Neuron is the "European UCAV technology demonstrator". This delta wing stealth Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV) project is the final phase of the French Dassault Aviation LOGIDUC 3-step stealth "combat drone" programme. Until June 2005, the UCAV nEUROn design was a full scale evolution of the twin-engine AVE-C Moyen Duc (2001) tactical UAV whose appearance was inspired by the stealth bomber Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit. The full scale replica unveiled at the Paris Air Show 2005 revealed the original design was revised to a "less ambitious" single-engine delta. The nEUROn development, originally planned by Dassault as "AVE Grand Duc", evolved to an European cooperation including Swedish Saab, Greek EAB, Swiss RUAG Aerospace, Spanish EADS CASA and Italian Alenia. As a "technology demonstrator", a reduced number of units will be produced to explore new operational concepts for a future generation of autonomous stealth fighter aircraft that will be produced in 2020 or 2025.

In 1995, Germany announced the IRIS-T development program, in collaboration with Greece, Italy, Norway, Sweden and Canada. Canada later dropped out.

Workshare arrangements for IRIS-T development are:

* Germany 46%
* Italy 19%
* Sweden 18%
* Greece 13%
* 4% split between Canada and Norway.

In 2003 Spain joined as a partner for procurement.

The Luftwaffe took first delivery of the missile on the 5th of December 2005.

Aegean University-Floating, movable desalination platform experiment

Greece builds world's first environment-friendly desalination platform

Greece has built the world's first autonomous, environment-friendly and floating desalination platform, the semi-official ANA news agency reported on Wednesday.

The first floating desalination platform in the world, widely used in the Aegean Sea, was built entirely based on Greek know-how, design and construction, the report said.

The wind generator produces the necessary energy being used to turn sea water into drinking water and it is built in such a way that can operate in the most adverse weather conditions, while the platform can be moved to different islands to supply them with drinking water, it added.

This undertaking has a major ecological dimension as well, because wind as an energy source reduces to zero any unfavorable environmental consequences.

In northern Europe, offshore wind farms are gaining ground with the windmill bases being cemented to the bottom of the shallow sea.

The floating wind farms, however, can be a solution in the Mediterranean, Japan or the United States where the sea is deep and the winds are very strong, it said.

Source: Xinhua

Note: It uses both solar and aeolian energy to desalinate.

Nanotechnology
-Advent (advanced energy technologies). Created from the well known ITE (institute of technology and research)-forth and most precisely from it's Rio branch.

The operation of polymer electrolyte (PEM) fuel cells at temperatures above 150 oC offers very significant advantages.
Among others, the tolerance of the catalyst is increased allowing the use of reformed hydrogen with high CO content, the kinetics of both electrodes is enhanced and the thermal management is easier comparing to the conventional PEM fuel cells.
One of the main activities of ADVENT TECHNOLOGIES S.A, is focused on the systematic development and production of polymer membranes that can be used as electrolytes for high temperature PEM fuel cells. The technology is based on polymer blends or pure proprietary polymers.

Didn't find any photo but you can see them at:
http://www.adventech.gr/images/hannover_banner.gif

-Nanothinx
Also created by ITE.

Nanothinx is one of the first enterprises in Europe that specializes in the production of novel carbon nanostructures. The production methods used by NanoThinX are based on the synthesis of carbon nanostructures with catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CCVD or CVD) of different carbon sources on substrates of metal oxides impregnated with metal catalysts.
Nanothinx can supply potential customers with high purity multi-wall and single-wall nanotubes in quantities ranging from milligrams to several hundreds of grams.
In addition to nanotubes, Nanothinx also offers R&D services on the process engineering of systems in which nanotubes and other nanomaterials are produced or employed. Representative research projects are:
1) Surface modification and tailoring of the chemical functionality of carbon nanotubes towards polymer matrix structures. Study of the nanotubes distribution and dispersion capability and determination of the nanocomposites tensile strength and nanotubes orientation. (In collaboration with FORTH/ICE-HT and the University of Patras.)
2) Development and characterization of CCVD nanostructured materials based on aluminium oxide and carbon.

The south Aegean islands, Crete as well as some of the country's highest mountains like Olympus, Parnassos and Taygetos are very rich in herbs and plants.

