KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 14. 2012): Golden Screen Cinemas Sdn Bhd (GSC) will open eight new cinemas costing more than RM84 million this year, said its chief executive officer, Koh Mei Lee.

She said GSC would add 71 more screens or halls to its current 23 cinema locations nationwide, for a total of 191 screens.

The new cinemas are the nine-screen GSC Setia City Mall in Shah Alam, which opens in May, the nine-screen GSC Paradigm Mall in Kelana Jaya, also in May, the 10-screen GSC City One Mall in Kuching (third quarter of 2012), the 10-screen GSC Palm Mall in Seremban, eight-screen Amanjaya Mall in Sungai Petani and 11-screen GSC Nu Sentral in Kuala Lumpur, all in the fourth quarter of this year.

Speaking at the company's 25th anniversary celebrations here last night, Koh said GSC had also launched "GSC Lite", a new branding for cinemas in smaller towns, which offer competitive prices without compromising the effects of the big screen and digital sound hall experience available in other GSC cinemas.

The new cinemas under GSC Lite branding will be the six-screen GSC Mentakab Star Mall, which will open next week, and the nine-screen GSC Bintang Mall in Miri, in November.

The current GSC Pelangi Leisure Mall in Johor Bahru, GSC Central Square in Sg Petani, GSC Ipoh Parade in Ipoh, GSC Terminal 1 in Seremban and GSC Berjaya Megamall in Kuantan will be converted to GSC Lite cinemas.

Other officials present at the celebrations included, Irving Chee (GSC General Manager), Liew Aing Suan (Senior Manager, Cinema Exhibition), Heng Beng Fatt (Senior Manager, Corporate Services) and Tung Yow Kong ( Senior Manager, GSC Movies). - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR - Golden Screen Cinemas Sdn Bhd akan membuka lapan pawagam baru yang berharga lebih RM84 juta tahun ini, kata Ketua
Pegawai Eksekutifnya, Koh Mei Lee.

Beliau berkata GSC akan menambah 71 lagi skrin atau dewan pawagam kepada 23 lokasi semasa pawagamnya di seluruh negara, kepada sebanyak 191 skrin.

Pawagam baru berkenaan merupakan GSC Setia City Mall dengan sembilan skrin di Shah Alam, yang akan dibuka pada Mei, GSC Paradigm Mall dengan sembilan skrin di Kelana Jaya, juga pada Mei, GSC City One Mall dengan 10 skrin di Kuching (suku ketiga 2012), GSC Palm Mall dengan 10 skrin di Seremban, Amanjaya Mall dengan lapan skrin di Sungai Petani dan GSC Nu Sentral dengan 11 skrin di Kuala Lumpur, semua pada suku keempat tahun ini.

Bercakap pada majlis sambutan ulangtahun ke-25 syarikat itu di sini malam tadi, Koh berkata GSC juga telah melancarkan "GSC Lite", penjenamaan baru untuk
pawagam di bandar kecil yang akan menawarkan harga yang kompetitif tanpa kompromi kesan skrin besar dan pengalaman bunyi digital dewan yang terdapat
dalam panggung wayang GSC lain.

Pawagam baru di bawah penjenamaan GSC Lite adalah GSC Mentakab Star Mall dengan enam skrin, yang akan dibuka minggu depan, dan GSC Bintang Mall

UK’s Mace Group to invest RM3b in M’sia

It targets projects in economic development corridors

KUALA LUMPUR: The Mace Group of the United Kingdom, a global consultancy and construction giant, will invest RM3bil in Malaysia over five years, thus giving foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country a timely boost.

Mace inked a memorandum of understanding with Corridor Development Corp Bhd (CDC), an investment promotion agency, for future development projects in Malaysia, particularly in the regional development corridors.

Mace director Mark Richards said the group was set to work closely with CDC on a number of construction, real estate and industrial projects in the development corridors.

He said Mace in the initial stage, was looking at between RM200mil and RM300mil investments in construction-related projects, particularly in the Sungai Rambai development projects.

With a portfolio including the tallest skyscraper in Europe, London's renowned Shard of Glass, and building works for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Mace now had a foothold in Malaysia, Richard said.

We are starting discussions with CDC on specific projects and we expect activities between us to roll out in the first two quarters of next year, he told Bernama in an e-mail.

