A ported-over collection from various members taken from the original "Angola's Provinces and Smaller Cities" thread.

Here are some new photos from Angola´s provinces (they are mainly all taken in 2003 and 2004)...but what surprises me is that a lot remains intact or has been restored...more investment is also trickling inn, I have heard and read....well there are still no glitzy high-rises but the need and emphasis is and should be on other things now.

There are some images from the later half of 2007 also. Some sets are composed of 2004-2006 for the intro, many are from 2006 - 2007 and many were taken from blogs and recent visits, late 2007.

Yes, recent images of Lubango is difficult to find. Luanda for instance new photos are released from a number of sources perhaps weekly. For Lubango, I'd say within a 4-5 month radius a new set of images are released from a number of sources. Cabinda, being the most difficult to cover.

anyways peace out. Can you also post pictures of other cities in other countries alspo? Africa is not only Angolan. I would love to see more of Nigeria, and other countries cities. I hope I don't sound mean but I am angolan and would love to see what is also going on in other countries.

Senegal is beautiful and would like to seeemore of it. Even botswana inshort more other african cities. Angola is not the only country you know.........

^^ Yes, this is strictly a "Lubango" thread. About Kunji, sure, we'll see in the future.

angcammoc, there are plenty of galleries that I and others had opened representing other African cities and many members done a splendid job in contribution. :lol:

There is currently a large Dakar, Gaborone thread opened, as well as other cities being represented on this section with it's respective galleries.

I have seen all those but I also wanna see other cities apart from the capitqls in these african countries. Angola is not the only country that has other cities.
I wanna see the other cities in Senegal, Botswana, etc etc, Even Gabon. It is not only angola that has cities in africa, is it?

Post pictures of other cities in these countries also.
I would love to see pictures of Franceville in Gabon, Thies in senegal, and many more africa cities. I am Angolan and I think we also wanna see what id going on in other country's cities.:)

But if you want to see pictures from other African cities, besides the capitals, why not take the initiative yourself?

Creat those threads if you can find pictures to show. How about that?

The huge "new" tourist complex is completly rehabilitated and modernized and will open this month for public visitors. Modernization work took 3 years.

Lubango, 06/05 – O Complexo Turístico e Desportivo da "Nossa Senhora do Monte", em reabilitação desde 2005, vai ser entregue às autoridades, para ser reinaugurado a 31 deste mês, no âmbito dos 85 anos da cidade do Lubango.

A informação foi avançada hoje, terça-feira, à Angop pelo director do complexo, Fernando Moutinho, durante a segunda reunião ordinária do Conselho Municipal de Concertação Social do Lubango.

Fernando Moutinho disse que no complexo a antiga piscina olímpica foi transformada num lago artificial, reabilitaram-se os balneários públicos, passeios, bancadas, local de recreação e campos polivalentes para ténis, voleibol e andebol.

O director acrescentou que foram colocados igualmente no recinto lanchonetes que apenas devem servir refrescos e alimentos, uma biblioteca, um cyber-café e outros meios de recreação.

Angola: Businesspeople invest in hotels in Huíla province

Lubango, Angola, 5 May – Businesspeople from the province of Huíla are investing over US$100 million in the construction of hotels units and similar facilities, with a view to preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN-2010) scheduled to take place in Angola in 2010.

Speaking to Angolan news agency Angop in Lubango, the provincial director of hotels and tourism, Sérgio da Cunha Velho, said that hotels would be built in Lubango, Serra da Chela, Gunde One, work on which was already underway, as well as two similar facilities belonging to insurance company, Seguradora Angola Agora e Amanhã (AAA).

Cunha Velho said that once the hotels had been opened, with expected categories of three and four stars, beginning next year the province would have an extra 500 to 900 beds, which will considerably increasing the current accommodation capacity.

“We believe that these investments will be concluded in September/October 2009. We will then have the capacity to accommodate all the delegations that travel to Huíla province during the CAN,” he said.

