time i pass through these towns, nakikita ko ang progress, progress in La Union is not centralized.. it is well distributed... It is the thing that I want to happen in Ilocos Sur, because in first district, everyone relies to Vigan and Candon naman sa 2nd district.. However now, all towns in first district already have their own "new" public markets as proceeds from their tobacco excise tax shares and may mga investments narin around this business "core" per town, the rise Narvacan mall in Narvacan is also a good sign of commercial decentralization, so Narvacan people will trade in Narvacan, no need to go to Vigan or Candon.

If there is centralization of business, the advantage will be to mold a HUC fast but it will leave other towns sleeping... While it there is decentrlization of business estabs, we are teaching every town to become self-reliant, kung lahat sila successful, cityhood is fast approaching to each

In fairness, in Pangasinan, to the towns I pass by, the town of Villasis is really doing well .. :) Baka next na ring maging city ito.

That indeed great to know that you've seen progress throughout Ilocos region;) kudos to all the leaders of this developing region:cheers::cheers::cheers:

LAOAG CITY, Philippines (PIA) — The Ilocos Region, comprising the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan, has begun positioning itself as a gateway for growth branding itself as the “Agribusiness and tourism powerhouse in Northern Philippines.”:banana::banana:

To set the goal in motion, the Ilocos Regional Development Council has drawn a five-year development plan from 2011 to 2016 that would serve as a road map to making the region bullish in meeting its growth targets.

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union -- The Regional Development Council (RDC) has envisioned Ilocos Region (Region 1) to continue as the "Agribusiness and Tourism" growth center in the country for the next five years.

This was gleaned from a five-year development plan prepared by RDC which seeks to make Region 1 as a top destination for tourists and investments and consequently the food basket of the country from year 2011 to 2016.

In that five-year period, Region 1 is also expected to maintain the lead as a top producer of cash crops, like rice, corn, tobacco and vegetables, that could supply the needs not only of the whole nation but partly for North Asia.

To realize that plan, an integrated and coordinated programs was set into motion in the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan in order to overturn what RDC called a declining growth rate from 2007 to 2009 owing to the global economic recession that also affected the country.

The plan also focuses the setting up of the so-called growth nodes in the areas of agribusiness, trade, tourism and business process outsourcing in strategic areas of the region.

Ilocos “Partuat ken Tawid” launched in Pasig City

by Ben P. Pacris
PASIG CITY, Dec. 26 (PIA) -- The provincial government of Ilocos Sur , in coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Department of Tourism (DOT), launched the “Partuat ken Tawid” Trade Fair at Metro Walk here recently to promote Ilocano products and boost its tourism potentials.
Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson, chairman, League of Provinces of the Philippines, said that the Agro- Trade Fair, which started Dec. 12 until Christmas, aims to preserve and promote Ilocano culture and traditions including the province One Town, One Product (OTOP).
The governor said that some of the best sellers in the trade fair which are signatures of Ilocano heritage, include the Abel (loom weaving) of Caoayan town and Vigan City; Basi (Ilocano red wine) of San Ildefonso and Sta. Maria; Muebles (furniture) of San Vicente; Cornik and Special Bibingka of Bantay; Vigan Langgonisa and Bagnet; Bay-on (basket) of San Juan and other OTOPs.
“We will promote our very own products in Metro Manila and other parts of the country and the whole world, to boost the economy and create job opportunities for our constituents,”said the former congressman.
The Ilocos Sur Designers Association also produced an Abel Fashion Show featuring the Saniata or Muses of Ilocandia with their “Abel” gowns and the choral rendition of Ilocano songs and dances of the famous Ilocos Sur Choral Group during the opening of the Trade Fair.
Meanwhile, the Ilocos Sur Archives or Conscription Exhibit was held recently at the Metropolitan Museum, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Bldg in Manila to preserve and promote the rich culture and history of this first class province.
The Conscription, featuring the Basi Revolt, was sponsored by the provincial government in cooperation with the National Historical Commission and the Ilocos Sur Historical Foundation. (ANL/BPP-PIA 1 Ilocos Sur)