The five economic development corridors are the Northern Corridor Economic Region, Eastern Corridor Economic Region, Sarawak Corridor for Renewable Energy (Score), Sabah Development Corridor and the Iskandar Development Region.

Meanwhile, CDC group chairman Datuk Muhammed Kassim said the target was to bring in another RM30mil to RM50mil in investments next year, both locally and from overseas, for projects in Malaysia.

He said the company would be concentrating on attracting FDIs for the services and manufacturing-related industries.

Muhammed said the company currently had a number of development and construction projects in hand with a gross development value (GDV) of RM5bil.

These include the development of the Sungai Rambai New Township, Sungai Rambai Enterprise Zone, Jasin Smart City in Malacca, Tanjung Agas Oil & Gas and Logistics Industrial Park in Pekan, Pahang and the re-development of Sungai Rambai old-town project.

We are also currently in the process of negotiating with the Negri Sembilan State Economic Development Corp in developing the Gemas New Township, and with the Kedah state government for the development of the Kedah Convention Centre in Sungai Petani, he said.

Muhammed also said the company had entered into a 70:30 joint venture with the Malacca government for a mixed development of higher institutions, with a GDV of RM1bil.

He added that Mace would be appearing as a joint partner to take up the construction part of the development.

It is our hope that through this agreement, both CDC and Mace can promote further our strengths in business and development and project management in the five development corridors, he added.

CDC has been established to complement the Government's effort in attracting and facilitating domestic and foreign investments into the economic development corridors. - Bernama

Bagi aku kalau yang perintah tu jujur & amanah..rakyat boleh dapat lebih dari itu...

Tengok sekarang pun, banyak perubahan yang dah berlaku kat Kedah ni..walaupun adanya propaganda 'pembangkang perintah, pembangunan terbantut!'...

Aku rasa convention centre di Sungai Petani kurang sesuai. Role SP sebagai destinasi MICE ni di ambik alih oleh Penang.

Tapi AS memang sangat2 memerlukan convention centre, banyak business travelers, bilik hotel pun banyak berbanding dengan SP (mid-end to budget), ada airport etc.

Legend has it that the King with Fangs is in hiding in Pulau Tiga. ALAN TEH LEAM SENG digs out a little history behind the story and discovers what the island has to offer.


HE became a fugitive in his own land. What a change of fate for before the fateful day, he was King of Kedah and all her territories.

His people’s patience broke, as his lust for blood grew by the day. According to the historical myth, Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa, the people rebelled against their ruler when he began attacking them to satisfy his craving for human blood. They drove him from his palace located at the foothills of Gunung Jerai, Kedah’s highest peak.

Legend has it that pre-Islamic Kedah was once ruled by Raja Ong Maha Perita Deria who started to crave for human blood when his cook had accidentally cut his finger while rushing to prepare his dinner. The cook’s blood was accidentally mixed in the dish.

The monarch, who was incidentally said to be the 5th King of Kedah, found the “tainted” meal to be exceptionally tasteful and decided to find out more about the additional savoury ingredient. After a lengthy interrogation, it was said that the terrified palace courtier finally revealed his mistake. Instead of showing his displeasure, the King then commanded that from that day onwards, his meals would have human blood as the main ingredient. Soon his lust for blood intensified and before long, the people, fearing for their own lives, rebelled by storming the palace.

The King, who by then had developed fangs, was said to have fled to an island in the middle of the Merbok River known as Pulau Tiga. He sought refuge there while trying to elude his pursuers. Today, the people refer to this vampire-like King as “Raja Bersiong” or King with Fangs.

White Crocodile

Pulau Tiga is easily accessible from the Semiling Tourist Jetty near a small town called Merbok. Taking a cruise of the Semiling River will be like taking a step back in time especially when you listen to your boatman telling you the story of Raja Bersiong.

Do remember to ask your boatman to make a detour to another island nearby called Pulau Tok Kunyit which is supposed to be the lair of a legendary white crocodile. Look into the depths of the murky water and if you are lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of this albino reptile swimming away!

Fish or Relax

Apart from these attractions located upstream, the Semeling River has more interesting places for tourists to visit down river. The Semiling floating fish farm complex is a place not to be missed. Managed by the local residents, the farm produces many highly prized seafood products like soft shell crabs, siakap and groupers.

Tourists are welcome to drop by and they can even rent fishing rods to try their hand at landing some fresh fish for dinner!

