And untill 2011 when the Europe Tower in Sofia gets constructed, the tallest skyscraper in the Balkans will be the Twist Tower with 178m in Sarajevo.

NeoPolak October 16th, 2008, 02:11 AM Maybe the skyline isn't the best...but I love the design of that library (I think?) in Prishtina... very futuristic, almost a sci-fi structure

The threads title:
Best Skylines in Eastern Europe
Clearly it can not be compared with those among the very best, but still there is no reason for you to act like a jacka$$...
"Best skylines in EE" can be interpreted to include photos of cities/capitals with a variety in size as well... for a city its size (600 000) - Prishtinas "skyline" is not that bad (with many interesting projects coming up ;) )
If you wanted to have a thread with only the very best skylines in it: it should be named "Top 5 skylines in EE" or something like that..
mirza-sm October 16th, 2008, 02:18 AM ^^ Now when youve mentioned it, thats a good question.
What do you guys think are the TOP 5 EE SkylineS?
Marek.kvackaj October 16th, 2008, 03:22 AM TOP 5 modern EE SkyLines
by myself (in term of current skyline and how many new skys. projects popping up)
Moscow
Istanbul
Warsaw
now is getting tight
Kiev rang along with Bratislava
Riga along Vilnius
lower rang
Sarajevo and then is for me big unknown
NeoPolak October 16th, 2008, 04:32 AM Top 5 current skylines for me:
1. Warsaw (overall best)
2. Moscow (I only like Moscow City)
3. Istanbul (I don't like the "twin" scrapers and asiatic style)
4. Vilnius
5. Sarajevo
However, to me, Warsaw is not only the best in EE, but the most beautiful skyline in all Europe! Even after the supertalls are built in Moscow it will never look like this...

ZimasterX October 16th, 2008, 10:26 AM Oh God not top 5 again. Well, as this thread will soon be closed now, so I shall contribute to its demise.
1. Moscow (Moscow-city, more highrises, 100m+, than any other city in EE)
2. Warsaw
3. Istanbul
4. Kyiv/Vilnius
5. Sarajevo/Bratislava
SkaNdErBeG October 16th, 2008, 04:57 PM 1. Warsaw

4. Kyiv
5. Vilnius
tomi1975 October 16th, 2008, 06:14 PM 1.Moscow

3.Vilnius
4.Bratislava
5.Dnitropetrovsk
Triceratops October 16th, 2008, 06:21 PM For me #1 in EE is Warsaw 'cos Moscow's skyline is nothing without it's City!
Kiev on the second place.
Istanbul - third.
Others - let's just wait a bit and see, who knows, such cities as Sarajevo and Dnipropotrevsk have amazing prospects! :)

Read title of this thread and then ask the same question to yourself. It is pretty obvious why these pictures should be placed in another thread - 95% of them anyway. It would be very interesting to see other russian cities, you can create separate thread for them, I'm sure they deserve it.

Warsaw Financial Center can be divided into two sections. The lower part corresponds to an average height of surrounding low-rise residentials, while the upper to western center's high-rises.
- The tower's core is made up of two solids: the first, a cuboid and the second, two storys higher, three-side in projection and slightly bulged in the southern side.
- Every second pillar in the exterior of the plith part is a dummy. However, their aim is to strenghten the impression of the pedestal's solidity.
- The lobby's interior is designed in a rivival of late Art Deco style with predominating tint of African cherry, what evokes American skyscrapers' lobbies of the 1930's and 40's.
- The first story of the tower, which is in fact the eigth of the building, contains service areas for tenants.
- Warsaw Financial Center's design was partly inspired by Kohn Pedersen Fox's 333 Wacker Drive
Rondo 1 B
Architect: Skidmore, Owings&Merrill. Inc.
http://www.muratorplus.pl/images/RONDOOOO.jpg
http://pfl.neostrada.pl/IMG_0123.jpg
Rondo 1-B will house all vertical circulation within three transparent external towers, thus giving the office tower almost unlimited flexibility for space division; a similar idea was implemented in Deutsche Bank Place in Sydney

Because of its small plot, the building required a "top-down" construction method during the early stages of its construction in order not to damage the surrounding buildings.
- This was the first skyscraper in Warsaw erected using "top-down" technology, whose implementation was directed by a Polish company - PIA Piasecki S.A
For fire security reasons one of the requirements for the tower's approval was a helipad on the roof.
- Features a unique panoramic lift running at 2.5 meters per second inside a leaning glass shaft, which is tilted about 14 degrees.
- The tower's form is a futuristic composition of several different shapes.