According to Cunha Velho, the province’s existing hotels are also working on increasing their accommodation capacities, as well as improving their services with a view to meeting the demand of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2010.

Huíla province, which has 14 municipalities, 1,559 inhabitants and 79,022 square kilometres) has five hotels and an undetermined number of inns and hostels. Its total accommodation capacity currently stands at 400 rooms, with around 800 beds. (macauhub)

Matt a long ago you asked about an arena in Lubango (it is called the Tourada), the place is still there and is used for some events relacted to horses and bull selling stuff during the city's festivities. It is part of the Nossa Senhora do Monte complex, it is a quite big complex and i know that they are building a 5 stars fancy hotels on the mountains, I didnt manage to reach the construction site but I saw men and machinery going up and down the hill. Here you have some pics of the entrance to the site.

É obvio que Lubango é mais limpa que Luanda, mas não queres compar pela diferença de tamanho das duas cidades. E o mesmo se aplica a questão da criminalidade. Deixa-me te lembrar que a guerra não passou pela tua cidade, mas mesmo assim Luanda manteve o seu glamour, a sitios na cidade que são imbatíveis!
Ja agora deixa-me so dizer, que a degradação de Luanda foi potencializada pelas grandes massa de imigrantes vindos das provícias.
Luanda é MAIOR, foi e será!! Melhor agora que ta sendo reabilitada. :cheers:

Empresários da província da Huíla estão a investir 100 milhões de dólares na construção de unidades hoteleiras e similares, no quadro dos preparativos para o Campeonato Africano da Nações em Futebol (CAN-2010), a ter lugar em Angola em 2010.

Em declarações à agência noticiosa angolana Angop no Lubango, o director provincial da Hotelaria e Turismo, Sérgio da Cunha Velho, disse tratar-se dos hotéis Lubango, Serra da Chela, Gundo One, cujas obras estão em curso, bem como mais duas similares pertencentes à Seguradora Angola Agora e Amanhã (AAA).

Cunha Velho assegurou que com a entrada em funcionamento dos estabelecimentos hoteleiros, que deverão ter a categoria de três/quatro estrelas, a partir do próximo ano, a província poderá contar com mais 500 quartos e 900 camas, aumentando consideravelmente a capacidade de hospedagem existente. "Estamos em crer que estes investimentos terminem em Setembro/Outubro de 2009.
Aí teremos capacidade para acomodar todas as delegações que escalarem a província da Huíla por altura do CAN", referiu.

De acordo com Sérgio da Cunha Velho, as unidades hoteleiras existentes, a nível da região, estão igualmente a trabalhar para aumentar as respectivas capacidades de acomodação, além de melhorar os seus serviços, tendo em vista as exigências do Campeonato Africano da Nações em Futebol/2010.

Com 14 municípios, a província da Huíla (1559 mil habitantes e 79 022 quilómetros quadrados) conta com cinco hotéis e um número indeterminado de pensões e hospedarias. A sua oferta total de quartos ronda os 400, enquanto a disponibilidades de camas é de 800.

70%??? Are you sure? Maybe before the war...I don´t think so now, the vast majority seems to be composed of black Angolan....the others are just minority groups.

The monument is part of the Revolucao De Outubro square, I think that's a monument to the peace (if analyse it you'll notice that it resembles a flying dove). Great pics btw.

Lubango is a rather interesting city located in an interesting region of Angola, what it appears to be located on top of a plateau system.

What is the estimate of the "Mestico" population in Angola ? I read articles suggesting they are over represented by Angolan media. I am aware of the "Mestico" population in Lubango, also a percent of "Coloureds" from nearby Namibia migrated into the Lubango area.

here are so many chinees in the outher provinces like k-sul k-norte making children with black angolan woman in 5 year time the mulatto population wil grow from 2,0 to 5 procent i think

Angola needs to update on that demographic stuff in the next years to come because figures are really false and old that you get on the internet.

