Houston has its own thread (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=147895). ;)

You mean subforum. The city of Houston needs to pay out the $400,000 fee that goes with the application to the skyscraper board to honor the request. Chicago did this back in 2002 when the price was only $275,000.

I'll tell you why:

It's obvious. Houston just isn't large enough or world class enough like Atlanta, Dallas, New Orleans, Nashville, Charlotte, etc. Those cities don't even have one yet and they are miles ahead of Houston in size, skyline, and overall global city status.

Just messin' with you.

Same reason why Dallas doesn't have one either.

It depends on how active discussions about a city get. Houston is a great city, one of my fav in the US, but right now, the discussions are not enough for an own sub-forum.

not enough highrise construction activity perhaps? but then LA also lacks in highrise construction compared to the other cities...I don't know.

There is plenty. Houston has its own local forum (which has over 230,000 posts and 4,700 members).

Maybe that is why it is so light over here on SSC? Get 50-75 of those people over here to post reguarly about Houston happenings and you will get a sub-forum in not time, IMO. Notice that the sub forums are far more than just building threads, transit, infrastructure and activities also play a large role, all of which Houston has plenty to talk about.

yep. The same for Dallas as well. I think these two cities have the largest city based forums on the internet if I'm not mistaken. Maybe St. Louis's forum is just as large.

HAIF is at 231,000 posts, Dallas Metropolis is at 191,000 posts, and Urban St. Louis is at 113,000 posts.

HAIF was actually completely destroyed in 2004, and lost about 40,000 posts

It happens all the time on the internet. HAIF was not as secure back then as it is now (it is VERY secure now).

I used to be a regular on HAIF from 2001 till 2004. After it was destroyed I quit going. It just was not the same. Way too many new immature people flooded the site.

Both Jasonhouse and FloridaFuture agreed with the other forumers that tampa was in need of its own forum. Too many threads where getting lost in the Florida subforum and the best way to handle it was to make Tampa have it's own. And by looking at Tampa's subforum, you can see we aren't slowwing down, it has actually increased in posts and visitors in the past 3 weeks.

I don't know why Houston doesn't have it's own subforum. I really haven't been to your guy's thread to see how busy it is.

Miami has a subforum, but there are only5 active people posting there.

Its all about the posts and the active people using them, not the size of the city. SSC is about the only place that I know of on the web with a decent amount of people posting about Tampa. Our subforum is actually rather active, check it out of you are in doubt of me. It is more active than the LA forum most days, and of course LA is a far large city. Of course Houston, Dallas, and San fran are far larger cities...that is a big reason that they have their own space on the web with a very active forum and Tampa does not.

Pehaps a Texas subforum would be a good idea though, most of the posts in the southeast forum are acutally Texas related.

Yes, I agree. That would be a good start.

Maybe the question is "why aren't there a lot of threads about Houston, or even Texas?"
