View Full Version : proposals on klang valley metropolitan zone transport system
project aliciel April 4th, 2008, 01:10 PM feel free to propose new LRT, APM, monorail, bus, etc etc in klang valley metropolitan zone.
to achieve Wawasan 2020, the klang valley metropolitan area which having more than 6 million of populations MUST have first world transit system, and also first world transit maintainance. Singapore which only have 4 million people having the expressway, railway, APM, bus, taxi system are much much more better than which klang valley metropolitan area have. so, i would like to give my proposals first. then you all discuss or giving a better proposals.
and LAST i hope, our government would able to hear it, and not going to waste 4.6 billion per white elephant and 38.5 billion for highway concessionaries for another 5 years after the 2005. at least, do something useful.
Commuter Rail and Trunk LRT

Municipal Railways Services:
==============================
Completed, but need extensions
==============================
1. Kuala Lumpur Monorail, from KL Sentral -> Tasik Perdana -> Jalan Parlimen -> Hentian Duta -> Kompleks Kerajaan (Court) -> Kuarters Kerajaan -> Kasipillay -> Titiwangsa. and new route from Chow Kit, to -> Tasik Titiwangsa -> National Library -> Kia Peng -> Cgkt. Thambi Dollah -> Pasar Pudu -> Jalan Cochrane -> Maluri -> Taman Kobena / Taman Pertama
==============================
Under Construction
==============================
2. Putrajaya Monorail, unknown reasons project stopped. Possible lack economic feasibility, need wait another 5 years untill Putrajaya fully developed. Putrajaya is well planned with lands reserved for monorails.
==============================
My Proposals on APM
==============================
APM is Automated People Mover, Low Capacity Rail Transport which modelled after Singaporean LRT systems in Bukit Panjang, Sengkang, and Punggol.
APM trains can use those trains in 100+ people capacity.
3. Kepong, Jinjang and Segambut APM
4. Cheras APM
5. Ampang and Pandan APM
==============================
My Proposals on MCR
==============================
MCR, is Medium Capacity Rail Transport which transports people in small region but the traffic is heavy. MCT trains can use those trains in 200+ people capacity.
6. Shah Alam Monorail
===========================================
My Proposals on Light Metro (not confused with LRT)
===========================================
Light Metro Service, in between MCR and LRT which transport people in a township which lacking LRT and commuter train service, but the traffics are medium to heavy. LM trains can use those trains more than 400 people capacity.
7. Klang Light Metro
8. Kajang and Bangi Light Metro
9. Seremban and Senawang Light Metro
10. Selayang and Gombak Light Metro
===========================================
i estimate the cost of my proposal could more than 50 billion, economic
feasibility not studied, i just propose the routes only.
*P.S. The Klang Valley Metropolitan Area in title means those areas under jurisdiction of
1. DBKL (Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur)
2. MPS, Selangor (Majlis Perbandaran Selayang)
3. MPAJ (Majlis Perbandaran Ampang Jaya)
4. MPKj (Majlis Perbandaran Kajang)
5. MDHL (Majlis Daerah Hulu Langat)
6. MPS, NS (Majlis Perbandaran Seremban)
7. MPN (Majlis Perbandaran Nilai)
8. MPSp (Majlis Perbandaran Sepang)
9. Perbadanan Putrajaya
10. MBPJ (Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya)
11. MBSA (Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam)
12. MPSJ (Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya)
13. MPK (Majlis Perbandaran Klang)

let's compare with this...