Do not forget that Angolans have a gigantic diaposra, more and more returning home to help rebuild the country.

Netherlands and Portugal has a significant Angolan minority community ?

My NYC area has a small percent, I believe they are mostly concentrated in the Newark area, living in the same neighborhoods with Latinos. That is what I read. Our largest Sub Saharan community by far is Nigerian.

I am sure many people in the world think that people sit on trees or live in holes, so when they come to see this thread they automatically see that there are is also fashion and modern lifestyle and buildings.

I mostly make the threads for Non-Angolan people, you guys know what your country has to offer but visitors to this section no a crab about Angola, I am afraid. Only that a loooong war rolled over the country and their normal Africa clichés...threads showing modern structures and modern African urban culture will expose them to things that the media NEVER EVER shows about Africa.

So these pics are leigitimate in here as well shedding light upon modern lifestyle trends of different regions of the country. ...and Lubango (among other Angolan cities) has something to show off.

A cidade do Lubango foi o palco escolhido pela selecção da Argentina para o seu último estágio antes da participação no Mundial da África do Sul, que começa a 11 de Junho. Segundo o encarregado de negócios da Embaixada da África do Sul em Angola, a selecção azul-celeste optou pela província da Huíla dado que a cidade de Joanesburgo, onde jogará na primeira fase, tem características semelhantes às do Lubango ao nível da altitude.

Outra razão é a qualidade das infra-estruturas já testadas durante o CAN. Messi e companhia vão ter à sua disposição o novo Estádio da Tundavala construído de raiz para o CAN, e ainda uma rede hoteleira renovada à altura das necessidades dos pupilos de Diego Armando Maradona.

O dia começou em Luanda, com os jogadores a concentrarem-se no aeroporto de Luanda, de onde partiria para o Lubango ,o avião fretado pela organização dos Casinos de Angola.

True what you are saying but my no.1 place in Angola is still Luanda, followed by Lobito, Lubango, Benguela and Huambo. I also like the deep South of the country.

Expo-Huíla promove parcerias entre empresas nacionais e estrangeiras

A Expo-Huíla-2010, a maior bolsa de negócios do Sul do país, com 150 empresas nacionais e de alguns países africanos, europeus, americanos e asiáticos, realizada entre 18 a 22 do corrente, no complexo turístico da Nossa Senhora do Monte, no Lubango, fechou negócios estimados em 2, 5 milhões de dólares americanos.

Os empresários locais e visitantes exibiram o potencial industrial, com evidência para as pequenas e grandes fábricas de transformação de produtos, material de construção civil, agricultura, pesca e outros bens. Constam ainda os sistemas de telecomunicações, mobiliários de escritórios, habitação, transportes e produtos bancários.

Pela primeira vez, os organizadores do evento se confrontaram com a falta de espaço para atender à elevada demanda de expositores não só das demais províncias, como do estrangeiro, nomeadamente da Itália, Portugal, Ghana, Namíbia, Zimbabwe, China e Alemanha.

A feira confirmou o crescimento acelerado registado nos últimos oito anos, no Parque Industrial da Huíla, com a montagem de novas fábricas de transformação de produtos diversos e ampliação das antigas, dando à província uma certa autonomia no abastecimento de bens aos consumidores.

O surgimento de novas unidades, ampliação da capacidade produtiva das antigas indústrias, apetrecho com equipamentos sofisticados e superação com conhecimentos técnicos dos operários custaram à classe empresarial huilana e estrangeira um valor estimado em mil milhões de dólares.

As recentes fábricas e armazéns levaram à extensão do espaço do parque industrial da cidade do Lubango para as áreas da comuna da Arimba, zona da Mukanka, nas proximidades do aeroporto homónimo. Algumas áreas dos municípios da Humpata, Chibia, Matala e Gambos albergam também fábricas.

