Ghelamco Poland plans to build the Warsaw Spire office tower between Towarowa and Wronia streets in the center of the Polish capital. The structure will be 220 meters high, including the spire. Designed by renowned architects Jaspers Eyers & Partners, the tower will have a soft, oval shape and the glass facade will form a subtle arch, giving the impression of wings at the top of the building.

The Warsaw Spire will have 50 floors holding 60,000 sq m of top-class office space, surrounded by a small park with a pond. The building will feature a high-quality finish and an underground garage for 1,500 cars. It will stand next to the Hilton Hotel on a plot of more than two hectares.

Ghelamco Poland plans to begin construction of the Warsaw Spire this year and complete it by the end of 2011.

Looks very interesting, though its a unusual design too,i think i like Lillium and Zlota 44 more, though it'll only add to Warsaw's skyline wich will be really impressive by 2012 (when all those new towers,-Lillium,Kulczyk,Zlota 44,Jewish community tower and this will be topped out.)
IMO Warszawa will be 3rd place in Europe in 2012 ,after Moscow and Paris and sharing the 3rd place with Frankfurt.

Well the design is quite innovative though many people on the polish forums dont really like it...the one thing that bugs me is there is no ground building its just a tower growing strait from the grass

to put into perspective this is the area the tower is going to be be built in...please note that this was done when we thought the tower would be only 180m to the roof...also behind the hilton you have the residential phase of platinum towers u/c 2x 22fl and a 167m office tower in the complex...A few more highrises are u/c and planned in the area but most are under 150m

Warsaw Spire gets go ahead

Jaspers Eyers & Partners

220m tall tower for Polish capital

Polish developers Ghelamco have had approval to build a 220m tall tower in the centre of the Polish capital. The tower named the Warsaw Spire is designed by Belgian architects, Jaspers Eyers & Partners. Oval in shape, the tower will sport a curvaceous look. A glass façade wraps itself around the tower almost like a cloak that flares out slightly from the tower at the peak. Down the centre of the towers front balconies protrude, breaking what would otherwise be a sheer shape. A large spire will sit at the top, giving it its name.

The tower will provided 60,000 sq m of office space, as well as a wide range of amenities including cafes, restaurants, an entire shop dedicated to wine for those liquid business lunches and of course shops. Ghelamco Poland plans to begin construction of the Warsaw Spire this year and complete it by the end of 2011.

Polish developers Ghelamco Poland have had plans to build a 220m tall skyscraper finally approved by the powers that be called the Warsaw Spire.

Originally to be the Art Park development the original proposal was refused for various reasons but with a few revisions to the plans the new project named the Warsaw Spire should be springing forth from the ground sometime this year.

Located in the centre of the Polish capital the tower is designed by renowned architects Jaspers Eyers & Partners, who are Belgian but can be forgiven for that seeing as the design of the tower is rather nice.

Oval in shape, the tower will sport a curvaceous look. A glass façade wraps itself around the tower almost like a cloak that flares out slightly from the tower at the peak. Down the centre of the towers front balconies protrude breaking what would otherwise be a sheer shape. At its top of course will sit a rather sizeable spire, hence its name.

The tower will provided 60,000 square m of top-class office space, as well as a wide range of amenities including cafes, restaurants, an entire shop dedicated to wine for those liquid business lunches and of course shops.

Outside the tower a small park with a pond will surround the tower giving ample space to go for a wander and relax in, greenery also features on the ground floor for those who dont want to walk all that far.

The building will also have an underground garage for 1,500 cars. Its location puts it next to many of the important financial institutions in the city and handy for visiting business men it's next door neighbour will be the Hilton Hotel, though other hotels are available for those who have slightly stingy bosses.

All being well the tower should be complete somewhere in 2011.

I hope it's kind of joke only and I propose to set this building somewhere in Asia, capital of Poland deserves much more than just corny architecture, especially near the downtown. I'm convinced classical or simple design would match just better in that area.

There are a lot of news about new towers in Warsaw, there is real skyscraper boom in Warsaw, and these are not only empty declarations, but real dates and permissions from city council. Next year will change many things Hines Tower [160m] starts, maybe Zlota44 [192m] will be resumed, propably also this ugly penis will start (but I still hope it won't). And remember it's "proposed skyscrapers" section.

This tower looks great, some of you guys are a getting a little too boxy-obsessed. I mean sure Warsaw has a certain understated boxy Euro style look, but this is still reasonably conservative, a curve here or there won't hurt to break things up a bit!

I think this will look fantastic, love the white accents and the glass looks quality.

