NCAA games to cause congestion in downtown Tampa

NCAA Men's Basketball Regional First Round Games will cause congestion in downtown Tampa Friday.

TAMPA (Bay News 9) -- Approximately 18,000 people will be arriving to the St. Pete Times Forum for a pair of NCAA games which begin at 12:30 pm.

The second pair of games begins at 7:20 pm.

There will be traffic congestion in downtown Tampa from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and again from 5 p.m. until 7:30 pm.

Streets to avoid are Bayshore Blvd., Platt St./Channelside Dr., Ashley Dr. and Tampa St.

Drivers are recommended to use the Crosstown Expressway, as applicable.

In an effort to alleviate some of the downtown congestion, HART has extended hours for the downtown trolley - Green Line. The extended hours are as follows:

Friday, March 21 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.
Saturday, March 22 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
Sunday, March 23 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