Entre as unidades fabris novas e ampliadas, o destaque vai para a Emanha, Granisul, cervejeira Ngola, Laranjinha Agro-industrial, Nova Cerâmica, Lacticínios, Água da Chela, Emadel, Frigohuila, Moatril, Nova Cimor e produtoras de material de construção e mobiliário.

Os postos de empregos proporcionados pelo desenvolvimento industrial da serra da Chela, desde a conquista da paz em 2002, rondam os seis mil directos e indirectos a mais de trinta mil pessoas. A cifra de postos de trabalho vai aumentar logo que forem executados os projectos inviabilizados com a crise económica mundial.

Empenho dos empresários

O governador da província da Huíla, Isaac Maria dos Anjos, destacou, durante a abertura da feira, a capacidade e empenho dos empresários nas tarefas atinentes ao crescimento económico e social da região.
Sublinhou que a dedicação dos empresários deve ser maior para influenciar o governo a criar as melhores condições de se desenvolver a actividade económica, criar políticas para haver, cada vez mais, juros bonificados na concessão de créditos e outros apoios institucionais.

No dizer de Isaac Maria dos Anjos, o sector desempenha o seu valioso papel por contribuir no aumento da criação de empregos em diversas áreas. Por isso, defende mais trabalho para se ter um sector empresarial forte e criativo, que possa despertar os jovens a apostarem no mundo de negócios.

Já o presidente da promotora do evento, Associação Agro-pecuária Comercial e Industrial da Huíla (AAPCIL), António de Lemos, reconheceu a dedicação e investimentos efectuados pela classe empresarial local, e não só, por engrandecer o parque industrial e tornar ainda mais dinâmica do sector produtivo.

António de Lemos disse que a ocupação de todos espaços torna a Expo-Huíla num verdadeiro exemplo do que está a ser feito, do esforço dos empresários em superar as dificuldades para a materialização de projectos diversos.

O aumento de indústrias, afirmou, contemplou também vários municípios da província, razão que demonstra a vontade dos empreendedores em contribuir para o crescimento e desenvolvimento socioeconómico do país.

Para ele, é necessário facilitar a actividade dos empresários, reduzir o processo burocrático na constituição de empresas, deixar de encarar as produtoras como violadores da lei. “É preciso tratar as empresas como centros para solução de situações e desenvolver a economia da província”, disse.

Parcerias italianas

Os empresários italianos provenientes da província de Pescara, representados na Expo-Huíla com seis empresas dos ramos da construção civil, panificação, gastronomia e outras, manifestaram-se satisfeitos em estar presentes ao certame por efectuar novas parcerias de negócios com os confrades huilanos.

O chefe da caravana italiana, Maurício Gentil, disse ao Jornal de Economia & Finanças que a sua equipa considera a Huíla uma província promissora em negócios. “Os primeiros contactos que tivemos são interessantes para parcerias em várias áreas”, afirmou.
No dizer de Maurício Gentil, as empresas italianas que estiveram na Expo-Huíla foram as melhores seleccionadas para representar condignamente a Itália, tendo apresentado produtos que agradaram os consumidores destas paragens.

Os produtores visitantes exibiram no certame material de decoração, electrodomésticos, panificadoras, fertilizantes, alimentos diversos, equipamento tecnológico, diversas marcas de vinho e outros.
Aldo Di Clemente confirmou ao JE que contactos feitos vão fazer com que vários bens produzidos na Itália possam ser exportados, directamente para a província da Huíla e ser comercializados a preços acessíveis.

“A economia angolana regista um crescimento palpável e reconhecido por várias instituições europeias, facto que tem sido motivo de atracção aos investidores internacionais”, disse, para acrescentar que os italianos também estão atentos ao mercado angolano.