patchay April 5th, 2008, 06:46 AM superb idea
all lines seem to be profitable
i like the municipal rail idea just like Singapore
some suggestions:
can you put KL Monorail on the map as well ???
(and exclude it from the municipal rail since there're serving kl city hot spots and rail quite a distance)
- extend the KL Monorail
Tun Sambanthan - inside KL Sentral - Lake Gardens OR Midvalley
- Kota Damansara - Sri Kembangan line
put a station in UPM since UKM has ktm and connect it to Putrajaya Sentral and to Cyberjaya (alot of pj folks work in cyberjaya) - but this line would have extremely high volume to cope with
- Selangor Coastal integrated with Kuala Selangor and Tanjung Malim-Seremban ktm under one DARK BLUE line (no point to split ktm to a few lines)
- Puchong Selatan - Petaling line seems a bit short
extend from Seksyen 17 to Bukit Kiara - Mont'Kiara - Sri Hartamas - Segambut Dalam areas
- add more stations to Green Lope in Kepong - Jinjang areas
- there is also Sunway Monorail under municipal rail
- Klang - Shah Alam corridor
Bandar Bukit Tinggi - Bandar Botanic - Kota Kemuning - industrial Shah Alam - Shah Alam downtown - Giant Shah Alam - Bukit Jelutong areas served by a circular lope Shah Alam Monorail connect with Shah Alam KTM or Subang Jaya ktm/lrt
tomkat April 5th, 2008, 11:03 AM Puchong Line in the second map looks better.
But I like the idea of the East Ring Line (Ampang - Setapak Line). But I doubt the feasibility to extend the current line further from its Ampang Station. Lots of demolition need to be done.
Skyprince April 6th, 2008, 02:58 PM agree with patchay, Shah Alam as a city of half a Million people needs an inner loop LRT or subway linking all important Sections plus UiTM .
allurban April 7th, 2008, 10:08 AM Good work @project alicel :banana:
It certainly is a huge improvement on the Selangor and DBKL infrastructure plans :bash:
I think that many people agree with the idea of a KL-Seri Petaling-PJ-Damansara-Kepong-Sentul loop, and you have thrown in the Subang stretch as well.
I would prefer the loop to travel through PJ rather than Subang and Damansara but your suggestion is also a good one.
As for the extension of the Kelana Jaya lrt line to Petaling Jaya (following the NPE alignment), that is also an interesting idea. It could solve the issue of LRT traveling through SS14 but still provide the link between Subang and Sunway. At the same time, would we be able to find space in the current design of the NPE?
As for the extension of the Ampang line, as Tomkat pointed out it would be tough to make this change...but it is possible if the line is elevated from the area of the railway depot. There would have to be many buildings taken down but it is possible.
Sadly, I dont think there is enough of a vision for public transportation to allow this to happen.
Overall tho...I like your proposals and I like the way you think. Good to have you around.
Cheers, m
lohxy January 4th, 2010, 12:21 PM KL doesn't has a fixed plan for the rail transport...
daeng_jal January 5th, 2010, 03:09 PM like the idea, especially the line parallel to LDP, it will likely enjoy huge ridership..
but the gov need to reduce oil subsidies(posibly get rid off) and subsidised public transport..
like me commuting 14km with 1.3 wira, the fuel cost in RM2 one way(capacity 5 people), that is the same price as rapidKl busses fare for 1 person... not to mention motorcycle use 1/10 0f what i used..(and never got stuck in trafic)
one offer confortable siting,no waiting..the other long standing,max waiting..but both also got stuck in trafic..
so after years of using public transport, i just give up and drive lol..\
its a lot better to make effort to make motorcyclist jurney more safer,thus converting most car user to motorcycle user..
peromyvi January 5th, 2010, 03:53 PM where is the titiwangsa station? by the way putra and pwtc are not linked and they are currently pretty far apart.
In the near future we will hv the 3 ITT at BTS gombak and sungai buloh
dengilo January 5th, 2010, 05:10 PM The east ring line has got potential!Anything along the LDP will be good,Since those folks at sunway is not served by the preposed extension to putra heights it would be agood alternatif since the present kelana jaya is right next to the LDP anyway.
lohxy January 6th, 2010, 10:33 AM The kota damansara line extend to mines?
I will have two choices to go mines.
project aliciel January 7th, 2010, 11:43 AM KL doesn't has a fixed plan for the rail transport...
there are no fixed plan for rail transport for any metropolitan region all around the world, but there are masterplans, KL have it, but in different "versions". this is caused by lack of public consultation (one of the main issue caused the failure of LRT systems in KL in early stage), lack of conference / dialogue between local councils (MPAJ, MPSelayang, MPKj, MBPJ, MPSJ, DBKL, MBSA, MPK, and may include MPSeremban), between departments, between ministries, and between... whatever. or maybe this is the way of government doing things, kicking off their own responsbility to another department and from another department and to another. I wonder.
There are much more important proposals, that much more important for lrt line extension.
The main issue is, are they READY for massive LRT line extension and building new lines.
