This is my newest picture project.
Lots of people know the sights in Vienna's Inner City yet don't know that there are actually 23 districts in my city.
I am going to portray each and every one of the districts in this series to make you familiar with the Real World Vienna.

HERNALS - 17th District

Area: 11.53 km²
Pop.: 52,600

Quite similarly to the 14th and 16th districts, Hernals can be regarded as divided into (at least) two major parts, a lower densely populated one in the east and a green and largely unurban western one, up the hillsides.

Hernalser Hauptstraße:

One of the most beautiful swimming pools in Vienna, the Jörgerbad:

Rather steep streets towards the north:

The sex industry can be found here, as well.

Lazaristenkirche? (Can anyone confirm, please?)

Crossing Hernalser Hauptstraße, an important E-W connection. Facing east (into the city):

Facing west. A line 43 tram and a northbound S45 light rail train can be seen.

A southbound S45:

The cemetary of Hernals:

Call me crazy, but I love cemetaries. Especially this one.

We are gaining altitude pretty quickly:

Uh, bad lighting....
Anyway, the stadium flare lights belong to Sportclubplatz. Wiener Sportclub is one of the most important traditional Viennese football clubs. Unfortunately, they've seen better days.

No, we have not left the city:

Not exactly a poor hood:

A view of the whole city. That's one thing I really adore about Vienna: the hills.

The entrance of Schafbergbad, a fine open air pool. Actually (I only recently found out), the fence is also the border beween Hernals and Währing (18th District).

OK, first of all: I know that the image quality is largely not up to par. I'm sorry. That's because I left home way to late to do a careful and really sensible tour. When you know that the sun's going down soon, you start to hurry and end up with less than convincing results. I might even re-do it, who knows?

But anyway, I hope you enjoyed this next report!
(The other links are in my sig!)

Leiwand as usual!

I am especially delighted this time, as this is the district where I spent most of my childhood. Great to see the Jörgerbad, Parhamerplatz (my ex-school) as well as the tramway loop of the 43 (our damn teachers wandered the crap out of us in the Neuwaldegg area...) again, as I currently have no time to go there myself.
Lazaristenkirche? (Can anyone confirm, please?)It is the Marienkirche. Damn, I had to look it up. The knowledge from my church-project is disappearing...

Cant wait for the damn spring, as it will propably motivate you properly for the last few districts... ;)
