Hi guys, as per my first post (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=288455&page=8), I'd like to start off by sharing a couple of my own photos I took of this development yesterday.

thanks Euphoria. woden has got a decent skyline for somewhere that is only a town center. Do you have any pictures or information from civic or the kingston foreshore? i saw ur post in the projects canberra thread, i would also like to hear more about them easing on height restrictions. i reckon anything up to 120-130 meters in Civic should be allowed.

thanks for the photos Euphoria.... they'd want to be locking that crane off at night... that boom could do a bit of damage.

YR Welcome, I do actually have a panorama of the foreshore development from a few days ago- I've posted it up in a separate thread (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?p=23632794#post23632794). As for the boom on the crane, well I saw it in action the other day, and the tip was actually swinging with about 6-10m clearance above the top of the Aviation Australia building. It looked dangerous!

Beat me to it abc! Here is a photo of this as of yesterday, it looks like some parts have reached 2st:

http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s354/Euphoria12_2004/Woden/Woden-Crane1.jpg

The crane is definitely one of the tallest I have seen in Canberra that is freestanding. It must reach 80-90m! Can anyone explain why they would need this for a 10st building? Also, is that a climbing frame attached to it? Cheers!

Give it a few years and Woden will have a much better skyline than Civic. It already has the three tallest buildings in Canberra

yeah thats a climbing frame... it won't be climbing anymore though... It's that high because it's a hammerhead crane.... All cranes when not in use just blow in the wind.. If it was to blow in the wind, it would take out Scarbrough House, so that's why it's topped out already.

I wish the Canberra towncentres (including civic) didn't revolve around nucleus shopping centres. I wonder if the urban fabric of our town centres will ever evolve?

Gunghalin is going to be different. But its tiny atm so its hard to know what they're going to do with it.

Apologies for the rather large update, I have been in a "sweep and clear" photography mood. So things seem to be progressing nicely. Here are some shots:

85(am I close?) metre crane, towering above the development.

They actually look a bit taller than I was expecting. Wouldn't be much short of 50 meters?

It would be nice to see Woden eventually transformed into a second CBD.

why does the federal health department (I didn't know there was such a thing) need a building this big for?

because they're not allowed skyscrapers.

Well, really they are, but people will complain about it.