The best time to cast your line is when the tide is on its way up. It seems that the fish follow the tide upstream when they are busy foraging for food. According to the locals, it is during these times that the probability for the fish to take the bait is higher. However, do not lose heart if you arrive at the farm when the tide is on its way out. There are still many other things to do there.

Top on your list is just to simply do nothing at all. Just relax on one of the many comfortable chairs and let the gentle river current and cool breeze rock and caress you to sleep. Other than that, just stand at the edge of the lookout platform and watch the world go by.

The Semeling River estuary is home to a large variety of wildlife ranging from cute small-clawed otters to the majestic white-bellied sea eagles.

Crab Catching

Those who are not too keen on fishing can experience crab catching. Villagers who act as guides for this river adventure are more than willing to take visitors to their favourite crab catching spot located nearby. The preferred bait seems to be decomposed shark meat as the strong stench is supposed to attract the crustaceans better than any other bait. However, do not be disappointed if the net that you haul in is empty. Just look on the bright side, as this will give you another reason to come back here again.

The Semeling River Cruise usually takes about three hours to complete and the best time to embark on this unforgettable tour is around 5pm as you will get to witness the picturesque Semeling sunset on your way back to the tourist jetty.

The tourist jetty is a hive of activity in the evenings. People from surrounding areas such as Sungai Petani, Merbok and Kuala Muda make their way up here to enjoy a relaxing evening. The jetty is also a popular destination for anglers living in the vicinity.

Watch your step as you disembark as some like to sit by the steps to lure fish playing under the jetty!

Shopping and Makan Time

Many visitors visit the make shift stalls located along the busy Semeling- Sungai Petani main road after leaving the jetty area. There, they can buy a large selection of fresh marine produce including green mussels, shellfish, cockles, crabs and prawns.

The stalls are very popular among the locals and people living in surrounding areas.

They open for business from around three in the afternoon and if you arrive later than 7pm, there may be nothing left to choose from. Shoppers have the option of buying and taking them home to cook or to take their purchases to one of the many restaurants conveniently located across the road.

Just hand the items to the proprietor and do not worry if you do not know how to have them cooked, as the restaurant cooks know exactly what to do to bring out the best in the food. All you have to do is choose the best table and order a nice glass of icy cold “nira nipah”. This drink derived from the juice of the palm flower frond tastes sweet and will go well with your seafood dinner.

The restaurant’s speciality is steamed shellfish with garlic, chillies and lemon grass. Do not let the simple ingredients used deceive you, as the final result is an aromatic yet sweet sauce that truly compliments the freshness of the dish. Another cooking technique to sample green mussels cooked in spicy Thai sauce.

You will be surprised to learn that the dishes served do not even bear the slightest hint of muddy taste that so often accompany shellfish harvested from the river. The secret is that the restaurant’s chef painstakingly soaks the live invertebrates up to half an hour and changes the water up to five times during that duration. So do not fret if you are asked to take a short walk before dinner is served!

After the satisfying meal washed down with pure nira, many guests are tempted to visit the stalls again and hope that there are some more “goodies” left for them to pack home for another round of delicious Semiling seafood, which in my opinion, is likely to taste much better than what the fugitive King had desired more than a thousand years ago!

How To Get There

Those who drive can turn off at the Sungai Petani Utara Toll exit point of the North-South Expressway. Follow the road signs towards Semeling. Just look out for a road sign that says Galeri Hutan Paya Laut Merbok. The Semieing Tourist Jetty is located some 80m from the Semeling-Sungai Petani main road.

Over the past decade, with the opening of the Semeling Bridge, this road has become a major throughfare linking the smaller towns like Merbok, Tanjong Dawai and Semeling to the North-South Expressway. So, expect heavy vehicles and drive with care.

Things To Do

Nothing much to do at the tourist jetty as the Mangrove Forest Gallery has yet to open. The real action starts when the boat ride begins. Go upstream first towards Pulau Tiga and Pulau Tok Kunyit. Along the way, you will get a close up look at the Semiling Bridge. Legend has it that the fugitive King even built a home on the island. So, while you are there, keep your eyes peeled for a palace and a white crocodile.

Then, venture downstream. Along the way you will surely meet the local fishermen going about their work. They are very friendly. Wave to them and smile!