A special characteristic of the Greek vegetation, is the hard-leaf bush that often forms a thick, almost impenetrable barrier; over the summer it attracts bees, and of course gives itself away by releasing a very strong fragrance; anything from oregano, dittany and myrtle to sage, lavender and thyme.

Greece is also one of the largest Aluminum producers in Europe due to the large deposits of Bauxite. The industry and connected functions employ over 40.000 people.

The company that excavates and produces the primary materials is the renowned "Aluminum of Greece". The facilities include a private port and a village (Άσπρα σπίτια Βοιωτίας (http://www.aspra.gr/)) for the workers in the factory (the village is designed by the famous Greek architect and Master Planner Doxiadis)

The company exports most of its production.

(The company now belongs to the Mytilhnaios Group)

The head office of the company is situated in the Industrial Area of Kilkis in Northern Greece, while office locations and showrooms exist in Athens and Thessaloniki as well. Additionally, a newly established logistics centr e is also located in the area of Aspropyrgos in Athens.

KLEEMANN's activities concern both the manufacturing and trading of Complete Lift Systems. It is enlisted among the largest companies of this field in the European and international market (more than 14.000 installed systems or 4% of the world lift market.

In Greece, the company holds a leading position in the constantly developing lift market with a 73% market share of total units installed and 47,3% of total value.

International sales equal to 35% of the total turnover of the company in 2004. They are held in more than 50 countries, with England, USA, Germany, Belgium, Ireland, Yugoslavia, Turkey and Cyprus to be the main markets.

One of it's inovative products:

KLEEMANN EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT LIFT PIONEERING TECHNOLOGY

• Seismic sensor, which detects the primary (longitudinal) seismic waves up to 30 seconds before the actual development of the earthquake

• Upon activation of the seismic sensor, the controller is equipped with automation that notifies the passengers via audible and visual signals and moves the car to the next floor to evacuate them.

• Special armoring in vital parts of the lift, which ensures its operation during the actual manifestation of the earthquake. This way, the possibility of the passengers’ entrapment is minimized, as well as potential damages to the lift such as: loss of guide rails alignment, cabin and/or counterweight derailment, etc.

• Certification by the Dutch notified body LiftInstituut on the basis of the Lifts Directive 95/16/EC, EN 81-1/2 and on the basis of the American standard ASME A17.1 which defines the requirements for an earthquake resistant lift • Complete Technical File, which contains: the Examination Type Certificate, Risk Analysis and Additional Control Process.

http://www.bsbfashion.com/

BSB SA was founded by Vassilios & Sophia Bithara in 1980 as a manufacturing company for womens clothing. In 1997, BSB was created and included the activities of previous personal companies of carriers. Nowadays, the company occupies a leading position in the garment industry, 81 BSB shops and BSB points (franchise, corporate shops and shops in shop) and is headquartered in Athens. In parallel, it has also earned a large part of markets supplementary to that of garments, as during the last few years it operates successfully in the field of accessories and footwear, whereas it has also penetrated the market of underwear and swimsuits, thus creating a complete dress profile. The pioneering design of the three collections of the company, combined to the quality specifications it has set, as well as to its intense communication strategy, have rendered the BSB logo highly recognizable by the broad consumer population.

BSB activities are intense abroad too. It already has four stores in Cyprus, three in Lebanon, six in Saudi Arabia, five in Rumania (two in Bucharest, one in Timisoara, one in Kostanza, one in Lasi) and two in Istanbul and one in Cairo, Egypt and one in Tirana, Albania. Whereas the creation of ten more BSB sites has been already planned within a few years. In parallel, it exports to Austria, Armenia, Albania, Bulgaria, Germany, Ireland, FYROM, Turkey; and continues to grow.

The largest number of shops is under the franchising system. Each shop in order to bear the BSB logo, must fulfil all the necessary specifications, set forth by the company, that are related among other things, with the suitability of the contemplated geographic area of operation and the credentials of the prospective business partner.

BSB owns a parallel, alternative network, named “BSB points” which was also developed via the franchising method. Its specifications differentiate it from the main network of the company. It was launched in April 2003 and today numbers 9 shops in Greece and abroad.

Another broad network of 300 co-operating retail stores extends to all major towns of Greece. These shops are chosen with strict criteria, based on their position and the buying power of the prospective client.