ING Real Estate asked The Jerde Partnership to create a mixed-use project that would bring life back to the city center. Inspired by the historic parks that were saved from wartime destruction, Jerde organized Zlote Tarasy around an ensemble of terraces and a central plaza with an undulating glass roof that recalls tree canopies crowning the city's parks. The innovative roof simulates a draping cloth to translate the natural processes of gravity, wind and water into a complex, yet elegant, spatial surface above the plaza. The terraced retail and entertainment levels rise into upper-level office towers, while culminating below in a lively park built just below-grade, making it easily accessible from the adjacent Warszawa Centralna train station and existing pedestrian tunnels. To reconnect the urban fabric, Jerde designed Zlote Tarasy with a pedestrian network that links the train station with the historic city center, as well as additional entrances that restore the urban grid lost during the war. When it opened in February 2007, Zlote Tarasy attracted over 500,000 visitors in the first week.

Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (also known by the acronym KPF) is an international architectural design firm located in New York City, providing urban design and master planning for public authorities and private companies. The firm's designs can be seen in commercial skyscrapers such as the Shanghai World Financial Center. In 1990, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) awarded KPF with its Architectural Firm Award.
After several designs, the firm’s first major building was 333 Wacker Drive (Chicago, 1983), a 36-story green glass office tower whose sculptural curtain wall imitated the bending Chicago River along its triangular site. The structure exploited the sheer reflective mass of the curtain wall by minimizing individual windows through tinting gray green the vertical aluminum window mullions. Green marble and gray granite octagonal columns at the base level made a subtle reference to the Merchandise Mart’s octagonal towers across the river. Additional methods employed in reaction to its environment included beginning the office floors above the track level of the nearby elevated train, thus permitting a large four-floor masonry block base that better integrated the structure with neighboring buildings. The American Institute of Architects rewarded this design with their National Honors Award in 1984, validating KPF’s coming of age as a major player in skyscraper design. The prominence of this building's site, together with the deft handling of the design in response to context, make this building a continued top ranking favorite among Chicago public opinion polls.

Jünyus Brütüs October 18th, 2008, 01:28 PM Yes that's true, istanbul is not in eastern europe. It locates in southeast, but I believe that it'd be absurd to open up a new thread ''best skyline in southeast''. Will you compare Istanbul with Athens? :dunno: Here is a better place to nomanite.
True, It has some characteristics of EE/Balkans but sure it is more mediterranean... anyway Istanbul is the only city which has a skyline in Southeastern Europe so we should compare it with EE cities like Warsaw or Moscow instead of Athens or hmmm... Athens.

It's quite weird since Eastern Europe in this thread is a political term(former communist countries) and have nothing to do with geography or culture so Turkey on the Nato side during the cold war doesn't really fit here...

You know this is just matter of angle you take the picture from. It doesn't have anything to do with skyline. On the first picture you see a lot of commies and midrises which fill the picture and give you a dense feeling and the second picture is just random. So it's the photographer that is good in this case not the skyline.

Is it the tallest building in Warsaw? And when it is supposed to be build? Do you have renders?

Iluminat October 18th, 2008, 10:06 PM So you ignore this brutal skyline
It's not finished yet:ohno:
void0 October 18th, 2008, 10:10 PM That stalin era building still dominate the skyline.
golov October 18th, 2008, 10:13 PM I am forced to modify my ranking
1) Moscow
2) Istanbul
3) Warsaw
Messi October 18th, 2008, 11:11 PM 1) Moscow
2) Istanbul
3) Warsaw
4) Don't care
actually you didn't change anything
golov October 18th, 2008, 11:39 PM Good point
NeoPolak October 19th, 2008, 01:45 AM You guys are obsessed with your cluster. I admit that Moscow City is very modern and I like it very much, but it's just ONE CLUSTER! Why do Russians say that Moscow is better, with just one cluster??? Istanbul and Warsaw both have a far larger skyline than Moscow, because they have more than one cluster. So the ranking should be 1. Istanbul 2. Warsaw 3. Moscow...however, I personally like Warsaw more because of the style of architecture, but I can understand how someone would say Istanbul is #1. What I can't understand is how anyone could think Moscow is first...
You're right about one thing, there are a lot of commieblocks in Warsaw, but thats' because we were in the Communist Bloc and that's what was built back then. The modern skyline of Warsaw does not have any commieblocks, so that whole discussion is OT.
Now, please show me at least one picture from Moscow with a skyline as large as these and you might change my mind. After all, this is a thread for pictures, not speculation. Otherwise, stop spouting nonsense...