1. All stations MUST park and ride friendly. Just make the mass transit station parking FREE, and add bicycle parking, to promote the rural residents to take a bicycle to nearby public transport station, as part of our effort for carbon reduction. But with bicycle parking, without a road that bicycle friendly, it's useless. Roads in residential parks (Taman whatever) should made bicycle friendly.
2. Propose our public transport system (RapidKL owned) use common ticketing system. Force private bus operators (especially Metrobus and SJBus) to adopt electronic payment system - Touchn'Go or shut them down. Singapore got two bus operators but all of the bus in Singapore can use EZLink. Singapore is a metropolitan region with 5 million residents but KL is 7 million residents. KL public transport system is so *toot* inconvenient, and keeps people "lompat" to Singapore. And from view of politics, there are something government must use FORCE and not toleration. too much toleration will do nothing but only keep dreaming.
3. To know how big of Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan Region is, and plan a masterplan that covers almost the Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan Region, the masterplan that intermunicipalities. I suggest conference between (DBKL, MPSelayang, MPAJ, MPKajang, MPKlang, MBPJ, MBSA, MPNilai, MP Seremban)
4. That is not a problem if a city, a great metropolitan with world class status like KL have more than one bus operator. Competition motivates. Monopolization of single bus operator will keep the operator slacking because of the profit is assured. Even there can be tens or hundreds of operators, be sure they are all Touch n'Go compatible.
Next will be about ETS system, I studying in Kampar now, need to go back to KL every week or twice a month, and i found KTMB is not convenient...
1. Still bicycle parking area. Maybe you can see me as selfish person because I do not own a car, but only a bicycle. Most UTAR students rides bicycle to school, to eat, to...
2. From Ipoh Medan Kidd to Ipoh Railway Station is inconvenient. Although it is not too far away, but the pedestrian path is dangerous, and not covered by canopy roof. It can be very inconvenient in evening and when raining. I propose to extend the Medan Kidd or build a better pedestrian passage from Medan Kidd to Ipoh Railway Station.
3. Residents in Malim Nawar and Banir need train service to Ipoh.
4. Residents in Ulu Yam need train service to Kuala Lumpur
5. I wonder the Batu Gajah station is in Batu Gajah or not... four walls with a roof are rare around the station.
At last, no need listen to me.
I'm just a SC4 hardcore gamer.
Cheers.:tongue:
lohxy January 8th, 2010, 04:34 PM KL is big and more DENSE than SG. It's sad that Touch n'Go is five years earlier than SG but they didn't introduce new services that can used by this card.
daeng_jal January 9th, 2010, 06:33 AM Sg is build using a masterlan, kl was build with copy paste method
Sg people understand the important of development, Klites even object public tarnsport in their neigboorhood
anyway about the eastern line, it cn be solve using BET, just get the bus from ampang station,get into DUKE , stop at setiwngsa putra station and travel to sentul KTM and STAR sentul east station. but need to construct ramp from DUKE to jalan sentul pusing the rounabout at sentul bolevard shoplot and get back to ampang.
for the LDP, paksa the conversion of the centre lane into BRT line..sure success punyer, saper taknak jam naik bas, saper nak naik kete pegiler duduk dalam jam tu....
the mines/serdang to UPM and Putrajya/cyberjaya, can use BET, the road is quiet pack, so let the bus run inside UPM
the future subang airport line,no need EDT, hong KOng disneyland line only operated with one track...it a short commute from future subang integrated terminal to the airport.
for subang,shah alam, klang, kajang, MCL tu boleh but mcm SG.. just use chepo melaka, sunway like looping monorail. tu state gov pon boleh buat..(i mean now) no need for klang valley blueprint ker, transport council ke, we malaysian dont know how to communicate and cooperate..the waiting is killing me...just make sure the MCL is profitable on its own and ask private developer to build and operate it...
let use NYC model, build profitable line 1st, coordinate latter.....we are not singaporean! so no need to behave like one.
KTM coastal bypass line from kuala selangor need to extend to PD and even melaka. to reduce congestion on the main line as well serve the poor coastal people with no public transport at all, even holiday maker no need to drive for the weekend holidays.
for melaka as the EDT is gonna stop at tampin and no plan to bring it to melaka, make BET, with limited station like stop from melaka to tampin...
ipoh mayor,go to putrajaya and see WTT, and build it in IPOH!!!.. train,buses and taxi under one roof.senang.
JB no need LRT, go build BRT.
malaysian like expensive thing ler, go buat lawatan sambil belajar to Curitiba brazil, and learn how to make cheap things that work.
TWK90 January 9th, 2010, 06:50 AM Sunway like looping monorail will not work in Klang because Klang population is larger than Melaka and the fact that Klang is increasingly populated as it is within Klang Valley for those who work or study in PJ/KL.
I think something like KL Monorail or Kitakyushu monorail might be good for Klang.
lohxy January 9th, 2010, 07:10 AM Kl monorail extend from Tun sambatan to Klang is best choice

