Well, I like this city actually. Angola is one of my main interests in the SSA too, overall. The city is largest southern most settlement, just south west from the city of Lubango. Namibe's location is on the coast and the northern beginnings of the Namib Desert. Some sources rank the city at 5th largest in Angola, others at #8. The city has character, the shore adds to it and so does it's architecture and aridness. Angola has a fine coastline in my opinion and a number of landscapes.

Excellent images, Matt! Superb photos too, well done to whoever took those images. Everything appears perfectly new and restored as if it was built yesterday!

The city it's much better from the last time i was there(April of 2007)
They are doing a great job down there. This is just to prove that investments are being done all over the country.

Wow, wonderful city! Although it's smaller, IMO I think they doing a better job at rehabilitating and rejuvenating the city compared to Luanda. In any case, it's good to see a big future for angola that is not limited only to Luanda.

Uma Universidade de Aeronáutica Civil, com capacidade para albergar 500 alunos, será erguida dentro de um ano na estrada nacional Namibe-Tômbwa.

O empreendimento, estimado em 45 milhões de dólares, será construído pela SEMIC construções civil, empreiteiro nacional que poderá agregar outros técnicos, e contará com uma estrutura composta por instalações modernas e adequadas para a prática do ensino e treino. Possuirá, ainda, laboratórios, salas de aula, biblioteca, alojamentos e demais serviços para garantir o melhor nível possível dos cursos.

Boavida Neto, governador da província do Namibe, ao intervir no acto de apresentação do projecto, começou por felicitar o grupo de trabalho por ter eleito a província do Namibe para acolher e ser pioneira desta realização.

“É uma realização sublime, que marcará certamente a história da aeronáutica a nível do nosso país e da nossa região. A universidade do ar constitui uma mais valia para aquilo que nós pensamos ser o caminho para a internacionalização do Namibe”, referiu o governante.

O arquitecto Mayembe, ao apresentar a maqueta do projecto, disse que a estrutura se irá desenvolver numa extensão de 50 mil metros quadrados, em piso único com excepção do edifício da reitoria e dos simuladores.

Damn, that TV video/documentary which must be of recent date is very good, Namibe looks so great in that...the beautiful markets, fortresses, beautifully painted old houses, the salt plantation...and not to forget the beautiful and charming Helka....I have never seen the city from such an angle.

If I were Angolan, I would return ...in a flash...why do you continue to be glued to USA while opportunities in your country are just limitless?

If Nigeria was only a quarter as good as SA, I would return! Angola is so full of opportunities and hope - despite many remaning problems.

Eu acho sim que devia se transformar em um Oasis angolano, que tal inspirarem-se em Phoenix, L.Vegas, Reno?, seria um Miami(angolano) ou quem sabe um Dubai no futuro, quem viu dubai nos anos 70 nem a reconhece hoje.
Mas nao esquecerem de preservar a arquitectura e cultura africana-angolana.

Thats what annoys me about SSA. Lack of public spaces. A simple park like that doesnt cost much to make but it improves the quality of life of the residents by having a nice place to sit during the day or in the evening.

Chik Chik Hotel is an Angolan chain which is buildiing various hotels across the country

I like the African elegance of its interior, the colours that match, the objects etc..and the attention given to detail.....looks a bit like a genuine Angolan "Novotel" professional chain concept.