Laoag opens 80-hectare seaside lot as investment area (http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=1&t=1&id=69798)

LAOAG CITY, Dec. 27 (PIA) – Laoag is developing a P13-billion seaside property that can be an ideal site for theme parks, resort or small to large-scale industries.
The Laoag City government has started developing the 80-hectare beach property, covering the eastern coastal villages of La Paz, Caaocan, Navotas and Talingaan, to a low-cost housing project and a sports facility.:bow::bow::bow::bow:

Laoag Mayor Michael Fariñas said the city plans to develop the foreshore lot into a self-contained community complete with a housing area, a retirement village and an area for commercial and industrial establishments.

“The city is open to a joint venture agreement with interested parties and come up with a mutually beneficial development plan,” Fariñas said in his letter to prospective investors.:cheers::cheers:
At present, the city government has built a two-hectare low-cost housing area while another two hectares have been set aside for the Laoag City Sports Center.

“This property faces the South China Sea (South Philippine Sea) with some parts uniquely covered by vast tracks of sand dunes,” Fariñas said.

He said the property offers a variety of investment potentials from tourism centers, socialized or retirement housing and economic zones.

Laoag has been expanding its investment area because the city’s business center has exceeded its capacity for large-scale industries. New businesses have avoided the city’s cramped business district and built their establishments in outlying villages that offer wider spaces.

Consistent with the Aquino administration’s public-private partnership program, the city government has been pushing the seaside lot as an investment center and harness Laoag’s position as one of the growth nodes under the Ilocos Region’s development plan.

Under a five-year development plan from 2011 to 2016, the Ilocos Regional Development Council laid down a road map leading to the establishment of the Ilocos provinces as the agribusiness and tourism powerhouse in Northern Philippines. (ANL/CCA-PIA 1 Ilocos Norte)

Pangilinan trophy to PCCL champion

Manila, Philippines – The M.V. Pangilinan perpetual trophy, “Abutin Ang Tagumpay” bronze sculpture, will be awarded to this year’s national collegiate champion.

This was announced by Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) president Reynaldo Gamboa during the recent press launch of the Sweet 16 Finals of the Champions League held at ABS-CBN complex in Quezon City.
Names of winning teams are engraved in the trophy and the champion team keeps it during the period of its reign.

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) president Manny V. Pangilinan, in whose honor the championship trophy is named, has been the biggest supporter of the league that aims to determine the national collegiate champion at the end of the season.

Thirty collegiate leagues nationwide are involved in the endeavor, according to Gamboa who cited the fi nancial support of PLDT and Smart and the prize incentives personally provided by Pangilinan.

“The Champions League (PCCL) has grown during the past three years to be a truly nationwide search for the national collegiate champion,” Gamboa said.
An added boost to the growing popularity of the Champions League, ABS-CBN Sports, headed by Peter Musngi, has been providing television coverage to Champions League games.

In a bold move aimed at giving provincial leagues more exposure, ABS-CBN Sports started to cover the regional games for airing nationwide over Studio 23. The localities that hosted regional games this year included the Vigan City,:cheers: Naga City, Davao City and Ormoc city.

All the Sweet 16 games to be played at FilOil Flying V Arena and at Ormoc Astrodome are also covered and aired over Studio 23.

Other sponsors that are providing support to the Champions League are Molten Balls, FilOil Flying V, Philippine Star and SM Ticketing.

Was a good year, says Guv

AIMING FOR NUMBER 1

LOOKING back in the year that is about to close, Governor Amado Espino Jr. says “2011 was a good one for Pangasinan.”

The governor, speaking during the special edition of the Media in Action forum of the Pangasinan Press Club (PPC) last week, said 2011 “gave us studded and memorable events that made us stronger, more resilient and resolute in all things expected of us by our provincemates”.

He cited how the San Roque Power Corporation closely coordinated with the provincial government in effecting a pre-emptive release of water from the dam, saving Pangasinan from another deluge similar to the tragedy two years ago that cost lives and millions worth of properties.