Stop by at the fish farm and try a spot of fishing and crab catching. Do not worry about bringing bait and accessories as everything is available there. Also, do not forget to look out for the local wildlife.

Once back on dry land, stop by at the stalls for some fresh seafood and get them cooked to your own liking at one of the restaurants across the road. Try out the thirst quenching nira too!

The heart of the circle is the academic core with five radial fingers representing the 3 faculties and the Great Hall complex. The circle as a unifying form signifies education within the global context.

Crossing through the lakes, the initial focus will be the Great Hall and administrative complex, which will stand majestically at the entrance of the campus. This central core is to facilitate student interaction between faculties, the cross fertilization of ideas and instantly creating a strong identity for the campus. The Great Hall is connected by a ring of walkways, connecting students within the campus to the other facilities. To the north of the Great Hall sits the Multimedia Library and Student Centre. Flanking to the right and left of the Multimedia Complex is the Medical Faculty and the Engineering + IT Faculty.

The campus planning is first and foremost oriented towards pedestrians, with walking and cycling as the predominant forms of movement on campus. The centralised Academic and Administrative core facilitates this. In addition, all faculties are within a 10 minute (800m) walking diameter. The student residencies are within a 15 minute (1000m) walking diameter from the Academic Core. Automobile access is located on the outer ring of the Academic Core to minimize automobile intrusion, and disability access will be provided throughout the campus.

SYARIKAT pemaju hartanah, Paramount Property Development Sdn Bhd (Paramount) memperuntukkan RM1 bilion bagi memajukan projek perumahan terbaru, Bukit Banyan yang menawarkan pelbagai pilihan kepada pembeli rumah kediaman di sekitar negeri utara.

Pengarah Urusannya, Datuk Ricque Liew berkata, projek Bukit Banyan mempunyai keluasan seluas 208 hektar terletak di Jalan Lencongan Timur, Amanjaya berhampiran Taman Ria Jaya, Sungai Petani, Kedah bakal menjadi kawasan perumahan separa mewah membabitkan pembinaan rumah mampu milik dengan reka bentuk moden dan menarik.

Menurutnya, 4,000 unit pelbagai jenis kediaman bakal dibina dan sebagai permulaan hanya 380 unit rumah teres dua tingkat dibina membabitkan fasa pertama yang sudah bermula sejak awal tahun ini dan dijangka dilancarkan pada April depan.

“Saya yakin Bukit Banyan bakal menjadi pilihan pembeli rumah kediaman bukan saja kerana kawasan persekitarannya yang menarik serta harganya berpatutan, sebaliknya reka bentuk rumah lebih moden dan hanya boleh ditemui di Kuala Lumpur saja.

“Sebelum ini, konsep rumah yang dibina di Bukit Banyan hanya terdapat di kawasan perumahan dimajukan syarikat kami di Selangor dan kini reka bentuk sama dibawa ke Sungai Petani dengan harga ditawarkan jauh lebih murah,” katanya ditemui di Bukit Banyan, Sungai Petani, Kedah.

Beliau berkata, harga bagi seunit rumah di Bukit Banyan adalah sekitar RM300,000 namun ia masih di bawah paras harga rumah mampu milik iaitu RM350,000 dan kawasan perumahan itu dikawal rapi oleh pengawal keselamatan 24 jam selain kemudahan prasarana lengkap.

3. Public transport sebelum ni ok. Tapi lepas Cityliner hentikan operasi ke kawasan2 tertentu dah teruk la. Dengaq kata Cityliner tunggu kelulusan SPAD untuk dapat dana RM400 juta yg kerajaan peruntukkan utk bas awam. Lepas dapat duit tu baru depa operasi macam dulu. La ni cuma ada bas dari SP-AS dan SP- Butterworth saja.

4. Tak dapat dinafikan SP n AS kurang pokok terutamanya di kawasan pesat membangun. baik juga tanam banyak pokok. Baru teduh :cheers:

masa balik cuti sem dari perlis ari tu masuk2 sp tudia awat bnyk sgt construction.tu yg search google tu.jumpa la thread ni.baru la tau North Avenue,Cmart smua.sakan sp la ni.

dalam masa beberapa bulan saja banyak kan construction kat SP. cepat betul berkembang

PUTRAJAYA: Lima sekolah dari Johor, Kedah (3), Terengganu (2), Pulau Pinang (2), serta masing-masing satu dari Pahang dan Negeri Sembilan, berada dalam kohort ketiga yang mendapat pengiktirafan sebagai Sekolah Berprestasi Tinggi (SBT) hari ini, menjadikan jumlahnya kini 66 sekolah.