What a vulgar confusion of architectural equilibrium. If one monstrosity in the neighborhood was not enough, here come two more delinquents to keep it in repulsive company. Sorry to sound implicitly dramatic, though I really am a fan of Warsaw’s skyline and feel this project will do the city no imaginable service or justice.

To each their own I guess, wake me from my Warsaw slumber when Zlota 44 once again ascends towards the sky.

From SSC

The Warsaw Spire is characterised by an attractive and harmonious architecture. Although all facades largely consist of glass, the building has an original identity thanks to its architecture. The Warsaw Spire reaches a height of 180 metres (220 metres including antennas) and is flanked by two separate office buildings, each 55 metres high. A green inner area connects these office buildings with the 160 metre high Chopin Tower, a residential tower.

Currently official Ghelamco website says it's 220 so we have to wait for more details. In media it's still 180 or 220.

Current stage is going to take 8-9 months and the beginning of construction is officially announced. Building is to be fully completed by the half of 2014.

this is one of the ugliest tower i've ever seen

Just for the record. It is not a tower. It is a hole in a ground, yet. We must wait

Yup. But the hole is getting bigger recently very fast, so maybe they will start soon/after winter.

the design is nice, but the top is bad imo. doesnt fit the rest of the tower at all. but maybe its just the angle of the render. warsaw is booming :banana2:

Well it is bad but we have some worse skyscrapers in Warsaw, they are like 10 years older though.

Let's see what will get built first: Warsaw Spire of Evolution tower in Moscow (they have about the same starting position and height)

This tower would look so much nicer if only 100 meters was added. It just seems stubby in my oppinion. Anyway, I'll keep my eye out for this thread.

There is barely any equipment, seems like nothing has happened on the site lately (frozen ground etc.) and mostly they work 6 days a week on big projects like this one. On even bigger projects they work 24/7. I know much smaller projects where they work at least 6 if not 7 days a week. If U/C, piling and foundation works should be ongoing. I think site excavation has not even finished yet.

This is third photo of the same session for some reason not posted here. Anyways, all equipment is there.

Weather forecasts say that temperature at night may be lower than -20 (in Celsius scale) near Warsaw:

Well, that sucks :dunno: Still, no foundation works ongoing so that means it's not under construction.

You can't change the status everytime You see that there's a few days break because of the whether for example. It's childish...

I don't change it ''everytime''. And it's not because of a break. Look at the photos, there's no piling, no foundation. There is still site prep going on. Last thing we want is false information here, there are too many projects in the U/C section nowadays based on rumors, hunches and false information. Or because people don't know the definition of U/C.

I'm not a pro, but it looks for me like a foundation works:

http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/2964/dsc00085pano.jpg

Anyway You can trust Polish users, and especially Ghelamco (http://www.ghelamco.be/projects/poland/offices/warsaw-spire.html) that this project will be continued.

It does indeed look like something.. It's confusing, because right now it looks like the stuff they did on january 12th is just prep work before the real construction starts (piling and stuff). Right now it seems they pulled off all equipment and they're gonna wait for a while to get either financing straight or wait for better wheather to start construction. :dunno: Anyway, I don't know what the issue is, the fact is there is nothing going on as of right now and if we keep threads like this in the construction section other forumers are going to complain and ask why the amazing project in ''their'' city is not in the construction section. We just want to be clear about a status and we treat every project in any city equally and we're not making any exceptions. Unless you come up with photos of today that clearly show construction activity on the site of course :)

I think it's best someone finds out what's going on because honestly, it's very unusual that a big project like this goes without any activity for a couple of days without any notice. I hope you understand. If not, then I'm sorry but I'm not going to argue about it anymore. The info here should be reliable and trustworthy.

So I took the liberty of translating some Polish stuff and I read that they need to dig way deeper. This only seems logical to me as it is going to be a pretty tall building. Tall buildings need big (deep) foundations. I read in the Polish section that the ground is hard as rock at the moment because of the temperature (frost). And just to clarify, digging is part of the site excavation and preparation, so this thread shouldn't have been in the construction section in the first place..

For more info please check the first post of this thread: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=747422

ehhh... Haven't you seen the picture I posted? All machinery is on site. One of the polish forumers reported today trucks are moving dirt out of the site.

Yeah stuffed away in the back. Im not going to argue about this, the work that's being done doesn't even count as construction work. It's prep work. Read the whole story I just posted, thanks. And btw, I just read and translated all posts in the local thread today and nothing has been reported about trucks moving dirt. Not that it matters, anyway.

This argument is becoming pointless, since You're not going to move this thread anyway. ;)
But You've provoked me. ;)
