This is how it would look like in El Poblado (a dense district):

La puse en donde actualmente está el terreno valdío de Palos de Moguer.

Central Banking District. I would have liked if it were there also, but it's still a good looking tower.

Central Banking District. I would have liked if it were there also, but it's still a good looking tower.

Latinamerican Cities don't use to have a CBD in specific.

Great project for Colombia!!! :D

i think the place of construction is cool, something new...especially for a supertall :)

D.D.
April 13th, 2008, 05:22 PM
for a supertall it has a very unorthodox location, I still desagree with it, because that land used to be a very lush green forest that obviously is not there anymore :( but i still like the supertall but built in a more urban location :)

^^ I don't think it would look good in downtown because of the architecture of the other buildings.

D.D.
April 13th, 2008, 07:57 PM
^^ I beg to differ, right now it might look like that, but i would definitely draw more investment of that kind to the area.

^^^^ I agree with you. I believe the downtown area of the city would have been the best place to build the tower, however. I'd rather having it built in the mountain than not built at all.

The tower has over 300m, not 280m.

Love that tower, BTW.

It looks like a commie block.... nasty.

the thing is that it is a very common way to build in colombia. Most residential buildings "show" their brick. It isnt better or worse, just another way to build. The brick, by the way, normally is top notch, perfectly smooth. If you look at it in pics it looks ugly, but totally different in real life. Residential buildings with this type of facade are very accepted in colombia. Most of the buildings that possess the most expensive apartments in the country are built like this.

For example this building. This actually is for office space...but you can see my point.

by the way...El faro looks great...cant wait 2 see it built. Too bad it is not very well placed and does not agree with the environment (natural and man-made). But it has a purpose...its actually also a monument to Maria auxiliadora.

I agree with you all in that the location of this new building is not the right one. The Architect decided to do it in his home town of Sabaneta a suburb of Medellin to develop the area, and as an offering to the virgin mary.

Here are some renders done by one of the members in the colombian forum,

This is how downtown would of looked liked:

As for the brick buildings they are an icon in Colombian Architecture, and part of the Colombian Culture. Its simple as it represents old style colonial homes. Its quite nice in person, not disgusting as some of you mentioned it!

This is what I mean:

I notice no one has posted on this site for a while but I found this image in an article on the internet the other day and wanted to see what people thought! It is done by YAS Architecture out of Chicago, Illinois for the Faro Monarca Tower. The information that the article gives says:

The Faro Monarca Tower stands 285 meters tall with 80 floors and an 850-car parking structure located 5 levels below-grade. The tower is a mixed-use building that includes offices, 200 hotel rooms, 400 condominium units and a convention center. Nearby the tower is a religious site with a chapel. The tower also includes direct access to the popular metro cable system.

Located in the foothills of Sabaneta, a suburb of Medellin, this structure stands to be not onlty the tallest building in Sabaneta, but in Latin America as well.

YAS Architecture has teamed with a local developer, a Colombian A/E team and has created a multi-disciplinary team specializing in tall structures to lead the design effort for this project.

Compared to the previous designs, I think that this is a really great design and really looks like it belongs in Colombia. What do you all think?

The beginning of the article started with this explanation - i forgot to add that part in...

The top of the building symbolizes the fruit of the coffee bean blossoming after 40 years of war. The building is meant to be an icon for the renaissance of Columbia.
