Moscow and Warsaw are way ahead of any other EE city.
Both cities are financial and business hubs in the region and they attract the bulk of the investments

very impressed with Moscow the quality, density, hight and diversity of buildings is all there. Keep up the good work.

Are we still talking about financial centers? If so, then what the hell has geographic positioning has to do with anything? Are we talking about Central Europe or Eastern Europe? I see each does as he likes...

Central Europe includes Germany, you know? Thus the financial center of CE is Frankfurt.
Btw, the real Eastern Europe, politically & geographically speaking is this...

^^ so Russia, Ukraine and Belarus are not in EE?

Cosmin
March 24th, 2008, 01:10 PM
Did I say they aren't in EE?! Strictly geographically speaking very small parts of Ukraine and even Belarus are in Central Europe, but since we need to abide by today's political borders we can consider Ukraine and Belarus in EE. Romania is about 50/50 borh in Central and Eastern Europe and adding other non-geographical factors one can conclude it belongs to CE. In the end it's more Central then Eastern. The European part of Russia is clearly in EE.

We should decide here on SSC if we go by the UN classification that doesn't mention Central Europe, only Western, Eastern, Southern and Northern, or by the one that considers a Central Europe, in which case Romania should be in Central Europe.

Old topic, I know... and I also know that for some stupid reason it sparks flame wars, so let's just leave at that. I doubt SSC will suddenly turn geographically correct.

Polacy zarabiają dwa razy więcej niż Litwini i Łotysze

Absolwentom szkół wyższych proponuje się na początek 3-4 tys. zł brutto
(fot. JupiterImages/EAST NEWS)

Polecamy:
» Kalkulator wynagrodzeń - policz swoją pensję

Chociaż pracodawcy narzekają, że brakuje im fachowców średniego szczebla, to płacą im zaledwie jedną czwartą pensji menedżera. Młodszy specjalista w Polsce, aby jeździć Toyotą, musi pracować 21 miesięcy, a starszy - 16.

(PAP)

Man, you either accept the UN version with Europe divided in 4 areas (W,E,N and S; without Central) or you go for 5 areas, and accept that Central Europe comprises of Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary and Romania.

Visegrįd Group (Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland) is just an alliance of 4 CE states, not CE itself.

For me there's no doubt that Frankfurt is financial centre of CE. Someone who says it's not must be insane. I think that Warszawa, Praha and Budapest are more or less on the same level. And as for Bratislava, well sorry, but this place is a joke for me.

Warszawa is well behind those two cities if I consider V4 + Austria.
It's too far and there aren't many companies or banks with headquarters for this region.
Even the village like Bratislava was able to reach more headquarters or financial services for this region than Warszawa. Dell, Lenovo, Hewlet-Packard and others.

so you know little about former Polish capital, since 70's its an UNESCO city and now the top touristic destination CE, EE.

paku
March 24th, 2008, 05:21 PM
I agree.
However Warsaw might be financial and business hub in Poland but definitely not in EE or CE region

When everything goes to hell, the only option is to go to step one, where it all started. This post of yours was a spark, and if you had admitted you were wrong, my compatriots wouldn't have turned this thread upside down.
So, from the beginning. Out of the cities you mentioned (Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Bratislava and so on) there is not a slightest doubt that Warsaw has the biggest financial market. Moreover, even combined, the stockmarkets of abovementioned cities are only par with WSE alone. Also, companies from Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Ukraine, Italy and others are listed on WSE and WSE is a second fastest growing stock exchange in Europe in terms of new listings, right after London Stock Exchange.
So, i will just assume that you didn't know all those facts i listed, you accept that Warsaw is a financial hub in the region, and lets move on.
When it comes to amount of big company HQ, true, Warsaw is lagging behind. Not only because Poland has some major cities competing with Warsaw for them, contrary to Austria, Hungary, Czech Rep and Slovakia, but also because of poor legistlation in that aspect.
So this is where we agree, Warsaw is not a business hub in the region.
All clear? Good.
Peace.

Yes ,Novorosiysk have one of the greatest naval base in Black sea.In 2003, President Putin signed a presidential decree setting up a naval base for the Black Sea Fleet in Novorossiisk. Russia has allocated 12.3 billion rubles (about $480 million) for the construction of the new base between 2007 and 2012. The construction of other facilities and infrastructure at the base, including units for coastal troops, aviation and logistics, will continue beyond 2012.

The city sprawls along the shore of the non-freezing Tsemess Bay, which has been recognised since antiquity as one of the superior bays of the Black Sea.