that wont be called monorail ared.... over capacity giler...

erm.....
don't know if the train is replace by 8-cars can solve he problem or not.
TWK90 January 9th, 2010, 11:40 AM Monorail to Klang, wouldn't it be too far for a monorail line?

lohxy January 10th, 2010, 02:19 AM This pic is great!
tunomura January 10th, 2010, 05:05 AM Wah..thanks for your map :applause:..very easy to understand and I can go anywhere within Klang valley..
The problem is too many stops/stations and each station located in short distance.
Anyhow, gud job, keep it up! You should be hire as one of committee of SPAD.
kenni-c January 10th, 2010, 05:08 AM KL is big and more DENSE than SG. It's sad that Touch n'Go is five years earlier than SG but they didn't introduce new services that can used by this card.
KL or in this case, Klang Valley is certainly bigger than the island of Singapore but I don't get why it is DENSER than the republic. Look at the numbers of Singaporeans living in HDB flats compared to KLites living in terrace houses. Doesn't make sense.
allurban January 11th, 2010, 09:45 AM KL is big and more DENSE than SG. It's sad that Touch n'Go is five years earlier than SG but they didn't introduce new services that can used by this card.TnG has started introducing more optiosn for payment since last year. You can now use TnG to pay at many restaurants in the Klang Valley including Burger King and A & W and Station One 'kopitiam'
The reason why this did not happen earlier is because Bank Negara put restrictions on how Touch N Go could be used.
First phase was for transport-related usage only...tolls, public transport and car parks as well as the amusement park at Taman Desa.
Second phase is for use in restaurants and cafes as well as 7-11
The reason why Phase 2 was delayed is pretty simple...because the use of TnG is very low even for public transport & tolls...so there was little demand for expansion.
But things are changing now and TnG use is expanding. RapidKL will be rolling out a new integrated payment system in mid 2010 and RapidPg will also roll out TnG around the same time. As the infrastructure and availability grows, the usage will spread and demand & supply will increase.
Cheers, m