Messi October 19th, 2008, 01:54 AM What's bad with having one dense cluster instead of a scattered one? Mascow has a planned CBD wheras Istanbul and Warsaw grow naturally, that's the difference. Beside this Moscow's skyline is very young, I'm sure we'll see many new buildings added to the sklyine which will make it look much wider.
golov October 19th, 2008, 01:58 AM The planned CBD will dominate the skyline for sure, but there are buildings popping up all over the place

golov October 19th, 2008, 02:02 AM This complex, for example, is very far away from the CBD

golov October 19th, 2008, 02:07 AM Poles, one day you will realize that you just have no change to compete against the +10million capital of a 145 million country. Just accept that you have a great skyline in Warsaw (for sure) which will not be the best in Europe, but do not fool yourself
If it makes you feel any better, I don't think Moscow has a chance to compete with Beijing or Shanghai
Messi October 19th, 2008, 02:17 AM 1. Moscow

The rest may fight for the 5th place.
NeoPolak October 19th, 2008, 02:18 AM ^Great, but I thought this was about the modern skyline? If we add the Kulczyk Tower, Lilium, Hines, Jewish Community Tower, Platinum Towers, and many others that will be completed in 3-4 years then Warsaw and Istanbul are still first when talking about the size and density of the skyline.

Messi October 19th, 2008, 02:23 AM Are you aware of the projects in Moscow as well? I don't really get why you still fight..
Btw what do you mean by modern skyline? Who sent here pictures of historic skylines?
Gamma-Hamster October 19th, 2008, 02:23 AM I admit that Moscow City is very modern and I like it very much, but it's just ONE CLUSTER! Why do Russians say that Moscow is better, with just one cluster??? Istanbul and Warsaw both have a far larger skyline than Moscow,
Lol, whats this bullshit about only one cluster in Moscow? Spread out skylines only have advantage over dense clusters whe they are really large, like hundreds of towers of NY, or at least dozens of them. Claiming that your skyline is larger, when it only have 2 or 3 towers more is absolutely retarded.
100 or 50 scatered towers can form a better skyline than great cluster of 10 towers
12 scatered towers can not.
golov October 19th, 2008, 02:23 AM Don't forget that developers have been hit very hard by the crisis, chances are that many project in Moscow/Warsaw/everywhere will be put on hold for some time (if not completely canceled)
AdnanPD October 19th, 2008, 02:26 AM 1. Moscow
2. Istanbul
3. Warsaw
4. Vilnius
5. Sarajevo

golov October 19th, 2008, 02:43 AM Guys, don't forget to put Kiev in your top 5
1) Moscow

3) Warsaw
4) Kiev
5) to be decided

Indyk October 19th, 2008, 09:35 AM Seriously, whats up with the Poles constantly picking fights with others? :dunno:
There are thousands of Poles on this forum. One just told you that he likes Warsaw's skyline better than Moscow's and you came to this conclusion. :ohno:
ZimasterX October 19th, 2008, 12:11 PM At this point we have seen the same photos of Moscow and Warsaw's skyline reappear about 10 times in this thread.
Alterlee October 19th, 2008, 12:57 PM To me Warsaw and Moscow look pretty much the same.
Quicksilver October 19th, 2008, 01:04 PM I was not aware of Kiev having skyscrapers.
5 times or more than Vilnuis, Sarajevo, Riga and rest of cities after Moscow, Warsaw and Istanbul.

Why are you talking to NeoPolak in plural, i don't see any other Poles claiming Warsaw skyline's superiority over Moscow's... I definately think that Moscow has no match in this part of continent any more. Surely, Warsaw will grow and look awesome, but comparing it to Moscow in a longer run will become pointless.