The commercial port of Novorossiysk, with the market capitalization of 1,110,000,000 $, serves Russian sea trade with regions of Asia, Middle East, Africa, Mediterranean, and South America. It is the busiest oil port in the Black Sea and the terminus of the pipeline from the Tengiz Field, developed by the Caspian Pipeline Consortium

-Yes, Warsaw stock market is biggest in region - but Poland has 38 mil. inhabitans, which is more than all countries mentioned above together
-Yes, Warsaw stock market might be second fastest growing in Europe, I don't know, but I'm not saing it's not true

Only I still don't know, how this fact influence other countries. Slovak stock market is only joke, but our companies are mostly listed in Wie, Prg and Bud, very few in Warsaw. I would gladly accept Warsaw is the financial hub of the region, if you explain to me why. Cze, Sk, H, Au have the same banks, insurance companies and financial institutions. However I believe there is one bank - MBank - also from Poland, but it's new on the market. Other three coutries belongs to the biggest investors in Slovakia and from Poland-nearly nothing. Our biggest companies also invest a lot into these countries, very few in Poland. Trade between our countries is also very strong - with Poland very low.
I can go on more but what's the point.
I just want to tell you one thing. I've never said one word about Warsaw skyline, compare to that, Bratislava is really joke.
But when it comes to economy, than compare to these countries, Poland economy is really joke and if you are trying tell me, Warsaw is the financial hub for us Then I must laugh.
I'm not talking about Bratislava now but compare to other capitals Warsaw is ten years behind in all economic terms - GDP/PP,number of HQ even passanger traffic on airports etc.Now I have to laugh...Looks like you know nothing about European Economy...Oh Well I think someone will explane it to you...It's just like someone tell you that...hm lets says "oh Berlin sucks so much" but he never had been to Berlin, and when he finally go there and then you'll ask him about Berlin...He's saying "oh yeah I was wrong, Berlin is really nice"...I hope you know what I mean tho..

No offence, but I didn't create that list. It say ''cracowonline.com''
I did have a look around, there are many nice places in Poland I just think Krakow is extremly overrated

Yes, of course it`s overrated, and our gov tells us lies about our average wages... like you suggested... etc... I expect your action when we will post data about our average wage that will be above 1000 euros per month, hopefully very soon... and of course the capital city of 38mln country with one of the largest stock exchanges in the region is less important than Praha or Budapest...

Foruntately millions of tourists can spot Krakow`s beauty... it seems that you can`t or don`t want... oh well

especially for you...

Krakow was announced by Orbitz, the leading US online travel company, one of the seven 2007's hottest vacation locations.

http://www.transatlantic.uj.edu.pl/main.php?a=news&news_id=7

The World's Best Squares

1. Rynek Glowny, Krakow, Poland

The largest square in Europe also happens to be the best. Rynek Glowny ("Grand Square") is so dynamic, it pulls you in from anywhere in the city. All roads in Krakow lead you here, and the closer you get, the livelier the streetlife becomes. There is so much going on in this square--at least twenty different attractions at any given time--that it makes our "Power of Ten" rule seem inadequate.

60 of the World's Great Places

Grand Square
Krakow, Poland
http://bi.gazeta.pl/im/6/3119/z3119416G.jpg

http://www.pps.org/info/gps/60places

According the ranking carried out by Travel+Leisure, a high-circulation monthly, in August 2006, Krakow is among the five European cities perceived as the best, together with Florence, Rome, Venice and Istanbul. In late 2006, a great American travel agency Orbitz proclaimed Krakow the most fashionable city of the year 2007. Earlier, in 2005, the company Project for Public Spaces proclaimed the Krakow Market Square the best square in the world, ranking it even over the St. Mark's Square in Venice.

http://www.krakow.pl/en/miasto/abc/ - it must be a lie, because it`s written on polish site...

Now show us Bratislava`s achievements...

Krakow has very international feel and english, german, italian or other languages are sometimes heard more often than polish...

But of course it`s all a lie because milan11 say so... it must be overrated...

All of that is only about Rynek - main square anyway
Putting Johannesburg on 23th place speaks for itself, go there and if you come back alive then we'll talk

How nice... anyway for you all Polish guys who post data (documented) and facts about their own country (about an average wage for example) are trolls (then you come, say that`s not true because it can`t be higher than in Slovakia etc, you don`t bring any proofs with you and show your frustrations "how can it be?")... I suggest you to read all your posts again and think twice who is troll here. :)

BTW:
MBM`s opinion about Krakow... call him troll now...
Well im not from Poland and I can say that Krakow is probably the most beautiful city on Earth. When we planned our trip i was expecting that Krakow will look like socialist jungle, with bad roads, low quality of life, and enormous pollution. When we arrived i asked twice if we are really in Poland, because Krakow was cleaner and better looking compared to München, London, Graz, Brno and even Vienna.

Such a large country as Russia is not having to determine itself as the part of Eastern Europe. We know, that Russians are more closer for the European than Asian culture.

___________________________________________________________________

Do you have an inferiority complex and why does everything has to be compared to Vienna, Milan and other Western European cities? Would it be shameful if Sofia was all built by Bulgarian architects? Sometimes it's truly sad to see how many E. Europeans are brainwashed and/or can't take pride in their own cultures.

Someone really stinks around here, eeew, perro - its you

I would really think for a 30 year old, you would be more mature. Time to get a girlfriend for the first time perhaps?

Golov, you should really not worry of how mature i am.Do not try to provoke me,or i will make you cry...
I said this before:You are so ridiculous in admiring the first two ever built skyscrapers in Moscow.Imagine how pathetic you are in the eyes of some other countries and cities comparable to Moscow.Losers...

You are so ridiculous in admiring the first two ever built skyscrapers in Moscow..Have you heard first 5 skyscrapers were built in Moscow more than 50 years ago?
They are called Stalin's sisters, while Moscow University was the tallest building in Europe for more than 20 years.
