Rotterdam has somewhat of a reputation of being all towers, modern buildings and shabby commieblocks,
however the districts surrounding the city centre are mostly pre-war. One of these is Kralingen. This was
actually an independent municipality until it was swallowed by Rotterdam in 1895.
01. The western part of Kralingen is post-war, it was lost during the 1940 bombardment. It now consists
mostly of low-cost rental homes. There are plans to restructure this part of the city. This is one of the nicer streets.

06. Further on to the east there are these nice avenues, this one is the Voorschoterlaan. This area was
built around 1900. The eastern part of Kralingen is one of the richest and most expensive parts of the city.

This is that road, the 's Gravenweg.

city who don't have a garden of their own but still want to grow their own vegetables. Nowadays they
have more of a recerational purpose.

constructed in the 1930's, partly by people unemployed during the crisis.

only building so close to the city centre on this side to have survived the 1940 bombing, so a lot of people
don't like that plan.