Espaço para feira

Para aumentar os espaços de exposição e haver maior mobilidade de equipamento, transportes e visitantes, a direcção da AAPCIL está a projectar a médio prazo, a construção de um novo edifício na zona do quilómetro 40, nos arredores da cidade do Lubango.
A construção de um novo edifício com maior capacidade para albergar as empresas interessadas em participar na Expo-Huíla constitui o grande desafio que a agremiação vai apostar.

António de Lemos garantiu que o governo da província da Huíla já cedeu um terreno vasto na localidade do quilómetro 40 para a construção do futuro edifício da Expo-Huíla. Informou que, além do edifício para exposição, estão a projectar a criação de serviços ligados a restaurantes, hotelaria, hospedarias e outros, num projecto que será executado a médio prazo.

Sector empresarial privado constrói hotéis no Lubango

Pelo menos 6,720 mil milhões de kwanzas foram investidos nos últimos cinco anos pelo sector empresarial privado nacional na construção de seis hotéis com categorias até cinco estrelas na cidade do Lubango.
Um relatório da Direcção de Hotelaria e Turismo, citado pela Angop, inclui nessa lista os hotéis Primor, Admar, Ngola e Chick-Chick, este ainda em fase de acabamento. O Serra da Chela e Palanca Lodge já estão em funcionamento. Estas unidades perfazem um total de 300 quartos.
O documento acrescenta que estão em construção cinco outras novas unidades hoteleiras, afectas à seguradora AAA e à Escola Nacional de Formação de Hotelaria e Turismo. Há também muitos pedidos à Direcção de Hotelaria para o licenciamento, incluindo “lodges”, apartamentos turísticos, restaurantes e similares, para exploração do turismo.
O Governo Provincial pretende ceder ao sector privado algumas zonas de maior referência turística, a Tundavala e a Cascata da Huíla, de forma a rentabilizar e desenvolver a economia da província da Huíla. Com os investimentos acabados e os que estão em execução, a província da Huíla vai contar, nos próximos anos, com uma rede hoteleira com pelo menos 2.200 quartos.

Huila to become country's main grain producer

Lubango - At least 80 farmers have been identified in Southern Huila province to participate in a project that aims at making the region one of the country's largest grain suppliers, in four years to come, the deputy president of the Angola Industrial Association (AIA) told Angop today.

Eliseu Gaspar told the press in Lubango that the farmers were located in Caluquembe adding that the first contracts for grain supply will be signed soon.

"We want to transform this great region of Huila in a potential cereals supplier in Angola, meeting the government investments in granaries", he said.

Huila province produces over 500,000 tons of cereals per year and the main producing regions are Matala, Caluquembe, Chicomba, Caconda and Chipindo.

A falta de verba está a condicionar o início das obras de construção de um novo autódromo para a prática do automobilismo, dizem revelações feitas na cidade do Lubango pelo presidente de direcção da Associação Provincial dos Desportos Motorizados da Huíla, Augusto Diogo.

Augusto Diogo disse que as empresas de construção civil que na altura se prontificaram em patrocinar a terraplanagem e asfaltagem do recinto onde será construído o novo autódromo, recusam-se a fazê-lo devido a crise financeira que os afectou. Mesmo assim, o dirigente do desporto motorizado nas terras altas da Chela, tem esperança em dias melhores para estas empresas e espera que as dificuldades financeiras que actualmente as afectam sejam ultrapassadas e então possam executar as obras como prometeram.

O número um do órgão reitor do desporto motorizado na Huíla garantiu que a Administração Municipal do Lubango cedeu uma parcela de terra nos arredores da cidade do Lubango para a construção do referido autódromo. "As condições do terreno estão criadas. Porém, não podemos dizer que teremos o autódromo a breve trecho. Contudo, vamos continuar a trabalhar e a insistir junto das empresas encarregues na empreitada no sentido de que tão logo a situação volte à normalidade tenhamos um autódromo construído para o desenvolvimento do desporto sobre rodas nesta região", adiantou.

