This is not bad at all. Nice design and looks very suitable for The Waterfront :)

whats the point if its construction is going to take 5 years realistically? if it will ever be built?

Most probably it'll be cancelled once this developer has taken investors money for like 2 - 3 years and then gives refunds back in the end.

This is the strategy of small time developers in todays Dubai Market to make margins and simply sell the land on to another developer.

New kind of developing, its called "scam developing" and totally legal in the UAE.

Developer of this project is famous company with a few projects in Dubai, and they have esscrow accout !!!!

Esscrow account means your money is safe, does'nt mean the development will be built.

I put money on this development being cancelled by next year

why do you think so, that it will be canceled?

1) no infarstructure has even started in the waterfront.
2) no other residential development in the waterfront exists except this one.
3) following point 2 why would the first development be a 20 floor tower in the waterfront?

Way too early to be selling in the waterfront. Palm Jebel Ali and Deira plots have'nt even been handed over to developers yet.

This developer i bet has'nt even been handed the plot yet.

Seriously though: The design is modern but so-so. It would be the cladding who'd make the difference, but I'm suspicious of designs presented in night renders.