This channel of distribution is also developing outside Greece, with the objective of the brand penetrating the foreign markets. BSB has already official representatives in Germany, Russia, Bulgaria, Armenia and Fyrom as well as in Turkey, where BSB operates with its subsidiary company Life Style Agent.

Among the mid-term objectives of the company are the further development of its distribution network in the countries of Central Europe and the European Union.

In the similar sector of mineral extraction, one of the very old industries with a large export activity is S&B Industrial Minerals.
http://www.s.andb.gr/en/images/logo.gif

The company is the European leader in many such products like Perlite.
Also for Bentonite the company has reserves in Greece (Milos), Bavaria, Bulgaria and Georgia making it the largest exporter of bentonite in the world.
The company controls the most significant bauxite reserves in Europe.

You can find a lot of details about the numerous applications of the above minerals in the company website: http://www.s.andb.gr/

Today it is official "metal industry day".

I continue with LARKO, one of the 5 largest ferronickel producers in the world.

http://www.larco.gr/images/el.menu-logo.gif

The largest steel producers of the world trust Larko's nickel since it is considered unique due to the fact it contains no carbon at all.

The company owns 4 mines and one factory.

Evia Island (5 open field mines, production of 1.500.000 tons - 1% nickel)

Eurodrip S.A. was founded in 1979 and is the first European company to become involved with drip irrigation. Its innovative method of incorporating drippers into the pipe results to water conservation and greater crop yield.

The company applied a revolutionary manufacturing method by which drippers made out of polyethylene (PE) were internally embodied directly in the pipeline during the extrusion process (with no internal attachments) forming a single piece of irrigation line. This ensures controlled water supply by pushing droplets through the exit holes. This procedure is the most advanced and cost effective in the industry.

Eurodrip S.A. is listed on the Athens Stock Exchange, and has a market presence in over 50 countries, with operating subsidiaries in Greece, USA, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Romania and Mexico. Eurodrip has a 60% market share in the Greek market and is a leading player in Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and fast growing in USA, Mexico and Romania.

The key says that it has an autonomy of 14 Hours and range 180km with 3 electro-optic/infrared sensors with real-time/live transmission via the Greek satellite Hellas-Sat. The article says that 4 of them are ready and other 12 will be produced soon. They'll probably be valuable during the summer period patrolling for fires. It also mentions the second phase of it's development, which has as an objective to arm the UAV giving to it attacking capabilities.

Another update with
Hellas Sat S.A.
The satellite itself is produced from EADS but it offers services and it's quite profitable (internet, satellite TV, Greek military etc). The operational centers are in Athens and Nicosia.

Hellas-Sat Consortium Limited (Hellas-Sat) is the owner and a wholesaler of capacity and services of the Greek "Hellas-Sat-2" satellite, an Astrium Eurostar E2000+, which was launched successfully on 13 May 2003 to the 39E orbital position in the Geostationary Satellite Orbit.
Hellas-Sat has developed a network of strategically-located teleport partners with DVB platforms, carrying over 100 television channels, and IP-based services through its two fixed beams over Europe, and two steerable beams over the Middle East and South Africa. It offers high-power, direct-to-home transmissions as well as occasional video feeds and Internet access services.

One of Hellas-Sat’s strategic partners is STN Satellite Telecommunications Network, which offers comprehensive television and/or radio channel distribution services. STN offers SDTV and/or HDTV play-out services, SDTV and/or HDTV turnaround services as well as encryption, subtitling, etc.STN was also behind the transmission of Euro1080-HD1 on Hellas-Sat-2, Europe’s first HDTV channel.

Vianex

The Company's history goes back to year 1924. It was an era of post-war hard times, but also an era of reconstruction. The pharmaceutical industry was slowly beginning to develop in Greece and the first imported trademark products (specialties) made their appearance.

Recognizing the coming rapid changes from the traditional in-store preparation of medicines by the pharmacists themselves, Dimitrios Giannakopoulos (the father of VIANEX main shareholders) set up in Athens a private company, for the distribution of pharmaceutical products.

The company rapidly grew and soon it started to import medicines from USA and Europe.