The province set up the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) Desk that was opened at the height of the political crisis in Libya and Egypt and enabled workers from Pangasinan to communicate with their families.

Some 50 workers were repatriated back to their families in Pangasinan with the assistance of the now permanent OFW desk.

Espino also cited the various achievements of his administration, including Pangasinan’s various awards and its rise to being the fifth best province in the country based on the evaluation of the Department if Interior and Local Government.

He listed health care, improved work ethics among provincial officials and employees, environmental protection and youth development as his most meaningful accomplishments for the year.

This year, Pangasinan’s athletes also ended the 11-year supremacy of Ilocos Norte in the Region 1 Athletic Association Meet, earning back the province’s dominance in sports in Region 1.

Cultural development was enhanced with the launch of “Asin ed Asinan”, a project involving all provincial officials and employees to revive the province’s native culture and arts, the first “Balitok-a-Tawir” culture and arts festival, and the “I Love Pangasinan” campaign.

The province now has its own official hymn entitled “Luyag Mi Tan Yaman” made official by a provincial ordinance.

During the year, the province forged sisterhood ties with the island of Guam, following the historic visit to the province of two senators from the island territory of the United States.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Espino also announced that the first phase of the construction of the Sual International Seaport is now 23 percent complete.

Phase 1, which includes the construction of the port embankment and the pier itself, is expected to be completed in November next year.

Meanwhile, site development of the 300-hectare eco-tourism zone in Barangay Estanza, Lingayen is also ongoing.

Espino expressed hope that the first tranche of investment will speed up development at the start of the second quarter of 2012.

The provincial government will also have its hands full preparing for the 2012 Palarong Pambansa in May.

“Hosting the Palarong Pambansa the second time around (the first was in 1995) is a big challenge and opportunity for us to showcase once again our province’s growth, assets and rich cultural traits,” Espino said.

Espino said his administration is bent on realizing the province’s goal of becoming “Number 1” in the country.http://sundaypunch.prepys.com/archives/2011/12/25/was-a-good-year-says-guv/:tongue4::tongue4::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::dance2::dance2::dance2:

4 LGUs allocate funds for MDG projects
Posted on December 25, 2011 - Filed Under Inside News, News | Leave a Comment

ALAMINOS CITY—Four local government units (LGUs) in western Pangasinan have formalized the integration of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) in their annual investment plan for 2012.

Alaminos City and the municipalities of Bani, Burgos and Dasol have allocated funds for various MDG-related programs and projects from their respective 20 percent development funds next year.

Roland Cabigas, managing director of the La Liga Policy Institute said the three municipalities alone have set aside almost P200 million for MDG projects, which are geared towards improving the delivery of basic social services for the poorest of the poor in their respective localities.

Alaminos City, the biggest of the four LGUs, allocated P112 million, representing 35.5 per cent of the city’s P315 million proposed budget for next year.

Bani’s allocation is P61.5 million; Burgos, P13.7 million; and Dasol, P10.3 million.

“The integration of the MDGs in the AIP for 2012 concretized the commitment of the concerned LGUs towards achieving the MDG by 2015, especially because it came at a time when the LGUs are experiencing huge cuts in their internal revenue allotment,” said Alaminos Mayor Hernani A. Braganza, concurrent secretary general of the League of Cities of the Philippines.

Citizens’ groups took part in the planning process, including the budget appropriation after the identification of important MDG programs and projects that will best boost the chances of the LGUs in achieving their local MDGs.

La Liga, a development policy research and advocacy non-government organization, facilitated the process of budget-tagging the MDG-related programs and projects.

The MDG targets, based on a commitment signed by several countries, include programs and projects related to the eradication of extreme poverty, promote universal primary education and maternal health, as well as ensure environmental sustainability.

Pangasinan gets new P90M hospital equipment
Posted on December 25, 2011 - Filed Under Inside News, News | Leave a Comment

LINGAYEN–Some P90 million worth of brand new hospital equipment were turned over on December 19 by the Department of Health (DoH) to Pangasinan for use in the 14 government-owned hospitals around the province.

