This is my newest picture project.
Lots of people know the sights in Vienna's Inner City yet don't know that there are actually 23 districts in my city.
I am going to portray each and every one of the districts in this series to make you familiar with the Real World Vienna.

WÄHRING - 18th District

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/8e/Kartewien18.png/180px-Kartewien18.png http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/24/Wien_Wappen_W%C3%A4hring.png/100px-Wien_Wappen_W%C3%A4hring.png

Area: 6.28 km²
Pop.: 47,400

Währing is another rather mundane, high-brow district, with lots of villas (cottages, as people here like to refer to them), greenery and big fat SUVs.

Yes, life is good sometimes...

Very nice, very nice.

I never remember, isn't the main building of the Boku, the Gregor Mendel Haus already in Währing as well?
But if you missed it here, you still get the chance to include the Exnerhaus of the Boku when you are making your rounds in Döbling... :)

It's already in the 19th district.

Excellent job. I love to see less touristic areas of well know cities.

Wien looks remarkably homogeneous (or better, homogeneously wonderful ;)) even outside of the Ring. I assume it is so because it was a big city already 150 years ago.

Have a second look on a Vienna map ;)

The main building is located in the 18th district, together with the Türkenschanzpark. The Exnerhaus on the other side of the street however together with the Schwackhöferhaus belongs to the 19th district.

I had to bump up this thread. Wonderful photos -- they really give a sense of actually living in that section of Vienna, as do the shots in your more recent thread profiling Alsergrund.

I was an exchange student in Vienna for a few months in the late '70s and lived at the edge of the 18th district and commuted to the university area through the 9th district. It's fascinating to see the similarities and differences in appearance between now and 30 years ago (a lot more face-lifted pastel exteriors).

That's what I love about Vienna: there's old architecture even outside the central part of the city; I'd even dare say most of Vienna is like that.

Hey Bahnsteig - Awesome pics - Just spent hours going from 2nd Bezirk to the 18th Bezirk....really cool commentary too.... Love Vienna with all its diversities and possibilities. Will be there again in a month and you've given me some new ideas of places to hit and possible new fotos to add to my Vienna survey. Cheers!

Hey Stefanguti - I made lots of fotos for a survey of Vienna and also a whole survey of Philadelphia - two really awesome metropolises. Vienna is the city where my family came from and Philadelphia is the cool city where most of my family now lives. Because I had to show them to a lot of people at the same time, I did them in dia-positivs because I don't have enough money for a digital projector. I did do a digital show of Vienna at Christmas and I could post some of them.

btw - as much as I'm into Bahnsteig4's rocking photo survey of the Wienerbezirke, I really like reading the additional comments from people like you. hawi dere....Jeff
