The tower had 21 floors when it was put on hold in 1997-2008. It recently restarted and now is at floors 24-25.

its good that tianjin is being developed, but i wish they wouldnt sacrifice design just for the sake of building a new tall..

It's not exactly "for the sake of building a new tall", more like "for the sake of getting rid of an ages old eyesore". It had been just sitting there for years, and was probably somewhat embarrassing to the local government.

I went by here today. There was very little activity going on, and what activity there was seemed to be dedicated to putting on that siding to cover it up. I'd imagine that it would be difficult to work in there, as there would be little ventilation. Sadly, I suspect they are just covering up an eyesore for the Olympics, and aren't really working on completing the building. Hope to be proven wrong, though.

Yes,sadly,everything is for Olympics at this moment.However,when this building was sold a few months ago,the auction announcement require that this project must be finished in 30 months,so i guess it will back to be under construction immediately after the Olympic Games

Side Note:The real estate corp which successfully bid at auction for the tianjin international trade centre is OOCL(Orient Overseas (International) Limited)

Also, the surrounding area around the tower has been beautified dramatically, with many old European buildings being restored to their full glory (the concert hall was actually reconstructed), this tower's construction site being cleaned up, and a nice park in the middle of the intersection.

when i was there late November 2008 it was in exactly same state as on he pictures from August.
It seems that it is on hold again...
It's kind of black humor to put the big "dynamic city" poster on a building that just couldn't get finished...

An update:

Went by the building last week, and it looks like they've taken off the "Dynamic Tianjin" wrap around the building that was sitting there for a year or so. Maybe they are looking to start construction again? I haven't been back since, so I'm not sure. Maybe today or tomorrow I'll try to take another look.

^^ It's not Tianjin, the building itself. Tianjin has the fastest growing economy among all China's province-level divisions.

To be honest, this looks like an ugly building anyway. I wish they would build it or top it out as it is. It wouldn't look great topped out as it is, but at least it would look okay if they put some really nice cladding on it.

I think that this tower in the future will have some structures problems. Has been On Hold in a long time.

What's strange is that, if you look at those pictures, the position of the crane seems to change pretty regularly, despite the fact that it doesn't appear that work is going on. That can't be from the wind, can it?

That's one of the largest real estates company in Singapore. They already operate quite a few buildings in China, including the Rafflescity malls. Definitely very good news for this project.

Yup, a very decent developer. AFAIK they always build their projects very fast. Finally they're building a supertall in China, unless they are revising it downwards.

Where is the crane?

There doesn't seem to be one, it seems that mostly they've done refurbishment of the existing structure so far (you can see that all of the steel is shinier) and the building of the front entrance (or sales office). Probably gonna be installed soon once they start going vertical again.