The first milestone of further development was the year 1961, when the PHARMAGIAN company was created in order to expand its commercial activities to the whole of Greece. PHARMAGIAN was for several years the representative of large international pharmaceutical companies, such as Janssen Pharmaceutical, Roussel and Alcon.

The second milestone was the year 1971, when the company was reconstituted as a societé anonyme (S.A.) and adopted its current trade name.

Since then VIANEX follows a course of rapid evolution and recognition, establishing strategic partnerships with leading international pharmaceutical companies.

The answer to your question is in the 6 pages you decided to skip instead of read. Greece lightning is also correct that prostitution is legal and should be considered in calculating the GDP. I am sure Holland and any other country with legal prostitution counts it when calculating the GDP. It makes no sense not to count it.

TO DREAM A NEW FORM IS TO GIVE BIRTH TO A NEW STATEMENT

Assumptions; efforts; drive into influential processes; lead to significant alterations. We should extend given borders, pull barriers down.

/2007/ Speiron is breaking new ground in the international olive oil market by presenting λ /lambda/.

We should exercise ourselves in differentiation, promote innovation. The form of a flask; unpretentious, straightforward; an innovative shape, although minimal. Effortless, the valuable liquid keeps its exquisite fragrances intact.

Two white circles, the upper one bigger; white as purity.

The Greek letter λ dominates the upper circle; on the lower circle, /lambda/ not only translates the letter-symbol, it also marks handmade perfection.

Distinctive, clear glass; for this is an olive oil like no other in its class.

Therefore, in order to preserve its qualities, Speiron suggests a short-term consuming period for λ /lambda/.

An one-of-its-kind flavour for an one-of-its-kind olive oil.

I was wondering why this logo was on every single truck, and i thought it was the sellers logo, but i yesterday realized that it is a company in Volos that produces every kind of truck trailers, even tank carriers for the army and firefighting vehicles and also produces MAN buses, obviously under a license.

Not made in greece but the man who built this jewlery empire is a greek man fron epirus, sotirios voulgaris.

Sotirios Voulgaris (Greek: Σωτήριος Βούλγαρης; Italian: Sotirio Bulgari) began his career as a jeweller in his home village Paramythia (Epirus, Greece), where his first store is still to be seen. In 1877 he left for Corfu and then Naples. In 1881 he finally moved to Rome, where in 1884 he founded his company and opened his second shop in via Sistina.

The current flagship store in via dei Condotti was opened in 1905 by Bulgari with the help of his two sons, Constantino (1889-1973) and Giorgio (1890-1966). The store quickly became a place where the world's rich and famous came for the unique, high quality jewelry designs combining Greek and Roman art.

For now they mostly export their goods. Now with the new law which makes planting photovoltaic panels easier and lets you sell power to the electricity company they will sell many pieces in Greek homes as well.

I hope so, Greece has an incredible amount of energy, much cleaner than oil or gas: the sun. Thanks God almost every Greek home has a thermal solar panel, now we just need more photovoltaic ones.

source: http://www.otenet.gr/portal/portal/i...doview=2028049

It is still a bit expensive, but the same thing was at the beginning with thermal solar panels. Let's hope people (especially rich people, at least at the beginning) understand photovoltaic panels are necessary, and that they could also bring money into our pockets.

It's quite expensive yes. But... in five years the cost will be dumped by selling power to the electricity company and not paying any bills. It's even better than buying a new car. The best investment I can say.... ;)

They do this in Australia now, you still pay electricity bills.
If it was set up so the consumer pays no monthly or quarterly bills, then electricity companies would block such initiatives from being established because they'd be loosing money.

^^

With the new law you can sell electricity to the company and if you cut the electricity supply how will you pay any bills? Don't forget that the company is PUBLIC, on top of that they are buying oil and gas to run their factories paying billions every year. So I think they wish people to produce their own electricity. Less electricity demand less oil in use. And all the extra power produced can be sold to other countries outside Greece.

So this is only good...

Well I don't know, doesn't make sense to me for an electricity company to start buying electricity from consumers, rather then selling it, how else will they make money?

Anyway...

I love ION. I love everything about them: their branding, their packaging and of course the taste...

Whenever I go to Greece I bring back Amigdalou bars (milk chocolate with almonds) for co-workers back in London. They go nuts for it (no pun intended). ION should really start exporting their products here, because the Brits who know it... love it!