Have fun! :tongue4:Imagine we could have such a network in the Klang Valley! Even if it is BRT it would be amazing.
Frankly, it's a beautiful map, an improvement in design. You are welcome to share your design ideas with transitmy.org/design anytime.
Just want to point out that perhaps Jalan Maarof and Jalan Telawi should be reversed? Unless you mean for the line to actually follow Jalan Telawi then go back to Jalan Maarof?
Cheers, m
allurban January 11th, 2010, 09:51 AM or replace it with mrtMRT to Klang is a tough question...the distance is too far for a reasonable MRT but at the same time, Klang is dense enough to have it's own MRT service.
Methinks that the easy way is to extend the LRT from Kelana Jaya to Shah Alam then Klang, while the better way is to build a line for Klang first, then extend east to Shah Alam.
We can do a lot with the KTM Komuter too, if we had enough trains.
Cheers, m
TWK90 January 11th, 2010, 01:32 PM MRT to Klang sounds too far and KTM Komuter line already serves KL to Klang, and there is more improvements can be done on KTM alone, longer and more EMUs...
However, i think maybe Klang can have its own monorail line, maybe if such monorail line exists, people from KL can travel to Klang using KTM Komuter, then change to monorail for travel within Klang itself.
patchay January 11th, 2010, 04:52 PM frankly, i wish we had aliciel and allurban as Transport Ministers....
tunomura January 11th, 2010, 11:37 PM ^^please don't..we need strong public transportation activist/NGO that can fight for us..politic is too dirty..with introduction of SPAD, hopefully public transportation organization will less politiking and more public oriented..:ohno:
daeng_jal January 12th, 2010, 02:17 AM Sunway like looping monorail will not work in Klang because Klang population is larger than Melaka and the fact that Klang is increasingly populated as it is within Klang Valley for those who work or study in PJ/KL.
I think something like KL Monorail or Kitakyushu monorail might be good for Klang.
NOT as a MAIN LINE
just a feeder line from KTM station to it surronding area that is to congested to be serve by bus.
just like bigger version of sunway monorail where its more of a people mover type monorail than a transit type

dengilo January 12th, 2010, 04:01 PM If they can spend billions for the double tracking up and down the country they might as well upgrade the komuter line to klang.The only reason it takes forever to cover such short distance is because the tracks are in shit hole condition!!!!!!

peromyvi January 13th, 2010, 06:11 PM Why cant rapidkl integrate the fare of both kelana jaya and sri petaling/ampang line despite being under the same management. How to encourage the not so frequent user if i need to purchase 2 ticket just to cross over to the next station? While i do agree that the monthly pass is good, the fares still need to be integrated. The simplest way is fares by no of station ie 1-5 station one pricing, etc etc then just calculate accordingly by the numbers of station travelled.
Please put some brains into our rapid kl management
Based on our govt track record we need to be realistic what sort of network we can achive in the next 10 years. Going by between 1998 and 2008 with minimal investment, i am quite pessimistic with the progress in this coming 10 years.

This is supposed to be the year when they finally do that.
How and when is still up in the air...everything is unknown. But goal is to integrate the fare systems of the LRT lines and monorail.
Physical integration is very unlikely to happen but there will be covered walkways. yay. :ohno:

johnsonooi January 16th, 2010, 12:41 PM I am now travelling in Perth.
I am very delighted in Perth Transportation that very efficient and cheap.
My reasons as below,
Perth population around 1 millions plus, but the government is keen to provide the public transport so that people do not have to travel by cars.
Free CAT services (Central Area Transit) that covered most of the Perth CBD.
Bus and rail integration, with the two busports in the north and south of the city.
Clear bus station display panel. For CAT services, the display panel has a analogue count down time for next arrival.
Use of dual gauge system for heavy rails.
Buses use natural gases as their fuel.
Three bus companies operate the whole Perth bus system, under the same identity "Transperth", but still able to display the message like this, "This transperth service is proudly operated by XXX Company."
As most of the forumers in here proposed before, I should recommend government to study the efficiency of the transportation system in Perth. I have been to Melbourne and Sydney and experience their transport system, but I like the Perth system.
I should say government at this moment should concentrate more in providing more buses to improve our transportation system before looking into heavy-capital infrastructure. I also recommend that Penang should emulate the perth system as the population is merely the same.
I would like to know more how others think, and also from our transit expert, Allurban.
More about Transperth, visit http://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/
