Unique project to provide recreational space for residents
Dhs26.8 million Port Saeed Plaza project approved
Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Chairman of Dubai Municipality, has approved a beautification project for Port Saeed area, known as Port Saeed Plaza, at a total cost of Dhs26.8 million.
Announcing this Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality, said the project seeks to turn an open space in the midst of several high-rise buildings in Port Saeed Area into a serene place for the residents to unwind.
"This project is unique and first of its kind undertaken by Dubai Municipality in the central business districts of the city. It effectively puts to use a total of 1.39 hectors of land (13,893 square meters) for the benefit of the residents in a busy neighbourhood," said Mr. Lootah.
He noted that works of the project would begin very soon and would take approximately a year to complete.
"The project comprises of demolition of the existing temporary car park area and construction of a plaza which includes shaded multi-purpose space that can be used on festive occasions and celebrations, an open-air stage which can host musical events, exhibitions, folk-performances, heritage activities…etc, a function lawn, shaded play areas, water features and a 200 meter jogging track," he added.
He said the project would also include children's play areas, a car parking area with a capacity of 75 cars, two gallery buildings, a café, service building, hard landscaping and a planted area.
A giant electronic billboard and small kiosks for retail goods will also be set up as part of the project.