Governor Amado Espino Jr. received the equipment from Dr. Jemuel Cardenas, OIC regional director of the DOH in Region 1, and thanked the national agency for its contribution to the provincial government’s health program that included the refurbishing of the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) in San Carlos City, six district hospitals and various community hospitals.

Espino said the new equipment upgrades the facilities of the provincial government-run hospitals, which will now be able to handle more delicate medical cases.

Dr. Jackson Soriano, chief of the PPH, said the equipment were requested by the hospitals to be able to respond to the needs of a continuously growing number of patients better.

Provincial officials said it would have taken the provincial government years to fund all the requested equipment without the DoH assistance.

Among the most expensive equipment were one unit of 3D Echo Machine with Heart Probe costing P4.05.million; x-ray machine 500 mA with automatic film processor, P2.9million; one unit of X-ray machine 300 mA, P2.4 million; two units of anesthesia machine with ventilator at P1.4 million each; and one unit of Automatic X-ray processor worth P400,000.

The heads of the different hospitals brought their respective equipment back to their respective hospitals after witnessing the turnover.

Region 1 to continue as agri-business, tourism growth center in Phl
By Lilia M. Micua

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Dec. 25 (PNA) -- The Regional Development Council (RDC) has envisioned Region 1 to continue as the "Agribusiness and Tourism" growth center in the country for the next five years.

To realize that plan, an integrated and coordinated programs was set into motion in the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan in order to overturn what RDC called a declining growth rate from 2007 to 2009 owing to the global economic recession that also affected the country.

The plan also focuses the setting up of the so-called growth nodes in the areas of agribusiness, trade, tourism and business process outsourcing in strategic areas of the region.

For 2011, Ilocos Norte under the leadership of Governor Imee Marcos launched a grand tourism plan with the setting up of new tourist and business centers, seeking to capture major investments and to be made a tourism hub in Northern Luzon.

Economic indicators in 2011 already pointed to Ilocos Norte as the leading province in terms of tourist arrivals based on statistics compiled by the Department of Tourism (DOT) regional office from tourist-oriented establishments.

This despite the fact that Ilocos Norte is the farthest province in Region 1 from the nation's capital Manila. However, the presence of the Laoag International Airport made Manila only more than an hour away from Ilocos Norte, and Taiwan just few hours away.

On the other hand, Ilocos Sur, the region’s heritage center with Vigan, acclaimed as a world's heritage city, is now also building eco-tourism adventure activities to catch a wider tourism market.

La Union is not far behind in tourism as well as investments. Its Poro Point Special Economic Zone continued in 2011 as a major investment hub in the region.

But sadly, the San Fernando-Manila route via the San Fernando Airport was closed last year when the carrier that was servicing the route pulled out due to poor passenger patronage.

Nevertherless, La Union's tourism is continuously booming just like in other parts of the region.

On the other hand, Pangasinan, the biggest province in the whole of Region 1, is also taking tourism seriously. Gov. Amado Espino Jr. already made Lingayen the microcosm of tourism in the entire province of Pangasinan.

Espino has made the provincial capitol another tourist magnet in Pangasinan, only in addition to the Manaoag Church, the Hundred Islands, the scenic beaches of Bolinao and Bani, the Manleluag Park in Mangatarem and the Balungao hot spring.

Based on records of the DOT, Pangasinan ranks only second to Ilocos Norte in the number of tourist arrivals.

As the biggest province in Region 1, both in area and population, Pangasinan occupies a vast geographical component in the whole of Northern Luzon, according to RDC.

For 2011, Pangasinan already started building an eco-tourism zone, topped by an 18-hole golf course of international standard in Lingayen; an international shipping port in Sual which is now 23 percent in its first phase; and an international airport in Alaminos City.

According to RDC, the region’s traditional cash crops, like rice, corn, tobacco and vegetables, will continue to play a very critical role in shoring up opportunities for the agribusiness sector.

The tobacco industry, now dubbed as a sunset industry due to the worldwide campaign against tobacco use, is yet expected to continue to be resilient for the next four years.