Semua pengetua dan guru besar 14 sekolah berkenaan tampil menerima watikah pengiktirafan dan peruntukan dana khas di Auditorium Parcel E di sini, yang disampaikan Timbalan Perdana Menteri, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Beliau yang juga Menteri Pelajaran berkata, SBT bukan bertujuan mengiktiraf kecemerlangan sekolah semata-mata, tapi yang lebih penting ialah memastikan kecemerlangan itu dapat memberi impak positif kepada pencapaian pelajar.
"Menerusi usaha terkini kerajaan, saya jangka selepas fasa penilaian semula dan hala tuju sistem pendidikan negara dimuktamadkan, tanggungjawab kecemerlangan yang akan dipikul warga SBT akan menjadi lebih mencabar lagi," katanya ketika berucap pada majlis itu.

Beliau berkata, SBT dilaksanakan dalam usaha mengangkat kualiti sekolah yang terbaik dengan cara meningkatkan kualiti pencapaian institusi pendidikan menerusi peningkatan tahap autonomi dan akauntabiliti, di samping membenarkan ia melaksanakan inovasi dalam pengurusan masing-masing.

“Program itu juga bermatlamat untuk menghasilkan pelajar holistik yang cemerlang dengan menjadikan SBT sebagai tempat melatih murid cemerlang bertaraf antarabangsa di samping menjadi personaliti unggul dalam semua bidang,” katanya.

pada aku SP nih cam Jitra pada skala besar......pembangunan well-planned but skyscraper x menonjol.......mungkin SP dalam usia remaja sebuah bandar kot.....

i will be doing design thesis next semester, n part of the thesis need to be done this sem. And of course, i'm searching any potential project planned to be built in kedah, beloved state, in the near future, particularly in langkawi n AS. My interests are mostly related to tourism-based buildings....something like medical-tourism, health-tourism, sports tourism...if possible

These are my proposals lists:
1. resort-styled hospital/medical centre/healthcare facility, proposed in langkawi
2. boutique hotel, pantai chenang
3. kuala kedah integrated ferry terminal cum podium parking

so, any more suggestions??? any logical additions?? n plz no theme park n casino here...hahah

**n don't forget it must have some strong issues/reasons for each proposal

supermarket kechik ja... kalo buka pon wat kalut stesen bas ja, mampuih tak cukup parking, dgn org yg parking nak hantaq org naik bas lg...kalo kedai2 makan ok ja, convenient store seketoi..

^^ canggih no terminal bas kat sg petani nie.siap ada supermarket,shoplots n ruang makan lagi.pandai town planner korang plan semua nie. :)

kalo ikutkan biasa ja, design dia tetap memang nampak ada masalah, tak consider banyak benda, in terms of future expansion esp, parking provisions (for bus terminal + supermarket), sepatutnya memang tak cukup, camna bleh lps approval authority, ... Please Go Green :)

tapi pun terminal bas baru tu akan complement dengan train station EDT (antara yang terbesar dalam projek ni).

aku teringin nk tgok satu hari ni train ni akan jadi satu culture orang utara. ulang alik as-sp-butterworth-ipoh..

bkn org utara ja tp satu malaysia..aku brharap kerajaan ada plan utk buat penyeluruhan dalam sistem pengangkutan awam di malaysia ni terutama train/metro/tram..metro maybe ssah sbb masalah undang2 pemilikan tanah kt malaysia ni..tp tram kt kwsn bndr kn bagus..menyeluruhkn sistem tram..train pulak antara bndr dan pekan..

supermarket ni memang kecik saja.sesuai la dgn stesen bas kan..bukan shopping mall
bole la org beli apa2 yg patut nak makan dlm perjalanan..

maybe lepas ni orang AS pun keja Butterworth, Ipoh mcm org SP n Kulim keja kat sana dan ulang alik....

- stesen bus & tesi sp (news pun tak da)

If all the above projects completed and the relavant authoroties take steps to upgrade
Taman jubli perak, pantai merdeka, gunung jerai, lembah bujang akeology and various industri park kat sp, i think sp will become first township in kedah.
