View Full Version : Greece has the dirtiest two power stations in the Whole of the EU? Reaper-strain March 18th, 2008, 07:51 PM http://assets.panda.org/downloads/european_dirty_thirty_may_2007.pdf ?? savas March 18th, 2008, 08:21 PM Sad but no big surprise for me. A big surprise is that the 2 first places are followed by Germany taking the next 5 (!!!) places... sk March 18th, 2008, 08:48 PM uk is not that better....... neorion March 19th, 2008, 06:40 AM I wonder if this thread starter will be accused of being an 'anti-hellene, of bagging Greece' or does that just apply to some of us who are critical? Anyway, not good news. Hopefully they'll be pressured by EU directives (as has happened for dumps) to improve the situation or face severe fines and penalties. pilotos March 19th, 2008, 12:14 PM Thats old news guys.Anyway the old stations of DEH are being upgraded already, here is text taken from DEH site: Anyway, not good news. Hopefully they'll be pressured by EU directives (as has happened for dumps) to improve the situation or face severe fines and penalties. If EU is to put pressure on anyone that would rather be Germany and the UK that have loads of dirty stations, which emissions are more than double the emissions of a Greek station, plus the stations are being upgraded. Of course no one denies that there is a problem, but Greece as any other European country has increased energy needs, and while France i.e. hasn't got any dirty stations, they have loads of nuclear stations, which is a taboo for Greece, and most of us would rather see more aeolic and sun produced energy than nuclear, but energy as any other "material" are to be sold by companies that have as their goal to earn money, and renewable energy sources are not as cheap as lignite or nuclear power. Almopos March 19th, 2008, 12:36 PM Why was a seperate thread opened for this particular report?? We have an environmental issues thread: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=418798 Reaper-strain March 19th, 2008, 05:10 PM Yes, this should be in the environmental thread, by the I am glad to hear they are being refurbished, can anyone tell me what the out come of this is: http://www.ekathimerini.com/4dcgi/_w_articles_politics_100004_28/02/2008_93834 And also the stats for how Greece gets its energy, coal, solar, etc. |