However, tobacco producers are now being encouraged other uses of tobacco, such as for bio-pesticide and pulp and paper for the tobacco stalks that are normally discarded after the harvesting season.

But because of climate change, the region's agriculture sector is expected to adopt more appropriate technologies that would not only be cost-effective but also provide lasting protection to the environment.

On the other hand, local products will also be subjected to branding and certification to boost the marketing campaign of the One Town One Product (OTOP) products of the local government units.

For instance, the tasty Dagupan bangus is now being branded and getting certification from responsible government agencies to prevent out-of-town traders from making use of the name of the product for similar products elsewhere. (PNA)

Dir. Nuestro is witnessing the demonstration of the honey processing in La Union Honeybee Center

Message of DA Secretary Proceso J. Alcala
(Message delivered by BAI Director Efren C. Nuestro on behalf of Department of Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala during the inauguration & blessing of La Union Honeybee Center, Raois, Bacnotan, La Union, September 2, 2011)

The Honorable La Union First District Congressman Victor Ortega, former DA Secretary now Bohol Third District Congressman Arthur Yap; Governor Manuel Ortega, Mayor Rufino Fontanilla, NARTDI Executive, Dr. Apolonio Sito; OIC DMMMSU President, Dr. Diosdado Bangug; DMMMSU VP for R&E, Dr. Florentina Dumlao; Engr., Orlando Balloguing, President of Beekeeper Association of Philippines, Inc., Dr. Jose Reaño, private sector representative to the NARDTI Advisory Board, Provincial Board Member Pepe Ortega, fellow government workers, guests, ladies and gentlemen, good afternoon to everyone and most specially our beekeepers.

It is an honor to for me to be invited here in this special occasion which is the inauguration and blessing of La Union Honeybee Center here in Raois, Bacnotan, La Union.

The Department of Agriculture, in general, and the Bureau of Animal Industry, in particular is happy to witness this momentous event as a new development in the honey industry in the Philippines. The Department of Agriculture has already recognized the inclusion of the apiculture/beekeeping asone of the commodities of the Department of Agriculture and the significant contribution of this emerging industry in the agriculture sector.

The country is producing honey at 150 metric tons per year. This is not enough to satisfy the requirement of the different end-users using this honey such as the households, hotels, restaurants and other institutional buyers. The country has imported honey in 2009 at 399 tons valued at $ US 1.32 million or an estimated peso value of P61 million. We are also importing artificial honey of 104 tons valued at P4 million. In 2009, the major supplier of natural honey is Australia which contributes around 89 percent of the supply of honey in 2009. India contributed three (3) percent, United States and Austria contributed both two (2) percent. Thailand and Egypt contributed both only one (1) percent.

With this new La Union Honeybee Center which the province of La Union envisioned to make your province the “Honeybee Capital of the North” we believe that this is a good move for the honey industry stakeholders to be competitive and profitable.:banana::banana::cheers:This center basically answers that concern of our beekeepers of getting one-stop-shop center that will help our beekeepers to improve their post-production and marketing activities of the supply chain of the bee industry which will encourage more farmers to go into the beekeeping and produce more honey.

The Secretary would be happy to note of the development of apiculture in La Union and rest assured that he will provide the much needed support to the industry.

On a personal note, BAI Director Efren Nuestro said that while going to La Union he saw billboard of a big fastfood chain which support in promoting the honeybee industry by posting says the words “Bee Happy” with their mascot. To him he says that it shows of the unity or cooperation of the food service stakeholder with the honey industry stakeholders for the apiculture development in the province.

Let’s all move forward to a higher level of call and become a “Champion” in our individual area of participation in the honeybee industry development in the country. Good afternoon again to each one and “Mabuhay ang honey industry” in La Union and in the Philippines.

3 out of 4 Ain't Bad.................
EASTWEST Bank chairman of the board Jonathan Gotianun said the Philippines is definitely on a growth path and can face the next few years with optimism.