Augusto Diogo aclarou que na altura a associação havia firmado compromisso para a terraplanagem e asfaltagem do recinto onde será construído o autódromo, com a empresa ADMAR, SRR, PlanaSul, bem como outras que trabalham na Huíla em termos de asfaltagem e terraplanagem. "Essas são as empresas que haviam se comprometido em dar o seu apoio. Porém, se essas empresas, cada uma delas, derem um pouco do seu apoio, acreditamos ser possível ter um autódromo. Mas com a crise, as empresas mostram-se cépticas porque fecharam-se para esperar que a situação normalize", disse.

Para o efeito, a construção de um autódromo, pista de motocross, expansão da modalidade, são dentre outros projectos os que constam do plano de acção da Associação Provincial do Desporto Motorizado da Huíla durante o quadriénio 2008-2012. Entretanto, a tradicional prova dos "200 kms da Huíla" em automobilismo, inseridas nos festejos da Nossa Senhora do Monte, que acontece no mês de Agosto de cada ano, é o maior evento do "roncar dos motores” que a associação local organiza actualmente, para além dos Grandes Prémios de karting.

Lubango – A cidade do Lubango, província da Huíla, conta desde sexta-feira com um nova unidade hoteleira de três estrelas, cujas obras de edificação orçaram nove milhões de dólares americanos.

Construído no centro da cidade, a unidade comporta sessenta quartos, duas suites, igual número de restaurantes, centro de conferência equipado com sistema de Internet, parque de estacionamento e bares.

A construção do empreendimento durou dois anos e vai gerar sessenta novos postos de emprego nas áreas de administração, restaurante e bar, quartos, comunicação e marketing.

Em declarações à imprensa, um dos responsáveis do hotel, Mário Camundo, disse que esse é “apenas” um dos vários empreendimentos que a sua empresa está a realizar na província da Huíla.

Salientou que a empresa conta inaugurar, ainda este ano, uma infra-estrutura semelhante na província do Namibe, com vista a expandir cada vez mais os serviços hoteleiros no país.

"Somos um grupo jovem no mercado, queremos com isto expandir os nossos serviços, por isso contamos com o apoio do governo local e das instituições bancárias existentes na província”, argumentou.

Por sua vez, a vice-governadora da Huíla para esfera técnica, Vitoria da Conceição, que inaugurou o empreendimento, enalteceu a iniciativa e apelou a outros empresários no sentido de realizarem iguais acções, visando o fomento da indústria do turismo na região.

A responsável recordou que o governo local tem apoiado iniciativas de jovens empreendedores a implementarem actividades no sector empresarial, por forma a elevarem o nível de desenvolvimento da província.

O sistema hoteleiro da província da Huíla conta com mais de dois mil e 600 quartos.

Angolan DJ Malvado Reopens Lubango's 'Diplomata' Disco

Lubango — The "Diplomata" Disco, the first in southern Huila province, is reopening Friday, fully restored and with a new management, in a night enlivened by DJ Malvado.

Speaking to Angop on Friday, the disco's manager, Diamantino Garção, said the house has been enlarged to almost the double of its previous size, to accommodate about 600 people, with a VIP room that did not exist.

Situated in the centre of Lubango, Huila capital city, "Diplomata" is a famous night spot in the province that opened in the 1970's, but closed down in 1997 for financial constraints.

Lubango has a growing list of Western-style well-equipped night spots. Among those are "Kopus Bar", "Crescente", "Pub In", "The King" and "Diplomata".

Hmmmh...difficult to say. but first it is Luanda ......swiftly followed by Lubango, Benguela, Huambo and Lobito. I also like the deep South of the country.

in short I like all of Angola:cheers::)... except Cabinda. (I don´t dislike it but it doesn´t fit in well with the rest of the country - at least in my humble opinion).

I beg your pardon...this hotel would have made it into a top European design magazine...urban hip style...typical of many hotels that one finds in Berlin, for example. The design is daring and anything but ordinary.:cheers:
