Been a while since this thread was updated, here are a few shots from the "Skyscrapers Under Construction" section thread.

Russian Sam is a scale model maker from St. Petersburg who posts on SkyscraperCity. He was recently invited to Oklahoma City to take part in the Creativity World Forum because of his work on a tiny paper model of our downtown, which you can find here: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1088789

No additional rumors about Dowell's project, but now the attention is on the downtown Ford dealership site which spans more than 3 full blocks. The dealership is closing and the developers are going to build a mix of retail and residential there, and the Core to Shore planning study recommended a high-density structure on that site.

okc has some relatively interesting density that surrounds its downtown along the west flank. you never really notice it in person though. it would have naturally made more sense to revitalize that area in the 90s than bricktown.

but who cares about naturally making sense.

Seems like the Dowell project may be scrapped or held off completely for a few years, at least considering the current economic climate... And is the Ford dealership closing have anything to do with the Ford Center negotiations? Where is the current location by the way?

The Ford site is quite large, adjacent to both Myriad Garden and the arena, and will benefit from proximity to new Devon Tower and its location along the future boulevard. I believe the naming rights and the downtown dealership were somehow connected.

Yeah, it made it to 29 floors before the storm and will surpass the Chase Tower soon! :cheers:

Well, this tower is very quickly establishing itself more and more as the tallest building in town. Seeing it is an awesome experience, and now that it is the tallest, it is kind of jaw-dropping every time I go by. It's hard to imagine the skyline without Devon now. Here are some photos that caught my eye recently.

This photo is taken from the Lake Hefner dam, a 9 (!) mile crow flight from Devon Tower. Foreground highrises are residential and office buildings are part of the NW Expressway business district. Downtown buildings peek over the ridge, and Devon is going to soar into view over Lake Hefner. From Mrktguy29, Photobucket.

This one wowed me too, by OURulz2000 at OKCTalk. The canyon on Harvey is pretty dramatic now, with the view terminated by the public rotunda of the Devon Tower. The street will be a new "view/pedestrian spine" for downtown, which will extend through a new central park south to the river via a high-design pedestrian bridge over I-40.

Well, I think that the crown will be braced but otherwise left open to screen rooftop mechanicals, if I'm not mistaken.

It's a taste of things to come for OKC. :)

Unfortunately, Chesapeake Energy is ensconced in their low-rise campus of 3-5 story buildings which they are adding to so a tower for them is very unlikely. Sandridge Energy has a site downtown for a tower rumored to be 20 floors and may build at some time in the near future. Of course everyone here would like to see them stretch those plans skyward! ;)

Just waiting on the next tower announcement...

i think this is one of the most impressive pieces of postmodern architecture in the world. from the ground level, this building has a remarkable street presence. the setting will continue to get better as development around it heats up, and the myriad gardens directly across the street have been redone into one of the best new urban green spaces (as a highly-programmed park a la millenium park in chicago).

Beautiful...simply beautiful.

Good for Oklahoma City! This tower is spectacular. Now just get two more towers in there to take away the fact that is over powers everything else. Outside of that, world class building.