"The only question is how fast we will be growing, whether this growth will be moderate or be significantly above what we have experienced in the last decade. With the right government policies conducive to growth, I think we can aspire for the latter," he said during the 2011 Economic Briefing sponsored recently by EastWest Bank for senior executives of its corporate clients.

The EastWest Bank Economic Briefing featured presentations by two keynote speakers, noted economists Dr. Raul V. Fabella and Dr. Ramon M. Quesada. Dr. Fabella observed that Asia is the redeeming grace and has shown remarkable resiliency in the midst of a bleak global outlook. The overall health of the Philippine banking sector is sound and stable, with bank credit showing a 19 percent growth, he said. On the other hand, Dr. Quesada said while the Philippines had taken off as a nation but "came back to earth," specific individuals, industries and integrated areas continued to post remarkable growth in the past few decades.

EastWest’s annual economic briefings are one of the services the bank gives its corporate and entrepreneur accounts to help them keep abreast with current economic trends and developments that have impact on their businesses. "These can provide valuable insights not only on directions the economy is taking but also on the opportunities one might be able to explore, given these trends," Gotianun noted.

Dr. Fabella noted there was not much the government can do about the downward trajectory in the country’s GNI and GDP growth rates since these reflect the global activity slowdown. Weak government spending, which appears to be a ‘planned lethargy,’ and exports weighed down 2011 growth. The commodity price slowdown due to global slowdown has helped tame domestic inflation, possibly hitting 4 to 4.5 percent by year end. Remittances from Filipino global workers and BPO are still a main source of the country’s growth.

While weaknesses in major developed economies continue to drag the global recovery and pose risks for world economic stability, developing countries in Asia will continue to drive the global recovery, but their output growth is also expected to moderate to 6.0 percent on average during 2011-2012.

The local banking sector has remained sound and stable and is expected to withstand the headwinds from the US and Europe, Dr. Fabella said. Profitability ratios have shown consistent average upward growth since 2001, with return on equity hitting a high of nearly 13 percent and return on assets nearly 2 percent in 2010

In terms of income classes, Dr. Quesada reported as of 2009, the Philippines, along with Indonesia, Vietnam and Rural China was transitioning into middle class; Brunei and Singapore were classified as largely affluent; Malaysia, Thailand and Urban China as largely middle class; and Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar as largely low income.

He said the country’s gross domestic regional product (GDRP) was estimated at P8.5 trillion in 2010, of which Metro Manila produced P3.1 trillion or 36.5 percent, followed by Calabarzon, Central Luzon, Central Visayas, Western Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, Ilocos, and Bicol making up the top ten.

As of 2007, the top 15 Philippine provinces with high average family income were Bataan, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batanes, Pampanga, Ilocos Norte, Benguet, Batangas, Nueva Vizcaya, South Cotabato, Zambales, La Union and Ilocos Sur.

Top 10 Philippine cities with high average family income included Makati, Quezon City, Las Pinas, San Juan, Paranaque, Pasig, Iloilo City, Mandaluyong, Manila and Pasay, as of the 2000 National Statistics Office census.

Dr. Quesada noted that the cities with high family income were those with high population density. In an international course where he was a speaker, he said the other country delegates were envious of our population. These were wealthy countries but whose population was aging.

The worldwide trend also shows more late marriages, two-children families, same gender preference, and increasing work migration with over half a million Filipinos going abroad.

Acknowledging its clients’ support in boosting the bank’s performance, EastWest Bank president and CEO Antonio Moncupa reported that EastWest has outgrown the banking industry by a factor of three times.

"Our compounded growth rate is at about 30 percent in terms of total assets, total deposits and total loans, as against the annual industry compounded growth rate of 9 percent. Our NPL continues to be very much under control, resulting in EastWest Bank being now one of the most profitable banks in the industry in terms of equity and returns on assets," he said.

Referring to a recent newspaper report, Moncupa also said EastWest Bank was recently recognized by The Asian Banker, a multinational company that provides business intelligence on the financial services industry, as one of the 500 strongest banks in Asia. "While we are still towards the end (of the list of 500), what is significant is we have registered the most significant progress among all global banks in the Philippines, the largest gainer with a 191 percent increase in 2010 profits vs. 2009 income."

