The Toronto forum has one, so I thought we should have one too. Vancouver's sexy skyline in a couple years:

By me:

Additions from left to right: Jameson House, Fairmont Pacific Rim, Hotel Georgia, Ritz Carlton, West Pender Place

I'm going for realism, so I try to use angle-appropriate renders or ones easily tweaked... This one only has hotel georgia and capitol residences

Reality sort of caught up with these ones:

http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/9198/picture017rl2.jpg

so to keep one step ahead:

Finally just for fun:

Dleung, you are a f...... genius, I just fall in love with that super tall RC. See, don't you think now downtown looks great with a 1000' tall tower?

I'm not for a 1000 footer, but certainly Ritz Carlton should've been taller! something like 700 to 750 feet.

I actually think a building like Shangri-la, with its clean monolithic rectangular form, fits best as the tallest building in Vancouver, and provides a subtle backdrop for other buildings. The fancy twisty buildings are striking enough without being tall.

Then it would've been better for Shangri-La to be a little taller. 70-79 floors would be nice.

I just think the floor difference between Sahngri-La and Ritz Carleton a little too little.

Btw, dleung, check ur inbox.

When I was going over to Vancouver from Nanaimo on the ferry, you can see Shangri-la very well. From the view, it's so beautiful. I can't wait to see what it'll look like in 5 years.

Well one thing for sure, the Shangri-la would look better if it was a hundred feet taller.

Taller is always better! :)

Is there anyone that could perhaps do a render of splicing in buildings from other cities? Like how would we look if we had the HK convention center where our VCCEP is? Or how about some other famous buildings?

Just a 'what if' type of render....

I agree; the Ritz Carlton could use an extra 100-200 feet on it. In my opinion, it's a fantastic design but it deserves more.

Great renders. Thanks.

BTW - look whose views the Amacon Building will block (I know this isn't the right tower, but the location is correct):

Well done again, dleung! But I am a little bit picky this time....Sorry.

First the spacing between the SL and RC is slighly too wide and the Georgia is 156m but it looks like it is more than 165 m.

dleung
April 30th, 2008, 09:39 AM
I wish Georgia was that height though, lol
Fixed, with Patina added.

Nice work; I see you haven't given up on the Ritz? ;)

Shangri-la looks like a perfect rectangle from that vantage. It almost looks like it's a render.

Nice...can you add the new Fairmont though???

dleung
January 24th, 2009, 11:47 PM
The reason why the previous render looks like Manhattan is because of the layered look, with buildings like Hotel Vancouver and the Marine building adding some old-world grandeur into the skyline. But thanks to the Fairmont:
http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/6749/futureskyline4ft2.jpg

This, on the other hand, is the kind of scale I find more appropriate for the waterfront:

^Added, from left to right: West Pender Place, RC (?), Patina, the Georgia, Capitol Residences

I wish Patina and Capitol didn't exist... patina has terrible massing and no relationship with either the adjacent church or the art deco building that it "retained"; Capitol is a taller obese Espana. The worst part is that both will have a lot of prominence in the new skyline because of their high elevation... this isn't like parking lot vs ugly infill; when it comes to shaping the skyline, it's better to have nothing than something far than ideal =(

It looks better but we need to fill in a few more spaces to have a nice "hump" of buildings. And not any simple glass ones... we got too many of those. NO SPECTRUMS EITHER!

Topic stuck.

Here's a historic area height review for the Gastown/Chinatown area of Vancouver... they plan on relaxing some height restrictions in certain areas to allow for much-needed density. The first step towards filling up Vancouver's soon-to-be-horseshoe skyline around false creek.

Projected taller buildings in yellow. Green is slightly-increased density on existing buildings. Posted originally by Jlousa from SSP.

It's done by the city of Vancouver, possibly in CAD/sketchup.

Not a render this time, but hopefully the kind of differently-textured buildings we should see in Vancouver next boom around. A rectangular, non-twisty version of this would be really nice. Shangri-la doesn't look asian enough.

With this future skyline, downtown sure look a little bit like New York.

but very BLUE-ish and glassy/translucent instead of " beige" and pretty much with less impressive art-deco or belle epoque structures, don't you think so?

(unless I come to unwind in VC instead with my friends, the sex & the city freaks!)

^^Agreed! Actually, I wish that this building would be in darker color like the Peachtree Plaza hotel in Atlanta.

I threw a new year's eve party at the Peachtree Plaza many years ago.

Had 30 bottles of champagne and a bucket for people to contribute to help pay for the room and booze. The bucket was overflowing with money towards the end of the party, but, before I knew it, someone had stolen the whole thing. C'est la vie!

hahahahhahahahahaha....:lol: well, you got your first lesson anyways! Don't lose the bucket out of sight and throw more parties using the left overs of the previous party to cater the guests! 10 parties left, le voilą, you got your own penthouse located inside Shangri-LA living Vancouver! :D

You can hire Yellow Fever as butler :bowtie:, Vanboy as private cook :tyty:, Taller Better as DJ :fiddle:, Looking/Up as bodyguard, etc etc!!!