He also underscored the distinction of EastWest being the only bank with a loan portfolio that is more or less equally divided between consumer and corporate loans. The bank also aims to have at least 300 branches in the next three years.

EastWest is in the midst of preparations for a planned initial public offering by the first semester of 2012. "With this, we hope to signal to the banking public that we have prepared to be more transparent, to improve our governing practices, to further assure our customers that their money is safe with EastWest, and that we are building more capabilities to meet their needs in terms of loans and other important services," Moncupa disclosed.

Moncupa said these efforts are encapsulated in the bank’s recent re-branding exercise led by FutureBrand, one of the more prominent branding companies in the world, which came up with the bank’s new logo of two conjoined chevrons in light green, purple and magenta and its new tagline, Your Dream Our Focus

such a small region with 3 small provinces with Pangasinan as a giant for one yet we are kicking!

Yup, high per capita income is one of the indicators of a high-quality living since it is parallel to purchasing power.

I know Pangasinan will join the list soon and hope we can maintain our standings. Super Region 1. Look at the list, most of the provinces listed are those which are industrialized near Metro Manila. One is from Mindanao. Nueva Vizcaya is expected, they have also the Philippine's richest town right? (alfonso castaneda), And of course 3 slots are for region 1. Then the tiny Batanes is awesome!

bataan today has sprouting investments everywhere in the province like bataan technopark. Nueva vizcaya has low population density, yet they have SM Savemore, which is the first in Region2. Prices of commodities are the cheapest in Batanes. A thousand pesos for example will go long way. Ilocos provinces plus La Union will continue to enjoy the benefits of ofw remittances, improved farming technology and numerous investments as income sources to its citizens

Hmmmm... Nah.. they are still the "premier" province. They have many malls and business establishments, "city-looking" cities and the best place to live! They are truly undisputed, me too, I am praying that our premier province will make it into the cut next time. If Batanes did it, they can do better, because our premier province is truly undisputed, they should beat Batanes first for this, a province mainly agricultural with no malls. Let's support our premier province so that the 3 will become four.:cheers:

an ganda, para kang nasa first world nation:rock::rock::rock:

soon there will be sprouting real estate developers all throughout the region. We expect, as what was released in the press before, that Vista Land owned by former Sen. Manny Villar will soon locate a real estate development project at Ilocos Norte, Sur and La Union.

Espino said his administration is bent on realizing the province’s goal of becoming “Number 1” in the country.http://sundaypunch.prepys.com/archives/2011/12/25/was-a-good-year-says-guv/:tongue4::tongue4::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::dance2::dance2::dance2::soon::soon: pangasinan 1st,50th,56th last 57th...ilocos 3 provinces.. respectively:cheers:

Hmmmm... Nah.. they are still the "premier" province. Let's support our premier province so that the 3 will become four.:cheers:

it's actually shocking for us because our region has a front liner, and that's the premier one yet didn't make the cut:nuts::nuts::nuts: absurdity at its best:lol::lol::lol: daming ngang malls at world class cities:lol::lol::lol: let's collaborate with each other to pull up our premier province to where it should belong;)

Who cares? Pangasinan naman talaga ang "premiere" province ng Ilocos Region eh." The fact here is that we are just realistic and we post by evidence... We are contented with what we have and whether or not PangasSinAn is with region 1 or not, we are still happy for the region because we are not after the ranking, we are after a high per capita income living that will make our lives better. Just live with your rank, and we'll live with fields of gold and bed of roses.. Ang sarap niyan kahit Rank 1000 pa!:cheers::cheers:

yup, ang daming kasi CBDs sa Batac:cheers: nasa kanila ang BSP Ilocos Norte;) naungasan ng Candon noon kasi naging city agad ang Candon at mas mataas ang IRA share na nakukuha while Batac's cityhood bill that time was still pending kaya IRA niya ay maliit, but now, since it's a city, it's getting its fair share sa IRA, let's give Batac a time to position itself to become a progressive city:banana::banana::banana:
